What would be the objective best video game of all time? To someone who likes RPGs it would be completely different than to someone who likes FPS games for example.
We can have lists or charts of some objectively good games in certain genres or platforms but making a "best of the best" list is impossible and a waste of time, since no one will agree with it anyway.

The issue is that gaming journalism has lost all heart and soul. Nowadays it's all about the advertising money that publishers pay which in turn is basically bribing. Remember that shit with Kane and Lynch and Gamespot? That's exactly what happens all the time.
None of them actually like games, people have lost all love for games and it's all bias and bribing.

Because you look at something like Xenonauts(it's the closest thing I can think of that isn't going to be immediately disqualified because MUH GRAFX) and it's clear how easily some idiot will find it too overwhelming. What? I choose where to place my bases? I can build vehicles? I have funds and need to pick my base layout? I need to scramble aircraft and actually control them? I have more than 6 people to control and I can have different loadouts for them? I need to take notice of line of sight and time of day? I need to use smoke grenades and shields to not get my ass raped?
Instead of what should be the standard of going "holy damn this game is pretty deep and complex and challenging" people would much rather play an insultingly easy game with flashy graphics and high budget animations that overstay their welcome.
