Use Luma3DS as your emunand loader and there shouldn't be a problem in updating to 11.4 on emunand if I'm remembering right. Just always do it through system settings and double-check the advice I just gave you.

The 8.x versions of Luma only work with B9S, nothing else. Manually download the version before and copy that in if you don't want to switch hacks, which is fair enough at the moment since there's some issues with B9S despite how heavily they're pushing it.

So I'm trying to redirect the freeshop fork's autoupdate to the new .gq site. The old link had the .com/downloadenc, but changing the new one to .gq/downloadenc doesn't work and neither does scanning the QR code. Is there an extra step that I'm missing? The fork is at version 3.1.2, so it looks like it's up to date.

There's REALLY nothing wrong with B9S. Some people report slightly longer boot times but it's fine for me. The reason the latest Luma needs it is because instead of a simple patch-hack Luma has a menu directly accessible from the home menu in addition to a native .3dsx loader now

That said there's really no going back to A9LH from B9S (supposedly you can with a full FIRM backup+restore but that's a risky process) so if you really don't care about native .3dsx loading or the technical side of things (B9S has some benefits technically but there's nothing to show for it as of yet until true CFW becomes a thing) then there's no reason to switch

I upgraded from RXtools to A9LH, and it was worth it just for the faster boot and getting rid of emunand. Dunno about the new hack.

How so? It's been asking me to update for a while, and I've been afraid it'll mess something up so I always decline.

If you're fine with emunand, change to Luma3DS because newer firmwares are unsupported by older loaders such as RxTools. If you want an upgrade move to B9S since I wouldn't know where to begin with finding all of A9LH's old materials.

If you follow the guide on 3ds.guide/ then you should be good to go. It instructs you to install something called Boot9Strap that patches the Boot9 section of the FIRM directlyon SYSNAND. Nintendo can never patch this because B9S/Luma puts the FIRM in readonly mode when updating. It basically replaces the code in the bootloader that tells the 3DS to look for the OS entrypoint from the FIRM and instead looks for it either on the SD card root or inside of CTRNAND if there is no SD inserted

Before B9S there was A9LH that was similar but patched the ARM9Loader instead of Boot9. A lot of people insist that A9LH is superior at the moment because it's a lot more mature and people report slower boot times on B9S. The guide tells you to install B9S however so it may be easier to tell you to do that

Regardless if you chose A9LH or B9S, its safe to say either one is far superior to the classic RxTools/Menuhax approach for a lot of reasons

Luma puts FIRM into read-only mode. FIRM is where both Boot9 and the ARM9Loader are stored. Nintendo tries patching FIRM during the update process but again, Luma has it set to read-only. That said if you use a payload other than Luma as the OS entrypoint it's no guarantee FIRM is protected. That's why Luma is always recommended

Every version of Luma with an A9LH payload will protect the FIRM. The Luma dev worked with the A9LH/B9S devs so it's fairly trustworthy and why Luma was always recommended as the "default"

Yes, it's not legitimate and will not carry over in a system transfer.
Unsigned software is not carried over in a system transfer, so anything you didn't buy from Nintendo. Since it relies on the software and a save-game carrying over, you can't use pirated software.

Literally all Freeshop does is provide the framework for people to use an arbitrary titlekey list to retrieve games from Nintendo's servers. The games themselves still came from Nintendo. The way it works is Nintendo only allows clients to access their download servers provided the client submis a valid titlekey. Freeshop just automates this process.

I'm trying to install CFW on my N2DSXL, but I seem to have run into a problem.

On the guide 3ds.guide/installing-boot9strap-(dsiware-game-injection) it says to install boot9strap. I launch it via the dsiware game, and install it, but when I restart my 2ds as the guide says, it doesn't boot into Luma.

What am i doing wrong? Am I missing a file? Is this step necessary, or should I just continue?

From what I've been reading, it seems that the latest version of Freeshop doesn't fetch the Seed file for game decryption, so it throws an error at you with every game you install upon starting. Is there somebody with A9lh willing to try it?

The exception happens because Luma 8 has the crash-handler enabled by default. His Smash is most likely crashing for a completely different reason and retards just freak out because they see a bunch of hex on-screen and think "Duhhhh herrr ooga booga must be B9S fault!"

Alright so I tested this game downloaded from the newest version of Freeshop with A9LH.

It doesn't give me an error like that, but it does stay frozen at the black and red screen that says "Nintendo 3DS" that pops up when you launch a game.

The game is crashing regardless. The only reason you see the error on B9S is because Luma 8 has the crash handler enabled by default. Something else is obviously wrong

I've been waiting for Digimon World Re: Digitize Decode, myself. I guess it's mostly because the people who upload titlekeys don't care about every single Japanese exclusive game, or Decode isn't out on the eShop.

GBA loading is almost perfect with VC injects, NDS loading is shit unless you have a flshcart.

It seems that Arc13's Freeshop 3.1.3 version fucked up by not getting the seed files of the games it downloaded, so every single one of them crashed un startup. It wasn't a Boot9Strap thing at least.

It was updated recently (3.1.4 I think) and the problem is now solved. I'm gonna play some Cursed FUCKING Castilla now.

You'd have to be clinically braindead to lock yourself out of emunand. Hell, once you're in the only way to get kicked out of it is System Settings, shutting off the system, or accepting an auto-update prompt, all of which are things you should know going in and would know if you've been using it for some time. I don't know why people pretend it's some great trial or the tiniest slipup will fuck you now and forever when really if you're not stupid enough to brick A9LH then you won't be stupid enough to render an emunand unuseable or lose access to it.

I installed the latest Freeshop in a friend's 3DS (first model, 11.2 firmware, A9lh) and it worked without issue

the tickets aren't valid with signature patches on. When you buy from eshop they assign console-specific sigs and with freeshop it just forges a blank one.

Can I still safely do a system update to the newest version even though my Luma3DS is several versions old, or do I need to manually update Luma3DS to the most recent non-B9S version?

The guide was easy as fuck to follow when I did it for A9LH, haven't tried B9S version though. On A9LH you don't need to really worry about updating much of the time, only time I had to update was really easy to figure out too.

As for the vita it's fucking great as an overall handheld. I got mine for less than 100 € and i can play every console (aside ds) on the go. But yeah, as for games it doesn't have much if you hate japanese titles. Oh, naturally a lot of games are ports or ended up ported, but for 99 € it's a bretty good deal. Modding it's a joke, but you need to be on 3.60 or lower, so check that before buying.

Seconding Gundam Breaker, not just 3 but the whole series is great. Heard good things about Dragon's Crown and Odin Sphere, and if you like those the Muramasa remake will probably be up your alley too. Adding on Super Robot Wars V and the Z3 duology, as well as Coven and Labyrinth of Refrain.

Maybe sharping a toothpick into a flathead could work too, but I'm just throwing that out there. Haven't tried it myself.
