This is a dumb simplification that I don't find productive to think about. I think in more specific terms, what exactly is fucked with society? What component is working good and which isn't? And by what criteria? I think we're relatively maximising our potential in some areas, while others could be better. It's true economy is intertwined with culture and they're hard to separate, but humans can't think in grand scale effectively. We're better when we break down the problems to smaller problems.

Wake up 7 AM, work out for an hour or so, shower and eat, work from 9 AM to 6 PM, dinner with family, hang out with kids and put them to bed, hang out with wife until 9 or 10 PM, then play vidya until 11 or 12 if I feel like it, then sleep.
I'll occasionally waste time here or watch something stupid instead, but sometimes, I don't even feel like playing vidya and I do it anyway, because I know that I'll have more fun if I do that then vegetate watching something retarded or getting pissed off here. I don't put a lot of time in, but I get 5 to 8 hours of vidya time a week and I'm happy with it.
