Vertical combat is an open dimension available for people who can handle it. Just like you can be killed from infinite angles you ca also do the same. Not everybody is so dull that they can't handle not shooting down corridors all the time. Go play Doom, you don't even have to look up.

The whole point of Battlefield is that it's meant to be "tacticool".
It's not an arena shooter.
You can't move tactically and check angles if there are thousands of angles to check.
It works in a game like Titanfall because that has rapid movement and parkour.
Battlefield is slow by comparison.
In BF3, BF2 and BFBC it worked because the maps were designed decently well.
BF4 onwards the maps had huge sprawls of open space with no cover, making it impossible to cross on foot without getting picked off by someone in a building or on a hill somewhere.

The thing about Brink's parkour is that you literally held a button to do it, which was every bit as imprecise and awful as you'd think. It was a weird game because it advertised movement as a selling point, but didn't trust players enough to actually move.

Titanfall 2 didn't take off for many reasons; the skill gap was one of the more prominent ones since the game lacks matchmaking. Aesthetically, I think many casuals found it offputting (remember, these are the same people who thought Infinite Warfare was bad because it was too radical a departure from CoD's awful art style and setting).

Not sure what makes a bad ultimate from gameplay perspective. Soldier 76's ultimate is literally an aimbot. It has a lot to do with how long it takes to get an ultimate. As a general rule, I would say ultimates are great abilities that still need teamwork to make a high impact.
