If they could come up with an interdimensional rift option that allowed you to play the game for the hours required while also not losing hundreds of hours of your real life that would be neat.

AC is super comfy and I love to play it, but I can't find myself investing even an hour of my time into it because I know in the back of my mind I could be productive with that time. While other games at least give you some sense of achievement and completion, this one is the definition of a neverending timesink.

Ceiling furniture, the ability to place furniture on half-tiles (including when on surfaces like tables), chosing where villagers live, placing furniture outside, designing city and villager buildings, and being able to pick the floor layouts of those buildings.

Oh but to be on the subject, why not be able to use the villagers for special abilities? The horse neighbor could give you a ride on his shoulders for faster movement, the cat neighbor could lend a hand to help catch fish easier, the pelican neighbor can fly up and grab floating gifts even if you don't have a slingshot, etc.

They can do a ton more, but they need a more creative team on it.

Beyond that, though, i'd say allow the game to get bigger and bigger, until it's practically, and let's not split hairs here, Breath of the Wild. Huge unknown expanses and maybe like swords and monsters and shit. Pretty much just a gigantic open world game with hundred of useless items to find and turn into less-useless items. The more you try to add to the game, the more it'll turn into a roaming sandbox; no matter what, the only way onward and upwards is either Skyrim or maybe Minecraft, but with cute animal companions who you may well be able to fuck.

So, really, it's a good thing if it doesn't go too far outside it's safe zone, because that's what's just over the horizon.

Nah, small and focused is better than big and shallow. They need to flesh out the villagers above all, and they can't do that by making the game bigger.

I mentioned a "best friends" and "roommate" system in a previous AC thread a while ago, it needs to be implemented.
Although instead of reserving a spare room for them, there should be a room automatically granted to them once they move in.
I'd like them to go a step more towards Harvest Moon/Rune Factory and offer villager social events. In order to become a best friend with a villager you need to not only put effort into talking/gifting them, but also experience their unique character events.

Didn't think about having them walk around with you though, that would be nice.

BOTW had a surprisingly well filled world though a bit more variety would've been nice, but it was an action game and Zelda has far more more I'm general so they could throw in little Easter eggs everywhere like lon lon ranch. Making AC as big as that is ridiculous. There's simply not enough you could do with it to fill the space. Also the whole point of AC imo is to have a small comfy area that you look after. If they're gonna add something to make the game larger they should take a page outta harvest moons books and add caves to mine in or a little secluded hot spring or something. AC doesn't need to be much more than it is, and I think with a few tweaks and the graphical upgrade of 3ds to switch the next game could be kinda a dead end for the series. Only time will tell tho. I mean we could get an animal crossing announced during treehouse in the next couple days or we could never get another AC game, whose to say

Wouldn't be surprised if this the struggle Nintendo is going through with an AC sequel. City Folk was developed because they thought the players wanted more Wild World and also didn't push the series forward, and that turned out to be not the best idea, and they probably don't want a repeat of the with NL to a AC Switch title.

It feels like the designers didn't design the game for someone to play this for hours on end. Things like how time passes feels like they wanted this as something you play through the day in short intervals.

More patterb storage in general. I like that the palette is limited to 16 colors. As a programmer that's a nice flexible number and you can cram a lot of data if you keep with 4 bit chunks. We're not in 2008 anymore so storage isn't a problem any more.

I'd also ask for faster UI and menus. It felt just so clunky to do things. If you go to pick up a fruit and your inventory is full, it can take like 30s to fix it

Besides more online functionality and things we can do to the town, I think we need more stuff to do with our villagers. I would love to just go fishing with some of them, or maybe they help you with farming and chores.

Also, I would love more minigames. Puzzle League was the best thing added in the Welcome Amiibo expansion.

Make a game that takes the best aspects of the original and NL. NL is better regarding content, but not regarding the atmosphere.
The biggest thing NL missed from the original was character personalities. In the original each character had distinct personalities with unique dialogue that changed as they grew to like you. NL has more characters, but they just feel like carbon copies of each other with little difference in dialogue. The only noticeable difference is the character's catchphrase.
The dialogue also feels too safe. In the original characters could be furious, depressed, excited, and maybe other emotions. While limited, the dialogue was stronger giving more emphasis to how they were feeling. While NL allows them to express more emotions, the dialogue makes it feel more like they're just annoyed, a little down, or happy. The dialogue isn't as strong so they don't feel as expressive as they used to be.
The dialogue change is most noticeable with Resetti. We all remember how pissed he got in the original game for not saving before quitting right? The big text, sometimes in all caps, you don't forget that. Hell, if you didn't save enough times he'd threaten to erase your save. He terrified me my first time playing. In NL, he's still annoyed with you when you don't save, but he's nowhere near as furious as he was before. At most he's just very upset.
The change is also noticeable with Blathers. Remember the long speeches he used to give when turning in new things for the museum? I really liked that. Part of it was I enjoyed history, but also it made him more unique as a character. Admittedly, I didn't like hearing it all the time, which is why they might have cut back the dialogue in NL, but having the long dialogue with an option to skip it wouldn't be so bad. (I think giving a brief description of the item would be good, and then ask the player if they want to hear more.)

The beautiful town ordinance in new leaf helped, but still maybe a way to select 1 villager as your best friend or whatever who wont leave until you take that role off of them

Persistent online. Every player has their own planet with a selection of plants and animals based on the conditions. You don't just visit your friends, you establish permanent links between your worlds which the animals can traverse - that's how you'd get camels on your otter world. If your favorite villager moves away you can go on a quest to woo them back. Fruits and fish evolve, there's a simple food chain, look out for invasive species. Tons of depth. Paid online.

More personalities, or at least have a few lines unique to each villager. Also, villagers should be able to wear pants and hats.

New leaf was actually a step back when it came to the characters themselves though. All the character's personalities seemed to be watered down to make them more likeable.

In the older games, the grouchy characters were sometimes not that likable which I think is good because that's an characteristic of someone who is grouchy. They were rude, even sometimes mean to you. In New Leaf it's honestly hard to tell which characters are supposed to be the grouchy ones just by talking to them. It was good honestly, it made the nicer characters seem nicer and you could do silly things to the mean characters like put them in pitfall traps and stuff. Eventually though you might end up liking them because they had their moments.

It just makes the whole experience less interesting in my opinion.

Having neighbors talk about going places as eating with other villagers is shit, the player should be involved in these activities, they should add a cinema that plays cutscenes, restaurants that increase happiness ( and you can work in ), sleepovers, surprise parties and a shit ton of NPC dialogue.
If nothing works just a add dating and it will still sell like hotcakes

Retro vidya is a given everyone agrees on, and if milking shekels is the concern they could make original 'retro' games a-la the ds gamecenter cx game.

You could also throw in a cinema that plays movies gta v style, and maybe even magazines, you can roll out new ones for quite some time with relative ease (get two people from nintendo to write ridiculous shit in masss).

Hell, you can even have an internet thing where you could chat with villagers or even a forum type thing where everyone can shitpost about everyone else.
