I'd like to see different biomes areas the player can live in. Each with different types of animals and plants to get that you can only get from a specific biome.

Bigger town layouts, implement actual paths that villagers will know to use, more meaningful interactions with your villagers, and expand on mayoral powers. I want to be able to tell newcomers where to put their house. To add some flair to it, maybe have them sometimes object to it, and you can either force them to put it where you want it (Bully), or find them a new spot. (No Bully) There should be more dialogue options when talking to villagers, and the way you treat them actually affects things.

I'd like the ability to play minigames with your friends while they visit your town. Say you have a pool table in your room, you go up to it and press A and it brings up a prompt asking "play billiards minigame?", your friend has to go up to the table and press A on it as well locking you both into the furniture grabbing pose until the prompt is answered by either person. If both say yes you'd begin playing a bare-bones pool simulator. Or if you have a pinball machine and your activate the prompt the camera would pan over the machine and you'd play pinball while a friend could press A on the side of the machine and watch SOMETHING, ANYTHING like this would be satisfying.
Something like this would be a nice addition to have more things to do with your friend while they visit.

I just want more activities for the villagers, they are always talking about going somewhere or eating with someone but that's just it. I want them to implement something like a cinema to go with villagers and watch cutscens, a forest to explore with them in a dungeon crawler style, being able to go on camping somewhere out of town, restaurants, ice cream shops etc.

It was called Magician's Quest and came out on the DS. It was okay, though you were sorta timelocked in the game as you could only learn 1 spell a day iirc. There was a 3DS sequel but it never saw an english release.

Game was notable for having a dating/girlfriend/boyfriend mechanic, and a lot of zany classmates that included cellphones and other anthropomorphic objects.

Being able to build things and take control of how your town looks is a major element that should be expanded upon.

I want the game to LOOK like the art style from the new Mario Kart course they made. That thing is beautiful. Get rid of the grid based towns (or make it less obvious), the locked camera angles, and combine the Gamecube islands with the 3DS island. Aka an island with mini games but also a house and unique NPCs.

In Animal Crossing for Gamecube, animals had better personalities. Some rough n tumble or jerkass animals would insult you or be rude, or maybe some tough animals would simply be neutral towards you in typical conversation. Look up the codes for the NES games, you can give the codes to Nook and he'll give you the games.
A few of the games can't be unlocked without a gameshark or having a GBA (and its cable to link with the GC) to visit the island though, like Super Mario Bros and Zelda.

I'd like the game to speed things up. That would mean better loading times, faster inventory management, having the fruits stack on their own and at least some way to speed through the dialogue, because I'm fucking tired of Nook slowly repeating the same lines every single time I buy an item. I also don't like how the grass degrades over time if you run on it. Some extra inventory space wouldn't hurt either, maybe they can merge the letters with the rest of the inventory since I already use them to hold items.

I always just used cheats to get the golden tools. They're kind of pointless after you've already caught everything. But having areas where it's always one season so you can catch all of the bugs and fish on your own time would be cool. They already have an island for eternal summer, so maybe they can have an Alaska-esque village where it's always winter and some kind of mid-west cities where it's always spring and fall.

I'd love to see a toolbox slot in your inventory for storing your tools in. I hate wasting 4 letter spots just to keep my inventory clean.

Obviously, I'd want animal interactions to not be so shitty. New Leaf had a lot that was good about it, but having three animals in the same town with all the exact same speech patterns and mannerisms is retarded.
"Server town" sounds interesting enough, but I prefer the "everybody has their own town and you can visit friends' towns" pattern.

Most importantly, somehow prevent burn-out. Every AC game I've played I love at first and get sick of within a month when I realize I'm not even playing for fun anymore, but just signing on every day to pick weeds, check rocks for bells, digging fossils, and talking to all the villagers so they don't get pissed.

A little more depth to villagers would be nice, even if it means less of them. Villagers could still fall into the old stereotypes but have individual quirks and histories, even if they're simple that you could learn about by being closer to them.

Writing letters to villagers who have left your town, potentially with the option to invite them back.

Instead of just a larger town an expandable one would be nice, the current town gets a little crowded at times.

Features from harvest moon like crops which would grow over the course of days.

More home customization, instead of just upgrades full renos which would allow the home to be customized more fully.

Arcade machines being back, with minigames and full nintendo classic games.

Constant updates would be neat with new items being added over the months after the games' release(not dlc)

Plus just more stuff to do, maybe an old mine to explore and gather in, full swimming, etc

It would be nice if, after reaching a certain friendship with a villager, they have some dialogue option where they ask if you think they should stay in the town forever or something. I doubt it'd happen, though.

They're pretty durable from my own fiddling about with them, certainly don't feel like they'll break if I hold them wrong or anything. There's a slide-lock built into the controllers for when they're locked onto the Switch itself or the grip-controller or anything, explicitly so they don't just fall out or get knocked out; hold the button on the back of it to slide the controller out, otherwise that shit ain't going anywhere.

New Leaf had a lot of content, but I got bored of it a lot sooner than the GC one. What I'd like to see is a mix of the NL content with the GC atmosphere.
In the GC one, you could directly ask for chores. I hated talking to them a lot in an attempt to get one.
The villagers, while fewer, had more distinct personalities even within the 6 or so subtypes. They had more unique dialog which made them stand out and made them more memorable. In NL, the personality subtypes still exist, but all characters within said subtypes are too identical. I felt like I was talking to the same bland characters sometimes.
The music was also more distinct as well. In New Leaf for the most part it seemed like I heard just 1 song playing in the background that was some generic background orchestra. In GC, I could easily tell the differences in the music when it was raining, a certain event, or sometimes even a certain hour of the day. (Every hour had its own theme. Even if you couldn't recognize the differences in the songs when the game started, you could tell the music changed on the hour. If NL did this I never noticed.)
While minor I also preferred the overheard view of the original. I never cared for the rolling log style introduced in WW.
The NES games were also fun. Even if playing a game within a game is pointless when they're easily pirateable, they made nice collectables and could be nice to take a break from doing other stuff in the game. The 2P option in some games could even be adapted to the improved multiplayer since the GC days.
