It's definitely the best alternate skin. I also don't know what the tattoos are. In fact, I originally thought the skin was supposed to be like another version of a corrupt/otherworld Heather, so it was a little off putting for me at first. But the more I played with the skin, the more I came to think it was really cute due to the hair, contacts, and other facial accoutrements.

I think there would be more female protagonists if there was less publishers or marketing people saying the core demographic wants male characters, and it wouldn't be for feminist reasons. A lot of young writers just really like girls.

Since MK9. Armageddon was the last MK game by the original MK team with their own rules.

You'll notice that in DA, Deception, and Armageddon, they had multiple bonus mods and a heavy emphasis on humor to lighten the story. Puzzle Kombat, Konquest mode, Mortal Kart Kombat.

But come MK9, there was fighting and… that was kinda it. MKX still doesn't have anything extra.

Hilariously, I remember reading a slightly cringy feminist article in the early 90's about women in videogames, and playable, powerful, clearly female characters.

This article would have triggered the living crap out of today's feminists, because after going through a few contenders for the crown, they declared the best female videogame character and the role model that everyone else should be looking to emulate to be Princess Toadstool in Mario 2.

And her reasoning was absolutely sound: the Princess was special because her feminine qualities were celebrated, rather than diminished. Samus, the article argued, didn't really count as a "strong female heroine", on account of there was nothing "girly" about her - to the extent that the fact that she was female was a surprise twist ending.
By contrast, to Princess Toadstool was running around in a bright pink dress that doubled as a paraglider. Her feminine qualities actually factored into the gameplay: she wasn't as strong or fast as the boys, but this was more than balanced out by the fact that she could hover, making her easily the best character in the game.

At the time I thought the article was a bit eye-rolling (as the author was definitely whining about how little female representation there was, and insisted on using the spelling "womyn"), but it's funny in hindsight how different it is from today's SJW types, who insist that female characters have to be there and better than the men at everything, but don't you DARE have them do anything actually feminine. Speaking of Fire Emblem. I didn't think Nintendo/Intelligent Systems could be so anti-consumer with their DLC. I thought Fates was bad splitting 1 game into 3 and making the third part's plot make certain decisions in the other versions irrelevant. Hell it brings the plot of both games together for the true ending so not getting part 3 meant you're not getting the whole story. Then there's the newest game that gives you about 20% (if that) of the content while charging more than the base game for it. The season pass was also more expensive than the main game. And to put the cherry on top, they falsely advertised that you would be saving around 15% by getting the season pass when it was actually less than 10%.

Does no one remember the boss fights in that game? You do actually have to fight and you can die. It is pretty damn scripted but you still have a good amount of control during the fight.

Baiken was one of the most important characters story wise, along with Anji Mito, and it's no exaggeration to say finally including her was one of few the ways they could salvage Xrd. Instead they turned female Guts into an angry cunt who walks sexily contrary to both her old and new character.
