Not really. I just like it when it's used in games like GTA where people stumble and fall over when shot in the gut and fall based on the physics engine.

Who told you those things? I tried it, it wasn't good, and I only heard bad things about it. I was legit hyped for it, as a fan of fatal frame.

Despite its shit reputation, the original Slender game is 100% paranoia, 0% jump scare unless you manage to get caught (which is maybe 5% of the game if you're shit at it).

I'd suggest a PS1 emulator and Clock Tower, if you haven't played it already. It's a fantastic horror game and, though not obscure by any means, flies under most peoples' radars.

Penumbra Overture is 100% tension and paranoia.

fourth wall scares are never good because by virtue of existing it reminds you it's all fake and can't affect you in any way.

I think the whole purpose of a fourth wall breaking game is that you don't know that is going happen making it recommending it useless since all the horror comes by surprise.

I think it's more for the sake of novelty than scares, it's hard to imagine a modern AAA game doing it for example.

Afraid of Monsters and Cry of Fear might be up your alley. Afraid of Monsters is pretty jumpscarish, though. Considerably moreso than Cry of Fear which also has its moments, too. Of the two, I think Cry of Fear is the better game, but it's kind of all subjective really. You might also want to give pic related a try.

Oh, for sure. In fact, a trailer made for the game after it was released was one of the most cancerous I've ever seen. The trailer is basically just one big face cam reaction compilation to the big jumpscare at the end of the tutorial.

Why hasnt someone made a horror game that takes hundreds of hours to get to? Make it so only a few people get to experience the horror, and make them look crazy to others when they tell people. The unspoilering is done very poorly in an image editor, if you go so out of the way to uncover the names (meaning that it was literally unreadable in the first place and not just painted over with a transparent enough brush for you to clearly see everything) you at least make them readable, for christ sake.
The story itself is eh. On top of it being average, the first paragraph has no connection to everything else and doesn't make sense in retrospection after the whole story is read.

This is the most interesting thread i have seen on Holla Forums in awhile.
I recall a weird thread on 4/x/ around 2011 about people seeing strange Incomplete large bugs right after they woke up, and how many anons had similar expiriences.
- The OP was in a some Uni in the US and claimed to have seen a large bluish caterpillar in his room the first few seconds after waking up. The bug was large like a dog but the caterpiller head was "wrong"
- Another user claiming to work on a package delivery company claimed he took a snooze for a few minutes after parking his van at the company warehouse. right after waking up he saw something like a large( around 30 or 40 cm ) purple spider without its "butt" walking around some boxes, upon cleaning its eyes it was gone
- Some user claiming to be from Southamerica saw a basketball-size black crab without claws walking out of his room righ after waking up.

Besides the "saw a large weird bug right after walking up, but then it was one" similarity nothing was found or achieved

It's not indie, but I've found Alien: Isolation to be a great fuck fuck game.

There were a few SCPs that involved rape or at least suggested it, and these were all removed or altered because they were triggering and 2spooky (even though that's the whole goddamn point). Some male characters were changed to female ones for diversity, and some "misogynistic" dialogue was removed or replaced. SCPs that dealt with or induced mental illness also received negatived attention.Lots of shit like that. And then almost all of the newer SCPs are garbage because they're carefully written not to offend or trigger any potential shithead.

The Medicant is her own person, with her own thoughts, feelings, and goals. I had this Chinese fauxsmartphone (it had an appearance of an iPhone, but the touch was horrible and it was neither Android nor ios), and it had a bunch of weird apps and I remember messing with all of them a lot just for fun, but one day I heard a very loud woof coming from it, and looking to the screen I saw the sharp teeth of a dog or a wolf, and a split second later it was back to normal, I was really curious for what had happened, I rechecked all the apps, I imagined there was a troll app where you gave your phone to friends and after sometime it jumpscared then and I didn't find anything related to woofs or similar in the phone, then I really ignored it, but happened again at least two or three times, the weird thing is that it seemed to have no trigger it just happened in the most unexpected moment possible. I eventually trashed this phone, but I never understood what's was up with the woods.
