What games can we say that had portrayed romances right?

What games can we say that had portrayed romances right?
Just grabbed the pic from Google, can't say that Ass Effect is really great in the romance writing department.

Rapely

Nice try, but no, i'm serious.

The only one that's ever really struck any kind of chord is The Darkness,

None of them. Romanceshit is for the bargain bins in a department store.

AWWWWWWW, WHAT HAPPENED TO JENNY, JACKIE?

pc darkness 1 never ever

Fire Emblem 4. There's a bloodline mechanic where your kids inherit your weapons and stats.

Very few or more likey none. The thing with vidya romance is that they have to make it appealing, so they can't really put in the mountains of bullshit that comes with actual romance unless it's for the purpose of invoking negative emotions in the player.

I wouldn't know I've never been romantically involved.

For all I know, all games get it right or maybe none of them do. I wouldn't know.

That's not a requirement for being able to identify something vaguely analogous to a snippet of possible reality.

For example if you saw any of the ME:A relationshit stuff and thought 'That *might* work' then you'd have to be sectioned under some kind of mental health directive.

Ico and SotC.

Silent Hill 2.
It portrays a much darker side of romance that not many movies or shows dare to deal with due to the depressing subject matter. A normal couple struggling for a long time with a very difficult situation like this can look quite ugly, and makes you wonder which person to empathise with. Where shows that do this would normally make both characters look like assholes, the situation presented here is a bit more complicated. The game doesn't explain much, but it sheds light on the topic enough to see both sides of the struggle.
The different endings can make your character end up being an asshole, or a reasonable person pushed to the limit in a very uncomfortable situation.

I don't think games should try to do this outside of glorified masturbation sims. It's hard enough to ascribe significant humanity to a mesh and a texture plodding about bumbling into walls as it is without trying and failing horribly at intimate relationships, interaction has always been clunky as hell in vidya, models still have the perennial problems of clipping into each other or passing over each other, physical contact is hard enough to portray convincingly when it's a punch never mind a caress or kiss.

Obviously the calibre of writing required to make the thing convincing is paramount, to give your lovers arc ups and downs and have it not be perfect while still being fulfilling enough that you don't want to jack it in, or they you *and* have do it well? I dunno I can't see it outside of something epic that has a giant script or as in the case of The Darkness just planting the seed of comfylove in your belly then ripping it out and stomping on it to give your guy motivation to tare ass.

Maintaining love in a game sounds like putting up with a lot of shit for the ephemeral affections of a girl who can't even suck your cock. The Bioware ones are obviously dreck that couldn't be easier to score ass in if you were made of diamonds and came chocolate for how quickly they want to get squirting in/on your meat.

I've taken to not bothering with them when they appear as options now, I just omit that shit, after seeing Cisquisition and the cadre of malformed fags trannies and troggos you were expected to want to 'SERIOUSLY BANG OMGEE' I'm now forever a married to the job, love has no place in my real or digital worlds thanks.

Mass Effect, Katawa Shoujo and Witcher 3 actually made me feel something, so I guess these three games.

FEAR because I fell in love with the shotgun more than any dumb npc or team member

Is The Darkness II also good?
Am I required to play the first game to understand shit?

nier automata is a genuinely interesting love story.

I have never known this and I played through the game dozens of times.

I really liked the sequel with mouse controls. Shame that the first never got a proper port from Starbreeze.

Darkness 1 is far better, but 2 was passable as a sequel. You can mostly pick up the story, yet I don't recommend it because the game ends on a cliffhanger. It took them half a decade to make a sequel and they had the balls to end it thinking they'd get to do a 3rd game. Bastards.

Also the way vidya audio is recorded means barely anyone ever speaks over (or under) anyone else, so there's no opportunity for spontaneously arriving at the same thought at the same time vocally, also no finishing each others sentences and the like.

First was ace and I deffo recommend it, has some poignant, visceral and hilarious moments, play it first if you can. The second is more headfucked I played it very high one bleak-ass winter a few years ago, it's certainly worth the time and has some memorably insane shit going on, at times you wish it was more like 1 then it turns into its own beast.

You kind of need to play the first one just for voice of 'The Darkness', he sounds like he's been gargling a frying pan full of boiling oil.

Such a beautiful raifu. The MP-50 repeating cannon is the fun girl you cheat on your raifu with

Have you gone through the game without using guns? Did you also know that in the god awful Perseus Mandate expansion level Interval 05 - Infiltration - Relic, when you are confronted by two REV6 powered armors, you can just say "fuck it" and simply not engage them, walking straight through the door? You'll get hit by a couple of rockets, but you'll still live on the highest difficulty.

Site's acting up, I thought we'd already "upgraded the servers"?

Some otome games and yuri VN's. There aren't many of them out there, really. It's because the video game industry and demographic is male dominated, and men are incapable of love.

I want so badly to see a prompt that says "Press X to love tenderly".

*majority of 3D men are incapable of love

...

The one where she leaves you, and you have to pay alimony.

I was half fucking joking.

...

?

I thought you either choose to divorce her, or punch her?

I came here to say this.

Did those furfaggots ever officially give up on this shit or what

Yeah, it's sad how the majority of men are far too obsessed with their toys and other petty things to understand what love truly means. Women aren't smart either, but at least they know that the only things that really matter in this world are love and sacrifice.

Is this it?

Final Fantasy VII
There are good romances in a number of VNs both Yuri and not that are good. But for the most part there are very few 'good' romantic stories in Vidya.

"Let the flirts fly!"

I don’t have to have had a dad to know that I would have wanted to have one growing up, user. You’re just incapable of judging a situation subjunctively. Are you a nigger? Because niggers are genetically unable to do this.

Don't deny it.

This one

I can't get over how fucking exploitable this image became.

I can see it being used to smugly talk shit.

I'm never playing the game personally, but I famously hear about Count Bleck and who's apparently his waifu.

Fucking gay.

...

...

None. It's never been done because all games focus on the initial period of lust but never the actual romance of a relationship. Even the best of games like Mass Effect or Persona usually have the sex scene as the climax of your story with your chosen grill and then no reason whatsoever to see the other person again.

To be fair Mass effect recognized this and had that god awful dlc in 3 to try and rectify this and spend some time with your waifu, and persona eventually started adding some date scenes that you can see after you max out their social link, but it's basically a waste of a day stats wise even if it is cute. Overall a game needs someone to be in a relationship at the start of the game in order to really explore this.

My only regret is that I'll never have children.

I've never been anywhere near being in a romantic relationship and am a natural loner, romance is still one of my favourite story genres.

What is even there to look forward to, when I live in a socialist shithole?

...

the sims with sex mods

She only gets a few scenes, but nothing says "Romantic" like slaughtering an innocent village just to save her.

Gone Home because gay

In all seriousness though, it depends whether you mean "Romance" as a mechanic or as a story/dialogue/narrative.

As a mechanic, there are hardly any that do it. Waifu Emblem is one where you could partner up with your intended and he/she can protect your character. That's a step in the right direction but it's pretty shallow.

As a narrative.. Well… Maybe Witcher? The West pretty much presents you ugly turbo-dykes, while Nipland gives cute/pretty/moe/fruit-cake girls you might like, but they tend to be shallow as fuck unless you're playing a VN.

Even better is the article about that scene for contextualizing the stealth kill mechanic into kissing your wife, and how it was teaching people to commit atrocious acts of violence against women.

I want to move to the country you're posting from. Somewhere in Eastern Europe?

Fallout 4 comes to mind.

What's with the gay music?

You fucking disgust me

It's probably a woman posting so disregard

It's not really hard, you've just erased it from your mind as an option.

People have survived worse than socialism.
Despair though, that's a different thing. Your mind defeated yet your body is ok.
It's a waste to go like that though. Unfuck your mind user. Work towards somethign you find worthwhile.

Postal 2 is the only one that comes to mind

Oddly enough there are some nice romances in Bioware games, they're just few and far between the rest being god awful shit. Carth in KOTOR where you get to emotionally torture him is fun. ManShep and Kaiden in ME3 is the best romance in the game for some weird reason, where it just feels like two people who care deeply for each other and nothing retarded happens.

As mentioned though the best would be The Darkness. It feels real and makes you care.

Best FPS on the console.

Count Bleck's tragic love story is basically Romeo and Juliet, if instead of killing himself Romeo went on to become a wizard and tried to destroy the multiverse in a broken-hearted nihilistic rage.

Planescape: Torment. The romantic elements with Annah and Fall-From-Grace are well done without distracting from the main story.

It's not odd. Writing USED to be the biggest reason to buy Bioware games.

if it weren't for your double dubs I would have bullied you

Fight back against it and have your name remembered for all time, YOU STUPID FUCKING CUCKOLD. Life is worthless without struggle. Give up and you deserve death.

But visual novels are games, user.

This is ironically the only game I've played for the story. It's more about addressing what MGs would me like if they were to actually exist with some hint of realism, but the few romantic moments there are in this game are really fucking well done. If you're like me you'll ignore the porn until there's a fetish of yours that isn't that well catered towards.

W-what a fag

I like how the fox looks. She looks fun.

9s is pretty gay for 2b

There's one that recently came out on steam that actually has h-scenes in it
nothing crazy just lightdom/femdom stuff

sims with sex mods is a do-it-yourself otome game

The game´s called "Everlasting Summer." Not a really bad VN in my opinion, and it´s pretty feelsy, too.

Tamamo is the best girl out of the 4 Heavenly Knights gang.

My nigger. But my main issue is that those romances feel like they happen out of nowhere without any good build up. Annah a best though.

Why is Tali so cute?
Why is she damned to be in such a shit series?

Said the landwhale.

Why is it important?

The entire idea of putting romance in video games is ridiculous. It's pointless fluff that detracts from the focus on gameplay in any game, which is why it should be relegated to "games" that aren't games, like VNs. From what I've seen over the years in the industry it even damages the writing, character building and world building even in games you can argue it should have a place, like RPGs. If you ask me Biowares fall from grace started in Baldurs Gate II when they realized that the desperate social outcasts who played their games actually became emotionally dependent on their game after their self insert was worshiped as a perfect male specimen by Aerie/Jaheria/Viconia. Notice no game since then has been made by Bioware without shoving some ham handed romance into it, which I suspect is a large reason people forgave their sheer incompetence in designing engaging combat or interesting RPG class mechanics once they stopped using the D&D ruleset, since they were deriving emotional satisfaction from fake relationships written by some shit writer who couldn't hack it writing actual literature, or even scripts for Pedowood. Pathetic.

Fuck, even the writing in RTS games got infected with that garbage. The last interaction Kerrigan and Raynor have in Starcraft is Raynor swearing he will kill Kerrigan for being a psychopathic bitch who slaughtered and betrayed everyone. Kerrigan was actually a great character in Starcraft because she goes from tragic heroine to utter abomination, since she actually enjoys being the monster the Overmind turned her into. Then Starcraft 2 happens and all of this gets thrown to the curb so they can run with some idiotic love story that makes no sense, likely because the writers capable of anything more left Blizzard long ago. The more I think about this shit the more disgusting it is. Romance has no place in video games, go watch a soap opera or read a romance novel if that's what you're after.

lol, dont we all?
If there's any justice in life it's that, everyone deserved death and everyone gets it.

le epic tumblr skeleton dating game

If you are serious, you won't ignore the best answer.

Rapelay

The only romance that I genuinely liked was in the OC of Neverwinter Nights.

The rest is up to your imagination, although there is a canon ending.
I thought it was a very cute story.
Which is funny because Biocrap made this.

I also heard Planescape Torment had something good, but I never finished it.
Maybe one day.

The truth is that all the "romances" that you get in vidya are just imitations of how they are in the real world.
So it is no surprise that they'd be shallow trash.

Should I finish it?
I only got past that early part and I have to ask if the two routes are any different.

That game fucked me up

Tali was great but those games failed hard.
"Romances right" is more for the VN genre. P5 is basically the best we have in console stuff.

By "sacrifice" you mean "provide everything needed, have all the plans set, make time to listen to be drone on about banalities, and do all the work in the bedroom" also "emotionally validate me sometimes pls thnx"

A woman needs only to maintain her grooming and behavior (and hymen, though legit rape doesn't count).
A man needs to bring the money, the home, the transportation, the security, and all relationship authority. It's easy to talk about sacrifice when your role is so much simpler.
What happens when any of these things are shared? Well, if you share authority you die. There is no "50/50" in a stable marriage. Why? Because women's natural wicked inclination is to disrespect their husband (as the husband's natural wicked inclination is to either neglect or be domineering/unloving to his wife). The man must have the final say and his authority must be respected - and he must be intelligent, wise and insightful enough to handle that or it's a sinking ship. The woman cannot handle the role of sharing the burden of "Family Head". Does she have authority? Yes. The minute she tries to equal that to, let alone supplant, the authority of the man she implodes. I saw it happen in my home. It's basic fact.

But authority also comes with other responsibilities, and authority cannot be appreciated if the finance is not met. The minute the woman makes more than her man the relationship is dead because resentment naturally builds in her towards her "lesser" husband. This is why "career women" are absolute wastes of womb and end up freezing their eggs in a vain effort to stave off the specter whose crows' feet they see growing beside their eyes in the mirror. Could they find a good man? If they were at least 30yrs sure, but women in their 30's often have more established than some unemployed guy whose resume looks about as full as his love life. What does that get them, though, when they cannot help but succumb to the natural role of a woman in the relationship and, in kind, expect the man to do the same?

"love" yes, "sacrifice" don't kid yourself. Women do not need to sacrifice anything but their flesh and heart. Men need to do that and be the provider, or else their counsel and authority - no matter how keen - will never be taken with weight. He will only ever be a boy trying to wear the pants of the girl's father in her eyes.

This, of course, utterly changes in a Christ-centered relationship wherein both man and woman know their roles and submit to one another according to Scripture, and where the man's authority is built not primarily on finance but on the Spirit - even if she earns more than him, he has authority because she submits herself to Christ in him and trust in him and the Lord who bought them both; she will not be backbiting, no matter how inclined, and he will not be neglectful nor try to compensate for not bringing in the dough by being abusive in any way but will rather adore her and lead her rightly according to Scripture (1 Cor. 7).
Even so, the man has to be the one with some assets aside from just his spirit and body, and the woman does not. If she's a virgin, or at least virginal in spirit, and takes care of herself and is not profane or obscene, she has a higher chance.

Sadly, the economy and the social economics of our current distraught age has left most of us growing up too late, and even then not with much in the way of security or financial provision.

Crusader Kings II.

i've been putting this off for too long

I really think they should have let you romance Sae. Everything I saw from my roommate playing it to cement if I really wanted to try it out just seems to have wasted everything they could have easily packaged together as a romance option at the last second.

I disagree with romance "having no place in vidya"
But I do agree it can cause problems quite frequently
It should be used less, and more cautiously. What happened in Starcraft 2 was a joke in terms of storyline.
that said, its not like it was easy for Raynor. He was still planning on killing the bitch until Zeratul came with the prophecy nonsense, but I suppose that was Blizzard's "way out" to keep their love story going while still advancing the plot

...

For me, there are three games which isn't handled the romance as a fucking side quest.
Baldurs gate with the cock hungry elf, and Neverwinter Nights 2 with the secretly cock hungry elf. (the bald girl and the famer girld story arc was great too)
And the very first Dragon Age. Laughed my ass of when the homo elf asked about it, but i think it was nice.

It was nice to see just for once that the npcs are the one who show interest… Sad the see how the concept is long lost and dead…

btw why always the elfs?

All of those romances were terrible.

Ironic because one doesn't need to be taught to commit atrocious acts of violence against women from video games when women themselves do a perfectly good job of instilling the same lesson themselves.

I'm the opposite. I don't want kids because their world would be shit.
I'm atheist, but not a nihilist. So I can't have kids and a family to make me happy, knowing they are fucked after I die. That's the boomer mindset.
I get lonely though.

Same. I probably won't have parents by then, so no guilt.

Pandoras Tower. Especially since the characters are together BEFORE the game starts, so it doesn't feel like after 3 conversations you find your soulmate.
Also you need to do a lot of work to build up their relationship.

Old dating sims, they looked so comfy with the art style and managing money/jobs, with time and other things, then picking dialogue/gifts. Mostly I miss the art. That pixel anime art style.

Pretty sure the reason Sae is not an option is because she's not even a character so much as she is a plot device. She could have been a character, but the devs clearly had a mid-way realization of an asinine twist they wanted to shove into the game, a twist that makes no sense and is hidden from the player and yet not from the player character. This twist required a lazy rewrite where the story is retroactively placed not as an ongoing narrative but as a retelling of things that happened, a recounting of the story, and it's utterly stupid.

Because of this, Sae, who could and should have had more of a character and presence, turns into nothing more than a device to keep the recounting story going and giving the devs a chance to pull off the moronic "twist". She can't develop as a character like the others since she's never given a presence in the story because, if she was, she wouldn't be asking all of these details she already knows about and wouldn't be treating the protagonist like a stranger she only gets to know in the interrogation room.

TL;DR The stupid choice which was obviously implemented later in the development cycle after the earlier game had mostly been done (hence why the interruptions are always jarring and add nothing) for the sake of a twist that doesn't make sense and only serves to rip the player out of the immersion as the protagonist is the reason why Sae is not a real character and, ultimately, can never be one.
I will not stop being angry about how shoddy P5's last third of the game is; everything after Futaba is downhill.

LAD

Pics related.

Can confirm, the last third feels rushed and the plot twist does feel forced. The fifth and sixth palaces feel more like chores to do, unlike the other four which had a pretty good heist atmosphere. I also wish Pancake Lad could have been playable for a bit longer, but thats what Persona 5 Crimson is for. Honestly, the story fatigue made beating Senator Armstrong Shido feel anti-climactic, and the one day dungeon after that felt like an afterthought. But, to be fair, at least it was a proper boss fight rather than a slew of cutscenes, which is what a lesser game would have done>

100% A1 Exactly, mate.

Yeah, my desire to get P5 blew out the window with fucking everything about the ending except the finale.

I'm fucking pissed.

An arrogant faggot like Shido is 100% nothing like Armstrong.

What about Stockholm Syndrome rape?

More yuri.

Dude, his shadow goes from being an off brand Char to being a buff shirtless man. the joke was that Armstrong's boss fight transitioned from being a regular man piloting a machine to a large buff man.

I think it's time to reinstall again.

I know, but character wise they're not even in the same ballpark.

Shido was nothing but an arrogant and selfish man who legitimately believed "God" had chosen him to lead with no real noble vision or ideal, literally lying through his teeth telling everyone he viewed as inferior what they wanted to hear and cheating with supernatural powers to kill his political and business enemies he knew he couldn't beat otherwise. People who compare him to Trump are just fucking insulting a necessary asshole with actual compassion and indignation that motivates it.

Armstrong was a flawed, but passionate and determined man who intended to force humanity to return to non diplomatic existence where people would fight and kill each other with all their strength and ideals no longer inhibited by straight up bullshit like not being allowed to kill shit that abused or even raped your close ones by faggot suits or cops that don't know anything anyone's lives (limpdicked lawyers and chickenshit bureaucrats) And he represented this by arming himself with enough surgically implanted technology that would allow him to cathartically almost unstoppably just beat the shit out of everything, even tanks and one man army supersoldier cyborgs, with his bare hands. And when he died, he acknowledged Raiden was not weak or wrong for protecting the weak and pathetic he believed needed to be purged and that he was actually strengthened even more than him with everything he surrounded himself with. He told him to carry on his will in his own way and peacefully died like a man with a smile despite the gory nature of it.

having emofags killing themselves is just natural selection. Problem is that our society feeds and takes care of people that should die and have their genes obliterated in a functionnal eco system.

Stop that user

Is it right for a virtuous man or girl to kill countless innocents to save their waifu?

In all honesty, I wouldn't sell myself for shekels, but there are few things I'd refuse if it meant getting her.

Psh.. Liking autists such as yourself.

Rinko is love. Rinko is life. Rinko is wife.

And you people claim that yuri totally doesn't have an anti-male agenda.
God, I love being right.

that's beyond the point that all pornography is anti-civilization

Kind of want to see someone make a version of this with the FEAR protag and that shotgun now.

MGSV was pretty good at it, though not at all from a plot or character perspective
The whole damn game was engineered to make you as the player feel phantom pain, even the parts that just happened accidentally due to konami being cunts

This man doesn't know love.

I meant more specifically that particular image of him cuddling the gun, not the fact that doomguy abandons various guns for even bigger ones at the drop of a hat.

They realized running it in flash was a really fucking stupid idea and are changing engines to handle proper stat and event tracking so that when you are to the point where you can pork her in the middle of a mall and she soaks your dick, she doesn't call the cops when you're at home and munching her cooch in the privacy of your home.

>implying you didn't at the very least well up after sparing Alice's life/taking it and finding the ribbon you bought her in the lockbox.

You're both just arrogant obnoxious retards.

No, it's just the bad guy forcing you to kill people then letting her go.

None. Romance is too complex to display in a video game properly without wasting about of time on non-gameplay.

It's "The flirts will flow" you damn heathen.

Now write it out 200 times on your walls.

Same, wizard, don't ever want kids or the chance of it happening and sticking my dick in a plastic bag with cock anesthesia in it just to blow another in an endless line of pointless loads doesn't appeal enough to me to put any effort into finding a lady meathole in which to do that. Plus all the bullshit and soul-killingly dull/dumb garbage she'd inevitably be into.

Also every relationship I've ever seen is tainted with infidelity or ends in acrimonious sentiment, every single one, someone is hiding some shit or they're bitterly unhappy with *something*. I get why people do it but so many seem to be blind to the consequences of their actions and inaction, they dole out heartbreak and strife to each other like mortar fire, I have no place on that battlefield.

War lad, got to at least take out a load of fucktards with you when you go.

The Lunar games handled romance pretty well, especially 2. The Growlanser games can vary wildly with this. Depending on who you go after, the romance can either be really well done or downright insane IIRC you can have both a harem of women and a harem of men in Growlanser II.

Only somewhat related but I'd be interested in seeing a mixture of that talking shotgun from BL2 and the talking suit from NV.

...

Back to Holla Forums, faggot.

what game?

Christ, I know it's sad, but that 'blyat' makes me laugh.

Alpha Protocol

Exercise, eat clean, put effort into hygiene, study a good degree at a good university. What else is there?

Doesn't work when pretty much every girl I've ever tried to ask out says no. And I'm not even a white-knighting faggot, I just don't have the energy to trade banter 24/7 when I just want to get past the bullshit so I can bang and cuddle with some qt.

Is it love when its glorified brainwashing and you actually want to turn your love into your daughteru but the game gives you little choice other than turning her into a cock-addicted slut?

All I wanted was to see her smile

It is not love if there is no pain.
That is the only condition.

Fuck off back to tumblr.
