What other games other than Open TTD can I play on this 2006/7 Macbook?

I like the challenge of working with a limited canvas and palette.

Macs play games?

Apparently…..sort of……with difficulty.

OpenRCT2

Totally up my alley. Wasn't aware of an open source version. Ta

Heroes of Might and Magic III

Marathon

Know of it only from reference. How does it hold up? Used to be a massive Halo CE fan.

Definitely be having a gander

The second one is a pretty good Doom like, the lore is confusing as fuck.

YT vids have got me intrigued.

Holy crap! Enjoying this. Solid recommendation.

Civ IV

Assumed it would be too much to handle. If that's not the case, that takes care of a good few hours.

Also I'm pretty sure WINE is available for Mac, which opens up 90% of older PC games to you.

Remember WINE being a headache on Fedora when I used to use it.

Just install gentoo on a 7 year old thinkpad.

Just install a Windows partition with Boot Camp you fuckwit.

only kids and 89iq plebs still use windows

Why Gentoo over other distros? Used a couple in the past.

Don't listen to Holla Forums shitposters.

Serious question. Linux partition isn't a stupids idea, even if it's booted from USB. Just been a wile since I played with Linux.

This meme again… Macs and Linux computers can play games just fine, it's not the fault of the OS that game developers don't target these platforms or only make shit ports. Indie games are often developed for all three OSes at the same time and run just fine, while with AAA the non-Windows ports are an afterthought and a hackjob.

I was almost asking for it posting from an OSX device here. Stupid people are predictable.

i'm a bit suprised microsoft hasn't begun selling a functional directx for linux to consumers. it wouldn't solve every issue (ex: autodesk drm will not properly function on linux) but it would potentially bring in money for m$ from users who otherwise wouldn't be supporting them.

What's stopped clever people developing a workaround to this?

Clever people are using Windows.

there's already a solution, but not a perfect one. it just seems like a missed opportunity.

OS X's OpenGL support is seven years behind and instead of bringing it up to date they're instead pushing their own bare metal API which requires devs to rewrite shit. How is that not Apple's fault?

It's a meme, you can use whatever distro you want. I recommend Void if you want minimalism or Plebian if you're new to UNIX in general.

I've used Fedora and Ubuntu in the past. Minimalist has appeal, I'll have to check out Void. Stumbled into unixporn a while ago and it intrigued.

Also finally get why it's called Plebian.

Every day's a lesson.

Void is shit. Full of issues and resource eating as hell.

Would that explain why I've never heard of it? Doesn't seem to stand out much from the dev site.

Currently eyeing up Arch

Back when I had a Mac I managed to get the first Fallouts and San Andreas running on it. Basically anything with low ram requirements and has a winewrapper version. You may also look into Aspyr's Mac conversions, I had copies of C&C Generals and Age of Empires III that ran perfectly.

Never had any issues with it eating resources or fucking up, maybe you were just PEBCAC'ing, lad.

guess there's no better opportunity to actually check out the original Fallouts.

Solid hardware spoiled me.

How about you just install gentoo
wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Apple_Macbook_Pro_Retina_(early_2013)

at least pay attention to the hardware I'm using

it took me 3 distro switches to get to debian. it's so comfy i'll probably never leave unless i need to for some reason.

OK, you got me there. What I said still holds for GNU/Linux though.

Escape Velocity series. Lots of mods for them too

Try tf2, I think it has mac support.

Played a few years ago. Never got the point of it. No endgame to aim at. Mechanically sound, but it didn't tickle my fancy.

This game looks really cool! No idea why it's never registered on my radar. Thanks for the recommendation!

Install Gentoo and Libreboot it.

Decided in Arch. Rice looks like a fun hobby

Boot camp it to windows 7/XP.

Also
Your practically asking for its GPU to shit itself. Everything past snow leopard fucks the fan control and temp sensor tables with these pre unibody macbooks. I would pay close attention to the temps while gaming. An x1600 should not exceed 75 degrees celsius.

Solid advice. I'll keep it in mind as I go along.

There's little chance that this will stay a dedicated OSX device. I just like the hardware and build quality compared to my usual sub £80 laptops.

...

you're putting words into my mouth.

If I gave a shit about using better soft/hardware do you really think I'd be using a 2006 Macbook?!

Don't listen to this CIA nigger. Install TempleOS.

That screenshot obligates me to at least check this out. The website alone sells me.
