How does it feel knowing that every single game franchise ever will inevitably betray it's own characters and players?

I was saying this shit for fucking years but nobody ever listens to ol' anonymous shitposter now do they?

G-Man did nothing wrong

It was pretty common knowledge that Half Life would keep shilling Gordo as the main protagonist because fanboys can't accept anything that isn't a graphics update of the original game.

its a product what did you expect?
a divine revelation?
come to think of it, there are a lot of biblical references (symbolic)…. hmm

Where?

Reminder that Half Life 2 would have been a lot better but they scrapped all the cool parts that would have made it into an almost Cyberpunk-like adventure in favor of having it be set in a sleep European city and its countryside.

ingame
a lot what happens in game fits symbolically

lol

I want like a tycoon or keeper style game based around him.

that's OK for some franchises, sometimes you just want more. Monumentally conclusive "THIS IS THE END" type of stuff ala MMZ4, Logan, MGS4, etc, can be really great, but they're heavy by nature, and shouldn't be forced where they don't belong. They want to make more, and as long as the 'more' doesn't lose its quality or nuance, why stop? [within reason of course]

...

Mate if you hadn't grasped that Gordon was just a plaything for G-man and whatever cosmic forces he serves with how hard the games hammerfist you over the head with this over and over, then I have no idea how you were ever smart enough to solve the simple physics puzzles HL1 and HL2 present you with. Ending it like HL1 did with a complete non-ending where you have no idea what the fuck is going on and leaving Gordon in stasis again is more than fine by me, especially considering that even if things had gone the way Laidlaw wanted them to the series could've just dropped there and never been touched again, and at least then we'd have a conclusion.

...

Half-Life 2 kinda ended like that too.
I'm not sure how you're meant to grasp all the shit that's happening within the HL world the first time around. Maybe you aren't. In HL1, you don't know what's going on, and in HL2, you KIND OF know what's going on, except no, you still don't know what's going on.
It's a shame, because the HL universe is one of my favorite universes ever. I'd say it's ripe for side stories and spin offs of all kinds. Except besides the HL1 expansions, all we have are fan made GMod RP modes, shittons of mods, and fanfiction. Also there's the digital comic, but who cares? We don't have a lot of OFFICIAL side content.

Wow, kinda glad they never continued this series now.

I'd have to say even Blue Shift was more interesting than most of the mainline Froman games. He's really that uninteresting to me.

Jew Jew Abrams is planning on making a Half-life movie.

But HL2 is shit anyways. Shooter that instead of of having cool things in it just keeps forcing you to play around with them forcefully.

I can't say I ever particularly wanted Half Life to end. That's irrelevant now though, since we're never getting another one, and modern Valve would probably only fuck it up anyway.

source?

Straight from the fatman's mouth. They're also planning a Portal movie.

The good news is that video game movies usually bomb fucking hard.

Holla Forums is four.

FULLY

Haha, great meme response kid, consider yourself upvoted.

HL2 is shit for many other reasons that story, though.
The game itself is fucking boring.

No it's not. It's actually really good.

...

I played through it again a month ago to see if my opinion on it had changed since I hadn't played it in 8 years by that point, and he's right; the game is fucking boring. Most of the game is a driving section from one uninteresting setpiece to another

MODELED

The bad news is that Abrams' movies usually don't.

How could it be betrayal if that was the plan all along?

T-that means more GLadOS, right?

Epic thread!!! Simply.. Eric.

No. It's really good.

I recognize this picture

What happened?

Seriously, what the fuck happened?

You do know how image compression works, right? Not to mention how NASA cut the planet out of a starry backdrop. Here's your (you), faggot.

At this level of exposure, stars are too dim.

rubadubdub thanks for the dub

A stock response for a stock argument. Besides, it is a valid criticism still since the games have a focus on a narrative that is unskippable, and involves waiting around for people to finish talking.
Personal opinion time, I think the HL series is decent. There could have been far worse games to steer the direction of the genre. Perhaps you can put it as a root of the "intelligent game for intelligent gamers" horseshit, what with it being the base game Portal was made out of and the physics "puzzles" + the "totally not cutscenes guiz you can move around" tumors. It set up some bad habits and ideas for later devs, but I think that any game that was not completely horrible and a financial success could have had similar effects on the industry.

You clearly missed that big part where I said they'd probably drop the series after concluding HL2 properly.

Source suggests it's staggering along at an absolutely glacial pace, both film projects are probably as dead as their source series.

And somehow these kikes with all their money couldn't make Half-Life 3 or even hire a team of people who could.

Kill yourself valvedrones.
You are the cancer killing video games.

The idea of just sending Gordon to the next game is perfectly fine. It worked for HL1, what else do you want? Don't be a meme kid shitting up everything just to get brownie points, it smells of neogaf.

what a simpleton

...

...

Is there really people this fucking stupid?

can you recommend any to me? i'm kind of low on money and i bought the orange box because it gave me four games for the price of a sham wow

The only problem I see with this is that they haven't released anything anyways, making the point about continuing endlessly fucking moot.

Nowadays buying TF2 through Orange Box that way still nets you that proof-of-purchase hat everybody got when it went F2P, if you're into that. Beyond that though it's not a terrible deal to my memory, and if they go on sale elsewhere then they go on sale on the Orange Box.

Laidlaw's talking about it in the first place because the series (or even anyone's career due to inactivity) hasn't gone anywhere in a decade.

We dont know what he does in the first place.

It's really good though.

Not all. The Crysis series actually had a perfectly satisfactory conclusion.

It helps if you read the comics and the novel.

The closest we've got is an implication that he's one of the Combine Advisors due to that Breengrub account, mentions of absolutely astronomical psychic powers possessed by that race and that after metamorphosis they can choose their form by psychically imprinting on their own genes, so the implication is G-man is one of those bigass grubs that chose a human form before hatching. Also that Vortigaunts are working to their own ends and are probably not trustworthy even if they're on humanity's side at the moment

They don't want to make HL3, user. It's not that they can't, it's just that they don't feel the need nor the want.

Good! Its almost as if my video game wants to be a game.

Lets be real, the retards that liked HL2 would eat up anything

2 and 3 were shit though, i couldnt care less about the story when the games suck

I hated Dota 2 even though it was made by valve.

...

If you like anything by that company you are a brainless yes-man for them because I say so on an Indonesian tapestry website.

Blame Valve's flat-management, Gabe can't actually force his employees to do anything and he can't change the management-structure without most of the company wanting to do so as well.

It's not even out of fear or because they can't anymore it's because they need to keep the big guns in stock just incase Steam ever fails.

So, you say that the reintroduction of paying for mods will somehow bring forth hl3? Wtf I love paid mods nao?!

It will, it's like wanting more increased leftism because that means more people looking at them like freaks and visa versa, eventually everyone will abandon Valve and Gabe will throw out Half Life 3 on sale for $330 plus micro transactions, and licensing tax. Based Gaben will finally deliver!

user… Are you saying that… I don't *own* any of these games…?

Yep you actually don't.
Once it's linked to an account, and you use the security code, it's linked to the account, and is only use able once.

I wonder if people even still work at Valve now, appart from the few pakis payed to maintain the Steam servers and the two interns doing skins for CSGO?

B-But… I paid muni for it… I even still have the receipt and purchase history on my e-mail! IT IS TIED TO MY REAL NAME, GOD DAMNIT, MI VIDYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

How fucking dare you anti semite, maybe some added micro transaction updates to all teh games you own will teach you,

Somebody must have found a way to put your Steam games on your computer by now, I mean, the files are there

Half Life always had the potential to be a good sci-fi horror series until (((Gabe))) squandered it all by realizing selling other people's games and making retards buy cosmetics is more profitable and cost effective.

What are the chances of him actually being a silent protagonist with big brains and not a charismatic fuck boi with big muscles?

New-hires, VR developers and general do-nothings is my assumption. All the old guard is leaving, and even a goodly chunk of the new-hires going by that dumbass Jay Pinkerton leaving.

It's called a cracked steam.dll file and moving it out of the steamapps folder. It's retardedly easy to crack Steamworks, and on the off-chance it ships with some other DRM then the same applies for whatever methods exist to crack that other software.

This, I've been using steam refund as a pirating service since it came out
ez pz

The perfect actor to play gordon already came and went.

Did aids get him already? I thought money gave you like 25 years +

Most of your AAA steam games are the retail versions with a steamed exe. You just replace the exe with the cracked retail version and congratulations, you have a copy of the game that you can backup somewhere. To play it you just drag and drop off a disc to your hard drive. There's not even any registry keys from an install that you have to worry about.

While they lack the flexibility of the first Crysis, they're still much more enjoyable than most modern games of the genre.

he's not dead yet, he did give Denise Richards aids though which is lol, also she's addicted to crack

Half Life 2 has always had criticism you sperg. Can you honestly defend the unskippable cutscenes, bullet sponges, and the bullshit "YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN SAVE THE WORLD OR DO ANYTHING AT ALL" story with boring characters?

Good man that Charlie

people who liked it moved on, leaving only loudmouths who need to feel validated

thats because HL tried to make a big deal out of making cutscenes ingame and first person because they think that 3rd person cutscene/cg cutscene are immersion breaking.
don't you remember the 15 minute long unskippable train ride at the start of HL followed by at least 15 more minutes of unskippable ingame sequences?

IIRC those were the only 2 cutscenes in the entire game. At least I could move around and explore in this big level compared to Kleiner's small lab in the beginning of HL2.

It's immersive and actually pretty neat. The alternative is watching a movie between every level load that you have no control over, with character models that are about ten thousand polys better than the ones your playing as.

Personally I think we should have done away with any kind of cutscene at all, anytime the player isn't actively doing something is wasting the players time.

I love how people seriously believe that Gabe has a big red "TAKE ALL OF user'S GAEMS AWAY" button, that he'd ever press it, and that Steam would not immediately fail completely as a result.

At the same time people believe Gabe when he said that he had a magic tool that would unlock all steam games if Valve ever went bankrupt.

I don't believe he's an evil jew that's gonna take all your games away just for giggles but at the same time I don't believe if steam goes under he's just going to give them away for free. My advice is to back up your own games in a playable state and don't be stupid enough to rely on the good will of a fat millionaire.

it's not like they had some master plan, they were obviously making this shit up as they went along

oh yeah, people have never been banned for bullshit reasons and lost access to their account.
whatever, you're an idiot if you use steam anyway

oh boy I cant wait for chell and glados to be lesbians because the undertone of Portal was definitely lesbians and not mother and daughter and for the star of HL to actually be a black member of the resistance

Why does it have to be one of two extremes? A middle ground would be perfectly feasible: make it interactive, but also skippable.

I think they went back on that.
ALL SALES ARE FINAL, GOYIM.

i like how you fags make shit up
his gf that got aids was that pornstar
and his wife that uses crack is the other one

how'd he get AIDS, again?

Think someone needs to back the fuck up here.

I cant wait for GABEN to let us #finish the fight

...

Why can't reddit use fucking normal timestamps? Jesus. Also
If the fucker is going to make a HL episode he's just going to get some other studio to do it.

Freeman's kind of a non-character up until HL2, and even then he was primarily given character through Blue Shift's mentions of him (ie that he and Barney race through air-ducts to find Kleiner's keys) and HL2 canonizing a lot of the more cantankerous decisions or easter-eggs you can make. Which is hilarious that Valve still holds to the idea that Freeman is a player-insert, when that only could've feasibly applied to the very first game and the very second they drudged up HL1 references of things Gordon had done he became his own character regardless of your input.

Other studios were working on Half-Life 2 Episodes, but they got cancelled. Warren Spector's studio was one of them working on it, before they got bought out and then made Epic Mickey.
