Is there any way to make the AI to occupy smarts more aggressively? Usually they just ignore the "terrain" types, for example which just makes it too easy for me to expand my own faction. I'd also like to make the Monolith faction more menacing but I find the Warfare Options a bit too confusing. I tried one of those default options and Monolith got completely wrecked by the fucking Ecologists out of all factions.

You will make back the cash you dropped on the kit and make a nice profit as long as you aren't wasting kits on AKs and pistols.

Also, selling ammo is profitable enough and most merchants buy all ammo types.

However, I got too used to find the Seva the best suit meanwhile in CoC it only has 4 artifact slots and no upgrade for weight (if you choose artifacts).

Psuedogiants in CoC are great for farming money. Their body parts sell for over 20k each and they are completely harmless in semi-open areas. All it takes is about 14 shotgun blasts to kill one and they have absolutely no chance of catching you.

Note that to get the most out of mutant parts it matters a great deal where you sell them. Ecologist bunkers almost always have the best prices for them, and prices are generally better the further north you go as well.

Don't ignore CS. It is indeed the worst and has a lot of flaws, many shit things.
However Clear Sky has really good areas like the Swamp, Red Forest, Limansk and abandoned Hospital.

The strange thing is that I made several back ups of CoC, for testing for crashes with various mods and in everyone of them, I had SweetFX installed. Everyone of the worked, except for this one.

I tried playing Clear Sky twice, I got massively butthurt at faction quest bugs each time. Decided to never come back.

Accuracy is completely untouched by difficulty.
Now that's where things get interesting. That does exist, but only for bullets fired at the player. Inside actor.ltx that's the hit_probability section, and what that does is take bullets that actually intersect with your hitbox (hit you), does a dice roll based on your hit_probability (0.20 on Novice so an 80% chance to delete bullets, and 0.50 on Master for a 50% chance to delete bullets), and either allows it to damage you, or just eats it. This does not affect the player's bullets at all.

What you're running into that makes enemies feel extra damage spongy is a variety of things. First and foremost, the 30% damage reduction on weapons by going from Novice to Master obviously increases their effective HP by about 1/3, which is rough. There's also time_to_aim which is found in most weapons, and provides a massive damage reduction to each hitbox you damage for the duration of TTA to the tune of ~75%. So let's say we're using the AK74 which has a TTA of 1, and on Master, a hit_power value of 0.35 (this is also modified by ammo, armor, and the hitbox damage multiplier but we'll cut that out to simplify it). I quickly fire 3 shots into the enemy's chest, the first shot dealing the full 0.35, and the second two are going to deal about 0.09 damage each, for a combined total of 0.53. Or I wait 1 second after each shot, and deal 1.05 damage, roughly double. Combine that with the fact that early-game weapons are supremely inaccurate, so you're more likely to go for torso hits instead of headshots, and this is why shit can feel very damage spongy early on.

Shotguns have a TTA of 0, which is one of the reasons why they do obscene damage and are good the entire way through the game.

Do note that the weapon damage thing is only the case with SoC. CS and CoP have flat weapon damage across all difficulties, so the only thing that difficulty changes in those two games is the player's base damage resistance, and their hit_probability.

Like 0.1, 0.1, 2.0, 0.1 would make the weapon probably one-shot most things on Stalker difficulty, while doing effectively no damage on every other difficulty.

It gives enemies more effective health in SoC, due to weapon damage being globally lowered. SoC and CS largely shared maps anyway and all three used parts of the real zone moved around a bit so it was fairly simple to stitch them together in a reasonable fashion. CoC actually even re-added a few cut maps.

CoP is the third game in the series, heavily story focused. CoC is a large mod that combines all of maps from all three games, but only has a barebones "story", if you can even call it that. The primary draw of CoC is that it's one of the best sandbox experiences to date, especially modded.

You don't need to install CS for CoC. You technically don't even need CoP for CoC, it's completely standalone in terms of its data but it requires CoP probably due to legal things.

The only thing you really need for Clear Sky is the latest version of SRP. It's also the only game where the point of 'play the game vanilla first' doesn't really apply because it's by far the most buggy and broken of all the games and you're most likely going to have a bad time without that unofficial patch.

After I beat SoC I jumped straight into CoC. Am I missing out on the story of any of the other two games?
I didn't really like SoC's story, I thought the setting was way more interesting than Strelok's story

You don't need to install anything other than CoC for CoC. It does a registry check to see if you've ever installed CoP, but you can just add -skip_reg to the target line, and you're good to go. As for CS mods, I'm a big fan of the AO+SRP merge, personally.

Anyone had Clear Sky crash on startup? Splash screen opens and the game window pops up behind it but doesn't expand, from there nothing happens. There's no information in the logs for me to work with and this happened both before and after I installed SRP, I'd thought it might be DX10 and hoped the DX10 fix might solve the problem but no such luck.

The guy probably used a mega link which (((steam))) filters to {Link Removed}, but you shouldn't have too many problems tracking down a DX installer to see if that fixes it. I recall seeing someone who had a problem with Win10 not having the DirectX dlls in system32 by default.

If it's the DX issue, you'd probably need one of the older installers to put the files in the "wrong" location in 10 (but right for older games) to make it work.

Fired up my CS ISO and ripped the DX Redist folder from it like that guy on the Steam forums did. Give this one last try and see if it works.

You sort of need the dice roll dodge chance unless you buff the player's base resistances to compensate (I actually have that as an optional in my AMK AE 1.4.1 tweak pack on the repo), because that's really the only thing that's stopping you from getting one-shot from enemies wielding shotguns. As for recommended SoC mods, AMK AE 1.4.1 and AA 2.1 are both great.

First, download notepad++ which is way the fuck more functional than regular notepad, since you can just mass find+replace in every weapon file and knock that shit out in seconds. Second, yes, removing TTA will largely remove enemies feeling spongy. You won't quite have a milsim-tier damage profile (you'll need some light tweak mods for that), but it should feel great compared to vanilla.

Well after giving up on SC I installed CoP and i'm pretty confused, SoC looked pretty great, it wasn't mind blowing but I never noticed any really jarring visual stuff ups besides one floating tree. However even after setting visuals to max and maxing out draw distance, CoP looks awful, vegetation just looks plain bad and its draw distance is about 20 feet, beyond which there are muddy low-def textures that just look terrible. Is there a graphical fix mod or something? I'll perservere a bit if I'm stuck with it being this ugly but so far I'm not enjoying it as much as SoC, might just end up moving right to CoC.

To locate the real names of the unique weapons, check st_items_weapons.xml in configs/text/eng. So if you wanted to find what the Bushmaster M4 was actually called, you'd search that name, and you'll find the ID which you can then search the configs/weapons with to find the exact location. In this case, we find that it's actually located in w_lr300.ltx as a unique LR-300 variant.

Holy fuck the amount of fucking freedom I had to kill to move duty up to their base in clear sky was crazy. I killed more freedom than any enemy in all of the stalker series. They kept spawning and spawning and spawning while Duty slowly sent 1 squad all the way from one side of the zone to the other. This was how many dead freedoms the game lets be on screen since it started despawning the dead bodies. And sure enough the second you leave the base after you get a congratulations of taking the base, Freedom spawns a fuck load of squads to repopulate the base and retake it. It's almost not worth it for how stupid this never-ending tug of war was. I noticed that the less positions freedom or duty has, the more squads they spawn to retake those positions they lost. Which is why when Freedom looses all 5 of their bases they spawn 5 squads while duty only spawns 1 since there's only 1 base left for them to take.

Clear Sky with an AUG, what mod fag? Also yeh, that's a common problem with taking bases in the CS faction war: they always get repopulated.

I really wish the faction wars in Stalker focused less on attrition. Could you imagine a faction war where you're actually a faction of what, a few hundred out of the ~1000 people total in the Zone? Where losing a squad is a major setback in manpower?
I don't know, the idea of small 3-5 man squads going back and forth seems like a cooler idea than one man walking into the base and mowing down 50 dudes all walking out of the same doorway.
Actually, playing CoC with one or two AI buddies and a patrol load of gear (rifle with 300 rounds and sidearm, food, meds, artifacts and that's it) and having to get from say, Warehouses to Cordon while sneaking past everything and managing supplies was way more fun than actually fighting the faction wars. Usually my character would end up limping back to base with a broken rifle, half a mag of ammo, bleeding and irradiated, either carrying along my AI companion in the same condition or carrying his faction patch.

If you're a fan of anything other than (CURRENT YEAR+2) AAA shit, you're going to need to run a multi-monitor setup if you want 4K, while being able to properly play older games. Also the performance requirements from 1080p to 4K is insane, while the visual difference is fractional, so you need to be ready to "invest" in a GTX 1080, and probably a second one down the line, if you want those high/ultra settings at a non-shit framerate (and then you have to hope it has proper SLI support).

To put it in car terms, 1080p is the 2015 MX-5, and 4K is the 2017 MX-5, except it guzzles gas twice as fast. If you absolutely have to have the newest thing, regardless of price vs performance, go for it. If that sounds ridiculous to you, invest instead in a high refresh rate, low latency 1080p monitor which will offer far better returns.

If anything you can future proof and display/render a smaller res while waiting for more capable hardware.

Some TVs have a "video game" mode in the settings that may or may not make the response time better.

How do you get rid of the stagger invincibility again? It happens when you hit an enemy and it triggers an animation of "getting hurt" and they're invincible for about half the animation?

There is no stagger invincibility. That rumor came from people not understanding that time_to_aim was a thing, and how that functioned, so you'd have people spray a bunch of rounds into an enemy's chest/arms, he would take a fraction of the damage due to time_to_aim, but would also play the 'wound' animation, and so they thought that there was some kind of iframe shenanigans going on.

What's happening is that you're shooting them in one of their hitboxes that has an extremely low damage multiplier. Here's the hitbox damage multipliers for human NPCs in the AO+SRP merge you're playing. 0.3 means 30% damage, 0.05 means 5% damage, etc.

The most common enemy pose will be them aiming their weapon at you, meaning their arms are obscuring their chest, and their hand takes 5% damage, and their forearms take 10% damage, so if you just go for center mass shots, you're going to run into the 'kevlar arms' problem where they can soak an obscene amount of damage, even with TTA disabled. I always tweak the hitbox multipliers to give it a more realistic damage profile, but if you don't want to do that, stick to headshots, or shoot them in the stomach/pelvis so their arms don't get in the way, since that has the same damage multiplier as proper torso hits.

That's generally the case with early guns but are you making sure to use low crouch and aiming down the sights? The Makarov is never going to be amazing but that will seriously improve its usefulness. Also better ammo is more accurate.

Just get all that shit and then run up to the tracks from the left side, shoot them down from ontop of the concrete supports so you have a nice amount of cover atleast if you dont let them spread out too much and can easily pop out for headshots / chuck down a pretty accurate grenade.

I think your vision occasionally goes blurry if you're sleep deprived but I'm not 100% sure.

If you're a new player using something like the Makarov then yes, expect a lot of inaccuracy. Use low crouch and a shotgun with slugs or an AK74u and you should be able to pick them off from an ambush. If not just avoid them/pay them off, I don't think the game forces you to fight military fags until after the Underground and you should have some good equipment by then.

Neither rank nor difficulty affect player accuracy, it's just that unfortunately, SoC has this rather RPG-esque weapon progression system where the early game weapons are extremely inaccurate to the point of semi-uselessness. I understand why they did what they did, since they wanted you scavenging better types of weapons as another layer of character progression, but it's still obnoxious when guns that should be ~3MOA are 100+MOA.

Go Merc and enjoy the chaos of reigning from the most exciting faction HQ in the entire zone, with constant bandit vs milfag vs monscum vs mutant combat right at your door, as well as Red Forest being right next door which is even more chaotic, fun (and highly profitable for looting).

Click on random you wuss and accept the outcome except if it's Loner/Ecologist cause it's the most boring faction due to being neutral to almost everything.

Try engaging at close range unless you have a lot of ammo to spare. Headshots will help you conserve ammo a LOT. The enemy has the advantage in long range shootouts unless you're carrying a sniper rifle, so don't be afraid to get in their faces and fill them with lead.
Again, you should avoid military. You may think you're missing a lot but they could just be shrugging off your bullets with their body armour. Engage with armour piercing rounds/slugs or not at all.

Go Merc, Bandit, Monolith or Clear Sky. CS is hostile to freedom so you have a few more areas to go to if you're itching for a fight. If you don't pick mercs you have shit taste.

Living Zone sounds good, I might use that and tweak faction relations slightly so that there's more fighting (I can probably figure out how to do this somewhere but if anyone can just tell me quick that's be good). I'll try out the HUD too.

Just install Absolute Nature and Atmosphear, AN for CoP is gorgeous, I wish there was something that good for CoC.

CoC already looks pretty good by default, so it's a small difference and mostly just nicer textures and plants vs CoP which looks fucking terrible by default where AN makes an incredible difference.

STCOP adds half decent ones and half weird ones
OWR turns vanilla into great ones but no new weapons.

There's no emphatic proper one.
-AO is mostly well organized but don't expect good sounds or mechanics.
-STCOP is like 2 mods combined since some of the guns are good and have good mechanics while others act like they're from AO.
-OWR is the best fine tuned one with the best sound and mechanics but the lack of variety to some factions is odd. like freedom not having a NATO dmr/sniper rifle. And there's no bolt action in vanilla.

I would say if OWR (hypothetically) added these with their craftsmanship it would be perfect
-1 NATO DMR like an SR-25 or PSG1
-1 bolt action like the SV-98 (maybe also the nugget but that might be too many)
-1 machine pistol like the APS or OTs-33
-2 10mm pistols like the Delta Elite and glock 40 (10mm just makes so much sense in the zone)
-1 mag shotgun like the saiga or usas (or better yet just another load auto like a benille m4)
==get rid of the protecta== seriously though this shotgun is known for being a mess, it shouldn't be a high tier weapon

These are just to help balance everything out and make the zone feel much more complete.

The most important thing to take away from that (that I always forget to mention) is that condition affects accuracy, often to a noticeable amount.

Shit guys… I just finished recording the first chapter of "The Doomed City" like I promised, but the audio defaulted to my shitty webcam mic instead of the good one. That's an hour I'm not going to get back.

Should be able to turn it back on with ai_die_in_anomaly 1 in the console. I think it was disabled because the pathfinding still isn't very good as far as avoiding anomalies is concerned, and more often than not, they'd stroll right through them and eat shit.

CTRL+P > Devices > and then set it to your proper mic under the Recording tab.

If you disable your laptop's mic through windows (and 100% if you disable it in device manager), it'll never pop back up as the default device, even if you unplug your proper mic and then plug it back in later, which is what I'm assuming happened.

I looked it up, and supposedly the ai didn't handle being presented with an enemy and a "no-go zone" such as an anomaly very well. So they just removed the ai pathfinding restrictions but then they would just casually stroll into anomalies so to fix that they just ended up making them immune to anomalies all to together.
Are they planning on fixing the ai for upcoming patches? I don't remember this ever being an issue in the main games.

I check the bitbucket every now and then to see if anything interesting pops up in the commits, but I've never seen anything about fixing the pathfinding.
In SoC, I don't think NPCs wander very much at all, and when they do, it's 100% scripted waypoints that avoid anomalies, and as AMK and AMK derivatives showed us with randomized anomaly placement, NPCs will follow their normal waypoint path straight into said randomized anomalies and die, even quest NPCs, which can require some alife switch distance fuckery to get around.

In CS, there's far more movement with the faction wars shit, but that's also scripted and waypoint based, and I imagine that the waypoints are specifically placed so that they go around anomalies, and with NPCs immune to radiation, stepping in a puddle isn't a death sentence.

CoP has lots of wandering NPCs, but I'm pretty sure human NPCs are immune to anomalies, or at least I've never seen one die to one.

I guess a compromise you could do is making it so that stalkers activating or "tripping" anomalies is chance based depending on their experience level. Rookies would have a very high likelihood of tripping anomalies when moving through them and master stalkers would have a very low risk of tripping anomalies when moving through them.
I wonder if a system like that would even be possible to set up tho

Found this in bind_anomaly_field.script in CoC, so if you start getting crazy framerate drops after trying ai_die_in_anomaly, that's what's causing it. Also that "will not be supported" line makes me think it might not be possible to fix the current AI's pathfinding.

Any suggestions for mods that make acquisition and maintenance of gear more complex/challenging? I manage to get fairly good stuff quickly and from there out it basically becomes Skyrim with guns. No reason to change gear and I can easily keep it maintained. I still have places to explore but after that I'm not really sure what I'll do.

Functionally just a hacked up Joint Pak 2, go play that instead if you want the ultimate soup experience, but be prepared for artificial slav difficulty. I have 200+ hours in a single playthrough and I'm still not even close to doing everything there is to do.

The meshes for the "world" models are too small. I think that was fixed in STCoP 2.9, and Darryl123 is working on the new version of STCoP for CoC (now called CWP) which should use those assets, but we're probably going to be waiting until CoC 1.5 to get it.

Consider checking out Call of Misery, which is the Misery port to CoC, and should provide a much better experience than standard Misery which is boring when limited to the shitty CoP maps.

Is there any reason as to why artefacts are so goddamn rare in CoC?
In all my combined playtime over all my characters I've only found a grand total of 3 artefacts out in the world. Is there a way to increase the chances of artefacts actually spawning?

When is 1.5 coming out?
