So Sega announced that PSO2 is coming to the Switch but nobody is talking about it? Well it's not technically coming to it since it just streams the PC version onto your screen via Cloud based sharing. So yeah…

Who cares? You even said it yourself, it just streams it. Why fucking bother?

...

Aren't the japanese super pissed about it for some reason?

Also 8ch hates PSO2 in general

hello newfag

I don't think so. You might be confusing that with the anime that came out last year, I think. Though, I'd prefer if they went back to the old Phantasy Star of Genesis instead of just iterating off Online.

Thanks for proving my point retardo.

You'd think game with perfect blend of waifu making and action combat grinding would be 8ch's favourite game.

They will find a way to censor that.

Nah, I like PSO2, but I don't give a shit about a dumb switch stream thing.

Why? its like 10 years old game and out on every console available and PC

Every PSO2 thread I have seen and been in has ended up being extremely critical on how shit the game is.
They never addressed any of the underlying problems that the game had back when it was in CBT and the only people who play it are people who know nothing of the CTB and are unaware of the fact that the game is an beta with a shit load of trash content added on.

I fucking hate to admit it, but if there is an official English version I might end up picking up a Switch in desperate hopes that I will be able to get my pals who didn't bother with 2 due to language barrier and because everything is better with friends

I played it for years now but it is true that I never played it during CBT.
What wasn't changed since then?

...

Lol no, pretty sure that they don't buy brand new consoles.

Some quick things.
To be fair they did change some things as well like

They bought the wii but that was because it was relatively inexpensive.

That actually makes sense considering it had a Metal Slug and KoF collection.

What? I just said that spics don't buy new consoles, how is that consolewarring you idiot?

Maybe it's my nostalgia but I like them. At least those that came before EP4. Tokyo and everything since then sucks ass.
Not sure if you mean that or what. People maining hunters are usually just in process of leveling it for subbing.
Yes. They are. Why do they even exist?
Really? I play casts since PSO1 so I don't know these horrors.
I don't even know what that is.
It's fucking shit isn't it? Why can just mobs drops enough meseta to get you by? Or mission rewards be worthwhile like in portable games?
I only enter casino when new bingo card asks for it. There is nothing of worth or fun there.
Gotta attract those mobile crowds. It's big in japan.
There is a plot?
What?

NEVER EVER

Let's be honest, neither PS2 nor 3 aged well.
And PS4 has retarded production values. It should have had crazy budget for its time. It also was fuck huge. I thought I fought last boss like 3 times before actually fighting the last boss.
Making something similar today is not real, it would probably end up like FF15 mess.

It actually had much higher production values than that, since the original PSIV was going to be a Sega MegaCD exclusive with full animated cutscenes and voice acting. The whole game was planned to be something like 20x larger than previous games, full 3D dungeons, and would have featured some kind of return of Alisa Landale.

But midway through development, it was clear that the SegaCD was tanking, and production resources were shifted to the Genesis - requiring basically an entire redesign of the game.

That's why PSIV had those visual novel like cutscenes… they still wanted to put the heart of the FMV concept into the game, and still images was the best they could do with the cartridge. Alys Brangwin was basically a rewrite of Alis Landale.

You can't have nostalgia for something you still exists to this day. Thats like saying you are nostalgic for this September when its fucking September now.
Tokyo is no different then any of the other levels really.
IIRC it has the most number of class exclusive rare weapons
Gunblades were supposed to be the weapon that bridged the differences in the classes. They were supposed to be the universal side arm that everyone would use, but there is no reason to use them
I also have exclusively mained CAST, though its been since BB
Can't find a decent video of it but people just went around doing this
youtube.com/watch?v=y3WWDnxsmRI
Not featured is
CROSS BURTS
ONE MORE
And the wonderful joys of the bald man lobby art everyone was spamming
Yeah its shit but its what the game is boiled down into, and its a change for the worse.
Casino is shit either way
Yea the plot is fucking retarded and told by a melodramatic time traveling dragon lady thing its worse then it sounds.
Tamer class is bootleg MLP

Also PSO2 isn't even that much like PSO its more like PSU, hell they were considering calling it PSU2

I think that the first one has aged like a fine wine especially when you use the FM Synth soundtrack and compare the game as a whole to say DQ2 or FFI but I haven't played any of the Genesis titles to lay any judgement.

Not really, that's just something added by the localization. Her Japanese name is Lyla.

...

Nigga, go play PS4 right now. It's one of the best classic RPGs.

This is it, we reach a brand new low for gaming.

It's not brand new at all.

PS Now says hello

Well, maybe I'm misremembering, but I could have sworn that I heard Reiko or someone say that was the case. Though, Alisa wouldn't have died mid-way through the game.

Wonder if any of those old design document and assets still exist? Sega probably threw them all in a dumpster and burned them.

How can you explain WOW still being alive then?

The different between this and service like phantom and onlive is that they were advertise as a streaming service and you get more than 1 game(in case of PS Now). PSO2 on switch was advertise as a port which is not. Why the fuck can't they make an actual port? the game in on Vita for fuck sake

PSO2 is free :^)

WoW has changed a lot since it started, PSO has stayed virtually the same.

Vita confirmed stronger than Switch :^)

No, there's a good portion of experienced PSO players here including myself who hate PSO2 for what it is. It was super fun in beta, great that sega finally came back to the PSO brand instead of PSU etc etc, but after 2 years of PSO2 the game offered nothing. It was fun i'll grant it that, it had nice combat 120 fps, great graphics, dress 'em up was nice. But for me the game is PSU2 not PSO2. It has too many similarities drawn from PSU rather than PSO, and the game caters more to anime and crossovers than PSO did. I still prefer pso because I've got the nostalgia and I know the ins and outs, and love the progression. I made sure to let this board know that PSO1 will stand the test of time over PSO2, but that's a given since we have private servers and the game works offline.

Bullshit. It's got WAAAY more anime tie-ins now.

PSO1 doesn't really stand the test of time.
It's too primitive and clunky to be fun when people tasted better gameplay, UI and controls.
It's good for a few days of nostalgia, but nothing else.

It will stand the test of time because it was THE game back then on console that began it all. You had your own character offline, but you could play with your friends locally and help them out. There were many tips to tell each other about. Then there was online multiplayer, a first on console. You could talk, trade, fight, hunt and do anything together. It was simple too. Log on, join a random room with the difficulty you want, learn what quest they want to do and have fun.

Again, are you saying mechanics don't only? PSO servers right now, GUI is 1080p, game runs in 1080p+. Custom UI mods are out there, even UI icons and sounds can be replaced. Controls can even be programmed anywhere you want. Pioneer 1 town access is quick, likewise zones. Clunky? The game focuses on combo's, and you have units that speed up combat, and traps. With a joystick you can tilt the character to any direction. I disagree that its clunky.

What's the difference between the PSO2 ships?

Ship 4 is most populated, with ship 1 in 2nd place. Ship 2 is DESIGNATED GAIJIN SHITTING STREET but even there JPs are the majority in their own time zones. Ship 9 is also supposedly where real girls play. The others don't stand out.

Thanks. Do you need any special tricks to run it on an English Windows PC? I have the **PS4* version, but I'd rather play on PC. Don't need any UI translations or anything.

I don't think it requires japanese system locale, but I don't know because I leave it on all the time. The official launcher should work just fine, but there's a torrent out there somewhere that has the first 40 gigs of the base game that downloads much faster

I already have my PC set to Japanese locale anyway.

Geez, what kind of launcher is this? It doesn't even tell you how much it's downloading or at what speed. Unless the 60033 refers to MB.

You can't even jump let alone juggle enemies in the air in PSO1 though.
It's basically Ragnarok Online in space.

I can't wait to hear what an unplayable shitheap it is. They should have ported PSO2es to the Switch, not PSO2.

It's exactly the same as PS one.
I.e. it will work as long as you are in japan somewhere.

More importantly they are buffing standard classes to be more on par with Hero. I'm so glad they went buff route instead of just nerfing Hero.

No, it's fucking not. The Switch version connects to a cloud server that reads the player input, passes it along to the PSO2 servers, waits for a response, then streams a video of the server's response to the Switch. The PS4 and Vita versions connect DIRECTLY TO THE PSO2 SERVERS. The difference between direct connection and cloud connection is that the PS4 and Vita versions have client side combat, but the Switch version will only ever have server side combat.
As for the class thing, they admitted last night that if enough people keep bitching about hero from the 27th on out, they'll consider nerfing it.

I meant PS streaming gaming service thing whatever it is called.
Of course PS versions of PSO2 are real games and not glorified videos.

That would be shameful. But as long as I'm getting my classes buffed I'll be satisfied. I'm not Hero player.

Oh, yeah. That Playstation Now won't work for shit, either. The infrastructure for streaming like that just isn't there outside of Japan, South Korea, and a few European countries.
I love hero and probably won't be interested in playing the other classes until another advanced one comes out, and I'm all for buffing the way the previous classes work, but I hate that people seem to be forgetting the advanced in advanced class. Hero is supposed to be better than the classes that came before it. Sega could have avoided this situation entirely by releasing multiple advanced classes for Episode 5.

To be honest Hero feels like a beginner class to me.
Sure he is powerful, but he's also very simple to play. No fuckery with stances, or different builds, or conditions for maximum damage.
He actually takes less skill or knowledge to play than most other classes. It's just raw power and mobility that makes him this good.

That's not entirely true. Hero boost is a significant chunk of your damage (60%). Considering that PSO2 players just came out of 5 years of slamming their heads into walls and letting automate and iron will save them, they'll never see a lot of hero's potential. That's why it's an advanced class.

That doesn't compare to limit break or chain trigger though. Or necessity to grind for s rainbow palette of 13* weapons.

so a niche mmo is coming to much more niche system instead of west pc

PSO2 is the second most popular mmo in japan with a huge chunk of gaijins playing it all over the world.
It's not WOW but I wouldn't call it niche.

it's not even out for the west switch, why would it even out for the west pc?

It's a matter of brand recognition. If I go up normalfags and ask them if they played any phantasy star games the reply I'd get back would probably be.

"I love Final Fantasy, I've pretty much played them all :^D, 7 is my favorite"

Unless they're properly into gaming and are knowledgeable of different series and such I doubt many people would recognize the PSO series. I put in the same realm as SMT, Dynasty warriors, Stalker, or some other foreign produced game with a sizable if not cryptic following.

PS2 is the only RPG I think I've played where the world and movement through it was to scale of the character sprites.

You couldn't play it without the guidebook, either -the game actually came with it packaged.

Also, fite me.

Why would anyone recognize a game that isn't release on the west?
PSO series is niche only to gaijin but in Japan, its a well known game and have a lot of crossover from anime to other games.

If you ask normalfags about fantasy anything you'll be deemed gay and beaten up.
Also nice formatting.

I reckon the reason they can't port it is cause the game is 40+ gigs.

But muh vita

is that an Elona related picture?

No, that's fanart for Phantasy Star 3.

Finally, a Skill Reset ticket
Tool Mastery was a mistake

I would have rathered they just ported PSO:BB to the Switch. I'd have been all over that shit.

Reminder to make two dummy characters to get more tickets.

Vol Dragon BTFO not really this thing fucking sucks

Wrong video I assume?
Either way nothing wrong with more dragons.

Yeah the link on PSUblog swapped out for some reason. You can still see the screencaps over there though.

Well it looks like classic fantasy dragon, while PSO2 dragons all looked like dinosaurs/mechs.
What's wrong with it?

It looks pretty good in that screenshot, but if you can find the video and watch it, it's actually pretty ugly while in motion. It also looks like a very normal and boring boss fight.

Well I haven't seen the video.
I mean most of PSO2 bosses are pretty standard, with exception of maybe Varda and Magatsu.
What's your favourite boss?

I enjoy boss fights where the bosses are huge beasts that are practically the whole stage themselves, like Elder and Profound Darkness.

If we're talking about bosses across the series, I like Dark Falz fish ver the most.

...

Bump.
Do any of you play pvp in PSO2?
How is it?

So what? Doom (2016) is getting ported and that game is 60 gigs.

It's good in short stints, but the reward isn't worth playing PVP in a game that wasn't designed for PVP.

Basically you get what you'd expect with non-japanese lag.
