No. I don't play mmo shit.

I never played any MMOs, so I can't say I know the feeling. You made this thread because of the oneshot that appeared on Batoto today, didn't you?

...

it made me feel feelings user, i dont know what to tell you.

Yes

Fairies Story 3 was pretty fun, even though it had some serious bugs at launch.

PSO on the Dreamcast. Connected for one last game. All my friends where there for it. I have no friends

I'll feel sad when Guild Wars 1 finally shuts down, but I haven't played it in years and it's lived longer than it ever should have anyways.

Happened in demons souls like 3 times.

Now that is a feeling I can say I share.
polite sage for not adding to the discussion.

Yep, I was playing Runescape the day the Grand Exchange came out.

lel

Fuck you Richard Garriott.

Yeah, the cash shop gear was so broken that the devs killed the game rather than try to get the escalation in check, but it was also the last MMO on the market to not bend over backwards trying to pander to the cell phone game crowd. Shin Megami Tensei Imagine expected you to remember what enemy would reflect your attacks, autistically test for the equally autistic order to kill mobs to spawn the true boss, and to buckle down for multiple types of grind where each one could only be described as an affront to god. It was the last of its kind.

No. I don't MMOs.
Pic-related is worse IMO.

I was there until its dying breath

Sucks to be you guys

Condolences

Even when I lose everything, I will not give up.

Our artist has passed away, but he will be with us forever. Our game illustrator and art director since 1999, he suffered from leukemia and died at the age of 29.

...

Same here, but 2001. Just not officially.
Although it DID die for a bit.

...

unfortunately is bent over backwards to milk whales which is just as bad. The grind was awful and the demons being locked behind either the cash shop or in one case literally 4 months of constant grinding means that the game deserved to die.

wtf I love tennis now

what was the browser game in question?

Underage please kill yourself.

Aerian spotted. Of all the cash shop shit the JP server pulled, this wasn't one of them. Overpowered skills for demons? Sure. Overpowered gear for demons? Sure. Demons themselves? Never.

Again, Aerian spotted. In the real deal, I chased Ishtar's plugin item for FIVE FUCKING YEARS and didn't get it until a week before the server died. Such was life in Imagine.

yup so it was an awful game that deserved to die, just because you liked the IP it was a part of doesn't matter. "Man this restaurant's food was complete garbage but I really liked the sign out front, why did it have to go under"

I would like to say DFO seeing as it went down a slow painful death. Months without any updates besides avatar sales and no updates to content for a long while until the message was finally dropped that the servers were going down forever. And then Neople brought it back which kind of kills the whole mood of it going away in the first place. Except that i lost some of my favorite characters and avatars with it

Say what you will about ArenaNet, but they proved that there is absolutely zero reason besides corporate laziness that MMOs can't just be put on autorun with bots handling a lot of bug fixing and maintenance. I don't think Guild Wars 1 will ever go down.

I'm going to reinstall GW right now. Crazy how that game is still up.

Garriott was in Space, promoting the game, when it was shut down by NCSoft.

NCSoft lied about the resignation.

I can't think of any good PC games off the top of my head that didn't have some alternate means of connectivity after losing "official" support, and I stopped buying consoles right before online play went fully mainstream.

> N e v e r s a w h i m a g a i n

Okay, my normal sauce finding techniques have failed me. Could I get an artist name, I can find my way from there.

Similarly, if you really want to find the voice I'm sure somebody has it, never give up, man.

...

Truly, one of the saddest multiplayer game deaths.

As for MMORPGs i never got to play and it's too late now, a korean Keroro Gunso MMO. Too bad gooks and japs can't into archiving.

no, never
But ask around, i think we have some CoX lovers around

And those were some of the mild grinds

This does not even come close to describing the grind.

Club Penguin.

Nostalrius.

Oh god the feels.

OH THE FEEEEEEELS

I wish for the server to actually close forever and delete everything I have. I just want to end it all and never have to look back.

I was there for the end of Earth & Beyond. Was put down after about a year as EA had killed Westwood mid-development and the other devs they brought in were worthless. We hung around in the starting sector and talked shit until the servers went out.
I know it's cliche, but this game really did have potential. It was only 2/3rds of a game due to Westwood being murdered (levels 100-150 literally had no content) but it had that spark of something amazing that grabs you. Know how people get feels remembering Ashenvale in old WoW? It was like that. I think I'm justified in saying it had potential as it's one of the very few MMOs players cared about enough to build a server emulator for. Westwood deserved so much better.

Those last few matches were legendary. My last match was on slayer on Turf. Anyone else there for the final night?

You quit at the BFR expansion?

No, I played until the servers were shut down

I used to play this online Diablo rip off called Mythos, they took the servers down 3 years ago. Kinda sucked.

It has happened to a few games I used to play. English version of Rage of Bahamut, Monster Rancher Mobile, and most recently Fantasica Bloodlines (which didn't even last a year).

I admittedly only played Fantasica for the kemono characters, it's a shame it died before any good porn got produced

I'm lucky somebody had anything. Shit probably had like 20 players. Some autist made a "bukatsu shoujo battle archive society" channel, but he must of one and doned because there's almost no content. Descriptions like "never forget" and then he forgot everything. There's a BGM playlist with no videos.

I'll forever miss Megan. I was in the closed beta, and I'll never forget the fun of dicking around near Jaegerstadt, taking trade convoys into the asshole of the galaxy and back, running my ass off to escape Nathan in the asteroid belt, and just generally chilling.

Someone made OC of that very quickly

Not a particular game, but the death of the DS (and Wii, to a lesser degree) wifi capability.

I assume you checked NicoVideo, maybe that's where the channel you mentioned was I dunno. Maybe bug the autist to see if he got the voice but didn't upload it because he's a retard?

One Korean cash shop MMORPG that I put many months into got a shut down announcement while I was still playing it. It was rebooted like a year later but the new version sucked so bad I didn't bother with it.

In hindsight, the game wasn't good (it wasn't bad either, just plain). I pretty much only played it because the player character girls were so cute. I had a couple of cash shop costumes I bought with in-game money but none of those were put in the reboot.

If its a good game it will have alternative servers. If its bad no one will care.

I have no idea what that feels like user.

I actually really liked this game after they did all of the overrhauls. I played it almost non-stop with a friend and we just played nothing but late-game coop missions. I played an infantry heavy Greece, and my friend played Persia. It was total shit at launch though

I wish there were more RTS games where you could play coop missions and grow in strength.

Fuck you. I hope you die and go to hell and get raped by the devil's rusty pitchfork.

Granted, it drowned in its own shit after years of being suckled to unconsciousness by EA.

Wrong. How many WoW private servers are out there?

Forgot image.

People still actively play Quake 3 after 18 years. But since we know everything must come to an end eventually it stands to reason even these games will fall to time. Even if it takes over a hundred years before some divine intervention kills it.

What do you think the last Quake 3 match will be like?

...

>it never was

Nothing of value, matey, nothing of value.

It used to be a fun game at first, but it turned extremely pay to win

I always felt like Tribes 2 introduced too much deployable and vehicle wankery and it detracted from the core of going fast. On the other hand, it didn't require mods just for basic loadout selection.

Came to post this.
Sasuga.

...

Manually selecting loadouts in T1 was awful. Everything changed once I got that one that autoselected everything and made you do a 180 turn.
Personally, I really like the vehicles. Just not every match. I don't remember anymore what were default deployables in Tribes 1 after playing Tribes 2 for so long.

so, you're saying it was shit?

No, I don't play MP shit.

...

Reminder that all games connected to central servers are on life support.
The day the company decides to shut it down is the day when, unless somebody cracks it, that game is gone. Forever. No one can ever play it again.
Overwatch is a great example of this. People are already seeing the signs that it's dying. Soon Blizzard will see it as a liability and shut the servers down. They'll probably announce Overwatch 2 before they do this.
What's the most important part of any game? Being able to fucking play it.

I unironically think that they'll pull the plug on WoW in the next five years. It's bleeding subscribers, and they haven't really announced a new expac at blizzcon this year. Shit, they haven't announced jack shit at Blizzcon this year. Hopefully Overwatch goes under sooner rather than later.

Valkyrie Sky

It was fun playing with you guys.

People are still playing this in case you wern't aware. 83 people as of posting but still.

Cash-whore earrings, thankfully with the free market you can get someone to crystallize demons for you (for a price.)
One of the expertise locks that was end-level content.
You can cut that number down significantly if you can beat him scrub :^)
I'll admit, they should have done that better considering the length of that dungeon.
I thought that was the Boundless Domain and the spring of life?
The one real grind was money, and that's because of the inflation due to events (Nightmare Ride Show, the melon beach.)
At least they adjusted Cathedral before the shut down period.
The reunion system needed a revamp or some sort of extra system as a reward when you actually max out a demon completely.

Just small servers for a couple games I played. It was sad, but I never expected much for them. Even if some of them ran for a couple years.
For something >200 people used, just Nintendo DS/Wii getting shut down. (It brought dozens of popular games offline at once, so I'd say that counts.) It was so fun and sad playing some old games online one last time. Not just with Holla Forums, but with anyone going online to enjoy the final moments. I skipped studying for finals that semester over this. It was worth it.
At least people made private servers to keep the games alive.

i was sad when i decided to quit playing this, best times ive ever had in a game. so many feels

SMT: Imagine

...

Isn't that every mmo ever

/thread

I've heard it got significantly worse over time. Isn't that a fate worse than the game being shut down completely? Because ultimately it's not the game you bought all those years back anymore.

...

I was dumb enough to make a Jenquai Explorer, ended up quitting before everything shut down. Did that class ever get better?

Enough times, maybe not always for the moment it shut down, but seeing the game die off over a period of months to the point where you just want it to end so the pain will be over quicker.

Some small games that nobody knew, private servers for popular MMOs, servers for TFC and other FPSes. The worst shit is being a nostalgiafag about it ten years later but hey I guess that makes me a faggot.

Metroid Prime: Hunters when Nintendo disabled online for it. Was a truly sad day. I hope Metroid Prime 4 being on the Switch will boast a multiplayer mode that's similar in quality.

Play better fucking games, OP.

came to post this

fuck you retard.
He was in quarantine after being in space to advertise this game as they published "his" letter of resignation.
He had fuck all to do with the games closure then sued NCSoft for millions

it's ridiculous how automated it is, they fix crashed, bugs and stuff and it all runs smoothly
They said they'll keep it open as long as people play it.
and the servers are cheap as fuck to maintain too apparently

Yeah, servers that someone bought 5 years' worth of time for because it cost $100 on sale. It's got maybe 15 people playing at any given time, 14 of which are megaautists from brazil who can't afford anything and think it's the best game ever, and the 15th is one guy that plays it for 5 minutes, gets bored, and never picks it back up.

Because that's all Ricochet is. Fun for a couple maps then boring. Could have had some more potential I guess. I'm just salty because there are other, better goldsrc mods that have been dead for over a decade, and even default half life only has people playing shitty ozmod servers anymore.

22 years

You know that is getting a revival by the guys that brought back some other Battlefield games? Look up Revive Battlefield Heroes.

A pack of anti-Trump fucks is what they are. I'll never install 2142 again. The fun I had with it lies buried in the past.

I wish. The games always end up as zombified versions of themselves.

Not like you have to pay them anything to play it. They might be politically retarded but that doesn't really affect how good 2142 is.

Wait really? That sucks. Did they go out of their way to say that or did something trigger them into being cunts?

Yeah I suppose that is true.

Hello darkness my old friend

I've come to grieve with you again

What an asshole. It's a shame what happened to white people. Maybe he's A crypto kike though, a lot of "white" people that act this strange are almost always some sort of yid.

I was about to post this

Because a vision softly creeping

Left its seeds while I was playing

...

I wish I could remember the name. It was actually one of those facebook games, but it was a really, really well done strategy RPG. It had an actual plot, tons of unlockable characters, great art style. Then one day I opened it up to get a message from the devs saying they were taking it down by the end of the week.

And what a game it was

This died so that we could be given TORtanic.

I miss Imagine too. It's sad that most people never got to experience the best MegaTen in its prime, and even sadder that Atlus is currently run by hacks who are trying their damn best to remove it from history.

Well, now that you mention it, I found it strange that Satan didn't have nipples while some other demons did.

Yep, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars

Though there was a fair share of moneygrabbing bullshit, the underlying game was pretty good: Completely distinct civs and having to set drop-offs for resources. It was the perfect merger of the AoE games: time period of 1, gameplay of 2 and smoothness, pathfinding, engine of 3.
MS is sitting on a game they could re-package with traditional online modes and a scenario editor that I'd buy in a heartbeat but they're too busy rerereleasing AoE I & II and figuring how to fuck up AoEIV

It wasn't so much that. The JP server was never region locked to begin with. They did IP restrictions however when some of the players accounts got hacked to high hell. After they implemented some new systems to protect players, they lifted the restriction. I really think it has to do with accounts getting hijacked in those net cafes.

Right now the PS in development is working on AI. Basic quest function works, talking is almost complete.

Thanks Sony

I honestly miss it, it was a fun game to play when i had nothing to do back then.

HI, BILLY MAYS HERE FOR MODDING, A SIMPLE SOLUTION TO ENSURE YOUR GAMES LAST FOREVER, GUARANTEED.
ARE THE SERVERS DOWN? NO NEED TO FROWN! OUR UNPATENTED FORMULA CAN REVIVE EVEN THE MOST DEAD MMOS FROM UP TO 20 YEARS AGO, THE FAST AND EASY WAY.

I will never again have new and amazing Billy Mays YTPs, or Billy Mays' amazing new products, and that's terrible.

mfw

Tell that to SWGemu.
jtl when

>tfw manatap specced shadowknight that spent a shit ton of CMs on the fucking skeleton bird that dies in a single AoE
That game was fucked for a lot of reasons

this has happened to me a lot

There's a community working to make this game playable again. Project Penelope iirc?

Oh, I see. My mistake then. Thanks for helping preserve the game's history. It's kind of endangered thanks to poor localization, cultural barrier, various misunderstandings, and Atlus themselves attempting to completely bury it.

Good luck to everyone with that. I won't have my hopes too high up, but I'll keep it on my radar.

I understood that reference. Still one of my favourite YTPs out there.
R.I.P., Billy Mays.

We'll have something to show when the basics are down, but after that it's slowly piecing the more advanced stuff afterwards.

Only because you're a necrophiliac and probably a furry.

I had some good fucking times in that beta. It's an utter shame what happened to it. I went back after release and the game was unrecognizable. I wasn't at all surprised when it shut down, but I was sad - there was genuine potential there in Mark Kern's vision (aside from the esports bullshit), and it all got flushed away.

Still amazes me how badly Gumi fucked everything up so badly then shut it down.

One of the few greats that was around.

Amazing community, no social media garbage everywhere. Insane amount of skill variety and customization.

In the meantime you also had WoW vanilla and TBC and the first year of wrath that were social media and retard free.

People are still playing it and online. It's rather sad that GW 1 was a lot better than GW 2. GW 2 isn't anything close to what GW 1 was which makes me quite sad.

not in our lifetime user

I actually gave up on it because I would have to recover my account and they've shifted all customer support to a GW2 style service and merged GW1 accounts into GW2 accounts. A bit of nostalgia for a dying game isn't worth the support hassle I'd be having to go through at this point.

dude look at his hair and face, of course he is

...

What a cozy game. There are times I enjoy the fact I am an oldfag who got to enjoy vidya from it's conception. It's very few though since that means you are old enough to see yids and commie scum ruin everything you enjoy.
