Yeah, sucking ass in the beginning is always a DoW tradition at this point, compared to when dow 2 was released dow 3 is actually stable and playable. When expansions come and it gets maybe 6-7 races then people tend to warm up to them.

DoW 3 is an unholy abomination of an idea and in execution, they couldn't put the ASSFAGGOTS bullshit in a seperate mode while still retaining DoW 2's customization and cover system and DoW 1 massive armies and base-building, Total Warhammer is same shit as their last games, but executed in a way you didn't alienate the old and new players.

If any factions should be DLC it should be factions like Norsca, ones that don't even have an army book.

The contemptuous attitudes of the Devs during the early showcases revealed they had their minds made up in what "design choices" they were going with, despite overwhelming criticism from the core fans. This isn't so much about the game being broken as it is a pure hatefest towards Relic which should never have pushed forward with certain "choices" with such overwhelming feedback. There is no "Fix", the whole game is broken by the mere existence. People will not forgive Relic for pandering to casuals and changing up the formula(DOW1) which many fans demanded a return to.

Conclusion is that DOW3 will never get it's second breath on principle that the core fans hate relic and the DOW3 for what it represents(The betrayal).

SEGA needs to force Relic to make a very clear public apology and then instruct them to make DOW4 without the MOBA nonsense, DOW3 is the biggest spit in the face. Tear that turd down and retcon the shit out of it.

What makes it worse is the fact that relic were the ones that first said that dow3 was a return to format, a comeback of the things that made dow great, the way it should have been with more mixed as a sequel, and what do we get? A dumbed down """""strategy""""" game with useless mooks for units that might as well be creeps/minions and an extremely overbearing importance placed on elite units and the hero of each faction, complete with the removal of certain features that made the original dow great and maps that are literally reskins of moba game maps.

In a design choice that I can see as being nothing but pure contempt for the RTS genre, not only does the thing play like a generic moba game with a little more micro, the thing is practically railroaded: it has anti-rushing features thanks to the fixed towers and shield, and the escalating tiers placed behind pseudo-timers ensure that the game gets impatient with you and sort of goes "there you go, everything's at your disposal, now finish this shit quickly ok?", strategic depth is nowhere to be found since the baseline condition for victories and defeats is the answer to the question "does my army outblob my enemy's blob army?" and if the answer is yes, you win, no skill involved, no tactical awareness, no overarching strategy, just lolrolling an army on the moba map to kill the enemy nexus, what a wonderful """""RTS""""".

It's painfully clear that relic not only neglected the strategic play, but it wasn't done out of some sort of experimentation with the conventions of the genre or taking design chances, it was nothing but pure fad chasing in the hopes of appealing to a mass audience and creating a streamer economy for the casuals, a complete slap in the face to every fan of the saga. What's funny to me is that, when Amplitude (also owned by sega) fucked up Endless Space 2 during a patching cycle, they went back and publicly apologized to everyone for their mistakes completely out of their own will yet in spite of the feedback and clearly aware of the dissidence, relic just goes "lmao here have some skins lel" instead of actually fixing the fucking game to stop being moba trash.

I know, right? They should have just admitted the truth: Naval combat is shit, will always be shit and should never come back. I'll never understand why people were mad about its removal.

Multiplayer for all the Dawn of War games that used Gamespy or GFWL was switched over to Steam servers awhile ago. Not a perfect solution but it's better than nothing at all.
