You dps when you can during O1-4S, but you need crit in as many things as you can slot into with some SPS and piety mixed into what you can't. Some of the phases hit real hard and having DH doesn't help you fuck all when it comes to healing through some of those mechanics. Besides lb3 is meant to pickup the slack for what the healers couldn't bring in dps. Either way it sounds like you don't raid.

Hahahaha you really don't understand how things work do you? Direct hit only affects offensive spells and attacks hence why its so good for DPS, it literally cannot affect a heal or a shield where as crit can.

The flat numbers don't really give any details as to what they do; optimally melded, how much of a difference does materia actually make for damage? This is coming from a caster. I don't even know if i'm melding the right types; hearing DH is always good, but does direct hit affect a SMN's dot ticks? That's not to say that the DoTs are more important than how much Ruin III/IV, Deathflare, and Bahamut does, but I'm trying to squeeze the most out of the job.

I have a RDM, but my main has always been SMN, the former isn't 70 yet. Besides, if RDM is in such an overtly good place right now, then one of two things are bound to happen: other classes will be buffed to compete, or rdm will get dialed back. Regardless, that doesn't answer my questions of materia.

I would imagine DH with some SPS melded in and then if you are doing progression then meld some vit into your accessories since it adds a decent hp cushion.

No what's going to happen is SMN is going to get nerfed 20 times and then BLM and RDM are going to get buffed. MCH is the forgotten class so they won't be touched, and then they'll justify it with a bullshit reason like "we felt like SMN had too much HP so we changed his damage to strength "

what fuckin problems? their damage is in a good spot and they greatly buff one of the must have jobs, bard, alongside the whole party. tank's didn't really get shit on when I see them pulling dps that's comparable to a dps, infact, shirk was the best thing to ever happen to tanks. pretty much all the jobs except mch and smn are represented well in savage atm.

I'm still waiting for the user to respond to the Direct Hit affects heals statement. It could be b8, but he sounds like he truly believes it to be true and now that hes been called out as fucking retard he won't respond.

DRG's dps is abysmal compared to other melee dps. A ninja brings far more than they do, and optimally you want 2 ranged /2 melee right now. And if you're pushing content while undergeared a MNK brings more than BRD's troubador skill does.
Outside of that WHM is incredibly situationally useful compared to the always useful and still best healer even with the balance nerf AST, and SCH doesn't have anything.
DRK's dps compared to the other tanks is horrible for it's mitigation while WAR lost a ton of self sustain for nothing.

It's like you want to die and you want to hope that other players are good enough to not fuck up your cards and you want to hope that you pull the right card.

it's cancer. my sam nets ~4k, and i've seen brd's top 3100 on o1s.


smn is REALLY punished for dying at the wrong time. if you die right before your bahamut goes out, you lose a huge chunk of your damage, and you won't be getting any of it back, at all. on top of that, your damage comes in 2 minute chunks, with much of it loaded into the duration of your bahamut.

i could see that with a full DH build. im running tenacity atm, but im inclined to try out DH since i spend so much time in deliverance anyway.

not really, the piercing debuff and litany are huge for bards, which are extremely popular and in nearly every group, and litany/dragon sight are good for the party/another dps. i'd say they bring a similar amount of dps utility to the party as a ninja but favors bards more.

whm is amazing in prog but falls off a bit, otherwise good. sch and ast are kings of dps as always but healer balance is perfectly fine.

drk's dps isnt much worse than the others and warriors are still best dps so still wanted

secondary stats aren't *that* important unless you have class mechanics that interact with them like crit for brd and mnk. playing slightly better will always outweigh secondaries

DRK is still worse and excells in no situations compared to WAR or PLD. There's literally no reason to bring a WHM 90% of the time and BRD doesn't bring enough dps to warrant bringing a personal buff bot as opposed to buffing you know the main dps

it's true, shirk is awesome, but war and drk got shat on in this xpac. they lost their native stuns and native dots, as well as loads of self-sustain via bloodbath, not to mention utility (and some dps) such as old reprisal/low blow and storm's path.

pld lost nothing, except access to blood bath. even with 4 pld skills being tossed into the role pool they still make out better than war and drk, because pld can take those 4 plus 1 other and be done with it, while war and drk basically use the same 4 pld will use (reprsial, rampart, shirk and voke) and then choose between conv and awareness.

although this is as much a problem with the cross role stuff in general as it is with war and drk. the main point being that drk and war got dumbed way down for no good reason was fracture/scourge really that hard a button to press every 30s? without much of anything to show for it. meme cleave is fun, sure, but the only reason it's a major gain in dps has more to do with storm's path granted 2x the resource it did back in HW and ARR. meanwhile, drk's get good a good tank/utility skill disguised as an OT dps booster that actually does fuckall for boosting damage compared to just using the mp on dark arts. plus drk has two full combos now by which i mean one full combo because no one uses the PS combo outside of the initial pull, if even then

i've said this before and i'll say it again; it's like two development teams were working on job balance for SB. you have awesome stuff like rotating songs with unique personal buffs for brd, or pld's super smooth half-magic/half-physical rotation, fortified with amazing utility on top of solid damage. but then you also have the shitshow of pre-4.05 war that somehow passed muster with 50% gauge loss for stance swapping, or the incredibly back-ended smn damage rotation, or the initial iteration of plenary indulgence/confession stacks many whm's i know enjoy the skill now that it procs off of aoe heals instead of just single targetit's also apparently bugged now and has a 100% chance to grant a confession stack, which nobody has been complaining about because otherwise it would be shit. why didn't the pld/brd treatment happen to every class? why did drg, war, drk and blm get dumbed down; unnecessarily so; while other classes had some interesting and in the case of pld, sorely needed complexity that was added to them?

i like the xpac so far. but as much as i like it, i gotta be honest that some of the changes they made to the jobs seem, at best, backwards and hamfisted.

personally i'd like to see the old geirskogul/botd mechanic brought back via dragon sight. make it a buff with a set duration that can be extended by using the appropriate attacks. make it so that, when done right, a drg can have that buff up on themselves and an ally of their choice full time. cut the damage boost it grants if you have to, but give the class something to make up what was lost.

It's actually intentional that confession procs every time. I believe that was stated in the patch notes here: na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/topics/detail/782e44043959ae82ead5c6745dac3297a0083b69.

I also think that there were some clashing philosophies in the 4.0 class designs and directions. For example, MNK had to gain more utility because SAM would be placed in their role as selfish DPS. The problem being that MNK only really has three utility skills. Mantra (which they already had), Brotherhood (which is okay but it feels really underwhelming if you have more than one magic DPS) and Dragon kick's Blunt resist down (which isn't really utility until they add a DPS or Tank class that deals blunt damage and doesn't have a resist down themselves). They also have access to three stuns and a silence but the need for those doesn't really come up often enough to make a difference. Then there's Riddle of Fire which is just a weird skill to give to MNK in the first place, it's a damage increase overall but it doesn't fit MNK. I always thought of MNKs as a DPS class that ramps up their speed and damage and then deals consistent damage. Now with this and the Chakra changes, their damage feels a lot more variable and slower.

There's also the hilarious "removing skill bloat"-argument they threw out. Right now, MNK has 7 traits and 26 hotkey-able skills. 13 PUG skills and 13 MNK skills. Of those 26, 5 are completely useless and 4 of them only have niche or limited uses. That's 35% of your already limited skillset that you can completely ignore if you just want to deal damage.
There's also tackle mastery which is a trait that gives you 30 extra potency every 30 seconds because they were not creative enough to come up with something interesting or useful. Then there's baffling things like Purification, One Ilm Punch and other shit not worth talking about because anyone can immediately see how bad they are.

You can find stuff like this in nearly every class. I'm only really comfortable talking about MNK, SAM and MCH since i have the most experience with them. SAM is in a great place and MCH especially 4.05 MCH has been talked about a lot already so not much reason to talk about their stuff.

I forgot to mention that i'm fine with where MNK is right now. There are just some things that Square decided that i don't understand. Also, after 4.05 i don't want to see another favorite of mine go so i'd rather MNK remain unchanged.

i hear you on SAM. they don't have a single "useless" skill. neither does RDM. nor do DRK or WAR at least for native job skills anywayand not talking about aggro combos or Shake It Off, for what that's worth. MNK seems to have a lot of "huh, that's neat" type of skills that sound cool on paper but don't do a damn thing in practice. like if One Ilm Punch could ALWAYS affect a target that would be great, but obviously if the stun would work on savage-level stuff, MNK would be 100% in demand as OIP bots who bring stout dps. so instead of adding some unique feature, they just kinda leave OIP as is. i'd love it if OIP had a Reprisal-like effect, where it would lower damage by 5 or 10% for a few seconds and then apply immunity to OIP for like, the next 30-45s. make it only affect things that are truly immune to the stun effect so that the skill isn't useless in anything beyond solo content.

likewise, they need to add more role action synergy to a variety of jobs. PLD has Intervention, and Intervention specifically states that the dmg reduction it provides is boosted if it's used on a target while the PLD is under the effect of Rampart or Sentinel. that's a neat synergy right there, as it forces you to make an interesting decision; do i blow personal defense at a sub-optimal time in order to help an ally, or do i just throw the 10% reduction on them and hope for the best? i'd like to see similar such synergy for all the classes. for example, Drain could have 150% more potency when used by a RDM who currently has a higher amount of black mana, while it would heal for 200% more when the RDM has a higher amount of white mana. this would give RDM's an interesting situational choice with Drain. sometimes it might be better to utilize Drain in place of another spell for that extra dmg+heal combo, such as when you're sitting at a good spot to dart in for your melee combo, but you know the boss is about to do a mechanic that will endanger or kill you during the combo. you can do a bit of self-healing without losing too much damage if your black mana is higher, or self heal for a solid amount alongside some damage if white mana is higher.

this game needs more interesting decisions like that. part of the fun of old WAR was choosing whether or not to blow RI and/or Veng on Abandon stacks. using a defensive tool to gain offensive power - at the cost of losing access to that tool should a need arise for it down the line - creates points of decision that a player must make. these decision points, done correctly, add interest and complexity to the game.

just off the top of my head you could add something for DRK and Anticipation that brings back the old DA+DD defensive dodging combo, and something for WAR where, for 15s after using Provoke and 20s after using Ultimatum, you would gain the Bloodbath effect. Conv, when used by DRK or PLD, could be changed to also restore 5% of the healing done per heal as MP for the duration of Conv, ignoring the DRK's normal Darkside "no MP from outside sources" limitation.

i imagine similar things could be easily added to DPS and healer role skills. make Lucid Dreaming add a stack of Aetherflow for SCH and SMN, make it extend the duration of personal effects on AST by 10s when used, and make it also grant a strong, unique Regen effect for it's duration when used by a WHM.

I'm going to chime in on that last part;

On the topic of caster dps self healing, why is it ok that Vercure heals for 6k+ and Summoner's Physic heals for 600? Both numbers are at 70.

Also, most of what you're saying (having job-specific interactions with role skills to make them more interesting) is far too complicated for the average Jap. They'd piss themselves in fear at the idea of meaningful choices, or any choices at all really. It's just not compatible with their culture.

Because why are you trying to heal as a smn? Summoner shares levels with scholar, and it's a base healing spell, the difference being smn don't have heal stats. If you want a non mechanical answer, rdm has to master both black and white magic, healing is white.

How bad does lag affect a SAM? My connection has been shit lately and I was playing NIN until now and had to stop when I realized I was suddenly pulling embarrassing numbers and half my fucking rotation just clips away into dust. Even casting a regular ninjutsu fucks my dps up and had to outright remove TCJ from the bar.
Back in HW is was hovering around 3k with ease with the old BiS, and now I'm struggling to hit 2.5k with i315 what the FUCK

I said self-heal. Since we lost sustain, we have to hard heal our pet when it takes damage. Having physic only heal for ~5-600 makes that impossible, just like it makes it impossible to heal yourself through damage while soloing. That's why SMNs don't use titan anymore. Soloing mobs isn't a mini tank and spank, it's a dps race to see who kills who first and titan doesn't help as much as the other egis in that regard. My main point still stands: RDM's healing is grossly overpowered. They also don't have healing stats on their gear, their heals scale on spell damage.

well, partially what said, but honestly i think, due to the lack of sustain, physick's effect needs to be increased by 2-400% when the SMN uses it on their own pets. make it a trait you get at 30 or something. you can also make it add a low potency HoT to the pet, and even the SMN too, for some more self-sustain without stepping on RDM toes.

not really that bad, thanks to the queue system for skills. the only thing that may get a bit screwy is dumping Kenki with Shinten/Kyuten, or delaying your Iaijutsu in order to make sure Kaiten has gone off and it's not used on the wrong skill or some shit. maybe some weird shit with Meikyo Shisui, but honestly SAM is 90% GCD-based, so i can't see lag being a huge thing like it is for NIN.

SAM only has 3 skills that I don't use regularly: Meditate(I'm autistic and tend to only use it when I can get at least 10 seconds out of it), Hissatsu Seigan(because I usually use the self-heal instead), and Hagakure(because building Kenki is easy past 62).

Barely. Lag fucks over nin hard, but Sam will only get their dps delayed a bit. Nin can easily lose their mudras if the servers decide to shit themselves.


A new balance patch is coming out in a few days. It's supposed to make some changes to Smn and Mch, but I have a feeling that Rdm and Sam may take a hit.

you're missing out on a LOT of dmg fam. i use that shit basically on CD. as long as you're not losing out on Kenki because you're close to cap when you use it, it's always a dps gain, even over a Kaiten+Midare barring certain conditions, like DRG crit buff/sight or TA on the mob etc.

it sounds weird to say that but hear me out:

assuming 20 Kenki (enough for Kaiten) and 3 Sen, you can get a single 1080 potency Midare. this will cost 20 Kenki + 1 GCD, which generally amounts to about 1 auto attack (100 potency).

now, if you use Hagakure under the same conditions of 20 Kenki and 3 Sen, you now have 80 Kenki, which is enough for 3 Shintens. at 300 potency each, that's 900 total potency that has no meaningful CD to it. you can throw those 3 Shintens out in under 2 GCD's, while also doing your GCD moves. since Midare took a GCD to use, you're also using another skill in it's place, and you're also not interrupting your AA's. so assuming you use Hakaze, our lowest potency GCD move, this puts you at a net gain of 1050 potency. adding in the AA, that brings us up to 1150 potency. this also isn't even considering that Shinten is mobile damage, compared to Midare which is immobile.

now that doesn't mean just hold Hagakure for 3 Sen all the time, but it's a good example of the trade off's. but as i said before, if there's some sort of special buff up (litany, TA, brotherhood etc.) then Midare generally wins out.

Hagakure is also great as a "reset" for your Sen if you should find yourself overlapping for some reason, like if you had to dodge and aoe or a boss jumped and your Shifu or Jinpu buffs fell off but you don't want to overwrite those Sen. just Hagakure and reset everything then start over, throwing in Shinten or Kyuten as needed to keep from capping.

Square is incapable of nerfing things by the numbers and they only ruin playstyles instead. RDM is the only job I play now after SB, so if they ruin it I'll just unsub ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I highly doubt they'll touch anything but SMN/MCH, though, and I also doubt the changes will amount to anything substantial. Most MCH players would be happy just with getting heat reverted to 4.0 values but I doubt SE will give them even that.

I get what you're saying, but you generally don't end up in a situation where you have 3 Sen and only 20 Kenki, since just by doing the combos to build those Sen you'll accumulate 55 Kenki(assuming you do your positionals). That gives you enough for a Shinten and a Kaiten+Midare, which gives you a total 1380 potency. The point about it being mobile is good though, and I hadn't really considered using it as a reset button, that'd be a good idea when going into a boss fight with 2 Sen or something like that.

And the pet class with healing capabilities somehow isn't meant to solo overworld mobs? Also, what fucking decade are we in where a class' ability to function on a basic level outside of group content sets them apart from everything else?

You would have that shinten regardless of whether or not you used hagakure. You should be comparing the cost of converting your 3 sen into kenki or using kaiten midare. It does end up being a bit weird since, from what I can tell, the only reason the hagakure route ends up being better is because you get in an extra auto attack instead of casting midare.

I was speaking as a summoner; I don't know how sch works but if i use any attunement, it doesn't free up a space, I get wyrm aether. Getting a single charge from lucid would only ever end up wasteful.

From memory, it's every 40 points of direct hit = 1% increase to direct hit chance. Direct hit also increases base damage, but I can't remember if it's the same percentage. Crit works differently but is a similar number for a similar percentage increase. I keep DH and Crit side-by-side to maximise super-crits or whatever they're called, but I'm an unorthodox SMN. Spell Speed still affects DoT damage, as does DET. Det I think scales the worst as needing something like 130 points per 1% damage increase.

Why would you ever take DET over DH unless capped? And even then, wouldn't crit be better for the better scaling on the super-crits?

Being able to solo reliably was also part of SMN's identity before Yoshida took a big fat steaming shit all over job balance.

Crit is weird and scales differently from the other stats, tl;dr it's a weak substat at the start of the expac but as ilvls (and by extension how much crit we can get) rises it becomes stronger and stronger.

Just grind PotD floors 50-60 while breaking it up by doing the highest level dungeon you can do at your current level

Do what the other user says. Beat it and get to floor 100 and watch as your exp shoots up. At most when you reach level 62+ you might want to consider doing the SB dungeons in lieu of PotD.

Yup, that's what makes PotD so damn good when it comes to leveling. Get your weapon to around 30 or so and 50-60 floor grinding will be pretty fast. The worst part will be how mind numbing it is to repeat PotD. That shit made me take the slower road to 70 and enjoy my time there.

Most people want to idle in towns with their flashy new weapon, they don't want to contribute to something worthwhile - like raiding attunement or trading routes. for WAR it's nice up to a certain point. generally around a 2.39 or 2.4 GCD, which i think is about 1000 skill speed, maybe a bit less. for PLD and DRK it isn't really a big deal. WAR rotation tends to be very tight, so shaving a few fractions of a second off your GCD ensures you get the most out of it.

That's quite literally only LFR/normal modes. The top end content of WoW is just as hard, if not harder, than it ever has been. I'd actually say it outclasses XIV in that regard. I just want this game, the one I'm playing right now, to learn from its competitors and become better than just acceptable. Right now, no one really plays this game because they love it. They play it because they want to play WoW, but hate WoW. I know this because there is zero online community for this game. Look at a site like xivdb and then look at wowhead. Which one, right now, has more activity and support? WoW is in its worst decline, and people playing it still give more of a fuck about their game than XIV players do. Look at screenshots for gear in both sites. The coolest cosmetic weapons that XIV has to offer have between zero and one. Almost everything on wowhead has a screenshot, because the community, from shitters to world first players, participates in the game and the websites around it. And because the XIV players don't care, the devs don't care either. No one likes this game enough to demand a better product. They're fine with mediocre and Square is more than happy to deliver on that.

Yeah, fun isn't it? The last two ARR story dungeons are their own roulette, so 90% of the people doing them are massively overgeared and have done them a million times already. If you have any higher-leveled friends you play with, ask them to do the next one with you unsynced.

That's why I stopped watching ANY cutscenes in quests/dungeons where you have parties. I just go back to my room and watch the full cinematic there after all of the gameplay is done.

Well it's a massive problem with FFXIV. Unless I dumped my current static to find one that is capable of clearing V4 Savage then I've got nothing to do that isn't grinding the same mindless, boring content to level classes, so I can use those in the same mindless, boring content I've already cleared.

Accessibility isn't just making content boring, it's removing lack of long term goals. Hell, it's destroying most of the social aspect of the game too… Gone are the days you'd need to search in game for skilled players, maintain contact with them and create your own network/find contacts to join other networks.
Now you just click a button and pop, duty is up, don't worry the content is easy enough to clear even with 3 DPS doing 1300 DPS at level 70 and with a healer dying every 5 seconds.
Then again I can't exactly blame Yoshi for the LFR button, people would just bypass the networking process and find eachother on websites like Reddit, or other forums.

A big problem is how this game is viewed by the development team, they've pushed and marketed this as a single player MMO. Hell Square reps have said on shows at events like E3, that even if you don't like playing with other people then you can come for the story and not bother with anyone.

I got really burnt out on this shit during ARR. Is it worth coming back? Or has the game only grown shittier like the WOW knock off that it is?

There's a cutscene like 100 feet into the first room, which is likely what he's referring to. I know because I also had to go through something similar. It's just incredibly poor design to put that many cutscenes in a grouping that big. I'm level 60 and am about to start Heavensward and I STILL don't know how the main game ended.

You beat Ultima Weapon with the help of Hydealyn, and saved the Eorzean people from Garlean rule. Now go north and deal with the dragon problem.

These 2 dungeons in particular were a big fuckup that Yoshi learned from and never did again.
Dungeons from this point on have no cutscenes besides the 5 seconds intros and all story related scenes only happen after you complete it

Yeah, I got that part. I've been getting to go north and fight the dragons for about a hundred missions after the main story now. Shit's tedious, but at least I'm able to level up so now I'm level 60 going into level 50 areas.

I think they need to take a chopping block to the first three hundred quests if they want anyone to actually play through to Stormblood content. Stuff like gathering all the ingredients for the feast are just massive time-wasters in the long run, and there are a ton of them - of the 184 Main Story Quests, I'd say only about half of them are necessary or interesting.


I have noticed that, and I'm glad. Midgardsormr's cutscene was after I hit the Exit node for the dungeon, and I appreciate that.

yeah, say what you will but the dev team learned from CM and the praetorium. all CS happen independent of anything that goes in on a dungeon, and the longest dungeon CS you'll get is the opening intro and the boss kill sequence.

No, you would only go alone or whoever was with you in your party when you queue. At most you can advertise in the pf. I did something similar to this when SB launched and people will gladly play around 500k for a run. The problem is that you're still in ARR and its the worst MSQ. That is when they were scared to break from the MMO formula and painted by numbers. When you get to stormblood you'll get to sneak around like a ninja with smoke bombs, go full SNIPER ELITE, take place in a large scale war, try to assassinate Super Saiyan Zenos, and this will all be before Doma Castle. It gets good, really it does. You just have to stick with it. It blows that it took them two fucking expacs to find their stride but trust me when I say that they did.

Trust me, I'm well aware of how this game gets treated by the devs. My point was meant to counter the assertion that WoW is 100% casual trash, when really, it's still trash, just with content for every level of player. I have tons of issues with this game and the fact that the devs treat it more like a cutesy fashion sim, rather than a fantasy adventure, is chief among them. Square has proven their skill in exactly two things: art and music. Neither of those two things are the actual making of a game. That's why the FF13 trilogy and FF15 were such shit games that were visually impressive with great music. Fang and Claw and Wheeling Thrust have 290 potency when executed from the proper direction, but 200 (now 250) when done from the wrong direction.
Heavy Thrust works like that too, with 180 potency from the right direction and 100 (now 140) from the wrong direction.
Chaos Thrust without the combo bonus is 100 when done from the wrong direction and 150 (now 140) from the right direction. With the combo bonus it's 220 (now 230) from the wrong direction, and 270 from the right direction.

At best, all these changes do is not punish DRGs for not being able to hit positionals due to mechanics. It's otherwise a non-buff made to look like a buff.

Thankfully I was wrong, they just don't let you into Coerthas Western until they drag you around Ishgard for three quests, but after that they teleport you over to Falcon's Nest for the MSQ, so you can attune to the aetherite there and walk around to do the PLD quest too. Got Shelltron and Goring Blade already, and I'm damn ready for it, because I've been using the same rotation for the last ten levels.

functionally impossible, unless you're referring to the Arhat gear dropped in Ala Mhigo itself or people who somehow beat shinryu then come in as another class in their antiquated AF + verity gear yet still manage to be shit at the game

the highest ilvl you can get prior to beating shinryu and without crafted gear is 298 or 299. of course, now that crated ilvl 320 gear is in game, there's really no excuse for anyone to be stuck on shinryu. even just one or two NQ left side pieces will be enough to pad your life to the point that raid-wide aoe isn't an issue. of course, the playerbase in this game has proven me wrong on a number of times before, but that's also kinda why i like shinryu. it's the Aurum Vale of SB, only SE had the good sense to lock literally all the end-game behind it, which does a fine job of either keeping shitters out, or forcing them to git gud enough that they aren't 100% dead weight on a party. i can see how he would suck for good players who started later and then have to swim in the sea of shit that is everyone who can't into mechanics.

I did Shinryu with a group of randoms and we did fine once we kicked the healer who whined that we were going to wipe before the fight even began(and then started actively trying to make us wipe). The fight isn't that hard once you understand the mechanics, just takes some practice.

I got past the shitter gate the only way I know how: queuing as a healer. Dead scrubs do slightly less damage than living ones, so you just keep them alive and win through the sheer force of their collective mediocrity.

I did gate as PLD and we wiped the first time because the dps didnt focus the middle sword. I covered the healer and popped a redux skill so me and the healer lived. The healer got one dps up but then got chained and everyone died after that. After scolding the dps we managed to beat the boss and I got no commendation since they were all shitters that couldn't realize they got carried by their tank.

I can't find it right now but I have a similar screenshot somewhere of Y'shtola complaining about how long the banquet quest was.

And I think Thancred even lampshades it once, saying something like, "I don't know why I even bother showing up until you do. It's not like the fun starts until you get here."

i loved alisaie at tamamizu, before you face off with susano and she makes an off-hand comment about needing you and 7 of your conveniently-in-the-same-place-at-the-same-time adventurer friends for "something."

Damn, that's something to look forward to once I'm through all of Heavensward.


I'm trying out red mage for now, since it starts at 50 and that's where the quests are. It's not complicated, but it is more complicated than PLD for sure. I think it will be a lot easier once I get a better handle on the rotations. In that regard, is pic related accurate?

That is pretty much the extent to how Red Mage plays, yeah. The few things not listed:
You can Quickcast to cast three spells in a row.
If you start your melee combo and use Manafication during it, you will reset the combo and have to start from the first attack again.
If you have Verholy/Verflare procced and you start casting something else, or accidentally use one of your melee skills, you will lose your Verholy/Verflare proc.
In fights with exactly three targets remaining, casting Scatter->Veraero/Verfire deals the same amount of potency and generates more white/black mana overall. On four or more targets it's better to just keep chaining Scatter, and with two targets you should stick to a single target rotation.

Thanks, I'll try and keep all that in mind. Once I hit 70 with it it should be easier since I don't have to account for holes in the rotation from skills I don't have yet.
