I can get porterhouses on sale for like $7 from a local place so I always stock up on them.

Wood is hit or miss because of how nonuniform it is. It's fine for slow cooking but wood grills are an utter pay in the ass and you have to constantly fuck with the embers to keep them hot once they've burnt down.
But the taste it leaves is by far the best, especially if you're using mesquite.
