That's what I mean though. Buying Iron Man without the rest of the Avengers is a shit deal because so much stuff that is integral to what makes him appealing is tied up in the wider Marvel Universe.
Did you know that the descendants of Jerry Seigel actually own half the copyright to Superman? But they only own what was in Action Comics #1's Superman story. So they have Superman, the name Clark Kent, and Lois Lane. That's about it. No Lex Luthor, no Jimmy Olsen, no Ma and Pa Kent, no Metropolis, and I'm pretty sure they didn't even name Krypton (they certainly didn't show it). People might think Superman is a big name, but good luck doing a story about him worth a damn without any of his supporting characters, locations, or other elements. But he's the very first superhero. After him, tons of characters were made with the wider shared universe integral to their stories, or their modern popular versions rely on elements of the wider universe very heavily. The original Blue Beetle is public domain. That version is also so forgotten that he's not even in the DCU, not even in the multiverse. So go ahead and use him, but nobody gives a damn about that version. The version people give a shit about is all about how he interacts with the Justice League and Booster Gold. Buying the rights to Blue Beetle would be practically worthless. Go ahead and buy the rights to Hawkeye and Black Widow. They're in the Avengers movies, they must be popular. But good luck having anyone give a shit unless they're fighting some Captain America or Avengers villains, who won't be part of the deal.
All the Marvel movies before Iron Man are things that they leased the rights out for. So Punisher, Blade, X-Men, Spider-Man, Daredevil, Hulk, Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider. Of those, they got the rights back for Punisher, Blade, Daredevil, Hulk, and Ghost Rider. But they don't have the distribution rights, so they can use the character but Universal gets to distribute the movie, so Disney refuses to make a Hulk solo movie and give Universal money. They got the rights back to Blade a while back but have not used them yet. Ghost Rider they only used in Agents of Shield and it was the shit new Ghost Rider and not either of the two older versions that people liked (because those versions were white guys and this one is latino). Daredevil got a Netflix show and Punisher is in it and is getting a spinoff. Daredevil is actually a good show, despite that one fag we're complaining about in the thread being VP of Marvel Television or some shit.
Marvel still does not have the rights to Spider-Man, but they wanted them bad, and Amazing Spider-Man 2 tanked so hard Sony worked a deal with Disney to put their next Spider-Man movie in the MCU, but it's still technically Sony making it. The result was Homecoming. Take from that what you will.
Fox still has the rights to Fantastic Four and X-Men (Deadpool is an X-Men character). This is why F4n4st4c was made. If they don't do a Fantastic Four movie every so often, they lose the rights, like they lost Daredevil. In the early '90s Fox made a Fantastic Four movie that was never even intended to be released, just so they could keep the rights.
As a side note, Universal apparently got a great deal on Namor. They seemingly have his film rights forever. But since Aquaman has stolen a lot of his thunder (despite being a newer character) and has also become a joke, and since Fox holds Fantastic Four (a lot of Namor stories revolve around the Fantastic Four and vice-versa) he's pretty much worthless to them. He might be worth a bit to Disney, since he's literally one of the first two Marvel heroes, and the wider Marvel Universe uses that in some interesting ways, but they have other toys to play with so he's no priority.
He's in Agents of SHIELD, AKA Agents of SJW. The worst fate that can befall an MCU character. Just ask former fan favorite Agent Coulson, who doesn't even get to be the main character in what was supposed to be his show.
The latino Ghost Rider is the third major guy to be called Ghost Rider. He was only introduced shortly before they put him in the show. Original Ghost Rider was pretty much like the Nic Cage movies. Only good. He's Evel Knievel but even more hardcore.
