Skate or Die by Electronic Arts

Good ol' 1880s.

-Hotline Miami
-Scarface
-World in Conflict

I chuckled

What a faggot, I bet your taste in music is complete shit.

Ruiner

Fuckoff

Yakuza 0

Nigger, 1980s visions of the future count whether you like it or not.

Does that include Alien: Isolation then?
It's technically late 70's.

Also I just remembered Operation Flashpoint/ArmA Cold War Crisis for some 80's NATO/Soviet military action.

I'm a casual.

Best answer.

ebin

...

Takes place in 1984, it even has 80s music in it's ost

If you like the military aesthetic of the 80's.

Top tier taste.

Amazing, next you'll post Phill Collins

Just cause you got no groove don't mean you need to disapprove.

...

Super Mario Bros
Hang On
Rampage
Moonwalker

correct answer

And you call other people's taste shit.

My favorite '80s video game.

...

1977, the latest year you could be born to remember the year 1980, was 40 years ago

I want another GTA in the 80s dammit, I hate how period pieces went out of fashion and everything has to be modern day smartphone crap (well there was Mafia III in the 60s I guess but it was crap).

This motherfucker should create a vidya.

Thread theme

you're the faggot here

sykk boin my dood

I want summer to end
more pure 80's

...

...

Cause that's the obligatory fucking game at this point. Everyone on this board has either played it or seen it here.

You are an 1980's action hero. I'm convinced this game was a fluke on Ubisoft's part.

I still would argue that actual 80's video games are the most 80's video games.

still pretty cringy and meme-y at times, but the fact that people remember FC3 and 4 more than this makes it a success in my eyes

LA Noire was pretty good

He said good, not gay

Many games made in the 80s also happen to be set in the 80s. Try some /vr/ tier stuff.

People born in the early 80s - rather than the late 70s - are probably fine on the decade comprehension user.

Did someone say 80's music!

...

Not better than the first, but still pretty solid.

>>>/weebpol/

You're a faggot and I'm getting sick of this meme meme.

you would have to be 40 to remember the entirety of the 80s, and 50 to have been a teenager during it
so yes most of the people on this chan experience it secondarily unless I have made a grave error estimating the demographic

Are implying that people who were children during the 80s somehow didn't experience it?

someone who was a teenager during the 80s is going to have a much different experience then someone who was a pre-teen during it
teenagers have summer jobs and shit (or at least I think they did at the time) and can for example buy video games, are more capable of PLAYING videogames, are more aware of the world around them ect
so essentially yes

Meme?

You don't have to have income to experience most things a particular time period has to offer.

but then you are getting it through a filter of what your parents deem acceptable instead of raw, you probably are not watching the news and dont know whats going on in the world, have limited access to r rated movies, are uninterested in many things your adult self is interested in and therefore dont look into them
I will cede that this difference wouldnt be very big specifically to the scope of video games, but that still changes the number merely from 50 to 40, allowing you to experience the tail end of the 80s with a mostly working brain

This is a very important point. I played so many different games that I would never have played if I had be forced to buy them with an allowance or wait for gifts on special occasions.

Oh, Holla Forums is too cool to listen to synthwave already? We had some nice threads of it a short while back.

looks like Holla Forums has nestled itself in, they're the ones that do that "im so clever for putting meme in the name of things I don't like" impotent consensus crack. They think people will just dogpile on the thing they don't like just because they call it "meme" or "reddit"
The left doesn't know what memes are.
The left can't meme.

The coasties really start to filter in late at night midwest time.

Around 3-4am this board becomes something else.

Bad Dudes even gives itself a specific timeframe; Reagan takes you out for burgers in the ending

I almost want to suggest Friday Is When the Monsters Come Out/Attack of the Friday Monsters but that's set in the 70s

but it takes place in the far future year of 2007. OP asked for games set in the 80s as a time period

steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=434946585

store.steampowered.com/app/441870/OutDrive/

No shit, it was made in the 80s. Redundant.

Pretty good.

still a gud gaem

bump

I have this game. You need a controllet thingy to save, though, so I never got far.

Good fucking taste.

It's posts like these that remind me the Holla Forums I knew and love died after MGSV's release.
Every single person here is now such a contrarian faggot that they act contrarian towards the games they used to enjoy and discuss just because too many people on here talked about them.
Stop and think about it; in a gaming wasteland where nothing good ever comes out anymore, you decide to call the genuinely good games "shit" because it's not made by gooks and doesn't have waifus.. Instead of attacking, say, MOBAshit or memewatch(there's even generals about them on the front page regularly), you attack games like Demon Souls, Deus Ex and New Vegas because it stopped being cool to like those games. I wonder who's the real hipster here.
I swear you faggots are like those weebs on /a/ that all have the same shit on thier 3x3s to impress people on a mongolian cavepainting forum with their "deep tastes" on shows they probably didn't even watch.

inb4 >Holla Forums is one person
>implying cultural patterns aren't a thing on chans

Faggots gonna faggot bud. Better to ignore retards than draw attention to them. I never liked the bloodsouls games though I respect them, and Deus Ex and NV are both really good games.

thought about it you're still gay

you can bump with some actual games you know

Exactly, I'm not that big of a fan of hotline miami, I played it once and thought it was pretty okay.
But I can respect that it was a solid game. There's a difference between a game not being your thing and it being shit. I'm not too into FPS/TPS games outside of doom and quake but I understand that not every FPS game is AAA garbage or "citizen kane of gaming #426".
I don't play racing games but I understand that among people that do play them that rFactor is a good game and I wouldn't call it shit simply because I don't find racing games to be my cup of tea.

A game is shit because it's shit; a corporate product with no soul behind it designed to capture the market of the lowest common denominator.
hotline miami isn't shit, it's a fairly niche game and it's halfway decent at worst.

There are the games that did come out in the 80's, there are the games based off of 80's films and properties, there are the games that do have some moments based in the 80's, and then there are some games that try to imitate the 80's. ALSO, you could just go here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Video_games_set_in_the_1980s

And, there's the bait.

Posting this bad boy again until I see any sign of acknowledgment on Holla Forums of its existence

That video is surprisingly comfy

Shoot a bullet, pick it up, get bitten by weird snek jumping from a bush, die.
Really neat game. Though I never went that far to meet this bassboosting spider you from the screenshot.

The ideas are nice, but the execution was quite rough.
Still pretty cool, yes

My father was born in 1955.
I showed him this newretryovaporAESTHETICSsimpsonswave shit and asked him if the 80s had anything like it.
He said it didn't and that the only things that really happened in the 80s were rock music dying and whites having a fixation on nigger hair.
Being stupid is a family gene so to be doubly sure I made sure he knew I wasn't talking about interlaced purple cars speeding in a neon universe and that I was talking about the overall aesthetic being present somewhere, the answer was the same.

I've played it or 6 hours (thought it was just 2). It's nothing really outstanding, but it came out at a time when I had just pretty much grinded out the original Binding of Isaac and was thirsty for more. I'm glad it exists, played Tiny & Big: Grandpas Leftovers right afterwards, really shows how well the style that's been taken over by hipsters can work.
There was another game with a similar aesthetic, but I can't remember the name of it now. It was a free game, pretty sure it was features on TIGsource (another thing co-opted by hipstershit), was about going fast as fuck in the role of a cowboy with some weird floating apparatus. It was kind of like skating with all the maneuvers you could do and you could also play minigames with NPCs.
fuck those snakes in HB, I swear to god

then maybe it's time to ask him the hard questions, like $50 for a DIY paternity test and whether or not during the time of your mother's pregnancy your fridge never seemed to run out of milk even if everyone in the family is lactose intolerant

Best 80s song coming through.

too much actual 80s music in here.
let's diversify the portfolio a bit.

factually incorrect

This guy is a master sax player or something.
Every song incorporates a sax and it's fantastic.

Love their shit, too bad they are a bit antitrump and retrowave is a bit sjw from what I heard

Interesting grafiks, but I'm not sure the gameplay is for me

That sax was amazing, user. Thanks

Double Dragon

Here have some OC I made yesterday.

...

I miss this game, but I don't think I'd play it ever again. Maybe Ground Zeroes.

You're thinking of Zineth.

...

youtu.be/PkxKh4CV-vA

Fuck forgot to embed

righto, thanks

Who knew an 80s cop theme would be on Dragon Ball Z

...

...

how can anyone take seriously a guy that talks whit that accent?

He talks like an old man chewing tobacco and with a hand up his pants.

isn't that the name of the game?

Vice City Stories

Remember, the game preceded the huge neo-80s fad.

Not really. I was born in 1991, but I can't really remember much about 90s pop culture, it's all early 2000s.

Holla Forums has siezed on a nice chunk of the aesthetic and music. C Y B E R N Δ Z I is pretty great.

I've asked my parents the same thing. They saw the connection to 80s B-grade movies, which is a good way to describe a lot of synthwave, but they were more into late disco.

Mom was highly amused though when I told her that I'd downloaded all of Miami Vice and was watching it, apparently she used to love that show back in the day. If you want a good sampling of 80s music, that show is a must-watch. It's pretty decent overall, in fact, if you can get past the bad action scenes. Lots of car porn, too.

He is.

I'm playing it now, it's pretty solid.

Bad Dudes is a fun fucking game to play with a friend. I think we used to beat it within an afternoon several times.

No, that was the second one

It was good fun, until they fucking forced you into this open-world shit. I hate how in every fucking Ubisoft-game you have to spend hours of avoiding enemies you don't need to kill, don't want to deal with and has absolutely no impact in your game except wasting your time.

screenshots?

Miami Vice is GOAT until season 4.

(you)
(checked)
Your old!
two years older then me

such a great song

real 80's > fake millennial-hipster "80's"

Went to liverpool with a friend and got really drunk in a working man's pub full of 50 year olds that were doing karaoke
We sang this and everyone went wild

Such a great song

Now get ready for this Brunnen G looking motherfucker.

...

Modern synthwave was influenced specifically by low-budget film soundtracks and video games from the 80's, not the general pop culture of the time. A lot of it is also French, and synth as a genre is apparently a bigger deal there.

Cuckchan faggotry has seaped into this board for a long time user.
Like all summers this one has been a detriment to the quality of the board, problem is that after every summer the whole board as a whole becomes worse so its a slow descent into pure shittiness and one summer shall make this board complete cancer.

We are all doomed to a board full of cuckchan and reddit retards, but I'll fight and put up with it a little longer just to talk with you fags.

Just call these fuckers out whenever you can, report them and ignore them, just do your best and promote good discussion, good discussion shall arrive promply after.

reminds me of this

No the people who were hyping up Demon's Souls as the best game ever only actually played it recently since it can be emulated on PC now and have realized it is actually incredibly average.
Fallout New Vegas was a shell of a game with lots of potential that can only be realized with mods, same with Deus Ex.

I like this version better.

most archetypal 80's song of all time?
webm related*
but whats the coolest 80's song?
Men At Work - Down Under
youtube.com/watch?v=XfR9iY5y94s

the Casio was big in the 80's so you had the invention of Synth-Pop. Sythwave is basically techno with samples form 80's movie sound tracts. So the genera sounds nothing like actual 80's music but the interments it uses are vaguely reminiscent. The Pink/Purple and Black aesthetic is a bastardization of the kind of art you might see on a Trapper Keeper, but overall the whole a e s t h e t i c meme is completely contemporary.

Talking Head are great.

It's in the blood, it's in the will, it's in the mighty hands of steel!
Not entirely a lot of it comes directly from old CGA games and PC98 games and from Win 3.1. Of course that means a e s t h e t i c is more late 80's early 90's than 80's proper but it isn't a complete anachronism.

Specifically, the a e s t h e t i c meme was a vaporwave thing that people started applying to synthwave for some reason.

That's also from a completely different genre, like said.
That was my fucking point.

eh, if we're talking strictly about the neon pink/purple grid thing, that's been a popular theme back then, I don't think it was shoved in like some other aspects. I'm not going to deny that it played a huge part in it though.

...

Oh yeah but that CMWK was considered ugly even back in the day. Hot Pink Black and Neon Green and teal would be more genuine 80's. The vaporwave meme is far to negroid. The real 80's where much more "white bread" and clean cut.
that's true but it usually had more neon colors in the composition and often was more pastels

I've been around long enough to be apart of the creation of the a e s t h e t i c meme. No need for a lengthy lecture.

My question is when did it become acceptable to rip of turn-based games? I mean, most of the targets are JRPGs and I can understand that, some people don't like them, others do, but since when did turn-based become the biggest enemy? I was on a thread the a few weeks back talking about this, and I mentioned games like Jagged Alliance 2, UFO games and Heros of Might and Magic and I got a lot of negative reaction saying that all turn-based games are "shit-tier". What the fuck does that even mean? I'm wondering if a lot of people just don't even play the game and maybe watch a video about it and just call it shit automatically because it's popular.

Also how the hell hasn't anyone said Police Quest: In Pursuit of the Death Angel? Granted I grew up with the SCI version and didn't play the original until much later in my life but that game was pretty awesome.

sound logic
:^)

Something nobody ever points out:
Electronic music was born in the 80s and the last good electronic songs also came out in the 80s.

You're up to 4 posts in a thread about things you don't like. That doesn't mean you have good taste. Go away. Why is this genre being shilled against by the likes of you? Fucking communist.

I understand that people are fucking retarded but cut me some slack man I'm not that dumb.

>THAT'S THE JOKE
(you) don't deserve those diggets faggot.

Shenmue 1 and 2.

...

Step it up

That's not even the best progressive pop song of the 80s.

wrong
pg3 and 4 were his last good albums

yee
