Is it me or does it look worse than the original? Why would anyone play this over the snes version?

Is it me or does it look worse than the original? Why would anyone play this over the snes version?
Seriously, why were people so excited about this? I saw so many people saying they "couldn't wait" for it to come out, what the fuck?

This looks like a mobile game.
In fact some mobile games look even better today.
Who would play it?
Everyone.
Because it's a squeenix game so both normalfags, weeaboos and everyone in-between will fucking play it.
Why?
To replace the original and to lower quality standards among general public and so-called game enthusiasts.
What? You like 16 bit pixel graphics over it? Oh my aren't a little angry contrarian hipster piece of shit?
Preorder this right now to redeem yourself!

You should know by now in this post-Kickstarter world that merely telling someone to be excited for something will be enough to make them shit their pants in anticipation.

I can't think of a single reason to play this over the original.
I can't think of a single reason to play the original because it frankly isn't very good.

I don't understand why they didn't remake Chrono Trigger instead, that's the popular one.

I didn't think a day would come when I would have to say that a Secret of Mana is too colorful.

Also that minimap is so pointless. If they'd just zoom the camera out a little bit you wouldn't need it, but that'd probably make the awful color pallet even more of a hindrance to your visibility.

Normalfags, that's who.

The problem is that it's less coloful if anything. Look at the trees and water in the map to see the greater contrast that's present in the SNES version. Pretty sure the character sprite was a lot darker too.

There are people alive who unironically bought this.

Do you imply that directly or otherwise pandering to some degenerate fucking fetishes is a somehow bad business strategy?
Of course deranged perverts will fucking buy it.

Of all the porn games out there, you'd think they wouldn't be this desperate.

You have no fucking idea how much furfags can spend on their shit. You just don't.

Why do game companies do this? Are they not aware I could find that same exact wallpaper somewhere on the internet for free?

i will buy this game just to piss autists on Holla Forums off. i'm poor as fuck, but i'll make sure i get the special DLC costumes too. i'll put them on my characters, take screenies in glorious 4k ultra HD, and post them religiously in any thread about a square enix game.

I am incredibly interested in seeing how they handle some of the end-game weapon techs. The original has them flying around, zooming back and forth on swords, supplexing monsters, spinning whips in 999999999 directions, etc etc. How will that translate to a modern-looking game?

I'm betting poorly, but damn do I want to see it. Also, that mini-map is a shoop, right? For contrast purposes, yes? There's no way they're just going to leave the original SNES map right there in the corner for the real game. That's just dumb.

I'm still gonna pirate the HELL out of this. It's been enough years since my last playthrough anyways.

You're pretending right?

Because they were told that SoM is some awesome masterpiece game. I once too fell for it, bought the actual SNES cartridge for the authentic experience. It really wasn't that good and it was buggy as fuck. Luckily I ended up selling the game more expensive than what I paid for it because cartridge prices were beginning to rise at that time.

There are people who don't really care about the game, they just want to be part of some community. It's not limited to games either, really just anything that can serve as an excuse for socializing. You buy it because you want to be with the in-clique, and maybe you'll play it for an hour or two.

And then of course you also have people who have genuinely shit taste.

I don't get it, it's not like there's a "secret of mana" forum somewhere.

The new graphics completely kill the aesthethic appeal the original game had.
I don't even want to imagine how fucking bland a Legend of Mana remake with this same engine would look like.

...

but they did already a ps2 game with similar graphics, it was kinda meh tier, its not bad but certainly not impressive either, i think the Mana series has always managed to come out a bit bland in the graphics department. Maybe due to the generic designs or because its yet another JRPG, but at least i think Seiken 3 was the most outstanding

The real question is why would anyone play any videogame at all? They're all fucking SHIT

...

The only thing i'm wondering is why the fuck is square enix charging 40 bucks for this, when a physical SNES cart can be found for about the same price, if not a little less.

Let me guess, you kept getting bodied by the werewolves in the witches forest, and rather than get good, you scalped the game off for profit.

Nope, that's a real inclusion. 3 mins in vid related, they start talking about it, it's basically there for nostalgia pandering and appealing to the casual audience, who might get lost.

Also this footage looks fucking awful, who thought it was a good idea to add voice acting to the game, and why did they chose such a whiny faggot for Randi.

Yeah, it sure does. Leaving alone the unnecessary voice acting, I can't get over thow zoomed in the screen is. That's almost a deal breaker, actually.

It's begrudgingly workable when you've only got Randi, but just imagine how much of a scrunched up shitshow it'll be when you get the Princess and Sprite. Especially if you're playing with others. With those inevitable moments when your friends want to go somewhere else, or grab something just off screen and they refuse to budge on it, the zoomed in screen will be godawful. To make matterw worse, they've got that retarded minimap right there, constantly reminding you every single second that you could be playing the superior version, without the shitty screen.

I am super looking forward to the Princess though. She looks mega cute. Probably the only improvement the remake has actually accomplished.

It's not fucking 2D.

Second this. I fee like Secret of Mana being good is one of the biggest meme in gaming.

What really blows my mind is that Mana is somehow more popular and better remembered than Evermore, when the world and settings of Evermore are infinitely more interesting than Mana's generic derivative JRPG garbage.

because the original was made by people with talent and craftsmanship, working at the top of their level, whereas this remake is being made by z-tier mobile developers who don't have a fraction of the skill necessary to replicate such an exquisite game.
Its like the Final Fantasy 3-6 remakes, which you can find on steam, they're either garbage 3D models or terrible sprites that look worse than the original.

...

Because then they'd probably have to get Akira Toriyama back, but he's probably a lot more expensive now than he was back in the day.

He had nothing to do with this game.

I am probably going to play it. I honestly don't care about Graphics and I think the Low poly modes are a nice aesthetic.

Maybe it's really a poster? Who am I kidding it's probably just one of the biggest resolutions you can find in google

Looks like a mobile game. I wouldn't be surprised if they ported this to mobile a few months after release.

No it's not just you, it looks horrible

This formatting is even worse than Reddit spacing.

user, porn is cheep. Getting a tiger bikini for your Purimu wafuu is priceless.

This thread is irrefutable proof that Holla Forums is shit, and you should never listen to what anyone here says.

This is because there is nothing actually wrong with "Reddit spacing" in and of itself. Attacking the style itself is idiotic. It's just that people who post in that style are usually tremendous faggots.

...

Why don't you enlighten me and tell me what exactly it is that is wrong?

I think user might have been thinking of Legend of Mana

Secret of Mana is being namedropped all the time everywhere when people talk about 16-bit games.

No, I got pretty far into the game actually. I was still in my "well, it's got to finally start getting good eventually" phase. The game is not hard, it's just slow and buggy (attacks randomly not connecting or registering seconds later) and unbalanced (spells are way OP, the strategy guide that came with the game even flat-out tells you that you can kill any boss without taking damage if you spam spells and restore HP immediately when you run out). I had to intentionally refuse to use spells to make the game challenging.

My guess is that being a multiplayer real-time RPG gave SoM a certain quality that no other game could offer. Everything is more fun with friends, even watching paint dry, so a mediocre RPG that you can play together will be remembered more fondly because there is no other RPG (on the SNES) that scratches that itch.

Final form of the mana sword was the Excalibur… Not the Mana sword. Jesus Christ.
I wonder if they left in the lewd picture in the national scar and mystic book enemies. Probably just replaced them with some stupid meme if anything.

The snes game was very well done, but there's lots of room for improvement. 3d rendered graphics, higher resolution, improved play control (even though original was very responsive), and also a chance to recompose the OST for longer tracks. Is that also a minimap in the screenshot or was that shopped in there? I think a minimap would be a great idea

I like the game, but it wasn't particularly well made, supposedly ~40% of it was slashed and burned to fit it onto an SNES cart because the SNES CD got shitcanned.

*which actually be a good justification for this remake, but judging from the comments from squeenix so far, it's obvious that this is just pure nostalgia bait, and not a real remastering.

You get the Excalibur like halfway through the game. You're thinking of the Dragon Buster.

You can actually upgrade it to the Sword of Mana, but it requires an exploit that basically has a 50% chance of corrupting your save file.
