This game has a lot of potential, and god knows, except for Curly Brace, these characters desperately need some representation.

It's a damn shame that NiCALiS is involved, I hope this game can somehow manage to survive and make it to release.

What is umihara's gimmick? When I hear platformer, I typically think jump n shoot, dash n slash, stomp the goomba, or something similar.

And it's fucking massively difficult. It's hard to express how ball-busting of a platformer it can be. It's not really pixel-frame jumps or I wanna be the guy traps, it's just learning to use that rod to its full capabilities.

Completing the levels are immensely satisfying though.

I remember trying to wrap my head around the chain rod in megaman zero 2. I enjoyed the idea, but I could never get the angle right for the platforming

Extremes are bad, it's okay to not have amazingly fluid animations but it's not okay to have whatever this mess is supposed to be.

Granted, I haven't been playing sfa3 recently, I do recall there being a certain amount of stiffness to the motion in certain cases. Especially when shoryuken or tatsumaki hits. Stiffness in good in certain situations, really accentuates the hit

SF3 isn't the best example, since it's not fiscally reasonable to make something even close to that these days. Everyone's moving on from even mediocre spritework for a reason, outside of people doing it solely out of passion. It's basically the high water line during a tsunami, it's not a fare comparison.

The game wasn't suppose to be shown off until August, NiCALiS just decided to be the kikes they are and force the devs to show an early state.
Based on Studio Saizensen's last fighting game, they know what their doing and this is just an extremely early version.

I do expect at least Guilty Gear level of fluidity from fighting games, and this shit doesn't pass.

Wish I had a overclocked N3DS to play Code of Princess, though, since the PC version is one of those lazy 3DS ports.

So did I. The problem is that they only publish ports of really good games, which is why you assume they are good. The ports are usually mediocre anyway.

How bad is it?

It's not really bad, is just lazy. It's a bad 1:1 port from the 3DS version, basically nothing changed, you have even 2 screens, I think you have the option to play with one screen but you miss the details in the second screen. Also, the aspect ratio is not fixed.
You can play it if you want, but seriously, you can just play it on a 3DS and you'd have a better time, although on a O3DS the framerate is terrible, if you want the best experience, overcloack a N3DS and play it.

The in-game portraits are quite nice though.
