HDDs have a little electric motor in them that spins at thousands of RPM. When that motor burns out the drive is dead, or sometime the reader head, another moving part, will just wear out. HDDs are marvels, but back up your shit.

I remember, I think it was Season 2 or 3 where they had to retest a Season 1 myth where a chicken was shot through an airplane window. If you're really digging into design, after a certain point you'll find that it is a continuous process. It's like a physical exercise or learning and practicing nearly any other skills. Repetition and practice makes you better, and I'll steal a sports cliche here. "What separates the pros and the beginner is the beginners practice until they get the fundamentals right, the pros practice until they can't get the fundamentals wrong." If that's too unclear, I meant the pros do it until the elements and principles and basics becomes second nature to them.
IIRC the current day style is mostly aim for clutter, but not overly chaotic, if that makes sense. The calendar one is mostly deciding which type you want to try practice making, the more utilitarian one or the poster style one.

Another thing that might help improve the fundamentals is breaking down things into their visual recipes. There is an art exercise related to this, give it a try if you want. Find a fairly simple line drawing you like, the simpler the better. Turn it upside down. Copy just what you see, exactly how you see it. This is not meant to turn you into michaelangelo overnight, it's more to help see things as is, in a 2d graphics kind of way.

you might be surprised at how accurate you can be when all you see is the element of art\design, such as line, and shape. Not what it's supposed to represent. This is one of those graphics paradox that if you want to depict a 'realistic' representational style, it actually helps to study it's abstraction or how to translate it into line and basic shapes.

This is just my own opinion and thinking on it, for me anything and everything can be used, once you understand the basics and fundamentals. And the fundamentals are not something that gets glossed over once, and never be picked up again. It's the meat and potatoes of things.

Graphic arts and graphic design shares it, via the elements and principles of art\design. The reason I bring this up is remember when we were talking about learning how to -create- your own template. By using the the 4 principles of design, a grid, and the specs or dimensions of a layout, as the basic start of any template creation.

It's like learning a verbal and written language, right. At first someone may just sound out some basic words or even letters, or they understand the text version, but they still have to get used to the speaking part. They repeat certain key words and phrases, enough to get them by for most everyday uses ie: "hello, goodbye, where is the washroom please, can you help me find a copy of futa faggot festival five: boimanko bonanza by reanon, it's not for me, it's for a friend".

But once they grasp the fundamentals and basics, then they are more able to 'read, speak and write' in that visual language.
