Honestly, I feel like Toei Sonic is the best sonic, all they had to do was take that and make him a bit bigger.

That's the Ironic part, the games were better, but the music and writing suffered as a result.

The ones which moulded the attitude of the character were the dudes who made the first cartoon. Prior to that, the most you knew about the character was that he would get mad at you for being inactive.

The problem with Sonic as a character is the fact that Sonic Team keeps changing and watering down his personality to whatever they feel is cool and/or appealing to their audience. He was originally an edgy loner with a love for running and nature. He didn't care gor Amy and he only let Tails tag along because he could pull his own weight. In the Adventure titles they gave him a "radical" extreme sports/surfer dude type personality and toned down the edginess. During the 2000s he was kind of just a generic shonen hero and now he's an even happier shonen hero with more wisecracks.

Worst of all is that in Generations, Sonic Team clearly forgot how Classic Sonic originally was, because now he just acts like a classic disney character from the 30s.

I loved Metal Sonic. My true autism sprite Microsoft pain editing Sonic phase was centered entirely around metal sonic.

I fucking hated heroes for what they did to him and every sonic after for trivializing his character in favor of Shadow, whom I also liked, but certainly didn't feel deserved the spotlight.

Metal sonic was supposed to be Sonic's prime rival, dedicated to his destruction so he could move on to other pursuits, always limited by his frame and craftsmanship at Robotnicks hand, whom, took Sonic 2, and 3 to work up to him in sonic 3D, with the like of Silver and Mecha sonic being, essentially prototypes leading up to Metal Sonic's creation.

When I saw hes design in heroes, I though we we're going to have a kickass super highway speed battle, but instead, he turns into a giant flabberjaster monster.

I loved that old bit off fluff where he hangs out in a recreation area in the Death Egg's eye with Metal Knuckles to boot, waiting for Robotnik to actually consider using him due to prior rebellious streak

I liked Sonic as a character before, but at some point after heroes he started the metamorphosis into NuSonic, making that transformation into an unbearable little shit in Sonic Colours.
Pretty much all the characters made that transition at some point, becoming completely boring 1Dimensional archtypes that may not have even relate to who they were before. Like Knuckles becoming idiotic comic relief, or very early on Shadow becoming an edge lord.
It wasn't enough for Sonic Team to to fuck up the games time and time again, they had to fuck up the characterization too. How soon until the music follows?

Blaze got beyond shafted. They completely ignored her lore to shove her into Sonic 06, and even though that piece of shit erased itself from history it still taints her portrayal in fan art.
Even Sonic Rush Adventure fucked her over. Rush had built up a bond between Sanic and Blaze, forcibly pulling them apart from each other, and then he just fucking accidentally ends up in her world and neither of them really freak out or connect as they should in the moment or throughout the game. It's like they didn't want Blaze to be a part of it in the first place, but since it was a Rush game they "had" to. Sonic may as well have just washed up on an island in his own world and met Marine, focusing on developing her character.

Not really, Sonic always looked like the sort of character designed by a committee to be as appealing to the mass market as possible. The same sins as today but because it's nostalgia Sega did nothing wrong.

I liked the gruff loner personality a lot better than the idiot meathead thing he's got going on now. But now Sonic's got a ton of "I'm just as tough as Sonic except I'm edgy" rivals and they're all WAY edgier than Knuckles so it's hard to keep the "loner" thing going when he's mostly Sonic's friend these days. Knuckles always was my favourite character and since I had the UK comics instead of the Archie ones I never had to deal with the really awful Penders echidna shit. He's a great character in TgT as well.

Hopefully they'll never go as far as Boom Knuckles in the actual games.

I'm okay with it, it's basically regular metal Sonic merged with living metal, and it was a good way for him to update his design in tune with post-classic sonic's design for what I presumed was going to be a good fight in heroes.

And then Flabberjaster monster and and what I'm made of plays and I don't get the 4th Chaos emerald because it's impossible to get in Sonic Heroes on the Ps2 and I lost all interest in beating the game at that point because I wasn't going to get to race him anyway.

Also, that design is totally fit for DIO poses.

I think one of the first times Super Sonic went out of control the gang had to get Knuckles to fight him. It's actually game canon since Knuckles does punch Super Sonic right back into regular Sonic at the start of Sonic 3.

I don't blame you. I hate this game's gameplay but the writing really fleshed out Sonic. Around the Adventure era/ Dark Age era, Sonic was written to be earnest about his freedom and does whatever he wants, but always acts as the hero not because of "great power comes great responsbility" but because he feels it's just the right thing to do. And also that he really hates oppression, not just to himself but towards anyone. He'll be the hero but will refuse to devote himself to an alignment because again he just loves to be his own guy. In this game, he was told to kill a corrupted King Arthur but characters keep telling him that he'll be branded a pariah for killing someone like Arthur despite him turning evil. Sonic just goes "lol I don't care if people hate me, as long as I'll save people that'll be fine by me." He's like that anti-hero that doesn't care what others think about him, but doesn't act edgy or serious. Like Saitama or Spider Man.

It's not so much as they forgot him, it's more along the lines that Mecha got blown up for good.

The first fight with him in the Sonic storyline damages him, then when the Mecha Eggman takes over in Robotnik's absence does he get partially repaired and have a power unlock. The final fight with Knuckles destroys him for good because he was already unstable and with no Robotnik there to recover the bot like the current one we have, it's just going to stay dead.

I don't care about his personality. Really, as far as the older games go, he doesn't have one. Mario is no different.

I think he looks cool enough, though, but I also prefer Tails. And as far as gameplay goes, Knuckles might be my favorite. I really like the gliding and climbing mechanics. It does make things easier, though, so I guess it would be better to make some games just for him.

I feel like everything started to go downhill after Adventure 2, especially the models. I've never liked modern Sonic's design compared to classic Sonic's, but recently modern Sonic has been looking pretty shitty.

As for characters, I feel like the sonic series just suffers from having too many. If they cut back on making new characters and focused on developing the more important ones (like Tails, Knuckles, etc.) things might be a bit better.

I really like his character, but I'm kind of talking about the Sonic from the Adventure series. He was at his best there and even had his own theme song as to clue you in into who he really was. The SA1 theme starts out with a rough and gritty punk-y sound and then shifts to sound heroic once the heroism in the song starts to show.

I like a lot of the Sonic characters, but I've always thought Sonic himself was fucking cool. It's a shame they're just making him some egotistical washed-up fuck now, but I'm hoping Forces will change that.

That dub for the OVA/"The Movie" is pretty damn awful. The VHS/DVD is way OOP and ADV's pretty much defunct.

I would love to see a company bring it out again cleaned up/remastered a bit and using the current voice cast, but that seems like a overly costly pipe dream. The big question would be if they'd keep some of the more infamous lines or fix them to be closer to what the lines were supposed to be (such as the "Strange, isn't it?" part)

Evil race of plants decided that all animals are degenerates and the best way to keep the universe stable is to kill all animals. To do that they need Planet Eggs (cristalization of planet's life force) and Chaos Emeralds. When they got all that shit they turned into some kind of an orb and started growing trees on all planets. But Sonic and Co. fucked their shit up. So they thought that if they can't grow trees they they'll just start compressing all the Planet Eggs inside and destroy the universe with a gravitational jihad while sucking the life force of all things in near them. Since Cosmos is the same race as they are, it doesn't affect her. She decides to stop the jihad by instantly maturing (growing tits) and turning into a giant tree that holds the ord with the roots. Now Sonic and Co. have to shoot in that thing killing Cosmo in the process. Oh, and yeah, Tails is in love with her.

While disparate, the worlds in Jazz Jackrabbit did lend themselves quite well to gameplay, all with their own mood. The music played off of whatever atmosphere the staging had set as well. Fuckin' Alexander Brandon, man.
Cool choices of vibrant and colder colors for the most part, if gimmicky at times. Even the Christmas edition and expansion pack were alright. A few worlds stood out as not quite being to the same standard in the second game, but they did at least add more variety.

But the best JJ game did have a very consistent world worth exploring in detail.

It's a bit iffy. I thought Omega worked better less as a sociopathic robot and more like Bladewolf in being a comically serious robot. Better yet, a comically serious robot but gets triggered into a sociopathic state when facing off against the Eggman robots that replaced him.
