Specially Xanadu Next. That masterpiece deserves bigger sales.

- Sen no Kiseki/Trails of Cold Steel III trailer has dropped: youtube.com/watch?v=fr-8b6S6HOQ
- Trails of Cold Steel I is out on PC on both Steam and GoG; ToCS II is also confirmed for PC with no release date available, though dialogue recording has started. Most guess some time around December or January.
- Tom on ToCS for PC: has its own separate launcher, "far more feature-rich than any other launcher we've ever had in any of our PC games to date" " There's not much you CAN'T do in that launcher." "You can tweak bloody EVERYTHING." It's also got a turbo mode that lets you speed up the game 4x, which is pretty sweet. It also runs butter smooth. Seriously, this port is great.
- Ys VIII will be releasing soon in the US on PS4, Vita, Steam and GoG. It's NISA though, so…
- Trails of Cold Steel III is on track for a Japanese release on September 28th of this year, confirmed PS4 exclusive. Check gematsu.com and esterior.net for further details
- Tons of Falcom/Kondo interviews with some interesting details, will eventually make a list and a tl;dr

- Zwei II coming this Summer (supposedly). Check this blog post to discover the game (xseedgames.tumblr.com/post/162167486725/zwei-the-ilvard-insurrection-localization-blog )
- The full Trails in the Sky trilogy is finally on English, available on Steam, GOG and the Humble Store
- Tokyo Xanadu brought by Askys, Vita version has already been released, and the improved Ex+ version for PS4 and PC on late 2017, although Amazon has November 24th, 2017 listed
- Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana brought by NISA, If you wish to complain, do so to Falcom, not XSeed (they're upset about it too). Good Japanese grammar is extremely recommended

- Trails to Zero fan tl at 30%. Ao is 55% translated, but not edited at all yet. A beta of the Zero TL from 2015 was leaked. It is full of typos and sounds like robots are talking, but it is at least coherent from start to finish. Play only if you are desperate. Machine TL of Azure has also been released, and it is as terrible as you would expect. It is completely unintelligible.
- The Legend of Xanadu I & II Dub Project announced, English tl patches coming in the next months ( tg-16.com/The_Legend_of_Xanadu_Dub_Project.htm )
- Also in the works: Zwei!!, Dinosaur Resurrection, Vantage Master Japan, Dinosaur Resurrection and Brandish 2 Renewal (PC-98)

Has there ever been any word on how/if we're gonna be able to transfer Cold Steel save files on the PS systems?

Why are you so retarded regarding the lastest news section? It's called "news" for a reason, not a fucking reminder to be copypaste'd for eternity.

For fuck's sake, there's not even a word about Ys Seven being released for PC or how NISA has been fucking up Ys 8 with a literal translation and what looks to be an extremely shitty PC port.

If you aren't competent enough to create a new thread, just don't fucking do it.

Anyone noticed that the girls in Ys are wearing more lewder clothes?

None yet.

How does he get away with it?

Preorder for Ys VIII tomorrow. Not sure if I'll get on Steam or GOG though.

Is there any good reason to not get the GOG version?

Oh yeah, I updated this.

I have made a huge mistake.

Lets do this.

Fuck this.

Rolling hoping for Millium, Altina, Renne, Towa, KeA or saltman.

Well….

Related at least. Kind of.

roll

roll

At least wait until it's released so you can see if the port isn't shit. Hell, I don't think preordering digitally even has any bonuses, so why?

I should really resist doing this.

Ys VIII is a good game, that's all that matters to me. Stop shitposting.

The japanese voice and voice acting in this specific case BLOWS THE ENGLISH ONE OUT OF THE FUCKING WATER. It's like Sorata from X/1999 difference, it's really astounding.

Getting it on Steam myself.

Patiry!

Rollan

Oh fuck!!

Fuck Cassius. One of the main reasons I played 3rd was to kick his smug ass, and after I do it he doesn't even have the courtesy to kneel and look beat up.

He wasnt

Hey, she's actually doing well for herself. Nice.

I heard she's been sucking dicks to make ends meet.

tfw I even assumed trails played like Ys and we'd be playing as the adol christin of staff users

Refrain from replying to him

Not even sure why I bothered to open this thread.

Buying games doesn't, but buying localizations does.

Don't you have the gundam threads to shitpost? You were already burnt by people proving you were not Japanese in the previous thread.

Reminder that it's been proven that NISA has done a half-assed job with the localization of Ys VIII, and could be hiding much more from the demo to convince people that it isn't as bad as their usual localizations. If you want to support Falcom without supporting a company that has deliberately mistranslated, censored, and ignored the fanbase of the games they localize, import the game and look up translations online of the dialogue and story. XSEED has their own fair share of issues they need to address, and if they get more popular and bigger, they may start to act more like other localization companies like NISA, but as it stands, they are a pellet compared to the giant pile of shit NISA and most other big localization companies are. Perhaps one day if Falcom gets enough money and gets it in their skull what western fans really want, they could pull a Neptunia and re-translate their games via a international company branch.

Time to roll and see who I get

well shit…

There's not much to do for me, but I'll be playing the game in French. Will see how the translation is for it.

Rollan

I assume Satan gets everyone's waifus.

Can you spot what's different.

I have an important Ys lore question. Do you guys think Adol gets very sweaty when adventuring? Would he mind getting licked? :>)

…Female Rean on the left?

I think he does, considering how all of his equipment never visually changes sans his swords.
REEE FUCK YOU FALCOM IT'S 2017 THERE'S NO EXCUSE FOR THIS YOU CAN DO WITHOUT SHITTY VOICE ACTORS

Trap Joshua.
Also where is Ricotta, damnit.

Not even Laxia is there.

Here you go.

Everyone's boobs are too small, especially Rexia Mao

...

>you'll never engage in friendly rivalry with Donald and Adol before joining forces to remove (((Dark Fact)))
Why live?

Why not Azure The Cobalt or Nero The Sable or Azul the Cerulean?

...

Can anyone check if Nihon Falcom are using some sort of blockbot? Seems weird that they'd have so many accounts blocked.

Are you blocked?

I have a twatter account and Falcom follows me for some reason.

Same, not sure why they blocked those people. I mean they even follow back some artists who draws loli porn.

I didn't realize duvalie was voiced by the same voice as satania. No wonder why she gets bullied so much.

Y'all niggas are crazy.

Go fight.

Time for autism.

...

I'm only a little bit into Trails in The Sky The 3rd, but am I correct in thinking it's more of a Ys game than a Trails one? There's story in it, sure, but it seems to mostly be in the doors, the main stuff at the moment seems like its just going to be a big dungeon and focus on combat while the character stories are side items.
If that's the case than I guess that's okay but kind of disappointing since I come to the series primarily for a comfy story.

It's game-long dungeon, yes. However, some of the doors are very important and very interesting. The story does pick up at the end and becomes something really cool. It's definitely the most different Trails game, but trust me when I say there's some fantastic story beats in there.

So I should try and power through the final chapters of SC for a good time?

The 3rd was my favorite Trails game until I played Zero/Ao.

...

I felt SC was very long and wouldn't fucking end but I still consider it my favorite of the two so far. 3rd I'm only just getting into playing but I do find myself missing the more prevalent story.
How different would you say 3rd is from SC? I liked SC a lot in the end primarily because it was very story heavy so 3rd so far makes me kinda disappointed since I knew it was a weird alternate world plot but I expected it to be story heavy from the start like SC. Personally a lot of combat without much story has never been my cup of tea so I've never gotten into the Ys series much at all.

Please stick with it, user. The doors are pretty frequent and Kevin's story is amazing.

Honestly I'm stuck at SC's chapter 7(the one with the tower revisits. At some point I realized I really wanted to see extra dialog between ouroboros and party members, but I didn't have Kloe in my party and so I'd miss dialog between him and her, and I didn't have a previous save so I quit. Plus the place seemed like such a massive dungeon and I had no intention of going through it three more times.
Actually just talking about it makes me want to play again.

The tower altered spaces are pretty short.

sold. Thanks user

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
AIDIOS CURSE YOU DOROTHEE!!

Need a virgin Joshua and Chad Coldsteel

What, Rean Coldsteel isn't enough?

Are the ouroboros enforcers all going to be this easy or are they holding back for the next chapter?

I dont find games hard unless they have dumb turn one Insta death mechanics
So yes

speak of the devil. Renee started off with her s craft which k.o'd three of my dudes and then the robutts petrified the fourth.
Guess I didn't spam Kevin's Sbreak fast enough

Yea I spent awhile trying to beat that fight
Iirc i didnt have a very optimal party and didnt save for awhile so just had to keep trying

...

Actually I beat it after retrying, it was just that starting s craft that needed Kevin's s-break.

You're scaring me, Adol.

Fuck you Capcom.

...

Support cakes.

Alisa's mom is hotter.

She looks pretty.

It's clear from her face that she's going to be in the Reanbowl.

Alisa is the main heroine anyways.

Naaaaaaaa she is just the most normalfag ideal choice
Fie is clearly the true one

Check the new trailer. It's pretty much a done deal at this point.

Thats what they want you to think

so I got some questions about trails of cold steel and I'd like to maybe play it. jrpgs are major time sinks so I want to make sure this one is worth my attention

Is it boring magical highschool bullshit or do they actually travel the world and do exciting shit

explains itself

I opened and was assaulted by cringy voice acting. If I have to play a whole game of that I'll catch aids and fucking die

explains itself

I'm pretty interested by what I see but I'm also incredibly picky with JRPGs

Its shit just replay persona 4

Clair is not a homunculus.

Yes, but it's a slow burn game for what is to come in Cold Steel 2. You travel through parts of Erebonia's eastern side to learn about the people living in Erebonia as well as the political conflicts Erebonia is having while dealing with a revolutionist group.
It's a JRPG. In battles there is some bit of strategy you have to use, especially towards the end. Mainly in how well you build your team. Not so much team composition, considering they force characters onto you to use. It's a nice way of learning each characters strengths in battle and out for the story beats, however.
Look in the OP for the PC version of Cold Steel and you'll find jap voices to download. Make sure to also get the dummy files as well.
If you want to 100% it in terms of side quests and to get the best gear then it'd take you about 70 hours maybe more.

no, most of what happens is pure filler bullshit and when shit seems to start happening the game ends, the characters are just anime cliché been Rean the worst offender( all girls want his dick for no good reason, secret power, secret past, a mecha only he can pilot and he call his name out loud, user of a super special sword style and the depth of a puddle) and the others are not much better, not to mention he "choose your waifu" mechanic been a total lie, Rean only really make moves on Alisa.
kinda, until you realize how broken it is.
there is IF YOU MOD IT
took me 72 hours, i don't really regret it but i find it be really disappointing and mediocre, i only recommend playing it if you have nothing better.

The only character that applies to is Alisa because she's the first girl he encounters. All the other girls are just doing their own thing and Rean comes along to hang out with them, furthering their bond through the game which then is applied to how they react when Rean comes back after the class is separated and it wasn't just the girls who reacted. It's the same deal with Estelle when she came back from her training. Rean and Estelle are/were integral members to the group. The people the group looked to for leadership or a light during dark times.
The special power we still don't fully understand because Rean himself still doesn't fully understand and will be answered in CS3. Same with his past which is most likely connected with his ogre form. This is an echo of Joshua and his mysterious past as well as his abilities. The whole thing with Valimar is connected to the story fairly well when it comes down to the cycles with Dreichels.
That same sword style that has been used since the beginning of Trails in the Sky and been in every game since. It is very nice to have a character who studied just a bit of the style to only drop out of it because he felt like he wasn't deserving of learning it because of his inner conflicts.
It's more that Alisa makes everything about her and uses Rean's good natured personality in order to justify how shitty she is. Alisa is the worst written character in all of Falcom's games. It is bullshit, however, that they do keep pushing her.

Yes. It takes its time setting up characters and story. The game is very railroaded and routine, every in game month you'll be going to a new part of the Empire to learn about it and the troubles there, as well as encountering the effects of the growing political conflicts and the potential of a civil war.

All in all it's kind of a huge prologue to the second game, where character development is sort of pushed aside in order to facilitate the overarching plot.

The game focuses on characters, their problems and hangups first and political plot second. The second game brings the latter one to the forefront.

Only Alisa.
That ties into the background plot of the entire Trails series. Expanded upon slightly in Cold Steel 2 where he encounters someone else with a similar power. Apparently will be the focus of Cold Steel 3, because we have yet to fully understand it.
Yes, and there are many other pilots that pilot similar mechas, now and previously. It ties in to cycles established with the story of Dreichels. Rean isn't even related to Dreichels. On top of this, he isn't just chosen, but has to complete a trial to actually gain control of Valimar. Crow went through the same thing.
That a lot of people use, or used to use in Cassius' case. Cassius Bright, Anelace Elfead, Arios Maclaine, Alan Richard all use(d) the same sword style. Anelace is the only one that injects her own style into it, while Cassius left the sword behind. I think Maximilian Cid uses the style as well.
It's more "choose your best friend" in the first. In the second game it's more akin to choosing your waifu (or best bro). Falcom DOES push Alisa much harder than the others and it's apparent in the scenes in both games. Alisa is the only one that gets a kiss in her final scene, for example. Still, the others are romantic, and less forced. Alisa's forced pushing is one of the things that I could say is a genuine flaw. She's pushed much more than any other girl, even going so far as to steal Gaius' chapter in the first game. Though I would say that Gaius is already a developed character by the time of the first game, his only hangup being that he's new to Erebonia and has to learn about it.

As for anime cliche characters, all the games have them, including Sky and Crossbell.

This. What's weird is that Elise wants to suck her brother's dick (everyone notices it except him) and everyone is okay with it because JAPAN. At least no one overly gushes at the MC.

It's a very japanese game through and through but I guess that's the main appeal. Honestly, I only played CS to see what's up. If this is the kind of writing that's in every Trails game then I can see why this doesn't have that much of a following.

That said, I'll still play CS2 and 3 if it ever comes out on PC simply because CS made me chuckle a few times and I want to see this shit through.

Last thread (or two ago) there were people complaining nothing happens and it's basically filler-prologue for CS2. 50 trillion hours of a prologue. I couldn't make myself finish it so I can't say for sure.
Nobody really plays Trails for combat, the only opinions you'll get are honest "it's bad", or at most something like "it's manageable/not a problem" while some will just avoid the subject.
Some are obvious faggots with "it's just a JRPG/turn-based game, they're all the same and I'm totally not talking out of my ass". If you see someone imply stuff like the last one, then know they didn't actually play much other games of the genre or are lying.
Mod only.
I gave up too fast to know

It is just a turn based rpg
Maybe its me because Grandia was my first turn based rpg
But all this shit is the same no matter how much you inovate its combat its still gonna be the same

Also there is nothing wrong with that, I like even the most simple dragon quest shit

That said there are a lot worse ones than CS

Nobody cares because Rean is adopted. It's the same reason why nobody cares if Estelle and Joshua fuck because they aren't related by blood.

Question.
Assume Calvard Arc plays like Lacrimosa. Better or worse than it playing like CS/TitS?

JRPG action…like final fantasy? just kill me.

I don't think it'd be good. The most unique thing about Trails' systems is the orbment customization to give different stats and spells, and that kind of gameplay would put a dent in that. It's fun, but let Ys VIII play like Ys VIII.

for added realism?

yeah right, she is really poorly written but so is everyone else, Laura specially is as shallow as you can get.
yes that is how it always works in many game/anime thous one of the most overused anime clinches, Kiseki background story is what pushed me to finish it but it's no excuse for shitty characters and CS awful main story.
NO SHIT? clichés don't bother at all when they are properly done and expand upon which is not the case of CS, the characters feel really shallow, i not asking for Rean to be a Kazami Yuuji but for fuck sake he feels so empty, it's like they tried to make him a proper character and just kinda give up, by the end of the game everyone was like WE ARE THE BEST BUDDIES EVER! I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT YOU GUYS! it got forceful and i felt zero connection, when it end i was thing "that's it? really? 70 hours for this? whatever", the same thing happen to my friends "i felt no connection" "it felt forced" "i felt nothing", CS to me lacks charisma and i will still give CS2 a shot, but if i it don't grab me by 10 hours i will probably drop the game and series for good.

and dropped

Honestly when I come to think of it the best parts of the trails gameplay are the boss fights. Best music, best mechanics, and more often than not they require more than just walking up to the enemy and wacking them hard enough they die before they hit you.

Yeah, you've no idea what you're talking about. Maybe if you actually spent time with characters and ingrained yourself in the world you'd understand the game better. You also have to consider they do a lot of time skips where the characters are always interacting as well. So your complaints of them being "we're the bestest of friends" etc is unfounded. You might not have connected with them because you didn't bother to connect with them.

Are people seriously retarded enough to think a trailer proves anything? It's a trailer. And since it's a narrative trailer and not a feature trailer they have to pick one, and obviously they'd pick poster girl. That doesn't mean she's forced on you in game.

Trails is all about world building. Honestly, you can start with Cold Steel but it won't seem as good without playing earlier games first. Trails is a very long series, wit ha shitton of character and continuity. It's a huge commitment to get into but if you do you'll be rewarded with one of the best created RPG worlds ever, where every NPC feels lively and there are story connections everywhere across multiple arcs of story. You have to be patient, though. The games move at their own pace. If you are expecting a thrill every minute Trails isn't for you. It's all about buildup, which makes the payoffs that much better.

It's pretty fun. There are ways to break it, though, which are different depending on which arc you're playing. Cold Steel is one of the easiest to break, though it can be satisfying to do so.

It's in the OP user. In big red letters.

70-80 hours, depending on how thorough you are and how much you want to stop and smell the roses. The high end for a Trails game.

Also why did all the people who responded to that one post about Cold Steel's quality negatively seem like they haven't played any Trails game but CS, despite the series being hugely long and loaded with continuity?

Literally the only girl that wanted to jump on his dick was Alisa. Also Elise but she's not a part of the class/has bonding events so I don't really count her.

You just don't like the characters, it's not that they're shallow.

Rean is insecure, has identity issues (being an abandoned child, adopted into a noble family), desperate in looking for a place to belong. He didn't feel comfortable at home in Ymir, which is the entire reason why he left to go to Thors. The class became that place to belong for him, so at the end when he was forcefully parted from them, to him he was losing his only place to belong.

He doesn't think highly of himself, blaming himself for other nobles ostracizing the Schwarzer family after they took him in.

He has no sense of purpose, no goal other than to find a goal. He doesn't know where or how to start. He tries to distance himself… from himself. While he cares for Elise he tries to distance himself from her and the rest of the Schwarzer family. He doesn't join a club, despite being proficient with the sword and lute. And he only feels comfortable when his mind is not occupied with himself; so he takes on the problems of others. His insecurities makes him push himself into danger without thinking at all.

If you think Rean is a bit bland, then you'd be right. He is. But that's because he wants to fit in. He has a hidden otherworldly power that he squashes and doesn't want anyone else to know about. Not because it's too dangerous, (the first time he used it, he saved Elise, and Elise didn't even treat him differently afterward) but because he's terrified of it and it makes him the "other". It makes him different.

He constantly downplays his sword skills (consistently saying he's a dropout of the school that couldn't hack it, much to Laura's chagrin), he holds back when fighting (pointed out by Victor). He continuously tries to make himself seem normal, and constantly deny who he is. At the beginning of the game he tells Machias that he doesn't have a single drop of noble blood in his veins, which is TRUE, but it also denies the connection he has to the Schwarzers.

But no matter how hard he tries to keep himself looking normal, the world forces situations upon him that makes it harder and harder to deny himself. He is forced to use his power to save Elise again. Victor forces it out of him as well. Though throughout CS1 he gradually gets better at coming to accept himself, but the development starts coming too late as everything goes to shit.

Immediately the place he belonged to starts to fall apart. He's still desperate for that one place, and in that desperation, accepts and summons another otherworldly power which is now permanently assigned to him, and one that everyone around him, stranger and friend can know and see. This sets him further apart from everyone else and makes it so that it's now even harder for him to fit in anywhere.

On top of this, he fails spectacularly to protect what he held most dear, and is forced to run away with his tail between his legs, leaving his friends to an unknown fate. This is a terrible blow to his psyche and he starts off CS2 broken, clinging desperately to the idea of finding his classmates, waking up an entire month after the event, Valimar having kept him alive using its resources.

i see, so spending over 70 hours and talking to everyone like i did was not enough? hell even the NPCs were more interesting to me than the main cast like the lover couple and the one that is always fighting or the kid who fall in love with the novice nun or the twins or the rich dude being chased by that ugly fatass but no i totally missed how great a character Laura is, like how she likes swords, can't act feminine and is very stoic, remember her likes and dislikes? her quicks? her fears? her goals? what makes her more than a cliché? such depth!

Fanboys truly are something else, the game had plenty of time to show it me and it didn't, but somehow it's my fault? the entire purpose of the game was to present Class 7 and make you care for the characters, it failed miserably except for fanboys who look at the game with rose-colored glasses and make up excuses as they go to do defend poor writing.

i spend over 70 hours with this and talked to everyone any chance i got like i did in Sky and Zero, but somehow it's my fault the characters are bland as fuck, got it.

Despite what happens at the beginning of the intermission in CS (his beaten by Crow again, and he is taken captured, once again separated from the friends he just reunitved with) he matures enough to accept himself even more, being able to use his special power at will instead of outright denying it, and also graduates to intermediate level in his sword style.

Before the final encounter, he's come to terms that even if he beats Crow, things won't go back to being the same between them But after that, things go to shit once again. Crow is impaled and supposedly killed before his eyes. Osborne who is supposed to be dead, re-appears, making all Crow's work for naught. Osborne reveals that he is actually Rean's father, and the one who abandoned him in the snow all those years ago.

During CS2, he finds out that his power is quite possibly not natural. McBurn points out that something was probably "mixed" into his chest just like McBurn has something "mixed" into his entire body. At the end of CS2 Rean's become jaded, cynical and snarky, but he's matured enough to let go of his friends at the end when they decide to split up and pursue the goals that they (re)discovered while at Thors. Piloting Valimar has become a curse more than a blessing as he's forced to participate in the war between Erebonia and Crossbell. He's heralded as the Ashen Chevalier, a title and position that he does not want. At the very end, Rean alone remains at Thors, because he once again has no goal and no place to belong. He's back at the starting point, though now less optimistic, naive and more mature, jaded and realistic.

The "His smile and optimism, gone" picture you might see floating around isn't just a meme, it's an accurate representation of his character development. For the majority of the first game Rean has a futile struggle with his identity and is desperately searching for a place to belong. As soon as he gets verbally slapped and starts to get slightly better, the plot kicks him in the teeth. This happens again in CS2 which turns him into the bitter and cynical Rean at the end.

...

Also there is actually lots more to talk about. Like how Crow is a reflection of Rean, and Rean knows this, at least subconsciously. Falcom doesn't try to hide it.

Something like opposite sides of the same coin. When they face each other, they can see their true selves. There may be a resemblance, but they'll never face the same direction.

...

Her in-game model is much thicker than the art.

They did the same for Altina and Millium. Their sexy original outfits became dumb generic school outfits.

Her CS3 outfit is her lewdest one yet. It's just one step above topless loli with overalls. And Altina now appeals to the tights crowd.

entire bonding scene about her learning to cook in an attempt to embrace her femininity.
gets annoyed at rean disrespecting that which she cares about (the sword)
her conflict with fie
her embarrassment towards and subtle concern for her father
swimming which relates not only to her place of birth but her athletic skills and personality (considering harsh swimming in a lake as casual)
dislikes "immoral behaviour" essentially what she see's as unjust as seen through her conflict with fie, this also shows as she herself admits a weakness of hers being narrow-mindedness which she then tries to overcome.
difficulty with technology and domestic chores, not wholly static though as above mentioned she tries to change this
Also deals with somewhat unwanted popularity with girls, likely due to her boyish nature.
Actually likes quite things like other girls but avoids them due to her being self conscious about them not fitting her image, hence showing self awareness, although she again also tries to overcome this.
being seen as too masculine and being unable to find a partner.

Over CS1 and 2 there is about 30 mins (going by the YT vids) of bonding events for Laura, are you seriously trying to say nothing happens in any of them ?
There is also an arc focused on a conflict between her and fie, and the arc where they visit her hometown, as well as her prominence within the story as part of the main cast.

Do I prefer and think the characters in sky and zero/ao where done a bit better, yes, but that doesn't make CS's bad, you're full of shit and if you have actually played this game are either retarded or have wilfully skipped/ignores large chunks of the game

Fuck sake, i'm not even a laurafag and i can see this, there are characters in CS that are rather bland (emma from a personality perspective for example) but Laura is not so, the fact that you can't read subtlety and present little to no argument says a lot though.

also there's probably a lot i'm forgetting but excuse me i'm more than a little drunk

It's taboo, regardless. People don't get a pass on a technicality that easily. They grew up in the same house, they treat each other and are treated like they're siblings. That's more than enough for society to go ewww. Not to mention Westermarck effect.

It wouldn't be such an issue for me if this isn't a goddamn trope in almost every jap story with siblings in it, blood related or otherwise. You'd think that a company sporting what is supposedly "one of the best written JRPG series" would at the very least try something different instead of seemingly doing a checklist of each typical anime character archetype.

At least Alisa is only a super lite-Tsundere so that's a a bit different, but I think this series' greatest fault will be shown in CS3 where there won't be any Sara, Vita and Claire foursome scenes with Rean.

I think the greatest issue here is that CS1 feels like half a game. I'm sure now that the characters are established, CS2 or 3 will spice it up a bit. I hope.

Alternate costumes will rectify this maybe? Millium's alternate with bunny ears in CS was super cute and made her character bearable at the very least.

This is Altina's alternate costume.

I really hope at least some of the alternate costumes will be available in game this time, they'll probably want all the money they can get though maybe more ingame accessories to make up for it at

It's only "taboo" because retards can't differentiate between blood relation and not blood relation. Hell, Elise's mother and father are gung ho about it. As were everyone in Rolent. Also, I shouldn't have to say it, but it's fictional. It's not real, so you shouldn't try to put real world views into it. I can totally understand if they were actually blood related, but there's nothing there actually stopping them morally.

In the case of Joshua and Estelle they were 11 when they moved in together. You know, right on the cusp of puberty? That would cause plenty of issues for people in the real world, let alone anime world.

Altina for good reason, she's part of the class that Rean teaches in the Reeves campus. Millium's is almost the same as her Cold Steel 2 outfit, except showing slightly more skin.

Emma is sweet in CS1. She appears to be perfect, but it's only in CS2 where her flaws and fears are presented. She gets really shafted in CS1, sadly. She should've been the main girl throughout both games given her actual role.

Whoops, that latter half was meant for

Okay? They became part of the same household at an early age. They didn't act on it until 5 years later once they realized that they actually loved each other and in flashbacks, Joshua realized it much much sooner than Estelle. I don't see the point you're trying to make. You're focusing on what could have happened and not what actually happened.

I was gonna say that this ain't the 1700's and that excuse won't fly anymore but then I remembered this series still has nobles so I guess keeping it in the family is still kosher.

I dunno who this is but I like her already.

You'll meet her in CS2.

...

No user I mean kids who are basically teenagers who are then expected to live together as brother and sister often have trouble doing that because their biological instincts are telling them that's a girl or guy you can fug, and without the social effect of being with someone since early childhood the only thing stopping you is a societal taboo that isn't even present in Japan, really.

Oh i'd agree about Emma, she's probably be my favourite if it wasn't for Sara, love her as a character but much like Gaius she gets criminally ignored and doesn't get as much personality/development relative to others
doesn't mean the little that's there isn't more than enough reason to love her

Why are Falcom loli's the only loli's I like ?

I really liked Emma when I first played as well. I saw her as kind of like the mother of the group, especially with how she took care of Fie. I was a bit annoyed because she didn't get much exposure and development until the second game.

I get the reasoning behind it, but it still made me feel she got shafted.

She's still one of my favourites, though.

Incest is absolutely a societal taboo in Japan, what are you fucking talking about?

Adopted siblings you dumbass. This isn't about actual incest. Both of your examples from Kiseki concern adopted siblings.

Adopted sibling incest is still taboo in Japan. Life isn't like one of your animes.

Not nearly as much as here. In fact, wealthy families have been known to adopt children specifically for it, which his where some of this shit comes from in the first place. You are clearly talking out of your ass.

Just finished SC. Pretty gud, somehow Loewe glitched on me and never used any crafts or arts outside of his initial s-break.
So Ao and Zero come next, or The 3rd first?

3rd first. 3rd is the bridge from Sky to Crossbell and Cold Steel.

Definitely 3rd first.

Thanks.
Ao and Zero's translations aren't even complete, are they?
also another contender for god tier final boss music from falcom.

Zero has a fairly decent draft translation available. I managed to play it and understand everything just fine.

Ao's machine translation is almost unreadable.

Zero is fully translated, but it's pretty rough. It's pretty coherent from start to finish (even the most basic NPCs), but sometimes the translation is extremely literal and reads badly. That said, I was able to glean enjoyment from it. People are working on making it not be so shit. Ao is about 55% done, but there is a patch out now with the critical path mostly translated, but basically every optional thing and non critical NPC is machine translated and therefore unintelligible.

I see, thank you.
One last thing you've probably seen me ask this before but the last time I did I never even came back to the thread because by the time my internet came back it was gone, how are the Ysu and SC animus? I managed to watch a clip of a fight between Joshua and Loewe and the animation and music seems nice, and it seems they even changed up the story. Servicable animus or pass?

The OVA for SC is shit and really, really weird. There's some good music and stuff, but it's a bad adaptation and mostly very strange. That's what happens when you try to condense an 80 hour anime into an hour and 30 minutes and still make time for a hot springs scene.

I know nothing about the Ys one.

I've lived there for 15 years and this whole anime incest has always been an embarrassing trope there. In fact, a lot of character tropes (tsundere and the like) are just comedy for them. Maybe you should actually go to japan and not just view them through your animes and whatever weeaboo news site you go to.

You have no argument so you keep repeating the same dumb stuff. If it as taboo as you say it is, Kiseki would be actively looked down on for having it in Japland and it wouldn't have gotten as far as it has.

Again, you expose your ignorance of the japs. They aren't as offended as easily as the west when it comes to this shit. They can actually differentiate real life from entertainment.

Could someone make a torrent of the japanese voice files and dummy files? Or at least upload them somwhere else? Mega has a stupid download limit per IP.

...

Is the Abyss worth going through? I just dipped my toes in and it looked like the same thing over and over.

Yes. You get a Zemurian ore (essentially an ultimate weapon ticket) for each boss you beat (but you have to beat them successively). Also at the nightmare arena ticket as well and, most importantly, Star Door 15. You don't want to miss Star Door 15.

when
and
will

You post:
Which, yes they do, but we're talking about fiction. Then you go and say:
Which is what I've been fucking telling you this whole fucking time you illiterate retard. It doesn't fucking matter if Estelle and Joshua or Elise and Rean get together because it's all fake.

If things confuse you, I suggest you use the tree view to follow conversations properly because this branch of the conversation isn't about that. I already dropped the subject about Elise wanting to be Reaned here

The conversation shifted to user thinking Japan doesn't think incest (blood related or not) is taboo irl (see ) user clearly didn't know what he was talking about so let's just drop the subject altogether. This thread doesn't need this drama.

Falcom please for the love of the gods don't blueball us and not make her apart of the Reanbowl!

I think he's the obnoxious user who always talk about how he lives in Japan in every thread and responds to every XSeed topic with "just play in Japanese." He's an idiot and he shits up these threads.

He does NOT live in Japan though. This is how much of an autist he is.

Question about the 3rd, is there turbo mode yet or not?

I think all the Sky games have had turbo back-ported. On Steam at least. No idea about GoG.

Special activities op New Class VII include patrolling the area (to gather intelligence on the Society and other causes of unrest) and support tasks (request from local authorities and citizens).

Orders from the government are resolved by Rean as the Ashen Chevalier, not as Instructor, and will carry out these orders without bringing along his students. Former partners will help him instead.

Spare time in Leeves allows players to walk around town, meet up and help citizens and students, and bond with their favourite characters.

I see, thanks.
Can I ask something about Cold Steel?
How does it differ from Sky, gameplay and story wise?
Gameplay wise, does it waste your time more? I fear because it's now fully 3D, and because it has voice acting it's now going to take great efforts to go full kojima with the cutscenes and dialogs, and ever since Ys Seven I kind of feel the bosses in ys games went down the shitter, I want to know if the same applies for Coldsteel.
As for storywise, is it more youngesters go on an adventure and you get to explore this kingdom/empire or muh magical highschool drama?

Dynamic IP, you retard. And the keyword is "lived" and it was the first time I've posted about that here. I'm sorry I burst the fragile model of Japan in your head with real life experience.

...

???

CS1 feels more railroaded. Each in game month you go to a new location in the eastern half of the empire and get to explore (relatively small-ish areas except for one or two) and do quests (side and main) there. When you finish with the main quests in that area, you can't go back there for the rest of the game.

CS1 focuses on the characters and their relationships, hangups and development, while the overarching political plot boils in the background. They interact with the background plot semi-frequently, but it isn't the focus until the end/Cold Steel 2 when all overarching plot threads (three of them. Rean, the main character, has a personal overarching thread. Class 7's thread, which intertwines with Rean's at the beginning of CS1, and the Erebonian Civil War thread, which is in the background for most of CS1 and brought to the forefront in CS2), become firmly intertwined.

It's the same structure as FC (New chapter, go to new town, do quests there, something major happens. Next chapter, go to new town, do quests there, something major happens etc). It's called out storywise as being close to Junior Bracer training because your teacher is an A-class Empire Bracer.

The biggest difference is that in between field trips you get quests to do around campus/the small town, and there's a dungeon you have to play through and get further and further in each time.

As I recall, CS has less dialogue than FC and Zero, despite the voice acting.

Best girl Fie with worst little girl Millium.

Fie is shit. Millium is best girl.

Her face should just be stuck like that for the whole game.

How? That sounds like the most intelligent thing to do given how bad localizations are.

At least the people who say they understand Japanese can just play it in Japanese on Steam.

Not sure what a choice of store has to do with anything, considering you can just as easily pick it up from any other retailer.

Importing cost a lot though. Also for people don't own a PS4 that's the only way. The last thing I imported a few month ago ended up getting taxed by my country's customs. That made +41 euros added price from the taxes which is pretty much 80% of the price of the digital copy on PC/PS4 just from the taxes.

You must be unlucky. With all the millions of parcels entering Europe from Asia every day getting hit by customs is like being hit by a neonazi in a car. But it sucks when it happens.

Depends of countries. I've imported about 10-15 anime figs in the past years and 10 of them got hit by customs. My government is very very greedy for money.

This is only going to get worse as automation becomes a thing.

Man I wish normalfags could distinguish reality from fiction. But no I play Japanese games so that means I want to rape your stupid kid. Totally.

amiami.com/top/detail/detail?gcode=GAME-0017811
Yeh basically 6000 yens + 3000 more yens for shipping fees likely. That's 70 euros already. With 80% chances of being taxed for around 40 euros, that makes the game 110 euros to import.

It was Laura day.

Hey anons. what's the best settings (display, sound, etc.) to use for Ys 1? I got it off GOG and its my first time playing a Ys game. (I also have Oath in Felagna if that's better to start off with)

Also are the controls just z, x, enter and the arrow keys or am I missing something?

And also the game mode for a new one, should I go with Chronicles or Complete?

If only the customs didn't fuck me over with taxes…

Taxes themselves aren't bad. I live in one of the best countries because of them. Basically Liberl.

But if I lived in Bulgaria or Mexico I know all those taxes would disappear to corrupt politicians and criminals instead of fancy infrastructure.

To be fair, we have corruption problems even in the first world:

Probably not as bad as Europe admittedly though.

Green-haired girls are still the best though.

I bet Musse is either evil or had a horrible past which is why she's sexual towards Rean

I could totally see her as either a spy or having lost everything during either the attack on Crossbell or the north hence her wanting Rean's "everything".
Either that or she could be used as a active demonstration of the nations idolatry towards rean, hoping its the former though.

How do I emulate Ys Vanished Omen on PC 88?

Man Rean sure does suck. Pretty much every other party member I have is more useful than him.

Rean is literally one of the most broken party members in Cold Steel and easily the most broken protag character.

you clearly are playing him wrong

...

Rean has the second highest speed behind Fie and decent strength. You can delay enemies into oblivion with Arc Slash.

High speed + delay means he'll have multiple turns to do whatever before the enemy even gets to move again. Bump that up with quartz and he's effectively broken.

Late game when Machias gets Burst Drive, combine that with Rean's Arc Slash and see how amazing things can be. Open your eyes.

Anyone?

Realistically speaking, when can we expect western release of CS3?

In 2 years on PS4. 5 years on PC.

1-2 years if XSeed has started talks with Falcom about localizing it.

But since we have no word, I assume 3 years or more.

Fucking hell, XSeed should already be jumping on that shit and working with Falcom while the game is being developed/close to the end of development.

Oh hell no. No localization company should be allowed to be in contact with a developer about a game the developer is still making. The last thing we need is preemptive censorship.

There goes any hope of being able to play it.

NIS Europe had an interview with Kondo filled with no substance responses by the meme mascots and showing a lack of understanding of the Ys series.

Any news of how bad NISA's (((LOCALIZATION))) of Ys VIII is?

This felt like a weird interview. I'm guessing they mispelt Ys 8 as Ys 7, though Oath and Origin still had jump. I think Arks too, but haven't played it yet.

So much for pic related

Which characters names did they change compared to others games? I think I heard they misnamed some characters from Seven and Cecelta, but not sure which ones.

I really wish I could get into Cold Steel, especially with the kind of intricate narrative anons are explaining it has, but CS1 had far too long of an introduction and world-building with next to nothing of plot whatsoever which is terrible writing, and no, character interaction and information being given about the characters, their families and the world does not equate to proper narrative progression or character development and then there was the YOU GOTTA LOSE fight with Best Cherry Cake teacher - a fight I legitimately planned for after the first time and took my time hitting and chipping her down until I WON

I WON
I WON THAT FIGHT FALCOM
THEN IT TURNS OUT SHE'S IMMORTAL CAUSE THE HEALTHBAR WON'T JUST VANISH AFTER I'VE EMPTIED IT AND THE FIGHT WON'T END
THEN THE STUPID DOG HAS THE AUDACITY TO SAY SOME SMACK TALK ABOUT "Psh, kids/men"
NO YOU STUPID BROAD I WON I SPANKED YOUR PLUMP ASS UNTIL YOU SHARTED AND THE DEVS CHEATED

Three things I cannot forgive:
1. Health Regenerating Bosses (literally just wasting your time by undoing your work)
2. RNG Combat
3. CHEATING DEVELOPERS (ala Supposed-To-Lose fights that don't immediately end but instead gives you the illusion you can win)
I can deal with STL fights if it's Tales of Graces F style where you go into the fight, get about three seconds of hit-time, and then get wrecked. That's fine, but don't let me waste almost AN HOUR making sure I win only to show I've wasted my time. It's Dot Hack Quarantine all over again with Cubia being a massive bossfight only for the cutscene after it to show that the entire fight was pointless cause you could never win anyway.

That's why I was hoping for Tokyo Xanadu to be my choice, but Aksys raped it. I wanted to get Lacrimosa but then

Alright you almost had a point until this flat out lie

CS1 is about the characters first and foremost, as well as worldbuilding, and each new chapter focuses on one or two of them. The overarching plot which is happening in the background rears its head every now and then but never comes at the forefront until the end of the game.

It's structured similarly to the first Sky game, where each chapter you go to a new town, then get introduced to a character, learn more about them, deal with the mini-happening in that area, and then move on. The overarching (and underlying) plots don't reveal themselves until closer to the end, or at the end itself.

Just like Sky, Cold Steel is kind of like a huge prologue to the second game, where the overarching plot comes to the forefront, the introductions and hangups of characters are already done with, cleared away so that the game can focus on what's happening in the Empire right now.

I can understand not liking that structure, though. When I first played Sky I was turned off by the amount of dialogue, text and talking about the world. I just wanted the plot to start so I could go on an adventure to save it.

Right, but this isn't a unique structure or style, though. This is bad writing. I get people liking it since we all have different tastes but maybe since I'm a guy who's been writing for years (and almost done with the novel he's been working on for years, thank Christ) I cannot remotely tolerate it.
Objectively speaking this is bad writing. This is the equivalent to reading a novel where the first ten to fifteen chapters is nothing but world-building and character interaction. World-building is not plot progression. Character interaction is not Character development, and while the characters do eventually develop (after the writer took so excruciatingly long to firmly establish them) it's still not plot progression.

There is no reason why the character establishment and world-building could not occur simultaneously with the plot. That's usually how stories work - characters grow and change along with the narrative's momentum and the setting is explained in increments where it serves the plot and/or where the plot is moving.

The plot is the heart of the story, the reason it exists. The plot is the story. You can have a character-driven/focused plot (where the story mainly focuses on the characters themselves as they journey rather than focusing more on the world events they are influenced by/influence themselves) but even then the characters are not themselves the plot. This is the reason why CS1 is often regarded as a SOL story because it really doesn't have any point to existing aside from being a slice of life drama with vague hints of something far more interesting at play - which only really arises at the end stretch. Of course the truth is that you're right, the real reason CS1 exists is to be the terribly paced and painful slog of a prologue for the next two games.

It does not matter if your characters have hidden depth or if your world-building is unique (it rarely is, though, and watching characters blather on about the intricate workings of a world that doesn't exist is about as fun as reading an author doing it in his poorly paced novel). Everything must be in service to the plot. No "naturalistic" superfluous dialogue, no long stretches of narration regarding things that have no bearing on the immediate events, no events which do not lead to any rising action or overall focus of the narrative, and any events which do lead somewhere cannot be such a slog as to take up pages at a time before anything actually happens. Even dialogue that might seem pointless must have a point, even if it's just character development or establishment, and even then don't waste anyone's time with it. Do it right.

Character development works after we care about the characters, which we care about in relation to their aims, which are all supposed to tie into the plot. This isn't K-ON garbage! It's supposed to be an actual story. Yes, you can have down time and funny moments and slow moments of character interaction and development but they better be in service to the overall plot - and Cold Steel actually does do this in retrospect…
…but the plot doesn't actually begin until near the end of the game.

TL;DR It is absolutely insufferable and inexcusable that any story, be it a novel or a JRPG, would demand that you sit through almost 40-50hrs of world-building and character development before any of it is given a point.

Just to be clear, blathering on and on with world-building that doesn't come into play until several hours later is not foreshadowing. It's wasting time.
You can immediately tell the difference between foreshadowing and pointlessness with common sense.

All that being said, I'm glad some people are able to enjoy the games. It's got good cakes, at least, and Rean was interesting once he got interesting.

Can I jump straight into Cold Steel without playing the other Trails games? I heard I'll understand 1 and 2 fine but not 3.

You can but the game is more interesting fro ma world building perspective and you will be more satisfied if you've got the background from at least the Sky games. There are some reveals and characters that show up that won't have the same or any impact if you don't. The plot is understandable if you haven't played Sky for the most part, but you
ll feel less grounded in the world.

It was Emma day!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you get more AP if you do beat her? Besides, she's a former A Rank Bracer and former Jeager You can't possibly think a group of untrained kids could take her even if you do control them.

She's impossible to beat the first time you fight her. And yes, it makes no sense for kids to be able to beat her. Trails is one of the few series that averts the whole "adults are useless, teens save the world" thing, and I've always appreciated it for that.

I get your gripes. I understand it could be a slog for some and not for others.

But this
isn't right.

There are three plotlines in CS. Rean's, Class 7's and the Empire's. Rean's thread intertwines with Class 7's so they're effectively the same (until the end of CS2). The Empire's plot starts from the very beginning of the game as well and is carrying on well through CS2 and CS3.

In the prologue where Rean arrives at Thors, you get introduced to the setup of what's happening/to come in the Empire's plot through the characters of Class 7 (most notably through the characters who are "extremists" on either side, Jusis and Machias) : the empire's instability, and conflict between the nobles/tradionalists and the commoners/reformists. This conflict is connected to and affect most of the characters in different ways. Some more than others. Rean and Laura's noble houses are neutral, but Jusis is part of the 4 Great Houses. Machias' father is a high-ranking man in the reformist faction and Erebonian government. Elliot's father is part of the imperial army. While Alisa isn't a noble by blood, the Reinford company is tied up in the civil conflict. Fie and Gaius are the least affected, with Fie just being tied to Jaeger groups (since they come into play) and Gaius trying to make sense of it all so he can tell people to fuck off from his homeland. Emma seemingly has no importance until the end/CS2 which means she was sadly shafted for the entirety of CS1.

All three plotlines are present at the beginning of the game. Class 7's thread interacts with the Empire's every chapter aside from the prologue. And as you play through the game, though most of the details remain behind the scenes (because both threads aren't directly intertwined), the Empire's thread escalates.

In Celdic you find out that Albarea Dukedom has imposed harsher taxes on the merchants, and using the provincial army to strongarm them into paying it. You're not sure why, but it's happening. In Bareahard you learn of the nobles' structure, and a little bit more of what's currently going on; the nobles are gathering resources and preparing for a civil war with Osborne and the reformists. In Nord you learn that there's a third faction, the Imperial Liberation Front who's working alongside the noble faction to destablize the country by attempting to start a war with Calvard. A plan that you foil.

All the while Class 7's story is continuing, the characters coming to terms with themselves, getting over their hangups, etc. They're not fully intertwined with the Empire's plot, but through frequent interactions with that they're learning more about what's going on. In Heimdallr, Class 7 is revealed to have been orchestrated by Olivier in order for formulate a neutral class, where nobility didn't matter; another faction, inspired by the people and events he witnessed in Liberl a few years prior (Trails in the Sky FC and SC).

However, also in Heimdallr the Empire's thread decides that it can't be boiling in the background any longer and things escalate drastically from there, with the kidnapping of Princess Alfin. The next chapter sees you stopping the ILF again at Garrelia Fortress who are trying to fire the Railway Guns at Crossbell city and kill Osborne there. The next chapter is really weirdly placed because it feels like a dip in excitement levels after Garellia, and you find out about the Reinford company's involvement in the civil war. This could've come way earlier, but it does end with the "final" confrontation between Class 7 and the ILF. Things seem to end there for the Empire's plot, allowing for the final chapter to be solely for Class 7/Rean's threads.

But then the end of the final chapter happens. This is not when the plot STARTS, but where the plotlines can no longer be kept separate with just occasionally interacting, so they are converged with the forceful invasion of Trista, and the explosion of the civil war.

tl;dr the Empire's plot (aka the "main" plot that carries on through all three games) is the rumbling civil conflict that is present throughout the game. The characters are aware, interact with and are affected by what's happening. And that conflict finally builds up pressure and explodes at the end.

Seriously, she got a shitton of art. Must be the tits.

No she's impossible.

Except I did and the devs cheated so shut your hole.
I'm sorry I'm just still and always will be angry that I lost an hour of my life to a fight that never should have even been.
As I said, just make it instant failure or keep it a cutscene.

I stick to what I said but fair enough. I can see where you're coming from, mate, and I appreciate it.

Have some CS3 cake.

Good day.

Time is ticking down
The asset must be revealed
Rean, please notice me

Damn, well ain't that a kick in the dick.

...

I'm pretty sure she's ready for Rean by this time. He's out of school and not under her tutelage anymore.

She's almost thirty.

See that loli in the distance?

She was put for sale in a cultist run brothel.

Why anyone still plays Western games is beyond me.

Because not all of them is ass.

Today is worst-girl art day. I won't be saving any of them.

...

Stop this. You're making me want to waifu her on my first run…. whenever I get to play it.

Who is the worst girl?

Either Millium or Alisa.

Alisa.

I getcha. I actually liked her during CS1 and CS2. I'd probably like her more if she wasn't forced. And she pales in comparison to pretty much every other girl, except Millium.

This is really my problem too. Objectively, I don't hate her. She even has a few good points. But she makes the worst first impression, is the least interesting of the girls and is shoved down your throat to such a degree that it turned me fully against her. I was less annoyed with her in CS2 which didn't force her as much.

so does cold steel III not have carry over bonuses because it seems like it would be a bit complicated with it changing consoles?

Probably.

I doubt it'll have carryover bonuses which makes me a bit sad. Maybe they'll have something that asks you who you picked in the end.

There was one moment in CS2 that made me absolutely livid, though. It's when Rean and Alisa realize they've met before in Ymir when they were much younger, and Rean had cheered her up.

Come on, you're forcing her on Rean so much, you have to go and make up that they met before too?

Like they were destined to be together or something. Fuck that.

Ao had something like this. Though there was save carryover if you imported a save file that had completed multiple final bond events in Zero it asks you which one you want to be canon to the story, so there's precedent. Also yeah, that whole "we met in Ymir when we were kids" was so retarded. If you don't do that bonding event, though, it never comes up/

I think this was my second playthrough so I was doing all the bonding events.

Emma's bonding event in Bareahard where she allows Rean to sleep on her lap was lovely

Someone help me out on Brandish. I'm trying to 100% the maps but I'm starting to want to kill myself for constantly jumping on pits to try to find all these stupid """islands""".and these rooms behind unopenable gates. Does anyone have the full map for these floors?

Script sizes of the games and how they stack up to certain VNs

Arianrhod's S-Craft cut in for CS3.

...

Lechter: Good luck. Gilliath is one tough customer.

No shit, taking a bullet to the heart and coming back right as rain to just take over Crossbell and North Ambria. His dick is too big

Who is objectively the best girl to pick?

Emma or Laura. You'd have to be in it for the long haul for Fie or Sara with no final payoff until CS3 hopefully. Towa is a fine choice as well. Alisa is basic bitch tier.

Some copies of CS3 broke street date, so spoilers might be coming soon.

Go with who you like most. If like twintailed tsunderes then go for Alisa. We won't judge you, much.

I like Emma and Laura for various reasons. Sara is also fantastic. Fie teeters on the edge of platonic/sisterly and romantic. Towa feels the same way as well. Millium is full "you're my little sister", rather than anything romantic.

CS3 might introduce Claire and Altina as options too, perhaps alongside new characters like Musse, Juna. I want Aurelia, personally.

Yeah, I remembered when I first played Sky FC and I absolutely loathed the long, drawn out introductions to the towns, the characters, the NPCs who all seemed to have too much to say. Where the real plot was just fed to you in small chunks of real plot as some reward for sitting through hours of exposition, worldbuilding and dialogue. I dropped the game out of boredom at the time.

But when I revisited the game after playing some other RPGs which had garbage worldbuilding and did not even try to establish the world you're in, I found myself really appreciating the slow parts of the Trails games since it added a lot more dramatical impact when shit got real. CS1/2 for example would not have been nearly as memorable if you did not spend a considerable amount of time getting to know Trista, the School, the Empire beforehand. If the game was shorter then the twists at the end would feel hollow and shallow.

Good job NISA one day before the fucking fact, I'm still expecting a shoddy port
dualshockers.com/ys-viii-ps-delay/

Prepare for your PC to catch fire when it does come out.

But a PC isn't a PS3

Wasn't a same-day pc version the entire reason why they won the contract over xseed? Well that was a great decision I hope NISA burns.

I hope Falcom learns their lesson.

I'm pretty sure that was just speculation. Regardless, hopefully this shows that they can't be trusted. Last-minute announcement, too. You can tell they were considering they'd release their broken-ass port as-is.

Anyone got a download link for Zero no Kiseki PC?

Less than 20 hours before release. And Zwei still doesn't have a release date. I wish it was possible to learn Japanese.

...

There's still 10 days before summer ends….but I think it's probably too close without announcing it. Then again, it is XSeed. It's not like it will be marketed.

Oh but gee wiz. Thanks based NISA for adding dual audio, it sure makes it all worth it!

Just use the maps for the original, they're 99% exactly the same. This is the site I used to 100% the main game;
www2.oninet.ne.jp/t_sera/br1/br1map/0mapz.html

Someone probably realized that people can return games on Steam. In before abysmal sales mean no more PC ports.

I just got into Ys and the other Nihon Falcom games recently
So I ask, if/when NISA does a shit job on the localisation/translation for Ys 8, is some kind of fan re-translation mod a realistic possibility.

I put that Reply by mistake.

It'd take a lot of autism to run that train, but it's doable.

they'd have to re-translate it and fix all the bugs nisa puts in. doesn't seem like there's a good possibility.

Depends on if there is Ys fans that are willing to do a complete overhaul of the game. They'd need some Ar tonelico fan tier autism to fix the incoming mess.
Seriously look up how much shit Ar tonelico fans had to fix in NISA's "localization" of Ar tonelico II; they had to completely re-translate the whole fucking game on top of fixing tons of game breaking glitches;
at2.metalbat.com/?p=537

I honestly don't have any faith in the western falcom fanbase based on how quickly they bent over for NISA.

This could turn out to be good or bad for us. Good as in this will piss off Falcom (even though they are still at fault for going with NISA in the first place) and maybe prevent them from localizing any of their games ever again. Bad as in it could mean that even if they do release it after (((improvements))) and it does poorly, we may not see anymore Falcom games get release overseas (though I hope that was a lie whoever said that).

Though this is mentioning that the PC version is the only one delayed. Are they still planning on releasing the PS4 and Vita versions tomorrow? if so, and they pull off a "make the PC version have the only "fixed" translation version", it's only going to add much needed fuel to the fire that is NISA's reputation.

Any person who says "If X doesn't make enough money, you won't be seeing Y series again" is just using fear mongering tactics to get sales because it's easy as fuck to instill the fear of a person's favorite series never coming over again.

Honestly I rather the games stay in japan if that means NISA will never get a chance at touching them. At least I can use the google translate mobile app to experience a more coherent localization than NISA's "work."

Did some posts disappear?

Whoops, never mind. They reappeared after I posted.

...

It's kinda neat that there's Soldat training for the new students.

Plus that picture shows you can have at least two people in the party in a Soldat battle.

Just finished Cold Steel 1 and holy shit, that is quite probably the worst RPG I've ever played in my life.

The only good part in this game was the soundtrack, not even sound in general, because some of the attacks/abilities sounds like farts when they hit. The soundtrack is amazing though, i give them that.

Also, the game doesn't have a ending, it just comes to a close in the middle of all the shit.
Next games that come on PC will be pirated, holy fucking shit i'm angry of wasting money on that piece of shit game, was even thinking about playing it again with the japanese voices but no, will uninstall and hide from my library on steam.
What a fucking disappointment.

I was thinking about trying trails in the sky but after this, i shudder only to think what type of horrid script they have on that.
Gonna keep on playing Ys because at least Ys have good gameplay.

Expect DENUVO everyone, better refund right now if you, for some stupid reason, pre-ordered this shit.
polite sage for double-posting.

Yeah I've said quite a lot about the story already, but I don't agree with you here
That's just Falcom's limitations. CS1 was their first real branching out into this kind of visual and graphical style, which is way further than even previous Ys titles. It's not a work of laziness as even with story problems it shows how much affection and attention was brought into the world, characters and visuals.

Probably why my buddy says Trails in the Sky, which also has a slow build, is vastly superior. Cold Steel was obvious made with a "Persona" style in mind, which Tokyo Xanadu just outright screams.

Speaking of "episode of the week" I've heard Tokyo Xanadu doesn't really have a proper plot or overarcing purpose. It's just Falcom's vidya "monster of the week" anime. Anyone can confirm this?

I dunno man, some of those animations are disgusting, like when crow throws the 50 mira coin to rean and he catches it as if he was picking a grocery bag, it doesn't make any sense, every time people is sitting anywhere their hands are on the most generic and still positions possibly, and they are on the same position whether there is a plate with food in front of them or a piece of paper or nothing.
every single animation in the game feel artificial to me, and that doesn't look like something a passionate group would do, but i think we can all blame VITA development for that, still don't make it any less shitty.

I'm not even touching Trails in the sky for some years now, cold steel 1 left a very bad taste in my mouth for me to waste my time with the series for a long while.

also, some of the characters hold their weapons as if they were J.I. JOE toys

Munk, what are you wearing? Ferris and Becky both look very good. Alan looks good as a Warrant Officer. Also the new students from Reeves.

Leonora and Stark.

Dammit Japan. This trap obsession is gay.

I don't have any clue of what you are talking about. All they had was some mild suspicion but nothing conclusive. Though please tell me what you thought about the high budget Concert part of the game.

I would say that the only person who was fully aware of the villain was Osborne and he just let Crow run around to do as he pleased.

If you couldn't tell from the cutscenes involving Osborne, he's not a normal man.

Claire and Millium knew that the person was working within Thors, that's why Millium was sent to join Class 7 in the first place. They just couldn't find out who exactly it was until the last moment.

In CS2, Osborne is revealed to have had plans that were hidden from Claire, Millium and even Lechter that involved his "death"/revival. Only Rufus, who is also revealed to be an Ironblood (the very first one that was kept hidden) seemed privy to them. So it's likely that Crow was just another pawn in his game..

I don't believe even Sara knew about the identity of the villain.

I can't wait for CS3 to see how things play out with all that happened at the end of CS2.

The whole post screams he didn't understand what the fuck the game was actually telling him. That and, again, we have another user who can't grasp the basics of talking to people or exploring. I have a feeling he just went from point a to point b constantly.

You say that like that matters to a foreignization company.

If video games are at all a significant part of your life, you'll learn it eventually you'll realize you never had a choice

Let's not pretend that the game has amazing NPC storylines either, user. All of the NPC's stories are forgettable trash. The problem with that user is that he expected a well written story out of a typical JRPG. JRPGs are the bottom of the barrel when it comes to storytelling. It's a cultural thing. He'd probably have better mileage out of fanfiction.net.

:^) Based NISA right guys? Notice how there hasn't been a peep from the shills now that it's localization is confirmed for being the worst one since Ys III's SNES localization?

Wish I could drag the shills out of hiding and force them to see how bad NISA fucked this up and tell them "this is what you wanted. Now you deal with it.", but they're probably happy with what's currently happening. I hope Falcom learns their lesson from this and not go with NISA ever again (maybe start doing the translations themselves).

That's what Kirsten gets for being a retard

thank god for piracy and mods

If there's one good thing about NISA fucking up Ys VIII, they probably aren't getting another Falcom game again for screwing with their EOY report.

Just finished the 3rd, and I really had fun. Made me really like Kevin, and it was a good sendoff for the trilogy though a bit sappy. I thought the difficulty dropped off near the end though, after actually challenging me in an enjoyable way early on (playing on Hard).

Now to try to fumble through the Crossbell games.

...

That 2nd pic Bleublanc no
Mint seems to be challenging Tita for the cute engineer spot, she looks like she's gotten younger though.

Wait. Did they seriously forgot the L in Lacrimosa in the PS4 status screen?

I don't think any of you guys know how a government or the military works, neither does the writer of this drivel.

If you have any suspicion of who the leader of a terrorist group is, and that terrorist is on your country, on your tax payed institute at that, you don't leave him open to go anywhere on his pleasure, nor leave the entirety of the job of keeping tabs on him to a 13yo girl, HE USED THE FUCKING TRAIN TO GET THERE! the train that the railway police have under their complete jurisdiction, how the fuck someone that is a suspect of not only kidnapping the royal princess, attacking a military fortress, tried to incite war against crossbell, took over the mine that is the blood of the entire industry of the country just get to use the fucking train that is more militarized than the fucking military school?
You have a suspicion, that guy is behind bars in seconds, if you want to take care of political upheavals, you put half you best men all watching over the damn nigga.
The villain is complete shit, there is no way around it.
If you think that is a good story and good, intelligent villain you need to start to read books, because this is complete shit.
You don't try to make a cunning villain that has everyone under their thumbs if you don't have know how of how does the leader of a revolutionary/terrorist/military group works, how their strategies are implemented, the logistics of how things need to be done and the counter-measures their enemies can use against them.
Hell, even when it finally dawns on you who the villain is, instead of keeping the tension until the last moment, the writer decided to go the kids show way and expose him before he even does anything, and it's revealed that everyone that mattered was already suspecting of him, the only one that can be forgiven on all that shit is millium because she is a goddamn 13yo that forget what her job was every 10 minutes.
There is no excuse to C story arc, the rest of the plots and stories that doesn't apply directly to him is not really that bad, but his story is complete bullshit.

You shouldn't judge the story to early. Every plot hole you pointed out actually gets resolved in CS2.

I am legitimately unsure if this is bait or actual retardation.

They (as in all bar Osborne) did not know C's identity, it was merely speculated that he was possibly at Thors.
Secondly, it's almost certain that C and the other terrorists were part of Osborne's plans as seen through their secondary use within the noble alliance. Why would Osborne fuck up his own plans ?

Where is this shown ? the RMP use the trains, yes, but they are not given, have the ability to, or reason(see above regarding Osborne) to conduct full scale searches of all passengers, especially after C is supposedly dead.

Also regarding Millium, its strongly implied her main, or at least split purpose is watching Rean in regards to Valimar via her comments on watching the old schoolhouse.

Kek at your opinions of how a government or military works btw
Go take a look at the UK and the rest of Europe, look at all the terror attacks and you'll notice a connection "was known to local police or on some watchlist" but yet they still happen. This can be seen as either due to incompetence of policy decisions (multiculturalism etc.), either way it shows that such things are not unrealistic and can indeed function the same way they do in CS.

You have a naive idealistic view of reality that you've projected onto a superficial understanding of CS,
"C's story arc" if theres really anything that can be called that doesn't even come into play until CS2.

Yes, i'm sure all the great many books you've read have given you all this masterful knowledge, indeed all games devs should be reading Hill tactics of the Mujahideen. Funnily enough through if you go up just a little in this thread you'd see the size of text in previous entries in the Trails series, that are comparable to a great many books, but reading certainly seems to difficult for you as issues you've address have already been dealt with in this thread

No, scrolling title.

First of all, CS is 1 part of a 3 part story. Most of the plot holes you have a problem with is resolved in CS2. The CS1 doesn't have an ending because the sequel takes place directly afterwards. While CS2 resolves most of the plot threads for itself and CS1, it also has a satisfying ending until more revelations come forth which gives it a bittersweet ending and paves the way for CS3

Trails in the Sky also has this; where the game ends on a cliffhanger because Sky 2 is a direct sequel (Sky 3 doesn't pick up from a cliffhanger, but acts as a bridge, plotwise, between the Sky series and the rest of the Trails series).

While Zero no Kiseki doesn't end in a cliffhanger, there are a lot of unresolved threads that call for a sequel. Naturally the sequel, Ao no Kiseki, picks up from those threads.

Now, back to Cold Steel.

Osborne is the only one who knew about C's identity. Osborne allowed him to run around freely, because he used C and the ILF as part of his plans.

Osborne is not a normal man.

If you're talking about the assassination, he could've easily just been a civilian going to see Osborne's speech. Before then, he uses in airship.

On top of this C is supposedly dead after the incident in the mines. Only Claire and Sharon figured out that he wasn't, but Claire is a bit too late. She only figures out who it is by the time the assassination is being carried out. She is the only one who figured it out and rushed to stop him.

He doesn't.

The ultimate villain of the Cold Steel series isn't Crow. It's Osborne. Crow is a red herring "villain" of the first game. He isn't much of a villain in in the second game, just a dog for Vita and by extension the noble alliance, so he could fulfill Vita's goals. Vita and Cayenne/the noble alliance are the villains of the 2nd game.

At the end of CS2 it's revealed that Osborne has been alive and manipulating both sides all along, WITHOUT Claire, Lechter or Millium even knowing what he was doing. And he was doing this through Rufus, the first Ironblood that Osborne ever took under his wing. And also the one he kept the most secret, possibly in preparation for these events.

It's also revealed that Rean's scar and subsequent power was most likely caused by Osborne. Something that was hinted at all throughout CS1, where anytime Rean's and Osborne's eyes met, Rean's scar would ache

You talk like a fanboy, so i'm sure no matter what i say you will keep yourself on that illusion that this game has somehow good writing, but let me answer you this once at least.

Except when millium can't get through with her arcus to warn people Sara just nonchalantly say that she had her own suspicions about C, not only that but when Claire sees him on top of the building she goes "so it was really you! why!?" meaning she also knew about him being a suspect.

That's what we call a cop-out, the writer know this doesn't make any fucking sense, so fixes it by a thanatos gambit, making it look like while everything looked completely fucked, everything was going according to plan, a lot of batman writers use the same thing a lot and people glooble it up, even though it just means the writer has written itself into a corner, happens a fucking lot in anime too.

When you go to Heindarll, the governor straight up asks claire to lend him a room to talk with class VII, she then goes to say that they have their HQ inside the terminal, they fiscalize the entire railroad lines, and make extensive use of it for their operations, inside the stations you always see them, never another type of military, they can stop a entire line just to let the super speed trains to go by if needed be, and their name i RAILROAD military police, their biggest jurisdiction is the railroad, the only way a military group would let a high-profile suspect roam free inside their own territory would be if that Osborne gambit is the real story, which goes back to you guys shouting "CS2 fixes everything!" again.

As i said before, Millium is the only one that can be forgiven given her backstory and demeanor, she is also the only one that actually tries to do something, even though it's too late at that point.

Part 1 of 2 because shit got too long for Holla Forums.

With the exception that there is a difference between a terrorist group and a terrorist leader, most leaders of those groups in the Europe are extremely deep underground or out of the country, if you try to jail every single guy you suspected of terrorism you wouldn't have space to hold everyone, that can't be said about leaders, at the same time you have these terrorist attacks going on in Europe, you have gigantic task forces in another countries searching for leaders, which most just end up dead, and i can assure you half of those were not even the supreme leaders, just generals, Jailing C would be a very humane way to deal with a terrorist leader suspect actually.

when it releases on PC i will pirate and then comment on that, just for you user ;^*

You don't even need to read a lot of book to see all those plotholes, and you guys can only defend it by going "they fix it in CS2!" which i will hold to your words and wait until the game releases on PC to see if this true or if you guys are just a bunch of fanboys butthurt that someone has the gall to point out flaws on your dear franchise.

They should! It's their job to make a good, realistic history given the setting in the end of the day, and that's called research. It always help the story, no matter how little they actually take from it.

I can fill up a entire storage room with pages and more pages or text containing a single story, that does't mean the content on that story is good or intelligent
Also, my gripe was with C history and character and all the mental gymnastics the writer had to go through to make it work.

That shit got too long, such a waste of time.
Feels like i'm talking with a feminist, fucking fanboys.

Wow, the story is even more stupid than i expected, well, at least now i know that i should expect absolutely nothing from it.

Let's hope at least the gameplay part is not dropped in the middle of the game, I really liked the entire buff debuff focus on the battles, until 80% of the monsters became immune to it and made the battles boring as hell.
Thanks for spoiling me user, the way other people were talking made me almost think the other 2 games would have a better plot, almost got dissapointed again.

In other news, started playing Memories of Celceta, only played a little of the first dungeon to see if everything was running smoothly and it seems it is.
Also funny how the game is FPS locked at 60FPS, don't see a lot of this in games, at least not that i know of.

Just completely ignore the fact I've raised issues with CS in this very thread.

Slight speculation from them that is largely undermined and hence not acted upon by C faking his own death, (why do you keep ignoring this point ?) if you want to claim that they where suspicious prior to this that is pure speculation on your part.

calling something a cop-out does not inherently make it one, no argument is made here merely assertions. Also not a Thantos Gambit, he's alive, and before you wanna scream cop-out again, resurrection is both precedented and foreshadowed, although if it's mishandled or without consequences in CS3 i will be pissed

Or if they thought he was dead ? Or had no reason to assume he'd be using the trains due to the terrorists use of airships ? Should the RMP have extensively searched every single person coming in to the capital by train ? That is completely unreasonable, would require extensive manpower and cost severely annoying the populace and delaying business, and again there would be little reason at best to do so.

Missed the point I was making about quality>quantity as a response to "read more", although I was rather obtuse and we agree so no bother.

What ? you haven't extrapolated upon this at all, you've complained about the execution and supposed plot-holes but not this. C's history and hence actual characterisation is only explained in CS2, very little about C at all is explained in CS1 besides being a terrorist pissed at Osborne (yes reasons are given but they're superficial at best).

Write walls of text an act by far the most emotional in this thread (examine the language and writing styles used by yourself and those replying) while ignoring elements that don't fit your narrative (i.e. that CS issues have been raised within this very thread, some by those you consider fanboys)

Also screeching that a very long story heavy game that, correct me if i'm wrong, was meant to be one game, has elements of it that require the "sequel" to fully understand is completely unreasonable is rather overzealous. If one wishes to judge it on its own then certainly it's a flaw (although I would not find it so big an issue as you do to knowing there is a sequel) but that is certainly, due to CS2's existence an inferior way to judge it due to the aforementioned.

It's also possible that Osbourne didn't die to begin with, because Crows sniper rifle was made in the Black Forge and it is revealed that Osbourne has assumed full control over it.

Good point. although I think his age in the promos for CS3 was the same inferring a lack of aging similar to Arianrhod

I've always wondered, I know it was brought up a number of threads ago but don't think it went anywhere.
Has there ever been more extrapolation of old tech/bullets. We know motors existed from sky so there should have been bullets (of the piercing variety) in terms of technological development.
It would certainly be interesting if the use of orbal bullets as a less lethal but still destructive force were agreed upon, perhaps under queen Alicia's peace agreement.
Probably just wishful thinking and there'll remain a split of toon violence in battle and plot bullets sadly.

Osborne's control of the black forge, inb4 army of lolis to accompany the soldats in CS3 reminiscent of little sisters

>Didn't reveal anything other than Osborne is alive and manipulating both sides (which trashes your "batman gambit/cop-out" theory)

You're welcome, user?

I bet you anything more are created, then resolved in CS3 in which more are created.

...

It's not that they make up the story as they go along. They have had the whole story planned for years now and there are a lot of references to things that happen later early on.

Everything up to the end of CS3 was planned I believe.
Probably parts of the Calvard arc too if Zin's comments are anything to go by.

...

If anything more is created in CS3, that's where the Calvard arc will come in. Hell, in one of the trailers, Osborne is declaring war on Calvard.

Fishing is more interactive now? Nice.

Elise is worst girl along with Alisa. Prove me wrong.

I can't.

I like her as a sister.

New bread time. Gonna add Ys VII as well as Ys VIII's fuckups to the OP. Anything else needed?

I also added the magnet link for the undub and pruned some unneeded stuff. Anyway

NEW BREAD
