Former GTA Online player here. They run that game with a level of incompetence not seen since OSI. Their latest fuckup was in "adjusting" bank accounts to remove all the fake money forced in to other player's accounts by Chinese modders over the past 2 months they in many cases removed legitimate money from players, or left fake money on others. They're just incredibly sloppy about everything they do and they harm their players.
I kept extremely careful track of my money and avoided all money glitches and cheats so I can say with 100% confidence that they removed legitimate money from some players who didn't cheat. In my case, I lost a legitimate $25M when my account was reset to $0. That's about 100 hours of grinding.
So now rather than actually start maintaining their game and add some real anti-cheat or hire someone who doesn't shit on the street to manage it, they're sending lawyers to kill the OpenIV project which the GTA Online mods rely on. But some of these mods are making so much money now they can hire programmers to do it in-house, and I can see them hiring many of the former OpenIV team.
Anyway, avoid their games until you see a house cleaning at the management level. It's just amazing to me that a game worth a billion dollars is run less competently than an indie game.
That's when you start burning their shit down to the tune of what they owe.
You should see how fucked up it is in software. A company ripped the firmware off our hardware (a network device with various features), set it up in vmware and sold access to VMs of it like it was their product (kinda like how amazon devpay used to work). The unit cost of our product is about $20k and they had at least several thousand instances of it given how many were still syncing NTP with one of our servers (specified by IP on the box which is how they probably missed it), so this was well into the millions we were getting taken for. But talking with the lawyers, my company decided it would be too expensive to do anything about it so they instead tried to make a deal with the thieves to get a cut of the money they were stealing from us.
That didn't work so plan C was to blow shit up. For "copyright control" purposes, in case someone had disabled connections to our license server and is trying to resell our product (chinks), there was secretly a magic packet that if it passed through our devices would brick them after a random amount of time. So I just sent it to every address in their range from a VPN (couldn't use Tor as it only does TCP) and took out all their customers. A few days later when they were back up and running I did it again, and kept doing this every so often until they shut down or re-opened their 'business' somewhere we've not noticed yet.
Most companies in tech that aren't at a scale where they can have the government step in to defend their copyright have these self-destruct features built into their products. If we ever have a real war, you better be ready with the tin cans and string.

Most GTA Online mods are paid, many are subscriptions. Some of the popular ones are pretty expensive. Force Legacy (the one that is responsible for wrecking my account) is about $240/yr and Force Elite is $120/yr. They have a large userbase, so I'd expect we're talking about millions a year.

There's a difference in the police. The poorer the country, the more agressive the cops. Bulgaria's cops for instance will beat up people that say something slightly resistant. I'll attest to this. Although while in University doing the compsci program, we had to take an ethics and law class (it was programming related law, but still a waste of time&money).
