What the hell is the point in redoing this level again? This actually doesn't even look as good as the generations one. Also, Sonic Generations' 2d levels still control like shit.

If sonic works in 3d, there has never been any evidence of it. I was thinking the other day about what sort of game could support sonic in 3d. I came up with two ideas. The first is basically a racer like f-zero. The second involves massive open spaces, reactive environments and huge environmental puzzles that require use of speed and physics (you know - the whole point of the proper sonic games) to solve.

I seriously don't understand how people can enjoy the 3d games. They're basically on rails, but with tonnes of bugs (and that's not to mention all of the terrible additional characters and play-styles).

Sonic Mania is set to be literally the first good sonic game in 23 years. Shame it's mostly rehashed. Hopefully they make a sequel with only new levels.

Depends how you view 06, Unleashed, and the Storybook Games, because those were made without Iizuka's involvement for the most part. He was heavily responsible for Shadow's game, though.

What is it about Generations' 2D levels that are so much easier than the original games? I feel like I'm always rolling around in extra lives in Generations.

It's been about 14 years and I still haven't gotten any farther than Oil Ocean in Sonic 2. The only classic game I've beaten so far is CD, and that's only because the 2011 version let me restart Metallic Madness Act 3 from a save point over and over. Sonic the Fighters 2 when?

They are less complex, hold right to win applies far more to generations then to the original games. You can get lost in levels like Hydro city zone or Carnival night zone, but getting lost in Generations is pretty much impossible.
Games had to be harder back in the day so kids did breeze through them and complain they were too short.
Now they have the resources and man power to make games with far more content so making modern games difficult is unnecessary and almost counter productive.

Daily reminder that Sonic Heroes was a good game no matter how much certain modern e-celebs say otherwise.

It was the first really terrible Sonic game. The controls are total ass and there's a lot of stupid design decisions, like implementing combat and how the game handles switching grind rails.

Is that why the game sold seven million units?

Little kids in the 2000s would buy anything with Sonic's face on it.

Is that why it's levels have appeared in almost every single spin off game so far?

As someone who liked Adventure 1 & 2 or rather the good bits I wouldn't even be mad.

Original formula was never perfect, and it never improved. Generations is the closest we got- but they're still doing boost wrong. (IMO rather than something you build up and spend, it should be a meter you always have, but it refills slowly- meaning you have to choose when to boost for speedruns).

I think I even had more fun with the Advance/Rush games than Adventure.
Please bring back Adventure style chao garden.

The general dumbing down of the consumer (instant gratification and no game overs allowed), and how devs don't test their own games (so rather than having someone who knows their own game inside-and-out and accidentally making it harder as he gets better, you have a separate person test briefly).

It's because the levels have nice aesthetics, you mongrel. Sonic R was garbage but Sega still puts references to it in games because people remember the music.

An idea I had for boost was to make them more similar to racing games. Sonic gradually builds speed, like a car, and may even have a gear shift that you would have to use to switch between GO FAST mode and precision-platforming mode. Also, bring rolling and slopes back and allow the player to switch between rolling and running at will, like Green Hill Paradise and Sonic Utopia.

Died on the boss one or two times, and by that point I'd wasted all my continues. I probably should've prefaced my post like that'll change anything by saying that I haven't been tirelessly trying to beat the game for the last 14 years. When I was a kid I couldn't get past Chemical Plant, and when I tried again as a teenager I got to Hill Top. A few weeks ago I tried again and got to Oil Ocean.

Boost is more like nitro in racing games, except it's constantly fed to you. Also, the gear shift I had in mind would probably improve Sonic's handling so he can change direction and move left and right easier, like the Adventure games.

Looking at all the footage we have so far on Forces, it looks more like a copy of Lost World pretending to be Unleashed/Generations rather than a direct HD copy of Unleashed/Generations. And considering that you only have Sonic, Sonic and your OC to choose from really shows that the story in this game will be basic as fuck and nowhere near Adventures or Heroes in terms of having a wide cast of characters with truly distinct gameplays to play as or an interesting overarching story arc that connects together at the end. I hope I'm wrong and that DLC may remedy this, but fuck, it can't possibly be bad can it? I mean, I did hear that some at E3 criticized the OC's controls and jumping as being buggy, but it couldn't have been truly bad, could it?

Sonic unleashed project is sooo much fun! You go so damn fast, it feels like i'm speed running the game.

I loved the ps3 unleashed but it ran at awful framerate at times, but now that everything runs well i dosen't feel like i'm breaking the game when i boost through broken frams, i guess i got used to the awful performance.

Why wasn't Generations HD? And i really hope that's not the case, because lost world was slow.
