Why are there no competitive racing games?

Why are there no competitive racing games?
pic unrelated.

Mario Kart

He said competitive, not meme rng kiddie communist shit

...

Do you mean competitive or esport?
Racing games are all competitive, they have time trails and there are leader boards for these sorts of things.
Racing game esports wouldn't catch on. There are no real ways for a person to catch up to the lead, leaving it boring to watch.

Because real racing exists and if you're going to watch it's basically the same thing, you're just watching some cars on a track real or otherwise.

Oh matpat!

Only real answer

What are you talking about OP?
Are you retarded or something?
Everybody knows the competitive racing genre is being kept alive single handedly by this one game.

I wish F-Zero GX had a competitive scene. I'd join that in no time.

This, why would anyone waste their time watching people playing sims when the real thing is a million times better?

...

e-sport has too many negative connotations, I was thinking something like fighting game tournaments

what about fighting games.

that actually makes a lot of sense.

to elaborate:
vidya fighting has the advantage of being more visually readable and fast, as well as letting you do crazy shit not possible in a real fight.
vidya racing has the same advantages but it has no real competitive scene.

How would you go about creating pickups that reward entrepreneurial risk taking involving fast calculations and deductions of the situation?

You're not far off, but Mario Party fits the bill more because Bowser actually takes your wealth & redistributes.

Need a competitive race wars game.

How the fuck's that communist?

Closest to what you're probably thinking of would be Trackmania, but that's dead.

iRacing, rFactor, Richard Burns Rally, Dirt Rally, Assetto Corsa, Automobilisita, and even Project Cars all have online competitive leagues. Even fucking pic related has competitions.

Yes, because competitive games exist solely for the spectators.

You're punished for being in first, and rewarded for being in last.

The ones that get popular are because of the spectators.

That's socialism, fucktard. Communism goes for equality and socialism goes for equity.

Pretty much, Socialism goes for "everyone gets that they need" and Communism is more about "everything belongs to everyone" or something like that, still not optimal.

...

Isn't that Fascism?

Not quite, well, Facism is what you get when someone wants to implement Socialism.

Maybe because holding down on button and going left and right occasionally doesn't take a lot of skill?

Well, there is the whole drifting technique and the like, but depends on the game, kart racing games are more popular, the only thing ruining them are items and rubberbanding which means competing against an AI is not a good way to practice.

I don't really see a problem with items in general for kart games. They should just be low impact and skillful. Obvious catchup, blue shells, the bullet, and everything else should be banend in comp play. They should just let you tweak the items like you can in smash and it wouldn't be a problem tbh.

Agreed, if anything competitive items would need to be limited and not quite random, the usual boost items are fine, weapons, not sure but then again, if its PvP there is no reason to take them out as long as they rely on aiming.

Apologies for the self-cap, but I wanted to avoid writing my reasoning out again in case the topic resurfaced. I like racing games but I think the genre appears shallow to the average player.

How would you make a racing game that:

The closest thing I can remember is Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed - lord, what an awful title - but even that had random items you couldn't customize.

No, fuck this, git gud

I dont care. Sure is summer in here. Shills everywhere! Reddit quality thread. Go back to cuckchan. Are we being raided?

As opposed to cooperative racing ?

I want to put a bun in Vivian's oven, take responsibility, get a well paying job, have a simple country wedding ceremony, take her on a trip to Venice for the honeymoon where we'll dance in a traditional ball, mortgage a nice house to raise a small family in, save for our future children's education, raise our kids to be considerate and honest, and retire to cruise around the world in a sailing ship.

What? I don't understand what you mean.

real everything exists, but its never as cool

she's not real

That's the dumbest thing I've ever seen and you should be ashamed that you even posted this

youre just mad as fuck you didnt think of it

thatd be called rally you idiots

Probably because racing games don't have much separation in terms of skill if someone is remotely good. That and balancing things like cars, power ups, and all that stuff would be impossible to be perfect.

Also it's the sort of game that you have different starting positions at the start of a race, meaning some players inherently already have an advantage at the start of each race. An esports game can't have that kind of thing cus too many people would bitch about it.

Racing games will never have a niche in Esports. If it's ever going to get reasonably big, there has to be money in it. First you need a racing game to sell a good number of copies, and be fairly popular in at least one country. After getting a good initial playerbase, now it needs to be fun and fair to play with other people. After that you need a playerbase that will enjoy playing it consistently and not just flock to the next yearly iteration of that genre of game.

The big thing with racing games though are that if they're a simulation game, it's not much like a vs. game or a traditional sports game where you doing really well means you're defeating an opponent. Your performance directly effects how well your opponent(s) are doing. In racing it's not the same thing.

Let's not forget the fact you can watch plenty of real life racing that's a lot of cars going around in circles, and that wrecks will always be the most intriguing part of watching a race. If nothing goes wrong, a race is entirely boring unfortunately. And racecar drivers would fail in any other actual sport.

Racing game are inherently competitive, you ding dong.
Recing vidya is doomed as a spectator sport because literally every single corporate entity in existence already sponsors actual racing.

wow what a cunt

That game is more balanced than Mario Kart

If you don't understand that racing is inherently a competition, then yeah, I'd see how the obvious would seem dumb to you.

Damn right, fuck that fucking series.

jewny, polyphony and the cancer that is the FIA are trying to push the new gran turismo as an esport
it will crash and burn because its shit

iracing for sim stuff.
People competed like crazy over the Wipeout HD leaderboards and they do the same for BNG and they'll do the same for Omega Collection.
