G-guys, this may indicate dialog trees and multiple characters.

is it going to be a singleplayer narrative driven thing or a multiplayer payday2 type thing?

Strong beginning, weak mid and endings, low budget, great music, gameplay that's promising but could use work.

Oh and it'll end prematurely.

Does it have anything to do with the tabletop RPG or are they using the IP again to fool retards into thinking the game is actually official licensed game of a public domain short story?

FrogWare, the Ukranian/Irish team that made all those Sherlock Holmes games and Magrunner have a game called The Sinking City.

It's probably just going to be a Sherlock Holmes game with Lovecraft over the top which would be amazing.

It's officially licensed.

I heard good things about Conarium, but didn't play it yet. It's from the developers of Darkness Within

I haven't really heard anything about this game though. Is it kinda a "remake" of Dark Corners of the Earth?

Duh, for the tabletop RPG, just like half a dozen other video games that just used the logo without anything from the RPG itself.

Oh yeah, I saw Conarium and gave it a whirl.
Plays well, though is on UE4 and unoptimised, though nowhere near as bad as it could of been.
Story is meant to be a sequel to At the Mountains of Madness, and it's fun enough. Kinda short, maybe 2-3 hours, shorter on subsequent playthoughs due to knowing the puzzles, but there's 3 endings.

You asked if it had anything to do with CoC and if it was tricking people into thinking it was licensed.
It is made in conjunction with CoC creators and if you look at the logo in OP, it even states it's officially licensed, and is not trying to trick the audience.

is that a dialogue decision wheel in the fifth screenshot? Hope it isn't going to be like what I think it is.

My expectations are kinda low, unfortunately. Either being complete cookie-cutter shit with a green squid paint job or cult classic with some interesting mechanics.

There is this short story called "Call of Cthulhu" from 1928, by some dude named Lovecraft. His stuff is public domain. The lads from Chaosium used the name for their brand and have whored it out for video games to give them fake officialty even though anyone could just call their game Call of Cthulhu if they used a different logo.

So, I'm asking is this another of those cases of renting a logo or an actual video game RPG based on the tabletop RPG.

Cyanide really wants to be budget bioware even though they can easily surpass them once they stop sucking up to their shitty AAA competitors.

A singleplayer narrative driven thing, an investigative RPG so I heard, the "gameplay" pictures in OP kinda confirm it. I don't even know where you got the impression that's payday2 thing, does payday2 have dialog trees?

Myabe they learn with their mistakes

I heard that multiple scenarios writers from the original tabletop are helping with the game's plot. Font: wikipedia

I heard about it too, but for some reason I don't feel inclined to play it, maybe one day. Btw, one user recommended pic related in the scary indies thread, it's pixelshit, but hey it's not everyday that we get a seemingly decent lovecraftian game

Yes, this is weird, their marketing is really weak, I talked to people that are actively expecting Mythos games and they didn't even know how the game genre, but I wouldn't blame them, normalfags normally don't investigate their shit relying on trailers to get their conclusions and there are only CGI trailers to this day

No, it's new stuff.

It probably is, I'm hopeful tho.

CoC is a P&P, like D&D. I think it'd be better suited to being a multiplayer thing along the lines of payday or l4d than another dcote

Also, vid related maybe will give you some idea

Cthulhu Saves The World is one of the best recent examples that I know of, as silly as it may be.

Last Door is pretty spooky.

last door is actually quite good and if faggots could get past the whole 'lol pixelshit' it'd have a better reputation

I get where are you coming from, but take into account that tabletops are generally played irl, which kinda forces the group to comply to the rules and roleplay accordingly to the established game norm (on contrary people could just walk away and no game would be played), this enforcement doesn't exist on online multiplayer environment, people could behave like monkeys and very little could be done about their actions, l4d and payday forces you to play well by mechanical measures and even then could be wacky as fuck without intentional trolling, but this is convenient to both games since the trashiness is inherent to the zombie splashy gore of l4d and the over to the top action heists of payday. This wouldn't work so well with the crescendo tension of a lovecraftian game tho. Also, dialog trees in multiplayer games are retarded

Seriously?

i'm not sure how lovecraftian it was, but i enjoyed the game itself

we get one story out of a license that has hundreds readily available. Yeah people are stupid assholes, just make the game fuckin hard like CoC is supposed to be and you've got your "mechanical restraints"

Fair enough, it's an interesting concept.

Fuck I hope this is a good game.

As you rightfully pointed out, you cannot "officially license" something in the public domain.
It's based on both, those primarily the RPG, and when this was originally being developed by FrogWare (Cyanide were brought in later and FrogWare are making their own Lovecraft game now) they had writers from the RPG helping with the script.
It's licensed as in the RPG, there can be no license for the story.

fuck off marketing shill

You really have a point, I could get money to discuss games.

Next you'll be telling me that wanting to gas jews on Holla Forums is jidf-tier.

Why always that one? CoC is not even Lovecrafts best story

Some people are just straight up dumb

??

It's going to be shit

Rimworld with Call of Cthulhu - Rim of Madness Expansion Pack
ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=26078.0

One can play as cultists, should one desire. There is even an elder things playable faction - you've fled a slave revolt and are starting over at the rim of galaxy.

because of pop culture, most people have never read lovecraft but they think Cthulu=scary squid stuff, and if they name drop it they look better than the other normalfags

Lovecraft was a fucking hack writer for the underclass drones of the early 20th century. Don't know why people take him and his "literature" seriously.

Never understood why Cthulhu was the one that stuck with people. Dagon and Nyarlathotep appeared in earlier stories and were just as dangerous. Was it just because Cthulhu had more tentacles?

its not modern setting enough

Lovecraft did nothing wrong, he is being hated on my commies, since he did not like niggers, you've just picked up that vibe without noticing the sauce.

On the Creation of Niggers by H. P. Lovecraft, 1912

When, long ago, the gods created Earth
In Jove's fair image Man was shaped at birth.
The beasts for lesser parts were next designed;
Yet were they too remote from humankind.
To fill the gap, and join the rest to Man,
Th'Olympian host conceiv'd a clever plan.
A beast they wrought, in semi-human figure,
Filled it with vice, and called the thing a Nigger.

Ofc, the (((psychoanalysts))) would say that Cthulhu's popularity must stem from people's subconscious desire of being fucked by their father into every orifice or a desire to fuck their mother into every existing and/or newly created orifices.

The leftists are so salty he's so popular and omnipresent and had such a lasting effect on Western pop culture that they foam at the mouth about it. The filthy Marxist vermin even changed a literally award from the bust of Lovecraft to something else because it triggered them.

Leftists should all be beaten to death.

heh i see why giger was so good

Not a fan of verbose language huh? Maybe if read something other than fanfic or shitposts you could appreciate verbose descriptive language, especially when used for creating atmosphere.

And if you're a leftist and didn't like him cause he was woke on jews and niggers kill yourself.

I think it has mostly to do with the fact Cthulhu is among the easiest of his creations to visually depict. The rest tend to be described through the emotions and terror they evoke, not their physical attributes.

...

Why do lolbertarian cuckolds believe that people who are against their values of liberty should still be given it?

They're too stupid to understand that ideals need to be tailored to reality, not worshiped as infallible.

The lolbertarians who could think critically realized that their ayn randian utopia can't exit in a multicultural hell hole. The only people left in the lolbertarian movement are "socially liberal fiscally conservative types." They don't understand the implications of the liberties they claim to support because like most leftists, they project their own agency/altruism onto everyone because lolbertarian ideology is inherently based in tabula rasa

No such thing exists. Proof of that is their retarded belief that if they remove government they think no other entity will step up to fill the power vacuum left behind. Lolbertarianism is just another moronic leftist ideology that doesn't see the world as it is, but how they want it to be.

Cyclopean.

Fuck me, I did not think anyone here would know that crazy old fool who blew up Hastur.

What in my post points towards me being a Commie? Commies love the filthy rice-devouring factory workers of China, the homeless drunkards, the prostitutes and whores. They love the underclass, the same underclass that Lovecraft wrote for. Every single story of his is exactly the same, and it is showing what kind of person he was. He was a fool, a buffoon, a sickly little coward who reveled in his poverty.

Idiots. If this is how their brains work, there's no hope for the game.

Oh come on, anyone who was a regular of /tg/ knows most of the stories. It's like not having read the Sir Bearington greentext.

lol, sure mate. Maybe you should actually read his stories before trying to shit on them.

He had no formal training in writing whatsoever. He was a member of a fallen American Aristocratic family, and yet he never picked himself up and tightened his belt so he could reclaim his birthright and rejoin the Aristocracy. He was totally fine living the same day over and over again, he loved his sickness. We see his poverty in The Rats in The Walls, as the main character slowly falls down the same path as Lovecraft, madly infatuated with death, poverty, and the sickness. He wrote unrefined genre fiction for slimy Jew-owned pulp magazines sold to smelly, unwashed labourer scum. His fanbase today consists of the same refuse of the lower classes: liberals.

Holla Forums, just go back to your shithole and stay there.

We know Cyanide originals were fa/tg/uys so… there is that. They make cycling sport games for a living apparently…
They made chaos league, Games Workshop sent lawyers tactical teams and literally forced them to do Blood Bowl or go to jail, verdicts of the blood bowl was buggy at release, got better but accurate port of the tabletop.
They makes the Styx series which are cool goblins infiltration mucking about.

It feels like a pet project, so a moderate hope of this not sucking.

hahahahaha you have no idea what the fuck you're talking about. yes, a guy who never left his house and hung out with his dowager aunts totally wrote pulp for the dockworkers. you fucking minge.

oh you're baiting, my bad. 7/10

Sunless Sea is pretty good and comfy.

It's a pretentious turd made by a leftist cuck that encourages racemixing.

CUCKALL OF CUCKTHULHU

Aren't they russian?

I tried Sunless Sea but stopped when I had been to all the ports. Once you've seen all of them it becomes a game of repeating routes.
They're brits.

What a surprise.

(checked, again)
Two dubs in a row. Auspicious occasion or ominous omen indeed.

I played it.
It was fun completing the misions.

Is the OG CoC playable on PC in a halfway decent form yet?

The Call of Cthulhu story is pretty uninteresting. Make something else.

Not really, there's still tons of bugs and you'll be lucky if you can make it to the end of the game.

I hate every single thing about that game without ever having seen a single screenshot of it. LOL THOOLOO RIGHT?

Literally nothing wrong with that

smells like lolberg delusions

You mean the one which was also on Xbox?

There's one major glitch/bug still left in the game, during the ship mission where you're supposed to shoot the wizards on the coastline. However, the wizards won't appear. There are tons of guides on how to hit them even when invisible, or you could just do a level skip since it's nothing special.

I loved that mod. I just wish they include more gods and even include some 'good' gods from the mythos.

...

The NPC in the fifth image looks like a character straight from Dishonoured.

Oh, forgot to mention

I can see a King in Yellow game being like a I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream game, with the atmosphere and all that.

As long as they don't fuck it up as hard as the people that decided to make a fucking 'horror' shooter.

I can't find a single person who sees that game for the utter turd it really was.

If it's by Cyanide it should be alright but I haven't seen much of it gameplay-wise.

Also
Beautiful

What? now I'm curious.

Sometimes, I find myself wishing to write in the same ridiculously verbase language Lovecraft write in. Then I realise I'm not writing something particularly meant to create atmosphere and go on with my writing.

I’ll keep an eye on it, and FrogWare’s game, but I’m far from sold based what what I’ve seen.

Dark Corners of the Earth was Elder God-tier up until you got a firearm – then it turned into yet another FPS with Lovecraftian monsters.

I’m not against combat in a Lovecraft game, but it shouldn’t come at the cost of the atmosphere and cosmic horror.

Go away

I expect pleb-tier "le scary tentacles" gameplay because that's all gamers and devs seem to know about Lovecraft. This thread is proof.

That trailer is clearly not CGI but in engine. Even has gameplay in it.

...

Why can't we get a game that takes place in Lovecraft's "Dreamland?" There's more ideas to explore in his Dream Cycle stories than his other stories. Guess Bloodborne is the closet thing we'll get to a Dream Cycle game.

You don't even need to use Lovecraft's mythos directly, you can simply try to emulate his most common themes and concepts, but I guess his ideas are a little too problematic for the current crop of Marxist writers that have shat up everything sci-fi and fantasy in the West.

What are they going to do about it, anyways?
Like they can bitch and moan all they want but it's not like they can wipe Lovecraft's work off the face of the earth.

Have you seen the state of Western science fiction and fantasy in the past few years? Sure, they can't take Lovecraft's works away, but they can make sure they're surrounded by a barren wasteland of Marxist propaganda.

That doesn't mean they won't try…

World Fantasy award drops HP Lovecraft as prize image: archive.is/33jEt

I can't say I do, but if it's anything like the state of comedy movies I feel your pain.

nobody cares about his old beliefs except whiny liberals and the equally whiny aut-right. he was a racist b/c society was more racist back then, who fucking cares? miserable trumpcuck kids care, i guess.

How could've they done the combat better?

yeah, god forbid a game having gameplay in it ; why don't you just make Gone Homo 1.5: The Moon-Bog if you're so good at it? Too difficult for an intellectual like yourself? You are more of an ideas guy? Maybe a Twine game describing your sex life or rather that of your wife and her bull called The Whisperer in Darkness ?

The game shouldn’t be centred around combat – CoC: DcotE started out with a focus on stealth and forced the player to avoid confrontation – the chase sequences were good (hard, but good).

Frictional Games did combat right in Penumbra: Overture – it was clunky and was only used as a last defence.

There is.

I think lovecraftian combat should be something close to Reciver, with lots of mechanical actions under pressure. Some kind of shock system, when you can't aim properly when you see him in detail, and every combat is massive, with a lot shit going on around and tons of NPC shooting on sight, and one, clearly overwhelming and seemingly invincible foe. Player's goal - make few lucky shots, run away far enough or solve puzzle before everyone around die or lose mind.
Add some "Disaster Report" gameplay before fight, make few acts and ready.
And call it The Dunwich Horror.

Based off what I can see?

100% walking sim

CTHULHU IS LOVECRAFT'S WORST WRITING AND IS MEME TIER FUCKING DOGSHIT AND EVERYONE KNOWS IT

It definitely wasn't his worse (I think The Picture in the House is his worst as it had no real meat or content to it) But it is the meme-work of his. Cthulhu for some reason resonates with normalfags despite Lovecraft having much better and more interesting characters.

I think it's mainly due to Cthulhu having a very concrete and easily describable form. Beings like Azathoth, Yog-Sothoth, or even Nyarlathotep, while infinitely more intriguing, are hard to pin down from a visual style. Cthulhu can easily be described as giant green dude with an octopus head and wings, which is why normalfags can latch onto it as a shorthand for cosmic horror. Prime example is how as I'm typing this, Azathoth, Yog-Sothoth, and Nyarlathotep are marked as nonexistent words but Cthulhu gets a free pass despite being one of the lesser beings in the mythos.

Is that really the best town name they could come up with?

I actually liked the Picture in the House

It's because Cthulhu has a form that can be monetised: You can make a plushy out of Cthulhu, but good luck making one for Azathoth etc.

normalfags only understand things in terms of what they can consume or spend money on, so naturally Cthulhu is what normalfags are attracted to.

There is a strong Lovecraftian fanbase but the man hated niggers. So the left have to autistically screech about it.

Lots of gays and trannies in the Lovecraftian scene though.

He wasn't even that bad. Certainly not "extreme enough for Holla Forums" since he married a Jewess.

He was also a New Deal Democrat/democratic socialist in later life.

I was about to post this until beat me to it, but his dubs are checked. We must retrieve the gnomes.

I want normalfags to leave

Reminder this exists

reminder:
NOT A VIDEOGAME

and what does that mean in the modern context of the political landscape ? Oh, nothing

Are you the guy who lurks webm threads and complains about nonvidya webms?

n-no

I tried watching this turd twice, but I couldn't get past the scene where he rescues Cthulhu.

Wasn't too impressed by Cyanide's CoC trailer…
Any news on FrogWare's Lovecraft game?

Who is even supposed to be the audience for… that? Kids don't know Lovecraft. Adults don't want kiddie shit from Lovecraft. Nu-Males don't like HPL.

...

user, can we meet up and read something together?

It's too shiny, too bright. The lighting looks more like something deliberately camp than something actually scary.
I know Lovecraft got fucked by popular culture, but still.

Bloodborne.

I'd love a game set in the dreamlands.

Sometimes I go on Holla Forums just to seek (you)s.
