I played offline-mode just fine; the combat is solid and the weapon quick-switch was a welcome addition from PSO1. I'm willing to admit the characters are bland, the plot is unmemorable, the music isn't impressive, and the actual offline freeplay is just two-dozen pulled-from-the-main-story missions, but as long as i can punch things with fist weapons and enjoy the shit out of that, it's worth playing.

IIRC its pretty much necessarily at this point to make sure your ID drops are good for your class due to the decline in player counts and the impact that has on availability of items for trade.

Some sidequest chains have branching paths. Fortunately you are able to take all the paths. unfortunately IIRC for harder difficulty you have to do all the quests in the chain again to do the side quest on a higher difficulty.
Don't sell "rare" items even if you are not imminently sure what to do with them. Especially the enemy parts.
When you are in the lobby the best way to move around is to press Ctrl + U then move around. Trust me.
IIRC there is a difficulty dip when moving from EP 1 to EP 2 this doesn't mean its a good idea to jump back and forth between episodes the game is very very very story heavy. Don't skip the orange nodes on the maps until you are pretty sure you have read them all and have a good understanding of what they are about.
IIRC there are some strange weapon class combos. for example IIRC the girl fo newmen can equip the shot type weapon which is a ranger gun.

Starting out on the Dreamcast back in the day it was teh same way. The first time me and a friend logged in to the server some random player joined our game and started dropping wep and money. I used that Spread needle through the entire game up until the servers closed.

Well damn, welcome to Ultima. I think Ultima's got a more active community than Ephinea, but I can't say for sure. Ultima has an event going on right now that changes it to x5 EXP rate and rare enemy spawns are more frequent.

Rewards you get for sidequests are one-time deals per difficulty. Like how you can only get the Soul Eater once per difficulty.
The EP1/EP2 difficulty gap isn't too bad. You're just meant to exhaust EP1, then exhaust EP2, then EP4, then start EP1 on a harder difficulty and repeat.

The colour you get is dependent on what you name your character, not which class you pick. Skyly is best for Hunter, Purplenum for Ranger, Pinkal for Force.

PSO: Blue Burst is nearly identical to the Dreamcast version of PSO.

No, it's similar but superior to the GameCube version in most respects. It doesn't have the GBA connectivity features, but what can you do?

I don't care if Charge Mechguns or whatever are the dominant strategy. Nothing will surpass mai raifu, Frozen Shooter/Ice Queen.

General advice: Enter a lobby, talk to the desk and create ONE PLAYER party, and start doing story quests.

F12 - many important options, like items, here you can equip skills that you found and consumed

During combat you use WSAD and arrows:

gamecube's plus version was made to give the gamecube version the xbox's dlc content because the gamecube had no hdd

If you want to experience what PSO is all about, you should try PSOBB which will give you the widest range of content for PSO1.

Although if you want a real experience, try the gamecube PSO game Episode 1&2. (Ep 1 was made on Dreamcast, Ep 2 is an addition to the story, content, quests, items, and came on Gamecube.) You will have to play your way from level 1, move from forest to caves, mines, then ruins on your own. To unlock Ruins you need to activate each Obelisk in the previous 3 in one playthrough (takes ~3+ hours at lvl 20). Once you beat Ruins and have done a few optional quests / read Red Ring Rico's recordings in each zone, you have completed Episode 1. Move to Episode 2 and repeat with a TON of new zones and final boss in Seabed. Well done you can now repeat this in Hard difficulty and Very Hard, and then Ultimate(Ult is an Ep 2 addition to Ep 1 & 2) Ultimate makes each mob a different crazy fast/huge mob, and changes the environment of every Episode 1 zone. Its a whole new game, and the rare weapons based on ID drops are insane.

Now to experience endgame quick, I recommend PSO:BB (which is Episode 1 & 2, and Episode 4 - released only for PC after 2-3 years of Gamecube's Ep 2 release)
This is where you can join a private server to experience Ep 4. Ep 4 provides even new zones and the next story, and more exclusive end game weps. I still play shill time Ultima server and its summer time Event now, which drops you a CENTURION/BATTLE which boosts attack speed by 115%ish. Much better than God/Battle's 50%ish. I have an extra and if anyone wants to play, I will help them hunt one worth 30dts, ~$30, because I love this game a hell of a lot. Only 1/30 drop rate during 3x happy hour.

blue burst is a pc port of the xbox version with episode 4 and improved graphics

there are remnants of the xbox voice chat system in the blue burst game code like the icons that would normally show up over a player character on xbox version when they are talking though blue burst doesn't actually have voice chat

pso has two pc versions

PSOv2PC is 100% identical to the dreamcast PSOv2
it has only episode 1 and battle mode and challenge mode

there are some perks to playing the dreamcast and pc versions of PSOv2 though
PSOv2 players can play with dreamcast players
PSOv2 has higher difficulty monsters because monsters were actually nerfed in gamecube and later versions
Dark Falz looks spookier in PSOv2 because there are floating ghost heads flying around the arena, these were removed in later versions probably because of frame rate or something.

The unit (units are equippable on armor that has slots) is Centurion/Battle. Unlike God or Heavenly battle, it has double the speed increase for attacks. So you basically hit twice as fast. If you are a FO force its not important. I will help if you plan to play the game long term and not a short stint. Get a name on Ultima and we'll meet in lobby 2 whenever.

This just reminds me of all the silly mechanical trick in the game, like opening the menu when running past enemies or down hallways because your character slows down near monsters and traps. I also remember if you were using twin sabers (the dual wield, not the Darth Maul one), it was better to stop at the second hit of the combo because the third hit animation was long and the monster would come out of hitstun before you could move.

v2 also added the battle and challenge modes, new quests, and new items.
if a v1 player was playing with a v2 player that had new equipment the v1 player would see a placeholder item equipped instead which was usually a funky looking white photon saber.

there were plans for gamecube players to play with dreamcast players aswell and on some private servers this is currently possible. gamecube introduced 3 new classes; hucaseal, ramarl, and fomar. dreamcast players see these characters as placeholder ninja npcs

Yea, the menu trick is highly useful. Another tip if you are a CAST (robot, no TP usage, has traps) you can activate freeze trap instantly on mobs by releasing it and then using a handgun type weapon to hit it above you instantly. At level 200, 20 freeze traps are enough to solo entire quests with ease. Tons of little tricks. Anyone remember glitching through doors with a saber in dreamcast versions? Doesn't work past Dreamcast though. Glitch into the mountain at Falz's obelisk before the boss fight starts too.

And for the dual katanas like you said, but with cent/battle speeds you don't worry about that anymore, usually.

Some more tips and tricks:

Enemies have limited aggro radius too, so if you're a ranger, you can bully enemies from afar in some of the larger rooms while they just pace in circles.

There's also nano dragons, who you can keep hitting while they're descending which fucks their AI and makes them unable to move as long as you keep hitting them.

Doors that require 4 people to open never lead to the boss. There are doors that require 2 people that lead the right way.

I could be wrong, but I thought that the doors which had two buttons that did not need to be pressed simultaneously could lead to the boss, but ones which do need it to be simultaneous cannot lead to the boss. I'll know for sure soon enough.

Was thinking of perhaps reinstalling and playing it again on PC (last time I played PSO seriously was on the Gamecube back when it first came out and without a modem so purely offline, but I only got as far as Level 90 or so with my HUmar and had barely started on Ultimate. I did fuck around a lot back then and had over 200 hours clocked up though). I did stuff around a little with SchtHack a few years back, but Ultima seems to be the go-to server these days going off what I'm seeing here. I'm not exactly sure I like the idea of the boosted XP though (can't remember if SchtHack had boosted XP as well or not). Do the boosted XP rates throw off quest progress or anything?

In the online server setup, quests are really secondary. There's not exactly quest progression per se, you have access to all zones forest-ruins, likewise all episodes. You have all access to almost every quest, including West/East Tower Ep 2. You have to complete quest lines in one playthrough to use Gallon's PD Shop, or weapon parts though.
The main focus is levelling up and getting armor/wep/unit drops, and we use online quests for that, or custom quests for the server.
XP boost does not veer anything quest wise off course. You play what you want. You can type /exp 0 to turn off exp boosts if you really care. But its 5x for a day or two sometimes, and 3x until lvl 165, then its 2x to 200. 5x applies to all levels but is very rare and only lasts 2 or so days.

I played Ep1&2 on XBL ages ago. Remember finishing Ep1 but not Ep2 because I was a dumb little shit and really didn't understand what was going on.
Is the game worth revisiting solo?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you can set your own EXP level thanks to commands Ultima provides. The catch is that it can't be higher than the server's rate. So if it's 3x EXP, you could set it to 2x, but not 4x. Like says. Also, Ultima comes with a few custom event-locked items, so it's worth a seasonal visit.

If you don't recall the story much or are into exploring lore, then it can be interesting. EP2's final boss is pretty rad too.

Offline mode.
I wish PSO2 would have one, because once it's closes, the dream ends. Episodes 1-3 with slightly reworked matter board system would make a fantastic single player action rpg.
Though it's one of sega's most profitable games, so I don't think it's ll happen anytime soon.

It'd be the smart thing to do after the series runs its course, but until then they'll make more money online like usual.

I don't there is a precedent of any online game going out with a release of offline mode, but then again PSO is the only mmo series with it to begin with, so there is still hope.

Geez people have really gotten into Ephinea lately. I want you guys to go to Ultima because they have seasonal events to hunt stuff, which makes going back to play worth it. And you can CHOOSE to have low exp rates if you want. Not to mention Ultima has ultimate mode boosted mobs' evasion parameters, its much harder, which makes you need hit% on weapons (or just have good armor and be lvl 170+). Not to mention I will help you hunt a cent/battle still.

So its not possible to get endgame weps/armor without buying? I have everything and haven't spent a penny, I don't have Dark Weps yet though, terrible rate. Do they have the STA (sonic team armor) in Ephinea? I have it and it gives 80 resist to everything pretty much. What's endgame like there, it sounds terribly boring from my mind without season event weps etc. I can't imagine HUcast without Psycho Ravens (psycho black crystal summer drop). They do have Cent/battles over there right? Or is that just Ultima now, its 115% attack speed increase, helps hunters / rangers a lot. I don't want to hunt a SJS at 1/20,000 rate either, I got mine for ~$50 dts (selling a cent/battle + stack pd's).

Well I can see why its only 1/64 as a normal drop, it isn't that great if its combo locked. its like 1/250 rate on Ultima and only lasts for 2 weeks a year, and isn't combo locked Still does the most damage if your hp is low though, just hits super slow. Do you guys have 100% attribute weapons over there then? It could still 1 hit everything. Do you guys even do season events at Ephinea? What do you even hunt over there..

there is also "Hardcore Mode" which also has a leaderboard where if you die without a scape doll your character gets deleted
and "Hunters Boost Road"
Every month, we pick four to five quests to highlight. When players play these quests, they accumulate boost points which boost the overall drop rate when running the highlighted quests.
Due to the fact that the boosts are cumulative amongst party members, running these quests with a group of people will enable you to find many items. Common items included.
Your boost points are shared across difficulties and across your account, so getting a lot of points with one of your higher level characters can help your lower level characters find items and equipment when they also run the quests.

and there is "sandbox mode" where you can play around with hax and server commands but your character returns to normal when you leave the mode like with challenge mode

The Hardcore experience differs from the Normal experience in the following ways:

Hardcore players:

Have 2x experience bonus.
Have 2x rare enemy appearance rate in games created by them.
Have a 30% increase in rare item drop rate in games created by them.
Can join games created by Normal players.
Cannot team with Normal players (but can create their own teams for other Hardcore players).
When they die, outside of Challenge and Battle modes, they are dead permanently and the character is instantly deleted, unless they have a Scape Doll on hand. (Moon Atomizers and Reverser won’t save you.)
Scape Doll appearance is significantly reduced in this mode and a Scape Doll can only be acquired by a random box or monster drop.
Scape Doll rewards from quests are non-existant.

Note that the Hardcore bonus rates stack with temporary bonus rates for normal players, so at certain times you could benefit from a large bonus!

I don't know man, on one hand, I appreciate custom content being added to help add to the longevity of the gameplay. However, I'm not too big of a fan of rewards for donators and it seems like some of the stuff just makes it a bit easier than it was originally intended. I can probably get over the latter, but the former is a big turn-off. I will admit I have never played the original PSO so I have no point of comparison, but this is just what I am observing from your posts.

The rewards for donators are priced much higher than they should be, so you could call that the trade off. I'd rather grind for a 1/900 Spread Needle than pay $30+.

And I don't know if Ephinea has it as well, but I know Ultima has this whole mini-ecosystem where people trade in the forum. Outs Photon Drops to better use.

STA only drops for 2 weeks during the whole year. So if you are on you will get the drop easily, if you show up to each happy hour each day. Its "only" 1/250 rate, and *3 that rate on happy hour, so its ~1/50ish rate like a red ring drop on Falz, not too hard anymore. Not to mention Falz drops STA now instead of Ep 4's kondrieu/shambertin.

Also nobody uses dts to buy weapons. Dts are only used to add hit to weapons, 15dts=20% hit. Spread Needle drops from BPD1 quest, takes 5 minutes. SN drops from merlans if you want attribute/hit% at 1/500+ rate, not too hard. Plenty of quests spawn like 30+ merlans at once. Also speaking of items, i'd be willing to trade some good weapons/units for a steam game or 2 :^). TJS 100 stats, hundred souls (boosted ATP excal) 100 stats+70 hit, cent/battle.

Can't you combine the Proof of Sonic Team with a Spread Needle? I remember once upon a time I wanted it but can't remember why.

Yes, it makes a stronger ATP and higher ATA spread needle, called the Arrest Needle (AN). It also gets the strongest variant of Paralyze special-Arrest, which spread needle doesn't have, it has the 2nd highest called Paralyze if I recall (so SN without post misses more often). POST's drop in February to gal gryphon, or are ~10 dts value in trades. I forget what the SN+POST is called. But a POST has nothing to do with STArmor, just letting you know.

SN+POST is an Arrest Needle. Forgot to erase the sentence that I didn't know the name.

You know, Ephinea sounds more up my alley upon closer inspection. I was never a fan of private servers that change game balance or allow players to buy normally unobtainable gear to encourage donations.

Ok but items are not created out of thin air. The best weapons are only obtainable via drops. The ephinea guy is painting a bad image. If you don't want to hunt the drops / weps, you can trade with items you have (or dts that you got from SELLING items to people), all neglecting paying money. Takes a while, but there are hunts that yield good priced drops. Either way you won't be in endgame if you are just a passerby, thus you don't need to worry about endgame things - but I mentioned I can help you hunt the best unit for hunter/rangers, which ephinea might not have, makes the classes more fun to play.

What do people have against Force characters? I'm having a shitload of fun with a FOnewm on my gamecube copy.

1. How's the story of PSO1? Pretty much the only thing I don't hate about PSO2 in hindsight was the story.
2. Is it worth playing Episode 3? It was called CARD Revolution and was Gamecube only, right?

Story of PSO1 is pretty interesting, lots of ties to the main series. Much of it occurs in the beginning and end of quests of course, and also from message logs found during the main story mode. It's not amazing or anything but I quite enjoyed the plot.
Never played PSO ep:iii but that is indeed the name of it and afaik it was GC only.

Here's what you do. Get the game, and play it. If you want a genuine experience of offline+"story" and unlocking the new zones offline on your own, get pso ep1&2 on dolphin. The story is very good, all because of the intro movie on title screen, which explains why you are where you are and what your occupation is. You are a registered Guild Hunter on the ship Pioneer 2, it arrived on Ragol 6 months or so after Pioneer 1 landed on Ragol. No trace of 1, only recorded messages on the planet from Red Ring Rico, a citizen of Pioneer 1. You listen to her narrative as you go deeper and unravel the story. The quests in guild hunter's lobby (playing offline, you unlock them as you complete them) will tell you the story of their lives coping on Pioneer 2, exploring the new areas, and recent stories / underground dealings on the planet.

Ep 3 is something entirely different. Don't touch it. Unless you like what it is about, card stuff.

Ah. All this grandiose and grandeur, now you all know why I have an intense hatred for PSO2. It failed to even come to 1% of the imminence of that intro. You know why the hell you are on that planet, and you are going to search for any survivors. PSO2 did none of this, it was just waifu builder, put you in an online lobby, oh look 15 year old characters, emotions, a new field, a boss. But was there any story telling in your face like pso1's intro? No. Just crappy side-missions with walls of text from an anime character who is at the whim of her emotions and she's important. I never even tried learning pso2's story. How could we fail to see what we've lost as a whole in game world story building..

also episode 3 is much more story driven than the other episodes and significantly expands the lore
in episode 3 you learn a whole lot about pioneer 2 laws, civil rights, and politics, living conditions, and a whole lot of extra info like newmans needing to take meds to slow their rapid aging so that they might live longer, lore explanations for section ids, and and in lore reason why hunters are not allowed to wear other clothes.

Here's the latest version of PSO III Plus. Or, more accurately, versions; there's a Hunter and an Arkz version. With this release, I'm starting a changelog, and starting now at 1.0 so people can easily tell if they're out of date. I'm just gonna quote the readme.txt I threw in with it below -

The unobtainable cards aren't enabled to drop in packs yet. You need to use a "have all cards" AR code or something to build with them, and be using the correct ISO. Use the Hunter ISO to build Hunter decks, and the Arkz ISO to build Arkz decks. This limitation only applies to BUILDING decks, you can play decks of both types in either ISO.

The only side effect is that the pack summary after opening a whole pack won't show cards of the opposite type of the ISO you're currently playing on, but you WILL have obtained those cards. You can still review your full collection in the start menu.

there are some possible undocumented quest secrets that I found while playing the official sega servers back in the day but I never resolved them. I figure you guys might want to look into them

In the quest Gallon's Treachery during the first room where you run from the fire there are pressure switches and laser fences on the right side of the passage. I managed to find out that the first switch opens a laser fence for other players to get to the other switches and that when all switches are pressed a rock bursts open revealing a hidden box. However I was never able to coordinate my party well enough to actually figure out what is inside of the box because the fire would catch us. None of the quest guides mention this secret so it would be interesting if we were able to solve it.

It has been found that wearing the ragol ring gets you alternate npc dialog in episode 4 quests so if you are a lorefag like me you might want to do a complete ragol ring playthrough of ultimate episode 4 and see if you can get some alternate story developments or endings.

The other two are just some oddities that I had noticed. In most of the endless nightmare quests if you stand in a certain corner of the final room you will get a message "the machine has stopped"
I find it odd that it only appears when standing in spots that are kind of out of the way which makes it a bit more mysterious than typical end of quest messages and I have suspected that there is more to find about it. Also one of the endless nightmare quests doesn't seem to even have the message, I couldn't locate it.
The last oddity is at the end of Respective Tomorrow. After clearing the quest you can teleport back in to the vr system only to get the message that the vr system is under maintenance before it teleports you back. This is extremely strange because I would expect that it would normally not let you teleport at all and give you the message so I suspect that there is some undocumented hidden quest feature in this one as well.

So PSO1 is shut down for good, yet Sega wouldn't tell us about any secrets we missed? I get that you can probably find shit in Offline Mode regardless but it feels like that if it weren't for private servers, some mysteries would remain unsolved forever.

Any recommendations for which version of each class I should roll? Thinking I want one of each that's good for both offline and online rather than min-maxing for one or the other. I was thinking HUnewearl, FOnewearl and RAmarl, but HUnewearl and RAmarl don't seem like they'd bring much of anything to the table online unless the group is missing a Force.

Back when I played exclusively offline on the Gamecube version I only really played a HUmar and even then I relied a fair bit on my techniques, limited as they were (I only just realized that HUnewearl actually has much higher effective ATP offline than HUmar and approaches HUcast levels thanks to the fact she's the only Hunter capable of using Shifta/Deband, and obviously offline you can't rely on getting buffs from a group. This is part of the reason I'm also considering RAmarl over the others - she's the only Ranger with Shifta/Deband access offline as well).

There's obviously HUcast and RAcast but both seem like they'd not do that well offline, but perhaps I'm missing something (I've heard that HUcaseal is actually decent as well in some situations, partly due to faster animations with a few weapon types and the high EVP). I'm a little afraid of giving up techniques entirely and only having traps and trap sight to make up for it alongside the passive HP regen and immunity to poison/paralysis. I never really toyed with the androids offline before.

PSO Blue Burst is the correct PC game to play. PSO2 is a completely different beast and misses much of what made PSO great and is nip only. PSU was a garbage grinding sim that was DOA.

Try PSOBB on Ultima's server. They have an exp multiplier which helps cut to Ultimate difficulty (the true difficulty) faster. The original game had a low exp rate to keep you subscribed longer. Get to the high difficulty, grind out for some good gear, learn to trade (Photon Drops are used as currency among players, not Meseta) and above all, have fun.

This is a great game and has aged very well.

PSO on PC has two versions - PSO v2, and PSO Blue Burst.
PSOv2 was the dreamcast port of the game. PSOBB was the final iteration with the extra two episodes.

There's no offline on PSOBB. So I'll assume you're asking for a character that functions well solo as well as in a party.
Going off your post (thinking that HUcast and RAcast would be bad solo), I strongly suggest avoiding FO classes until you've learned more a bout how the game works.

You are wrong, HUcast and RAcast are actually amongst the strongest classes in the game. They don't get techs (notably missing healing, buff and debuff) but they do get traps which help greatly when soloing dungeons. You can often run into a room to trigger the enemy spawn, drop a confuse trap, then run out of the room and watch as the enemies kill each other off for you.

HUmar, HUnuwearl and FOmar are my favourite classes because their stats let them play a completely mixed playstyle, attacking with weapons or supporting with techs. RAmarl and FOmarl are solid too.

All in all. Don't put too much though into the class you choose, pick the coolest one and go from there. You can always just make another character and pass on your items through the shared bank.

well you have your answer. when it comes to solo, any character is good so long as you know how to properly play them, though casts do it better with their higher HP and attack stats.

Casts (HUcast/RAcast) can be a Meseta drain on di/trimates early game. The other human hunters/rangers that have Resta make the game a bit easier early levels because you can use Resta a hundred times, and heal quest NPC's. But late game when Casts get 10+ freeze/confuse traps, you can stop enemies in their tracks, and being Cast has high DFP and ATP/EVP, so you can tank hits and dish out good damage even without Shifta/Zalure. But if you have a FO, your Cast becomes unstoppable. Its the ultimate damage dealing machine, but HUmar has some Tech variety you can count on to stun mobs, likewise HUnewy.

Nice, looks very different and that can be a good thing.

I made a character on Ultima last night, but basically just made my dude, logged into block 1 and went to bed. I only ever played PSO on gamecube so i don't really know how to add friends or even which of my names to tell you, but i sure could go for some sweet sweet MAGs

I just thought 'fuck it' and decided to just go HUcast anyway. So far it's not too bad. Got to Lv17 and so far haven't had any problems - playing with a controller definitely helps to prevent taking unnecessary hits from enemies. I couldn't imagine playing a melee character with PSOBB's shitty keyboard controls - I noticed that if you try to back away from an enemy (usually when your not directly facing an enemy with the camera and you need to hit A/D to move backwards) your character slowly swivels on the spot before finally moving and it opens you up to hits you wouldn't otherwise take.

So far I haven't really missed the techniques I had on the HUmar, haven't really felt much need for traps yet though either, so I'll have to see how this pans out.

Is it just me or is the in-game shop balance modified on Ultima? I'm currently Lv 23 and already have access to some gear I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to be able to buy until Lv 26, and even then only in Hard mode (Lockgun, Gigush, etc). Currently I'm running around like a maniac shooting everything to death with a Lockgun and I'm a goddamned HUcast - It outdamages or at least breaks even with any other melee weapon I've found up until now, at least until I find a decent Buster (though I have a Gigush for multiple targets if needed).

Certainly seems different to my experience on Ephinea anyway - Ephinea didn't have the same tier gear in the shop but they tended to have a lot of extra Hit% on them even as low as about Lv 10-15, whereas I've only seen the one weapon to date on Ultima with any Hit% on it (and even then only 5 points).

Yes you continue. You pretty much locked yourself to striking classes at this point, unless you want to buy another mag on the same character.

Storage space hasn't been an issue since each player got an extra 300 storage on each character, of which you get three free. At this point, you had to be a sperg who bought every costume and never sells anything he picks up to feel short on storage space. Sega is also giving out more free storage specifically for shit like crafting materials in a month. Again, try bringing up legit complaints next time. Hell, I'll even give you one since you clearly don't play the game. Extra skill trees require real money and this fucks over tech classes. There you go.

After hitting Lv 35 and only just hitting the Mines while doing nothing but Government quests I think I'm done stuffing around on Ultima. 5x exp is just ridiculous (especially with the hugely buffed spawn rate on rare monsters, seriously what the fuck) and cheapens the experience. I get why Ultima has such high exp rates but it still feels wrong to me, so for now I think I'm going to move back to Ephinea. It's a damn shame that Ephinea isn't larger than it is (if they re-enabled character transfer it probably would grow a fair bit).

I just wish HUcasts weren't so goddamned OP, I really want to play a HUcaseal instead but their stats are so mediocre compared to HUcast (and they even get less traps). Whoever was in charge of class balance at Sega deserves to be shot.

your mag changes its "tastes" every time it evolves. monomates won't always increase the same stats.
making a pure statted mag in pso is generally bad. you want to balance it.

every class in pso has unique stat caps when a base stat reaches its maximum potential it will turn gold in the menu

base stats are altered by your character's level, your mag, consumed materials, and slot units that are equipped.

you will not reach max stats simply by reaching level 200. you need a proper material diet and a properly balanced mag to achive max stats.

look up "max stat" guides for your character class and also read mag feeding guides
pso-world is probably still the best resource for pso guides

make sure you are reading guides about your correct pso version
pso episode 1 and 2 guides are generally accurate to psobb
psov2 guides are hit and miss because alot was changed between v2 and ep1&2
some private servers have fucked with things so guide accuracy may vary

tbh its best to maintain at least 2 mags
one for your immediate stat needs
and the other for your max statted endgame once you get there

also some classes can't actually achieve 100% max stats like hunewearl
but they have multiple endgame build variations that come close to max stats with different mags for each build

There are some strange points in this, especially with episode 2. The blue burst art book says episode 2 ends before episode 1 ends. But in game episode 3 says that olga flow was not defeated until 3089. In game episode 3's description of the defeat even mentions rico and flowens spirits resonating which is shown in the ultimate ending of episode 2.
Episode 3 says that Dark Falz could not be killed and basically explained that the ruins would absorb hunters and that hunters would have to fight an avatar of Falz in order to free themselves. This is kind of shown in From The Depths with the hunters being possessed and vanishing into mist but later being found alive and okay like the humar Ash.
From The Depths is specifically listed in the artbook timelines in AUW 3085. The only reason I have the conclusion of the Ruins investigation story quests set in 3089 is because Olga Flow calls you the "Savior of the Red Child" at the end of episode 2 and that also sets up for the already mentioned soul resonation.
The Ragol Ring subplot is most likely the canon path to follow through the story. Not following a subplot doesn't alter much but your character won't be hailed as much of a hero. The alternate Soul Eater subplot is definitely non canon though because episode 4 can't logically happen.

The sole purpose of ALL these projects is to get attention and hopefully get hired by video game company.
I think only two fan games EVER finished are AM2R and SORR and both were announced with working builds/betas available, so devs knowing full well that they might not finish their work at least released what there was at the time.

Compared to everything before it De Rol Le is a fucking nightmare.

I fought it on Ultima at Lv 34 as a HUcast and nearly died (because I fucked up and stood right in the middle of the raft trying to kill the centre bomb rather than moving to a corner and killing one of those ones instead) and it felt like it took ages to kill as well. I don't remember it being that much of a pain back on the Gamecube version - though I did at least have access to Resta as a HUmar I suppose and that was also offline rather than online where enemies have higher HP (And I assume do more damage? I'm not sure on that one).

I think the worst part is that on top of the damage it can put out if you're not careful, it also has attacks which are hard to avoid outright, unlike almost everything up until that point. And its health pool is huge for that stage of the game (3x the Dragon's HP on Normal, as opposed to 1.74x/2.11x/1.27x on Hard/VHard/Ultimate).

Going to be interesting fighting it on my HUcast on Ephinea (by the time I hit it I should be Lv 23 rather than Lv 34 like I was on Ultima, though I do have pretty good gear overall and at least this time I haven't forgotten its attack patterns).

i played both online PSOs and they were incredibly boring. even with friends, its a generic "action RPG" with very poor and clunky combat. all those "whacky" moves are just cool animations and thats it, there isn't any more or less strategy than "get out of AoE area, run in, attack, repeat".

does anyone have a single fucking clue how to make a PS4 controller work in PSO2? When you calibrate the analog sticks ingame, it picks up the analog triggers for some reason, and as a result pulls the camera up all the time
