Still, it depends on what Sega is ultimately going to be going for with this. I honestly don't know. On one hand, given claims from other devs about preteens brought in as "test audiences" for various games, and complaining about anything colorful, cartoony, and/or humorous being shit they wouldn't be caught playing (IE: "I only play mature games for mature gamers, such as myself" mindset), and that it seems more like stuff aimed at their younger siblings, I'd kind of doubt it. On the other hand, I know Pokemon and Skylanders have remained popular in spite of that, so maybe? I can't claim to really know what kids these days like vidyawise really, as I don't have contact with any.

I still love the classics tbh, and have a lot of nostalgia for the character. People actually liking the newer ones is sort of unfathomable to me and legitimately seems to be a sign of mental issues.

I get people thinking the Boost games are lacking compared to Classic. To be fair I thought they were an improvement to the 3D games that were just boring combat platforms and then a technical cutscene where you had to touch a boost pad just to advance (Shadow and 06) through a loop. I like Sonic. Granted, I'm autistic. I find something about super speed characters appealing to begin with, and Sonic is a well-designed character (and no, you don't have to be a fucking furfag to think that). Plus, I like both the "cute but determined" classic depiction of the character, and the modern "chilled out dudebro" depiction as portrayed by Roger Craig Smith (I understand most people find the writing in the RCS-era Sonic games to be really shallow and unfunny, but I really like that they don't take themselves seriously, and seem to be perfectly happy with poking fun at themselves).

Where the games fall apart is the actual gameplay. Usually it's fine enough, but by no means a masterpiece. Often though, it's either a broken mess, or just really annoying and/or gimmicky. I can't tell you how many times Sonic did something I didn't want him to do, or didn't do something I did want him to do in Lost World, because of the damn parkour system. There are so many other games that do parkour so well, and the classic Sonic games were basically completely centered around momentum-based parkour. How do you fuck it up so badly?

The world is constantly resetting and has alternate realities because said god has all the power and is literally a little girl who bitches all the time and wants everything to go her way. Terumi lives through hundreds of thousands of these cycles and remembers everything, unlike most of the characters.
He constantly breaks free of his prison every cycle and, jumping through the plot, gets Hazama as a body. They're both smug, evil little shits and are eventually separated by force. Hazama goes on to do other shit for fun while Terumi does favors for the god of death, Izanami Haha Jap shit, who could've seen that coming? He betrays her and gets his body back from the guy wearing it, who happens to be a fag that loves his own brother. He's really doing the world a favor by killing these characters.

Now with his shit back together, he wants to kill the little girl cunt god known as Amaterasu Japs are so fucking original and get the Azure. Doing this will finally stop the world from constantly resetting and everyone can continue living their lives. His trailer is done in a 2000's crawling in my skin AMV fashion, his design is as edgy as they can take it, it's likely that the guy's the dark version of your own OC since he's wearing a mask, is literally faster and stronger then Sonic when no one was, has every villain in the fucking series at his beck and call, and generally fucks the story up so much that Sonic needs a fucking army to back him up.

An army of OCs, which is common in shitty fanfiction stories where the Donut Steel OCs get so much attention that they frequently eclipse the actual main characters.

Sonic Team can only ruin Sonic Forces if they won't go all the way in. Basically if they will handle the story like they did with generations, colors and lost world (boring, bland and simple), then whole ruse cruise is over before it was even started. Infinite just gets defeated, no backstory, no twist, no more edge, nothing.
But if they will handle the story in style of adventure 1 and 2 it has a chance to be really good.
This game really depends on them changing the story writing. That's aside of promise of more complicated levels than the ones we've seen already.

Although the example of them slowing down was given already in the fact of your OC's not allowed to be "cooler than sonic". So i'l wait before judging it fully. I just hope after forces and mania they will think about making mainliner like adventure 3 with chao garden. But that's just hopes, i'l probably die before that happens.

The reason being how he's often seen with tesseracts, and when we see him "dodge" Sonic, it lacks the emphasis that every other character moving has had.
We do see him slide, but it's very possible he just moved along the fourth dimension, to do it, based on how it looked.

This is of course, however, likely just giving the writers too much credit. And he probably is really just faster than Sonic, defeating the entire point of Sonic.

A 2D man could easily simulate a 3D object by imagining a crossection of it. For example, a sphere traveling through a 2D plane would appear as a circle that gradually gets bigger and then diminishes. The program he has shows you a 3D cross section of a 4D object using the same principle. The easiest way to imagine that would be to imagine the fourth dimension as time. Say there's a 4D hypersphere passing through our 3D. You'd simply see something analogous to what the 2D man saw, a sphere gradually getting bigger than then getting smaller. To imagine a 3D representation of that object you could simply take a "frame" from the "transformation" and that would be basically a 3D snapshot or part of the object. The object itself would be the entire "animation", from the sphere getting larger and then smaller.
It's hard but not impossible for people to grasp.

4D objects are easily simulated since we already exist in 4D, with the forth dimension being time. Nobody knows what a universe with four special dimensions would look like though.

Wrong. Dimensions are a purely mathematical system, and can easily be simulated with computers. Simulating 4D spaces and drawing 3D crossections of them is not even all that much harder than it is in 3D, although a lot of people rely on tools made by smarter people to do said 3D drawing and physics/collisions nowadays and likely wouldn't know how to set up said 4D methods.
Fun fact, for 3D rotations we generally use quaternions instead of XYZ angles to prevent gimbal locking. Quaternions are rather hard to understand, because they use imaginary numbers as a 4th dimension, rotate in 4D, then get interpreted a certain way as 3D results for us to work with again. They're used pretty much all the time in game development. The math for them was also made up by a mathematician who didn't even have computers yet (1843), and the exact idea for them came to him while crossing a bridge during a walk.

It just surprises me that Ohtani-san wrote it. It doesn't seem like his usual stuff. Or maybe I've just gotten used to post-Unleashed-era Sonic games having entirely orchestral and upbeat soundtracks.

It's because Sega cares about Sonic to some extent, but only to the extent of making money. They don't give enough of a shit to completely write their own new physics engine to mimic the classics, even though that was the whole draw back then. At least they got Taxman and Stealth, and a bunch of the autists who worked on Sonic 2 HD, to make Sonic Mania. You know the fans will treat it right, because Sonic autists have Sonic game design down to a science.

As for the 3D games though, it requires a different approach, and they've never really perfected it. Being able to see ahead of you could make for a really fun, intense, fast-paced speedrunning adventure, and truthfully, the controls in the modern Sonic games are pretty solid and fun. The level design is just boring, and the games are too buggy.

I wouldn't mind so much if Infinite were Sonic from the future, since I don't really have a problem with Sonic being faster than his own younger self, but that's probably not the case. Seeing how Infinite is a weird-looking mashup of several different characters, he's probably either your OC, or in some way related to your OC. Plus, I feel like the whole "super speed character in 2017 has an armored edgelord villain who is actually themselves from the future coming back to make their younger self pissed off enough to become them" thing has already been done this year.

Something just occurred to me. In Infinite's theme song video and in his trailer, there's visual effects all over the place. Plus, parts of the cutscene seem to be glitching, and Infinite himself seems to have flickering pixels around him.
I think it'd be cool if Infinite could fuck with the game itself while you're fighting him, like he's Psycho Mantis or something. Like he could do small shit like removing a wall but the barrier blocking you from passing is still there, to straight up removing your ring counter and crashing the game.

And Chaos glitching out is because he's translucent and Metal Sonic lands behind him. So as Metal Sonic's image is distorted by Chaos, Chaos' body looks like it's changing color since it's hard to see Metal Sonic landing.

Colors was good for writing, and Lost World gave Eggman decent writing for when he pretended to be allied with Sonic.

My problem with the writing in Sonic games ever since after 06 is the weight of the plot always feels weak.
Sonic Unleashed was about gods world end and rebuild the world but it failed to make me give a single shit.
Sonic Generations the time eater had no personality or motives and then oh it was Eggman the whole time.
Sonic lost world all of the deadly six were bland and until i thought about it just now i completely for got about that machine that was draining the life of the plant.
I can't speak for colors since I haven't beat it yet.
