Well, like most people assumed, Samus has limbs and can hit things she fights. She also can, like, move and is strong and stuff so, I dunno, that might give people ideas when fighting foes who wanna pin you down and rip your face off.

If they were trying to piggyback off that fan project they should have at least made it 2D instead of 3D.

It would only be acceptable if 80% of the game was in cavernous / underground areas or deep within the bowels of a buried star ship or in some alien complex or lair or whatever but you can get back to the surface which is far more open.

Might be a good way of juxtaposition with the claustrophic elements having the freedom at the surface. Could also be a good way of unlocking short cuts (like Diablo 1 if you remember that game) where new areas or existing underground areas can be accessed from the surface.

-It's easier to port an old Samus model over rather than make something from scratch

Unlike back in the day artists had to design black women with simple hairstyles , because hurr durr you try reducing the polycount of braids and afros- You also had to consider the engine and hair physics drives some games insane.
Designers these days are pidgeonholed because you "have to make the character look black" and how do you that? You rely on stereotypes and images of famous black women.

I recently had to quickly prototype a female black character and run it past our shitty little focus group and the honchos.
Long story short, everyone liked the design with the afro. I literally traced an image of cleopatra jones. * and hurr durr durr de durrrrrrrrr all the women in that fucking image look like someone fused Tamara Dobson with Pam Grier and poured some Zoe Kravitz on top. Pics related.

Metroid Prime 4 has no information so we don't know the potential quality or lack thereof. Retro Studios talent behind the Prime games are long gone since the Trilogy's conclusion and Metroid Prime 3 wasn't that great, so Retro alone doesn't sell me. A new studio is being said to behind the new Prime 4, so it seems like Nintendo is trying to repeat history that they did with the first Prime, where an untested new Studio was the developers and people were freaking out about the potential quality. Obviously, things worked out there, but will they work out here? I guess we'll see.

Metroid: Samus Returns is a bit more worrisome, since we know the dev behind it is not that great and AM2R set the bar high.
