Holy shit, just looked it up, I didn't realize that the Canadian dollar was worth that much more than a US dollar.

Still, I don't think it's that big of a deal which, since 10k USD ≈ 13k CAD and thats not a huge difference in the big scheme of things, but if you want a tangible number we'll say exactly 10k USD since life isn't fair.

The point of this isn't the exact amount of money, its more that I want to see how creative Holla Forums can get with a lump of money that's big enough to do something with other than pay rent for a month or two, but still small enough that you have to be reasonable with what you're doing.

Is this question supposed to get us to use this meager sum in order to achieve workers' revolution? Unfortunately, I'd first spend it on a gun, some video games, some good pot, and any other things I might want for my own short term pleasure. I'd probably invest or save the rest.

To further build on this because I can't be bothered coming back to this thread later for the butthurt LARPing Holla Forumsyp, to short a stock is to leverage your entire portfolio against a stock going down, with it pretty much being the opposite of buying them and hoping for them to go up. You can lose $10k in seconds doing this and it's quite normal to do so at the start of the short, which is why you need a large amount of money for leverage.
If this guy had any idea what he was talking about he would would buy puts, which give you the right to sell a stock for the price that you bought the put at, which you can redeem when it drops to a certain price (the price you can redeem them at affects the price of the put itself). You can then sell the puts to people that can afford the stocks or use it to buy the stock and sell it on yourself. These, along with calls (the opposite, pretty much) are called options.
It is the broker who pays in the end for these if you profit, in case anyone is wondering. Obviously it is them who profits if you don't.
This is why you should never trust anyone trying to bullshit and bluster people around here with the porky flag.
