I never took a hard look at the arcade version before to notice, I was only partially familiar with the nes ports. Holy shit though, that's completely prophetic of micro transactions.

Double Dragon 3 for the arcade was even worse. You had a literal in-game shop where you could use real money to buy more health and powerups.

Oh yeah, continues we common before that. The problem was that a lot of players were starting to figure out the quarter munchers faster and faster so the kike tier devs had to come up with new shit. Soon popping in more shekels meant that you got more time, more items, more power ups, ect. It quickly became more than just continuing your game, and for some reason people were suckered in for a short amount of time before the kikery was too much for everyone and the quarter well dried up overnight.

Nope, that's not even the problem. Continuing is for dumb fags anyway. The problem with Gauntlet is that you could keep playing as long as your skill allowed, but the game was revised with dood removed so that no matter what, it was impossible to 1cc even with perfect play.

I think only the early gamecube versions are glitched as fuck, and were fixed in later releases. I don't remember my copy being a shitfest.

Yellow Wizard and Blue Knight were always my favorite, wiz for solo and knight for playing with friends. Its a shame the series fell off after Dark Legacy.

I recently started playing through the new Gauntlet with a friend, its alright but its not similar to legacy in any way shape or form. No usable items outside of potions, nothing to collect other than gold, less/no unlockable classes though they are much more fleshed out.
Main pro of the game is that it has combat much deeper than the hack and slash fest of legends/legacy, but it misses out on what made those games so fun: exploration. The settings in Gauntlet are more or less all the same boring catacombs, compared to all of the crazy ass locations you got to explore in the previous games. Also no items is fucking lame and gay.

Also worth noting, the N64 version also disabled the N64 blur filter. Game is razor sharp.

More or less, yeah.

I never noticed framerate being an issue until people mentioned it, but it is supposedly isolated to the PS2 version. The GC version has better framerate. The N64 port of Gauntlet Legends is great but is objectively inferior. Dark Legacy is a complete expansion in the way that expansions used to get made. I wouldn't count Dark Legacy out just for having a slightly poorer framerate when even the best version of Legends is missing content and looks blocky even though it's supposed to be "sharp." The ironic thing about the Dreamcast version is that it came out a year before Dark Legacy, getting some of the finished features and yet missing some stuff from the N64/PS1 versions.

The only real complaint I have is that the GC version is bugged but I think this bug only exists when running it off the Wii. The game can freeze when you pick up a scroll hint and the game goes unresponsive. Also I think all versions have a bug where one account can only have one character with paid for stats so even if you grind spider queen boss fights for gold and maxed out all your stats, if you start leveling a new character under the same name, expect the game to mysteriously revert your stats to base stats even when max level.

Last but certainly not least, Red Sorceress is the best Gauntlet. Her level ~9 outfit is lewder than a blocky nude N64 Valkyrie any day. Dream World is best world. Forsaken Province is still the most fun even if it's the new starting level. Can't play the Dream World on the Dreamcast even though you can play the Jester.

I knew one day "long plays" would finally be a thing but to this day I cannot understand people who just want to watch people play video games, videos or streams.

They're more useful than a walkthrough. Watching someone else play is much easier to understand than some shitty text guide and muddy screenshots

Yeah, if you actively tried to fuck people over, it was hilarious. On the other hand, you could also abuse the tag system to make enemies infinitely easier to kill, too, since they always bee-line towards the player that's IT, so you just keep him way in the back while everyone hacks away at enemies like a gory disassembly line.

There was seven sorrows. It was short and disappointing.
And there was the retro remake one, I never played it.

The newer one on PC is alright. There's no level grinding, no stats to improve, just powers and skills to unlock, as well as cosmetics. It's pretty fun, but don't pay full price, it's on sale almost constantly.

I really didn't like the way NU Gauntlets levels were. Maybe I was spoiled by Dark Legacy but the soundtrack and level designs were just so dull I was fucking bored out of my gourd by the time I beat the mummy levels.

Also the Cemetary had the best soundtrack of all the realms. Just saying.

Legends/Dark Legacy had the charm of taking you to all these settings with the fantasy factor cranked up to 11: Forsaken Providence was a 2spooky4e ghost town with a western vibe filled with undead, Dream World was madness incarnate, the Caste was intricate and it was the ultimate "fantasy medieval castle", etc.
These levels start took a basic trope of fantasy settings (barbarian mountain, magical forest, etc.), and worked from there to have their own unique feel, none of the 8 realms felt dull or uninspired, and the soundtrack made things even better

I finally found the lone saving grace of the PS1 version. The soundtrack. Jesus it's way better than the N64. Shame it's kneecapped with smaller maps, two player, and garbage framerate.

It really is. N64 versin was the best version of Legends overall, Dreamcast was a straight Arcade port, Dark Legacy was an expansion/revamp of the original with eight more characters and more places to go.

Emulate DL via Dolphin. There really is no way to really emulate the N64 version, that game made the N64 do crazy shit like disable the disgusting vaseline filter.

I heard Dreamcast had some Dark Legacy stuff put into it. Not sure which content though.
