This intensified when the cliques on Tumblr who do not actually appreciate the material, but participate in its fanbase anyways latched onto it and began pushing it as a fucking Citizen Kane of gaming- the same people who popularized Dangan Ronpa, OFF, and Homestuck, for example. I have my sincere doubts it actually ever really got popular, but it sure as hell got exposed. Holla Forums liked it at the time because there was still quite a lot to find out about the game and the game's presentation is nice, as well that it spawned something of an OC renaissance- I have hundreds of pieces of fanart, simple comics, fan-music and other such things just from Holla Forums alone sitting around on my hard drive from those threads.

Then once the game got popularized, Tumblr took hold, OC started being thieved and reposted on Youtube (for example all the characters'-heads-over-existing-youtube-clips videos) and Holla Forums lost interest because there was little to talk about, shitposting took root and the threads were inevitably banned. The people who participated in those threads were long gone.

I pirated the game and played until the Undyne fight, and I think the game is alright.
The humor while kinda dumb isn't as cringey as most of TV humor is, and actually made me chuckle sometimes. Characters are well made and likeable for the most part, the combat system was actually engaging and fun, unlike most RPG Maker Games nowadays.

It's actually humilliating how that faggot Toby fox made a game where your choices affect the game better than AA/AAA fags like modern Bioware.

You can fight with your traditional combat mechanics, but if you choose a pacifist run, you're playing a "bullet hell" while trying to figure out how to avoid killing the current monster. I'll say that the concept is interesting, but neither system was used to its fullest potential. Once you figure out how to "spare" the monster, then that solution will always work, and each monster only has very basic attack patterns that can be easily memorized if you care enough to do so. The normal combat is dull.
