WHERE ARE THE VIDEO GAMES?

WHERE ARE THE VIDEO GAMES?

and I don't mean on Holla Forums, I mean all over the place. There's no video games at all on the horizon, it's 99% movies. I don't play video games to do boring shit or go to war. We already got people doing that shit in real life? Where's the badass anime devil hunter that rides motorcycles on ancient giant buildings or the mystical mecha toys that destroyed an ancient force of destruction that had it's evolution stopped by a fucking watch. Now all we get is edgy niggers trying to kill trump because WE WUZ HACKAZ N SHEET.

I don't mind movies, but we need some damn video games in this bitch.

On Holla Forums, I aggressively hide boring threads, offtopic threads, and threads that don't appeal to me. I usually only have 4-10 visible when I look at the catalog.

Consider being just a bit less retarded

Also, There are movies on steam now. wtfman

([]) Doubt

I'm not talking about Holla Forums, I'm talking about the industry as a whole

videogames suck

Look at this nerd, he wants to play with a toy made for children.
It's 2017 "bro", it's all about cinematic experiences.

Weeb shit is the only good shit nowadays, however my point is that there's no interesting premises anymore, it's either standard shit or shit that's been done before. I wanna see something batshit crazy but with substance. Think God Hand and Less Saints Row post The Third.

DON'T MAKE ME KICK YOUR ASS

Welcome to the real world, user.
This is how it has been since the beginning: Bunch of shit no one cares about comes out, then maybe 2 dozen games are worth playing and that's only months after they've come out and people have come back to see they were actually good.

Despite all the memes about AAA and shitty hipster games, we're still slightly above the days of Atari pumping out 20 clones of the same platformer every month, so that's a thought everyone should keep in mind when shitposting about the state of the industry.

Hopefully AAA sales dry up in the next 5 years and AA takes over again. There's already a fairly promising AA scene coming through in publishers like Devolver, THQNordic and FocusHome.

The video games I most yearn for are those movie/tv games that THQ made. I have such fond memories of the Scooby-Doo games. It's a shame most of those games were complete flops and they stopped making them all together.

I think even the people making games now agree honestly. Everyone at E3 really didn't look like they wanted to be there.

(checked)
Here is to the rise of the AA games.

Some non-weeb games that are breddy gud
Also, there's always mods and new maps made for classics like Doom, Quake, and Thief that look fantastic.

Gonna have to disagree with you there m8.

AA games? Can you give me some examples of them? I'm afraid to say I don't know much about AA games.

Try Deadbolt, Transistor, Zombie Night Terror.

Simple games, but fun.

It's certainly not for everyone, but it's overall a well designed game with a consistent style and does what it does fairly well. Yes, it's RNG heavy- but that's the point. If you have a disdain for RNG, then you'll flat out not like the game. That doesn't stop it from being a decent game, though. You make strategic decisions to turn the RNG tide in your favor.

Certainly better than Walking Simulator #753: Extra Deep edition.

I forgot about Transistor. Definitely up there as well- the mix of turn based and active combat feels like what Bethesda's fallout TRIED to do (but failed).

De-animator is the only kino game

Stuff like Darksiders, for instance. Medium to large studios with substantial (but not massive) budgets producting games that are generally competent and well-designed, but not super well-polished. Bayonetta and Prototype would be other examples.

ARMS and Splatoon 2 look fun, as well as FF12 (where the developers are so aware that they put a 4x speed button in the game). Not a lot you'd likely enjoy but I do agree that I'm tired of "psychological" horrors and zombie games. Fuck, when Sony showed Days Gone at E3 I wanted to punch someone.

There is a certain level of lazy repetitiveness that I can't tolerate even in a game like DD. Devs really dropped the ball on dungeon design and the bosses, Repeating every boss three times with minimal changes to how the bosses actually fight is intolerable. The dungeon design is just straight up lazy with linear bullshit and curios that while interesting are implemented horribly. When your best policy is just to ignore their existence with no cons instead of wasting limited resources for minimal returns then something has gone wrong. I have some beefs with class design as well but I'm not inclined to open that can of autism right now.

I love Transistor and Bastion conceptually but the developer put so much effort into trying to lock the EXP curve that I just can't play them again. One of my favorite parts of games is figuring out an easy way to get early EXP and then wrecking the next several areas. It's part of the reason I love Dragon Quest games, because the Metal Slime Murder Economy is real. But Transistor doesn't respawn enemies and the only optional content you can do to get ahead is the little minigames, which offer small, insignificant power boosts I don't remember what they were all that well because I played it when it came out and was glitchy as hell and never since then.

These guys are considered AA studios:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_publisher#Major_publishers
Just click on any of those companies and look at their published/developed games.

AA refers to budget. AAA is $10mil+ while AA is anywhere between $500k and $10mil. There's no proper rating system, everyone has just accepted that EA is AAA and THQ is AA. There's no other real classes. You're AAA, AA or Indie, more or less.

Wrong table, please fuck my face.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_publisher#Mid-size_publishers

In this year its either you stick to old stuff or complain. I like to do the first.

sdf

...

Is Vox Populi Vox Dei 2 a good game?

AA games are large third-party games, like Payday or Vermintide. Big and recognizable, but not a household name as something like Skyrim or Overwatch is.

I want games with good physics. Most games feel on rails when it comes to character movement. How many games give your character a satisfying jump?

...

Prince of Persia

It's coz the Japanese industry has almost disappeared. There are a couple of decent studios left like Platinum, but most of them are just putting out waifu pandering garbage.

...

My mustache curls like that naturally and I fucking hate it.

facial hair is retarded anyway

They haven't gone off the deep end yet. A couple shitty TV show games is just a sign that they're doing small projects to keep afloat.

Their games range from okay to not so okay, they're not trying one bit to actually make something good, just a soulless, punch clock, bullet point studio that's mostly doing licensed work, which involves making the same game over and over with a different skin, with the same stale engine that's falling apart at the seams at this point.
Riding entirely on the reputation from an okay 7th gen game, and the face of a meme director who's mostly known for shitposting on twitter and getting credit for shit he didn't do.

Nice bait, son

But what about for something he did do?

We have a thread about you, why won't you give it a visit?

I'm not fond of his games. Mikami has always been the better of the two.

You don't change that the company has done pretty good job in its timeline, which you may not like the results
Not a defender, just checking facts buddy
Tame bait, you should stop

Their games are all sauce and no meat.
If you keep settling for crap, all you'll ever get is more crap.

Video games are for nerds and mgtow nazis.

Well I disagree that weebshit is any good so there.

Simply embrace the Switch and Salvation is yours.

Even vidya have basically become movies. Fucking Hollywood cunts ruined everything.

Maybe you're not particularly good at games? Depth isn't going to be apparent after playing a game once on baby mode and moving on to the next title.

You can say "jews" around here, it's fine.

Just play Japanese games, genius.

Yeah, like ff15.

You're gonna get gassed with your fellow inattentive cucks.

It has as much gameplay as any FF game.

While I agree with the rest of your post, this particular argument will never make sense to me. There are no spawn points IRL, so playing war games instead of actually enlisting in the army is favorable. Also I'm not going to break my bones trying to learn to skate when I can just play Skate 3 and do life threatening stunts.

well yeah, but we all know the premise of these games. Like, I love me some war games myself, however we don't really see any original premises.

I want to chastise OP, but 99% of the release list for the rest of the year is not looking good.

Wow how does it feel to be such a massive faggot?
You gotta work for the games user, they don't come at you.

If you want good games you gotta spend hours on that Steam Queue, you gotta go search gamedev on twitter and go through thousands of posts about trash to find the one good game you'll like.

I wish I knew user.

That alone looks like it's going to save the year, the decae and the industry
This list is incomplete "if it's not popular then it doesn't exist" shit that gives retards like OP their current mindset.

I just google "Video game release list 2017" and that was the top result.

Did you not watch the Nintendo conference? Switch has a fantastic library lined up for the next year alone. Even PS4 has MHW and Code Vein lined up. Yes, everything else was marxist movie game trash but we have plenty to look forward to now, Nintendo did great this year.

Monster Hunter World is confirmed for the PC so I couldn't care less about everything else. I'm still fucking HYPED for Absolver and I just hope it doesn't flop like For Honor did.
Also I'm hoping to get a key for Black Squad CBT.
You just gotta dig a little bit deeper, and you'll eventually find the good stuff.

Both of those PS4 games are coming to PC.

MHW is gonna be mmo with microtransactions, cap this.

are you mad? you are suposed to shitpost and sage bomb any thread you dont like

Real gamers play on mobile
:^)

This; we assume too much good faith in people that haven't fucked us over yet but show definite signs of doing so.
If Hyperlight Drifter or whatever its called gets a sequel and its not filled with shit I'll admit that this might not be an inevitable case for shit like this but its definitely a strong trend.

I wanted to post "Where are the videogames" by ThatDarnAccount but it's fucking gone. Fuck life.

Indie devs are just numerous. Like you said, it's searching through a desert of shit to find a vidya oasis, but even then that oasis can rapidly be filled with shit by the devs, and most often is.

Right here buddy. A riveting scene from an interesting fantasy adventure RPG that just got released recently, so don't say no good games have been coming out.

If you don't at least try then you might not care enough

I try, but it progressively becomes more and more lengthy a process.

I get it.
I've been trying to put together all the good indie stuff that I find in an easy to consult list but adding to it takes fucking ages

...

I wouldn't count anything Nintendo does until it's released, especially Xenoblade. Lord knows NoA is getting the burka ready.
Same thing as the Switch lineup. After the shit Capcom has pulled in the last year, they're lucky anyone is willing to give them the time of day.
Even if Nintendo and Capcom don't trip over their own feet, that only leaves the Switch and a couple of PS4 titles, which only amounts to a drop of water in the puddle of piss.

Hah, what a primitive buffoon

And then we have the nintendrone

I agree
Video games have grown up OP, when will you?

That's how it has been since the beginning. You just have to wade through the plethora of shit to find the few dozen good games every year.

Nowadays we have Early Access survival garbage, but back when Atari were worse than Jews, we had half finished platformer clones. At least EA games don't charge you full price for stolen assets and half a game.

Video games are a female past time now.

This, tbh fam

...

I thank god I have a natural straight mustache and will never look like this much of a faggot.

The subculture opened its arms hoping to change the normalfags, but the normalfags fucked up the subculture instead.
Remember what happened here and keep things small and private.
Don't share anything special with anybody.
If you find a secret garden, they'll trample it and burn it to the ground.
Keep the fuckers out and let the normalfuck pigs wallow in their shitpile. They deserve nothing. They appreciate nothing.
Peace.

...

I'm curious about something, what are you currently, or have recently played anons?

Have you tried looking at Steam, GOG and such?

This is the primary problem right here. It's not a subculture. It's a (type of) product and a userbase. Unless you're making games independently of the market and passing them around like samizdat, you can't claim to have any ownership of the hobby. Places (and pseudo-places) like websites and groups might have cultures, but the industry itself doesn't, at least, not a single culture that is shared between the developers and the userbase.

Just confirming my post. Congrats.

Getting pissy is no substitute for an actual answer. How are you going to gatekeep when you have no control over who developers target? How are you going to gatekeep when you have no control over who actually buys the products?

The forces working in support of substance are entrepreneurs and enthusiasts. The forces working against it are corporate forces and the common retard. The more the latter are involved, the more any activity converges on accessible high fructose corn syrup and skinner box bullshit.
So you need some kind of selectivity. This was initially very conveniently provided in the computer age by technical barriers to entry. Developers foremost should want to target themselves, because developers are a higher grade of person. If they just did that, things would be better, but it's common knowledge that the average person is easily satisfied with derivative garbage and in fact wants derivative garbage.
Everything goes to shit when people realize that the lowest common denominator is quite easily satiated and there's no reason not to just drug them for easy money. But that degrades the entire human experience. The common solution is be an elitist and maintain standards and institutions (for example, don't let people call just anything "a game") that give a subculture a substance beyond money. Or remove money from the equation altogether and do it "for the love."
But then there's the problem of poseurs and infiltrators subverting that. So, the final and complete answer is "just stay obscure."

This alone is why you're fucked. Any plan of any sort that relies on mass consciousness shift has already failed because it doesn't take into account the differences of inherent psychological/moral vocations between people.
Holy fuck get your head out of your ass. Being a cog in a fucking corporation with a cog sci degree does not make you a "higher grade of person." If anything, a reasonable person would realize that being overly concerned with video games (the ultimate contingent technology, the lotus eater's paradise) is a sign of total dysfunction.

Did you seriously just type that out twice?

You're overestimating people a lot. I guess that's another way to deal with it, just revalue mediocrity as "freakin' awesome man!"

The fact is programming a game is incredibly difficult.

It's also has pretty much no social or civilizational utility. There's a reason it doesn't pay well.

Also I think this is worth addressing. I think of it as the opposite. The biggest problem in the past three hundred years (hell even going back to the dawn of the Current Era after shit with the traditional power structures in Rome started going south) is the notion that people are or should be the same. By expecting everyone to have the taste in games as specialists you're just flattening the world so you can stand on top.

Regression to the mean is real. Entropy is real. The more people enter a domain, the more it becomes homogenized. The smaller and more confined an evolutionary space is, the faster it evolves and differentiates itself (see: Galapagos Islands).
The gaming subculture was somewhat isolated from the broader culture and developed its own conventions in its early years. Now, we are seeing that divergent evolution steamrolled by the mainstream herd of garbage.
This happens to every subculture. This is all very real and it's all very sad. There should be a way to stop it.
