Kill Me Pete

For fucks sake, what audio could they possibly add? More engine noises?
How the fuck have they not learned how to fucking compress things. Games are going to be 1 tb and people will fucking riot and xbox one users will not be able to run it because it takes too much fucking space. Seriously, a 500 gb Xbox One has 1/5 of its storage taken up, and that's not even considering the 300 gb ones.
Guaranteed flop?

Do these niggers realise that compression is a thing that exists?

That's a quarter of my monthly data cap, and that would take up loads of space on any harddrive, much less the standard 500gb harddrive on most Xbones. How are devs so horrible at optimizing games now when they were nowhere near that bad on PS3/360?

F O U R K

Compression takes time, time they prefer to spend making those amazing DLCs for you to preorder.

I recall uncompressed data loads faster, but not by much

OPTIMIZE YOUR SHIT JESUS CHRIST
It's already bad enough that games are bloated as fuck & can't run on the common toaster, but it's worse when ISPs still use DATACAPS

that is fucking disgusting

Game devs know how to compress audio, but ever since Blu-Ray and MGSV the hip cool thing is to have uncompressed audio so audiophiles can claim a superior experience on their $4000 coat hanger wires.

Sorry, meant to say MGS 4 not V.

MGS4 looked and sounded great but I still dont understand why it needed data installs or dual layered BR disks

Z E R O - C O M P R E S S I O N

This is the world we live in now.

At this rate, I'd say get a decent gaming PC but these days, the same problems are popping up and it's starting to turn into russian roulette trying to figure out what games don't work between AMD and Nvida.
Want to play Metro 2033? Better not have an AMD card.
Want to play Far Cry? Better not have a Nvida.

Where did we all go so wrong?

Of course, how else are you going to fit in all those 9/11 engines

...

Loading off a blu-ray is slower than loading off a hard drive, so installing the data is an attempt to save you from problems. However, they didn't want to fill your 80GB hard drive with one game, so they do it in multiple chunks. So they pretty much defeated the whole purpose of installation.

What's the bet 99GB of this is Dolphin porn?

I just realized something as well.

Without installing a DRM that burns out your SSD or HDD- - Can you name an easier way to get gamers to upgrade their harddrives?

2018/2019 is gonna be the straw that breaks the camel's back

and internet connections. they're all in bed with each other.

I was to happy to get a download speed of 1 mb/s too.

>not emulating arcade games because those cabinets are super expensive and my stick is better quality than american sticks

What 4th world shithole do you live in??

The land of kangz and shit.
Honestly I'd be more than satisfied with 150 gigs. 100 just leaves me with little options considering the end of the month leaves me with around 20 to 24 gigs. And considering Vanquish, Automata and the dawn of war games which are the things I want to pirate are at least 10+ gigs each it sucks ass.

That sound standard for US speeds.

third-world countries actually tend to have better internet than that because they're subsidized internationally for easy sleeper cell contact.

It does? Out of curosity what are the prices for the internet in the US?

I split internet with 4 other people and I pay $26.25 for 300 down and 100 up

...

...

If only. Right now, the only way to get comfy and play lightgun games is get a PS3 and a PS2. Racers and Fighters are fine, but there are times you just want to play House of the Dead or Time Crisis.

That said, I'm ready for a gaming crash.
I've made digital back-ups of all 800 PS2 games I own.
I'm in the process of backing up my PS3 games and getting ready for that sweet PS3 emulator because fuck Sony.

What fangame, user? I'm assuming it's Metro related, so I'm interested.

...

It wasn't, sorry.

Call me a filthy jew, but i want in on this money orgy

There's ghost squad on the wii, but sometimes you have to emulate arcade games

I've got around 12 GBs of custom DOOM maps, I will get hundreds and hundreds of hours of fantastic gameplay out of it alll for free, while modern game releases are around 50GB, have shit gameplay and only last around 5 hours for $50 not counting DLC bullshit. What the fuck happened?

>Games are padded to fuck with bloat Halo 5 has the spanish audio like 20 times
I feel bad for the people who got an xbone on launch

Not a big castlevania guy, but that looks great for a fangame.

Since we're talking about neat things with small file sizes, here .kkrieger, a 96 KB 3D first person shooter with physics and dynamic lighting: pouet.net/prod.php?which=12036

What's really sad is that some people who wasted that much on the platform already will damage control to defend their decision to buy an Xbone X Day 1.

There's a recent indie twinstick shooter called Monolith that's like 26 megabytes, it looks and plays great and I think it's a better game than say Enter The Gungeon.

Does this mean we're going to get a shitload of new cars?

That's more than my SSD.

hue

Nah mainstream games aren't that affected by Nvidia or AMD cards
You might see some differences on Linux ports which use openGL or some emulators but beyond that both perform almost the same for actual PC games

for a low low price of 4.99 per car maybe

devs don't compress audio because they think larger file sizes will deter pirates from downloading their games

Its probably to sell bigger xbox hard drives. Doesnt bother me since i only get non shit games. Persona 5 has no install, dmc4se is like 25 gigs. I got a bunch of games from gog, and the biggest game is like 3 gigs. Hell, lands of lore is like 200 megs and ive already got more fun out of that than any 100+ gig game could.

Isn't their a Nvidia based videocompile process called like CrippleAMD that is literally set up to target flaws in AMD GPUs?

Thats a conspiracy theory pushed by AMDtards to excuse for AMD's completely shit OpenGL drivers.
The same thing is thrown about Intel.
Nvidia does have a bunch of hardware exclusive shit which is no longer widely used like Physx or hairworks.

Out of curiosity, does anybody knows how much time does it takes to compress stuff like audio and graphics stuff?

Let me guess

Its all wasted on some britcuck speaking and the cars still dont get fucked like on BeamNG, and they make your car go from 400km/h to 0 if you touch the sand or cut a corner

I can’t find any accurate statement on the average price in regard to an average speed. Why the fuck is that? It’s nuts.

I pay $30 for 25 megabits, myself.

You've got everything from paid mods to requiring $500+ equipment just to be competitive to corrupt journalists that get away with shady shit because they're a niche genre to an overly inclusive community who will try to dox you for anything from not playing the game right to even disliking their game.
You're honestly better off not playing any racing vidya at this point, once the sim crowd came in it ruined the entire genre.

Am I actually downloading that 9/11 car from the real world?

Arcade racers arent any better when online. Only autists take gaming seriously anyways.

Even on a computer that can run both, the graphical difference is not enough to justify spending the massive amounts of money towards a modern computer and $90 towards the game and essential DLCs. Even the amount of details is less than what we had a decade ago in racing games due to talentless hacks who can't code for shit which is why pace laps are nonexistent or night racing.

...

You are preaching to the Pope. Games are coded by monkeys nowadays, doesnt make your comparison any less biased, which makes you look like a retard.

How does this surprise anyone? They pretty much dump the raw design models into the game for the forzavistea feature. Those things are like a gorillion polys, and every single car in the game is supported in it.

I think six was also around that size, but no one cared as it was still mainly consoles and thus the install size. weren't widely considered. Hell, even up to four it required multiple install disks.

Probably is 4k textures everywhere and uncompressed audio like every other retarded game. The 10 people who actually use the W10 store are probably not gonna buy it knowing how much DLC Forza shits out. We can probably expect a 200GB game by the end of its patching cycle. I just wonder how this is gonna work on console. Is it gonna come with a second disk to install like for Forza 4?

what's a good racing game for someone looking to get into them?

Hot Pursuit 2. PS2 version only though. If you don't have a PS2, NFS Underground 2. However, you should specify if you want just a fun game or a challenging, grounded game.

If it's lossy compression it actually uses less CPU

Is there any source of devs saying that it deters piracy? Or us it just a v meme?

The new stuff looks fine to me

Only familiar with NFS Underground. I'm more familiar with older "fun" titles. I'm interested in something I can play on PC, fun games are high priority but competitive games are also interesting to me.

Casual filter thread?

Personally I like FRAM brand filters.

Still doesn't excuse the size and graphical quality.

I wonder how hard it is to compress game files?

Seems like you could create a neat Internet reputation taking these 100 GB behemoths and slicing them down to around 20 GB or less, plus send a giant FU to the industry.

Thats already what pirates do. It only helps with the distribution though, installing it i assume needs the whole hundred gigs. You would need to recode the game to have it uncompress while playing. The irony is that it would load faster when uncompressing these large files rather than just reading the large files.

>I remember when you could fit an entire game on a cassette tape.
What the hell happened to my hobby? Who is responsible for this shit?

I'm a complete outsider but the thing about racing and sports games in general seems to be that if you've played one you've played then all, so just pick one that is good with an active player base and don't bother paying for a new one for a long time right? But they still pump them out every year as if driving a car 7 is going to have drastically different mechanics from driving a car 6

Why are people so surprised over this? Did you also throw a fit when games didn't fit in a floppy disk anymore? Were you even alive by then you underage motherfuckers?

Which is the convergence of racing games in general. It's a problem when every racing game on the market right now insists on the exact same cars and tracks, and people people flock to certain types of cars and tracks it turns into a CoD situation where it's all the same shit, different game. They try to get their own gimmicks such as rain, night racing, wind, tire effects, and track effects but there's no definite racing game out there this gen that is the definite one since they all go after the same market (autists and early middle aged adults pretending they're driving FIA GT3 racecars) that it's so samey.

Protip; cassette tapes could always store more data than floppies. Floppies were just faster while with cassette tapes you actually had to play them in realtime to load the program into RAM and it was a painfully slow process. If a cassette tape came with multiple programs it usually included in the manual the exact point to run the tape on the "PRESS PLAY ON TAPE" prompt.

...

I'm glad those days are gone

is this even a question?

It actually doesn't take much
You have pirate repackers doing it singlehandedly for donations for multiple games.
If the companies gave a shit they could've easily hired any repacker to do it for their games.
Its probably being pushed by ISPs world wide to force people to upgrade their internet plans but I have nothing to prove that.

Do they just not know SDDs are still really expensive? I only use my HDDs for storage. This game would take up almost half my hard drive.

lzma with the right settings can take days on high end hardware for extremely large things (1+ TB)

they do it to fuck with pirates.

They do it as a form of piracy control.

But the reality is that it HARMS the consumer the most.

It could be both the console devs and the isps in tandem. Xbox wants to sell higher capacity xbones, and the isps want to sell better internet plans.

And the repackers completely negate any kind of piracy deterrant.

They could have rectified this if they had invested in speeding up the tape read speeds similar to how they figured out VHS.

But if you look into the history of the cassette format its one endless string of the industry related to cassette manufacture blowing their own legs off constantly. The heads of companies of cassette technology would refuse to innovate over 6 pennies per cassette the sold for example. When they made 6 dollars per take sold.

at first when i opened the yt link and saw the perfect red bar of dislikes i thought something broke with my internet and i just bursted out laughing after realizing its a comcast channel

it is amazing how unified the people's hatred is for this company

What the fuck, why?

Emulate the PS2 version of Hot Pursuit 2 then

That was before digital distribution

So Microsofts idea of "next gen" is uncompressed files?

You know, we give our ISPs here in Australia a load of shit too (deservedly so) but at least we don't have to deal with Comcast and the like. The idea of having literally one shit-tier ISP that services your area and being shit out of luck if you want to change is foreign to me, I couldn't imagine having to put up with that.

It sounds even more third-world than what we have here, and that's something. I'd laugh at it all but up until very recently our network wasn't any better (and even the new national network they're rolling out isn't that great). My condolences.

It's not FTTP but much better than what I used to have

Xboners are definitely going to riot over this.

That was a real problem if anyone was using the Intel compiler.

People said they were going to riot over 50GB games yet that didn't happen either.

All these burgers with limited data caps
Move to best Europe already

only if you promise not to kill me before I convert to glorious islam

We're pretty close to it, since most other ISPs tend to fall under the umbrella of Telstra or Optus anyway. And since Optus is complete shit when it comes to rural areas, you kind of have to go with Telstra if you want anything resembling a decent Internet connection.

Sorry, can't, not a refugee

There is no reason. The optimization wing of game dev has long since been left in the dust for bloat and cookie cutter code that "just werks" as long as you download the 20gb day one patch to fix what they couldn't be bothered to before stamping out the gold discs. What a sad state of affairs.

we have data caps in europe too. and anti piracy law and islamism

I live in the Balkans and we have none of that shit. Sucks to be you cucks.

I remember the PS3 Yakuza games installs once when you put in the disk.
And then you don't need to bother with installing anymore.

From experience the only thing I can figure is it's a bit time consuming downloading a 1000 parted zero day warezzzz release but fuck how many people still do that and not just torrent?

hello Kosovo, cuckening is not here yet but soon it will be
best regards V4 member

Hello, Serbia, ready to lose some more clay?

You have to revert to islam before you can enter

serbia is not v4, croat.

*cough*Telstra*cough*

fuck that noise, i stay with race 07.

I feel pity for you user.

Man, that seems to be a pretty nice game.

the-mig-page.wifeo.com/castlevania-the-lecarde-chronicles-2013.php
Enjoy.

...

I too pity myself, but it is a step up from the 3Mb/s down 0.6Mb/s up I was dealing with.

Forza single handingly killed the whole racing genre. Forza is the reason why bizzare creations was killed off. As a result, all racing games are trying to be forza and end up being even more shit. I'm looking at you gran turismo and nfs.

the racing community is still active as hell on older games and that will never change. Even today i get new cat models and tracks for 'race07'. Might be the future racing games are kill because of the casual filter but older games are still playable and actually looking still good. You can't kill this genre, all you need is one good racer, something from before 2007/08 and you are safe to go.

*car

Are Microsoft purposely fucking over their consumers, or are they really this retarded that they can't make a vidya under 50gb?

Modder here. Size is everything, the reptilian brain is hardwired to respect any file bigger than 100 megabytes.

Small files are given less room for errors, because idiots believe it takes less time to make them, hence everything has to be absolutely perfect.

You will drop it like a turd, as soon as it becomes apparent that the amateur graphics aren't gonna away.

We waz piratez and shit

...

Couldn't care any less as long as it gets the basics across of what it's supposed to look like and isn't eye rape.

It works too.

In America, even only a couple states away from the nexus and birthplace of the internet, we get horrible speeds for way too much money despite having in the area cumcast and verishit, as well as other minor companies renting some of their lines out, we still get robbed.

Speedtest this morning was too embarrassing to even post sub 20 Mbps download speed of course it's also a Saturday. In the middle of the week I was lucky enough to get ~35ish almost 40 Mbps. Uncover spoilers only if you wish to feel a little more dead inside. This isn't even a poorfag issue, we just have the shittiest service of all first world countries despite inventing the damn thing, and I think I have some suspicions as to (((who))) could be the cause of it.

Despite all this, I feel sorry for the unfortunate assholes in the midwest who have to deal with Time Warner.

They're servicable enough, and in a certain area serves to amplify the atmosphere.

It absolutely will. It will also deter just as many, if not more, people from purchasing their games.

...

oh no

Both national and international speed. No limits. Cheap. The only problem is that after the big mobile companies took over most internet providers their customer support has gone to shit, but thankfully it has been more than a year and a half since my last problem.

There are already pirates that repack all the new shit into smaller packages.
Unless they really go out of their way and blow it compeltly out of propotion, pirates will find a way.

I get 3 megabits, max, user.

Tell me the last time you played a game that looks like shit, user. But don't pull out old games and DF: I mean a game that was drawn and built badly, to look like shit.

You can't, because looking like shit is the first symptom of bad development.

There is a difference between "muh photo-realistic graphics" and "something that looks like shit intentionally or not."

He has a point, compared to other CV games it does look inferior and it's one of my complaints for the game

If it weren't for the speedtest I would find it hard to believe you. Pic related is one I did just now. What is wrong with my/your connections that I always have such high upload speed compared to download?

Deleted my original post and reposted because I'm a moron.

Forgot pic so polite sage.

Download Wireshark and see if something is draining your download speed. Call your internet provider and ask them. Do you not have any contract with them that states what speed you should have? Did you check online for their speeds?

I am not the one who pays for it, currently in and almost finished with the college meme so I'm not actually sure, I just know that it costs a lot and we should probably be getting much more.
Downloading Wireshark now, suppose if I can help my folks out it'll be nice.

A lot of AUS internet providers are well aware of how shit ADSL is, and the fact that the connection speed drops based on distance from the ADSL exchange, so on their websites they say they can provide "up to" 20Mb/sec and usually promise a minimum of something pathetic like 1.5Mb/s.

Wait I'm an idiot, disregard

It may have just been me living with 100 kb/s my entire life but I geniuenly could not want for more than the 1.5 I have now. The fact that gigs get downloaded in ~10 minutes is just about all I need now.

Please make me one promise, anons.
When the collapse hits, please visit the game devs that do this, and then do what you know you must do.
HI FBI, I obviously meant shaking the hands of the game devs for having such excellent business taste :^)

Man I can't wait for the day AAA games is fully replaced with mobile trash and we're left with devs that don't despise the medium

Pretty sure it's complete nonsense, since Pirates are actually the ones that will get a 30gb repack version while people who buy it have to download everything uncompressed.

Technically even a 60GB game is decreased to 30GB download for pirates, you still need 90GB to install the game.
Though I doubt that has stopped too many people.

Nvidia's GLSL compiler used to be more lenient than AMD's (and still supports Cg supports in GLSL for some reason) but that's less of an issue now. AMD's OpenGL drivers are still fucking shit and on Linux you're actually better off installing the freetard graphics drivers than AMD's proprietary shit since you'll get better performance in most vidya.

That's more than just a theory: Intel's C++ compiler checks the processor's vendor string before the feature support and disables all extra instruction sets like SSE2 or AVX if the string is anything but GenuineIntel. They were sued over it years back and forced to post a notice on their website saying they disable features for non-Intel processors, which you can read at software.intel.com/en-us/articles/optimization-notice

Your image does nothing to prove me wrong. In fact, it proves me right.

Man and to think I used to get similar speeds when I was stuck on ADSL2+ myself. I seriously doubt I could live with sub-ADSL2+ speeds these days (my GF's parents are stuck with 1.5mbps on Dodo of all companies - I've tried and tried to convince them to upgrade since they're currently on a legacy ADSL1 plan and could probably get at least a few extra mbps out of their line for basically the same price, but they seem content with waiting for Youtube to buffer and putting up with the connection slowing to a crawl when trying to watch Netflix at sub-HD resolutions. I feel like pulling my hair out whenever I'm visiting).

Only reason I'm getting these speeds is because I lucked out and managed to get iiNet HFC where I live (this shit's actually faster and cheaper than anything under the NBN at the moment since iiNet have been running their HFC network without any kind of speed or quota caps lately - meanwhile the best you can hope to get on NBN even with FTTP is 100/40).

Forza has already turned to shit long ago so nobody really cares my cuckchanner friend.
Another thing is that you can bet all of those files will be encrypted by microsoft's drm system, and since they're so hueg that means half of your performance will be wasted on decrypting assets.
wew

Nope, you're much more likely to run into a storage bottleneck when decompressing outside of edge cases or extremely complex compression methods. Reading from a hard drive is also actually a very cpu intensive proccess so you won't even necessarily use more cpu.
Only if you have some extremely complex compression method. On linux BTRFS and ZFS are filesystems that support compression of stored files, and when you do have it enabled it's very common to see read (but not write) speeds increase considerably. There's also SquashFS which compresses more aggressively and also deduplicates and with it you also see read speeds commonly increase.

just making sure, when you say kb do you mean Kilobits or Kilobytes?

What the difference?
Just fucking with you, bytes.

I remember in one of the previous gg threads that people said the internet speed in the usa is really horrible, but according to those stats they are doing fine.

Just making sure, When you say kilobytes do you mean 1000bytes/kilobytes or 1024bytes/kilobytes?

That's just average speed though - if you don't live in a major city you're probably shit out of luck compared to most other countries. America seems to be an all-or-nothing country when it comes to internet speeds. I'd wager other countries would have a far more even spread.

At this point I'd rather download repacks than buying games. Repacks are much more convenient.

Here in my country if you're in a commercial or industrial area you can get 50Mb/s fiber but otherwise you're stuck at 3Mb/s DSL or if you're in a richer area 20Mb/s DSL.
I remember one time I played some shitty p2p online game with a guy who lagged a lot and he was bragging about being rich and having the best internet connection in the server, he shows a detailed speedtest saying 100Mb/s and it turns out he has several DSL connections spreading the load and that really fucked with the game.

Please tell me that's not how most ISPs do things there

Remember:
"Mb" are different (and a lot smaller) than "MB".

You're still using larger capacity storage media as an excuse for bloating your games to unreasonable sizes, faggot.

Nope.
You can buy multiple internet connections of any kind and then you can get a special router/modem/whatever that dynamically spreads processes between each one. It's useless when several ISPs use the same cabling though.

you make it sound like somehow open source drivers are a bad thing, the pro drivers are aimed at workstation users anyway. Between intel amd and nvidia the only open source drivers that suck are nvidia's because they make shit hard for the collaborators.

Also, iirc 6th generation i* igpus have vulkan support on linux, but as far as I know not on windows, if you want vulkan with your intel gpu you need to have a 7th generation processor

It's called load balancing.

Ah. I've seen that in action but I was afraid that's what the ISPs themselves were doing if you said you wanted to have a higher tier plan or something.

Sonic and all stars racing transformed.

A small ISP will have backup lines and fall back to them or spread load. They buy bandwidth from larger ISPs, which are the only ones that exist most places. They own the infrastructure which really belongs to the citizens because they are the ones that paid to build it and pay to maintain it. But it was all sold off to private interests. They basically just do the same thing though.

Also, load balancing doesn't work like you think it will for all applications. If you're doing two different things are once it can help a lot but if you're expecting to double your download speeds you're going to be butthurt. They'll be better but not like you're expecting. Also if you use something to auto load balance it will hurt your ping by a small amount. Finally, you have to consider that you're going to have to put something between you and all your sources of bandwidth that will cost money to implement and maintain. It can become a headache and the main purpose of it isn't to make things go faster as much as ensure you have 24/7 access to the internet.

I did it back in the day with ISDN lines but haven't had a need for it since. I thought about opening a small Wireless ISP at one point and was going to use cable or DSL as a backup to my main link. But, the cable company finally built out and ran me out of the area I'd started building in. I'm happy they did it then and not later after I'd dumped more money into the project.

How I give myself internet

You can't. If you want bandwidth at the level to provide it to customers you buy it from a major carrier. In my country this is a few large telecom companies in yours it may be the Government itself. The only way to "give yourself internet" would be to build out your own infrastructure (either wires or wireless) then make some kind of deal with another company that moves around data to link up for free. It's all just computers and wires and you're just paying a middle man for access to something he bought from someone else. It's kinda like Xbox live or PSN, you're paying for a service you already paid for.

Living in a pretty shitty place and I get 100 Mb/s. Got a friend in paris who has a 300Mb/s connection. That motherfucker can download games within minutes. Anyway, before I got my 100 Mb/s I was stuck at 16 Mb/s with only 0.25Mb/s upload. Those were very shit days, was impossible to play and use mic at the same time.

Actually, this isn't correct. You're paying for the infrastructure to be maintained. In most cases whoever is supposed to maintain it will charge you top dollar and do as little work as possible. We're stuck in this situation to avoid having wires hanging everywhere and an unusable airwaves. If you don't believe me just look up pictures of New York City before rules about telegram/telephone wires where put into law.

If you just want free internet the best the common person can shoot for is the following:

The goal is to sell it to 10-15 customers to cover cost of maintaining the hardware, the fee for bandwidth, and your own cost of living. I know of some people that ran these on 1.5mbps ADSL lines for years until youtube/netflix became a thing. Now people are demanding more bandwidth than ever and it's just hard to maintain that over wireless for an entire ISP's worth of customers. Anything outside of common wifi spectrum costs big money and often times you'll have to go with that proprietary hardware to avoid interference from your own customer's routers and ensuring you have enough bandwidth for everyone.

I don't think they'll have Jeremy or the boys doing commentary for the Autovista mode (The look at this High Poly model mode).
The crash model is actually mandated by the manufactures who use this as a big ol' ad so the cars can't get TOO fucked up.
And fuck that Instastop grass shit, I wanna cheat super hard because Forza has always had cheesy ai.

But what I don't get is HOW? Forza Horizon, which is composed of a fucking OPEN WORLD MAP OF 'STRAYA is just under 50GB (which is still pretty loony). They're both stuck on Spybot10 so only the best goys will be able to play them and won't mind being fuck in the ass by size.

Grab a PS2 Emulator, hit up Emuparadise's driving game section and pick at random.
But if you want a more serious answer, if you're looking to get into sim styles, R Factor or Gran Turismo 4 could be good gateways. For arcade Ridge Racer or Modnation Racers.

Checked and kek'd

Sorry, I'm not a violent black Muslim. Europe won't allow me in.
