granted, I don't think the AI is actually capable of using grenade launchers (though they have no problem using RPGs and hand grenades)

Installed Call of Chernobyl again yesterday with a shitload of addons. Warfare+dynamic factions relation is fun especially with ironmeme and azazel enabled if you don't mind changing faction and losing your stuff.
What are your favorite factions and why ?
mine is mercenary for now but it's the one I played the most, I need to try other factions

When I first started playing again, I was really digging Duty. Having a nice base and lots of bros with "discipline" was nice for a while. I've been playing a lot of iron/azazel lately though, and doing one-offs as a bandit is actually very entertaining. I've also gotten a soft spot for Monolith, since starting as them in azazel turns the brain scorcher off. I have the longest and comfiest lives as a merc, still, somehow.

Ecologists, I love the outfits, the base, and the high income from mutant parts. I'm cooling off on them recently after my last ironman character was shotgunned to death by a fellow ecologist blasting away at a chimera who leaped on me.

Such is life, eh?

I wish you didn't start right off the bat with an Eco Guard suit though, since it's decent equipment that lets you skip past some points of the hobo stage. There should be beginner equipment for them like an "Undergrad's Labcoat", that you as an intern from some science university wear while in the bunker, or maybe a "Guard Vest" for bodyguards sent in from outside the zone to accompany the expedition that are obviously cheap, poor quality fatigues and a vest purchased from the lowest bidder, so as to save more budget for the actual scientists (better protection than leather jacket, worse than military starting suit or sunrise suit). Then you can work your way up to the Eco Guard suit, Scientist suits, and SEVAs.

The suit is definitely an advantage, but it definitely hasn't saved my previous several characters. Maybe the biggest perk is friendly relations with all factions except bandits and monolith, being on good terms with the military in particular widens the areas you can safely visit, although it's uncomfortable for me to see them shooting loners and freedomers.

I actually don't mind that Ecologists have the most positive/neutral starting relationships, since it makes sense in context; aside from being an officially-sponsored presence in the Zone (eliminates hostility from Military and Duty), they're known for having a high number of medical specialists (nobody except assholes and Zone fanatics, like Bandits and Monolith, are going to exterminate the people that can actually render life-saving medical aid), paying top dollar for artifacts without having to go through illegal channels (Great for Loners and anybody who isn't trying to explicitly smuggle them into the black market), and hiring bodyguards for expeditions into the deeper parts of the Zone (Loners, Mercs, actually pretty much any faction except Bandits and Monolith). Gameplay wise, it makes them the easiest start for people who are just coming in to CoC/STALKER. I just want to have that same experience of freaking the fuck out over every combat encounter in the beginning that I get with other factions' starting suits due to lack of rad, anomalous, and wound protection without having to go naked, which the Eco Guard suit goes some ways to negating (not by much, but still enough to provide a notably different new game experience)

All the good points of Duty and Freedom without any of the retard logic attached to it.

Honestly unless I'm starting in rookie village (where the carpark is easy enough to clear, especially if you grab the AKS-74U), I just play a vulture to clear the hobo stage. Wait till you find people killing eachother and loot the dead before the survivors can. You can sell ammo, optics, grenades and medical supplies (though I'd keep the last one) without worrying about durability.

Clear Sky faction is great. I like their base, map, and suits. I actually ended up making some minor mods to the Battle Helmet they use for headgear, so it's a viable alternative to the Merc and NBC masks. I added rad protection increases to the breathing mask and plexiglass coating upgrades, as well as increased their costs. The end result is that fully upgraded, you can get decent rad protection comparable to that of a base merc mask and more impact + chemical protection, at the cost of more weight and still being outpaced by either alternate mask fully upgraded, and you have to find the tool kits to do so. I also ended up adding G1 nightvision to both the Merc and NBC masks, as well as to the full slot NBC suit in place of its G2 vision, for balance and consistency purposes.

STALKER's AI, for its faults, sucks at hitting moving targets and doesn't instantly aim at point blank targets. Their shove move also makes them easy to kill with a knife as it doesn't actually do anything but shift your aim a bit if you have a knife out.

Even in the open it's often possible to run in an L pattern (run diagonally toward them then make a right angle shift and go staight at them when you are close) at solo enemies.

Naaahhh dude I usually gun people down from like 30m or more, or utilize choke points for CQB so I can funnel people into my guns. I've never tried to get that close to hostile Stalkers is all. I outmaneuvre and outgun them from a medium range erry time.

Knives are good for stealth if you're that sort of fag.

you basically try to evade their swipe then sprint after them keeping on their back and stabbing them repeatedly until they go down
their AI seems to not let them attempt another attack until they get a certain distance away from you after swiping you once so if you stay on them theyll just keep trying to run from you

It's doable if you have very low weight or if you have a ton of stamina artifacts. I'd kill lone bloodsuckers during hobo phase by sprinting after them and staying up their ass and using the knife's secondary attack. As long as you're super close they can't cloak away and if they managa eo pull away just zig zag all over the general area and they won't be able to effectively attack you.

Bear in mind, however, that because of the larger area of combat that results from this you can drag other enemies into it who can gang up on you, and that it probably looks stupid as fuck from an outside perspective. Although this doesn't matter much given it's single player anyways, and the idea of a (probably drunk) lone rookie screaming incoherently and waving around a hunting knife while sprinting after a very confused bloodsucker is pretty entertaining.

I usually try to hide behind train cart and snipe them off, but they either surround me or just headshot me from a distance. Any tips on what to do with that specific place?

Yep its need to be in the same place as it was on the gamedata, else the file will be ignored.

It's usually in that folder, but what was throwing me off was the fact that it's usually not visible so I had no way to tell if it would overwrite the other or the path would point to it.

some of the walking is skipped by talking to npcs, for example when you're with the scientists and you go to the anomaly with the squad outside and then you encounter a controller, you can talk to the leader and warp straight back. if you hate walking talk to npcs to haul your ass to locations

After being so overpowered from my gear for so long, it felt really damn good to have to battle my way through an entrenched Monolith battalion in Subsistence Mode, creeping from body to body using the first dead man's gun to kill the second, the second's gun to kill the third, and so on.

Drop what the fuck you're doing and go do it.

I'm taking 300 rounds of 5.56 for my HK M416, 100 rounds of buckshot for whatever shotgun I wind up picking up, and another 150 rounds of .45 for my P220. Load for bear, my man.

I like to travel light, so I can take everything remotely interesting or useful that I find back with my at the end of a given hike or mission. I just can't stand the idea of some fucking Freedom commie strolling in and finding something useful because it couldn't fit in my rucksack.
I typically bring 100 rifle bullets - enough for 100 kills assuming nothing but headshots, and as much pistol ammo as I can carry that doesn't bring me above 30% capacity. I also only fight mutants with knives, because only humans are worth bullets.
My mistake was less that I don't prepare properly, and more that I neglected to do my standard preparation before impulsively strolling into the brain scorcher simply because I happened to be nearby.
I used about 13 first aids and ate a few dozen bandages, but I made it out. About 2/3 of the way, I popped a fucker with a revolving grenade launcher. He had 12 grenades on him, so I just stopped sneaking and checked every room by filling it with dying before entering. It worked out great, actually.

I just wish the rest of the game was like this. I wish that when I wandered into the commieblock buildings around Jupiter, 30-40 Monolith would just line up in the windows and pour out of the doorways to come hunt me. I wish large platoons of troops would sweep the zone hunting me in general. One-on-one battles, or even one-vs-squad, has become so easy that it's humdrum and routine. I remember a great mod for CoP called SMRTR STALKER or something like that, and it added some absolutely absurd monolith spawns and patrols and was really fun.
I may try that faction warfare CoC mod and see if that does the trick, though I don't care for the idea of commanding troops or capturing points or any of that micromanagement nonsense. I just want to take out an entire army single-handed and then pick through the carcases on the ankle-deep bloodmarsh of victory.

Every time I try, I just get bored and stop again. I don't know why.
I love the beginning, and I love that first lab in agroprom that ends with the controller ambushing you at the end, but the gameplay mechanics in that game are so archaic compared to CoP. I guess I could mod it up and all that, but with CoC, I have all three games basically put together, so it's probably fine this way.

I played through SoC a couple years ago and really liked it, but then I went to play the other two and even with patches they ran like absolute dogshit and I couldn't stomach it. I have a better rig now, so what patches/mods do you stalkers suggest?

CoP runs fine vanilla. if you're fine with ~88 fov, otherwise you have to get a fov switcher, I hear scopes break if you change fov but I haven't bothered using it

Assuming both are on the latest official patch Clear Sky needs SRP. CoP will be fine vanilla but you might want a mini-mod to get back the Russian VA then again the English voice acting should be experienced at least once. If you're picky maybe also through on a grapics mod but that's up to you.

AMK + AA was harder because the mutant spawns were batshit, I entered the agroprom area for the first time to find a pseudogiant stomping a military patrol. Multiple firefights ended due to a pack of wild dogs mauling my opponent. Burers and controllers wandered the open plains freely until they were inevitably eaten by dogs. It was quite an experience and very pretty.

Duty and Bandits have formed an alliance in mine, as well as Duty turning against Loners.

Rostok is total insanity in warfare mode.
I've also found that I can't get companions to fuck off with the mod active. When I tell them that it's time to part ways, they just keep following me forever. The only recourse is to leave them "guarding this area" forever, so now there's random guards posted up all over the zone.

It's like the merchants/leaders just see a rookie looking for a job and decide they'd rather have him band his head against a wall in hopes that it'll leave a dent before he gets himself killed, just so they don't have to pay the reward.

so the guy on /games/ suggested a run where I don't swap out of my leather jacket nor do I sawp out my starting gun (in this case a AK74U) untill I do two objectives, one of them I've done (Wipe out the bandit base in the dark valley) and the other to get to the wish granter. The only problem is I know the area around the wish granter is highly irradiated so I dunno if I can do this in just a leather jacket even with upgrades and a gas mask.

It's a fan mod using Cryengine 3, which probably definitely means never ever status confirmed.

In CoC or in SoC? In CoC you could just stock up on anti-rads and radioprotectant and tank your way through it. Upgrade the gas mask and leather jacket to max also. If you can get some artefact slots fill them with anti-radiation artefacts.

That being said - what should I start with? Any essential bug fix mods? SoC or CoP?

CoC been recording the entire thing so far and when it's done, fail or pass I'll edit it all together, splice out the crashes and load zones and put it on jewtube as one big "movie"

SoC with Zone Reclamation Project for bugfixes. Maybe get some kind of weapon model/animations overhaul mod (avoid anything that alters weapon balance) and Absolute Texture mods for SoC. Also STALKER Shaders MAX can be a good addition. Basically, focus on bugfixes and graphics, not gameplay alterations.

Start with SoC, ensure it's at patch 1.0005/1.0006 and then grab ZRP. Optionally stick a graphics mod on too but I don't think that's necessary.

Do quests and you'll get one eventually. I also find the Swamps reliably give me tools. You can also spam quickload at traders to reset their inventories, sometimes they carry tools.

yeah I lucked out with the duty trader at rostok and got beginner and advanced tools in his inventory in one go. I've found expert tools in the past but this time not really.

When it's don I'll post it on /games/ and link that thread here. The guy who gave me the challenge wasn't clear on side arms so I've been straight using the AK74U only

When I increase my FoV past the default, it causes major first person clipping with the gun models. (The hollow shoulders/arms of the character become visible and it looks niggerish)

FOV slider affects your vision cone.
HUD FOV slider affects the scale of your HUD elements including your gun and arm models.
Set HUD FOV to about 20-25.

I'm using Misery with a few personal tweaks. There is no "fov_hud" or "hud_fov" console command. Is there any other method?

Monolith. I like the flavor of cultist that entrench themselves in the nastiest, most hostile pit in the zone, waving their magic rock around to draw people in, and fuck anyone that tries to get close.

I just wish they weren't so boring and easy. Barely anyone has anything to say or do, and all you have to do is wait for a comrade to get mulched by a psuedogiant or something else ridiculous and suddenly you have ludicrously powerful equipment. They pretty much skip the hobo phase entirely which kinda sucks the fun out of it. Also having to travel back to pripyat every time you want to sell something becomes a royal pain in the ass. At least the everyday monolith members carry around huge wads of cash, especially compared to your average cheeki breeki or loner who tend to be broke as a joke.

The only one I have despised so far with that mod setup has been Banditos. It was funny for the first couple of hours, but the novelty wore off quickly when I tried to return to bandit territory with a truckload of shit to sell. Every single fucking time I got close to a group of them they'd get smeared by whatever other faction was nearby. This must have happened five or six times as I made my way from one side of the zone to the other. The niggers are totally incapable of holding their own for more than a few minutes at a time. It's not like it's even a real challenge faction, it's more like a faction of alcoholic babies and you're their babysitter.

Well, you don't become a criminal because you're highly skilled and possess valuable skills, so it's pretty realistic that they're the most laughably useless faction.

But even loners and ecologists even wipe the floor with them. Nothing's worse than getting beaten up by the class nerd or that weird kid that sits by himself at lunch.

To be fair I like this to an extent only because this prevents what happened with dayz when it was an Arma II mod where people would host servers, keep them locked long enough so they could get the best gear unopposed as well as vehicles. Make a camp off map and then once they were set up open the server.

My only main concern here is also inventory synching which Dayz still has an issue with.

I'm of the opinion that you should be able to do whatever you want with your own server and that if the host does shit you don't like just go to a different one.
No Co-op or server tools just means I've lost all interest in the game. Maybe a few years from now someone will make a Co-op mod for CoC or some dedicated STALKER makes some unofficial server tools for RoH.

Right so started editing the footage. Issue I found was I never properly split my discord audio from the game so it gets picked up. Though so far out of pure chance there's a segment where the discord audio preludes a situation unintentionally. The good news is my voice never surfaces because I keep the mic recording off in OBS.

In other news the footage I have even editing out all the loading, the crashes (I had several in X-16 due to the zombified stalkers by that one propane cylinder) is about 2 hours plus. I dunno if jewtube will take it and if push comes to shove I'll edit it further into halves or quarters

So it's a maybe now? I'm starting to lose hope in this dev team if they can't just make up their minds on things and give us an answer, this should be a simple yes or no question but it's almost like they are trying to dance around it so they don't have to give a definitive answer yet.

I am personally very worried about them hosting these large servers and selling skins and shit without giving the players the possibility to host their own servers. It is going to turn into the next shoot on sight Dayz clone in no time.

I can only hope it is not going to be shit when it is released and when those guys are settling that their server will be central only as in only they have the servers then it is shit, since I don't have much interest with such games playing with random players I prefer playing with friends only. With that being said I am not having any high hopes with the overall development of RoH.

You might need to get some achievement before people start surrendering. I never noticed anyone surrender until I got the achievement, I just don't know how I got that achievement either. I think it was just a "kill dudes" until you get it

The "Silver or Lead" achievement? I have that but the description only says that there is a increased chance for a 2nd stash upon interrogation, it doesn't mention increased surrendering chance at all, and I hardly see the NPC surrendering when they got wounded several times instead they feign it and thus stand up and fight again after a short while or so.

The reason "no coop" statement was posted in the first place, because in stream one of our Russian dev said "it will not happen". When I asked about that. After some hours I shared the news with community, just to find out that old statement "coop and server hosting after release" was "maybe" all along instead 100% certain thing to happen. Got it straight from the founder of RoH instead of middleman.
It's just clusterfuck sometimes with the language barrier. with 25 Russians on the team where only 2 speak English can be a pain. I also noticed the habit of people misunderstanding what RoH actually is so I made a little information dump with the new "maybe, not our priority"

Please feel free to share your thought about all of this, I will always share what western community thinks for Russian devs.

Of course the first server will be stationed on Russia, second EU, Then we move out to the rest of the world. You can imagine that this won't be cheap. But if suddenly we get a spike of hundreds of thousands stalkers wanting to play you can be sure GSC takes notice and is gonna have another nice cup of vodka with us.

They have no rights for STALKER franchise, so there is only so much they can do. Modding, on the other hand, is free. Besides the online code is probably on it's first stages, so there is no point (yet) to release anything to give players / fans / modders to work with, since the code can change. If and when the code and the game are taking the final steps with the release, I'm pretty sure they'll have a better chance to give the tools to the modders. You can't foresee things like these. GSC Game Studios would kill them, if these guys begged dev money from the fans.

Besides, they'll need the server nonetheless if they are planning to do region server hosting. Playing with your own dedicaded / Hamachi co-op servers isn't the top priority here. Since this whole "We thought this was SoC singleplayer co-op" false rumor drama got out of hand, people need to focus on what's relevant here. Ditching the server funding thing would destroy the ultimate goal the main developer had in mind.

The dev team or founder or whoever seems to not understand what people mean when asking for co-op, we just want the option to play with some buddies and only them, doesn't need a story or major objective, the game would be pretty much the same. but maybe using "co-op" is the wrong word.
How does this effects whether or not we can host our own servers? Do you need to ask GSC if players can do so or something? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense since CS and CoP had multiplayer with the option to host your own server and GSC has always been ok with players doing almost whatever with the STALKER games as long as you don't try to make a profit of of them.
What better way to stress and bug test the code then to allow people to host their own servers, giving people more freedom to break things will always be better then a controlled environment, sure maybe in the beta and alpha versions there is no point but once the game is officially "released" it should come with server hosting and modding tools, give the server tools the ability to auto download server updates and have a little disclaimer with each new update that mods will most likely be broken and you'd be set.
Why do people seem to think that player made and official servers can't coexist? the Project Reality devs seem to have this same problem. Some people enjoy playing with randoms and others would rather play with buddies, just because player made servers exist doesn't mean nobody will use the official ones if it's a problem of quality control or whaterver then just make it so that player made serves don't show up in the masterlist at first, average players with just use official servers and smaller groups who want a private server can just share the ip.
I grantee most thought this was going to be Call of Chernobyl with multiplayer or at least something similar. Nobody really wants SoC or CoP with multiplayer we want the Zone with multiplayer, an open world version of stalker where you can explore the zone with a group of buddies hunting mutants and getting into fraction wars, but with news of server tools going from "yes" to "no" and now a "maybe" some of us are a little more then disappointed.
Whats relevant is that the biggest deciding factor on whether or not I'm gonna give a single shit about this game when from a "yes" to a "maybe, it's not a top priority" There is more then enough Survival FPS MMOs with some PvE, I'm not going to waste my time on another one that is grantee to turn into a kill on sight deathmatch that happens to have some NPCs you can shoot but nobody gives a shit about because PvP is the only thing normalfags and shitters seem to care about in multiplayer games.
They don't have to "ditch" anything, the game doesn't suddenly become a completely different game and official servers became impossible because people can host their own servers.
This is even a bigger reason why server tools should be released, how long you think it'll be for the US or hell ever the EU server up and running? That's not going to be done in a few months and I'd be surprised to see it done a few years after the Russian one, most people are going to ether try and play on the Russian server or just not ever bother and lose interest.
Get attacked by every other player, eventually die since you'll have more players trying to kill you then monsters or NPCs, rinse and repeat.

I played DayZ back when it had about 5-10 servers in total. This is way, way before there were any privately hosted servers. Guess what happened, they were almost always completely filled with players. Of course, there were other issues, like the fact that player data was stored on a common hive, which meant people would server hop all the time to avoid ambushes or do looting runs at the airport.

My point being, this was a bad way to handle servers for that mod, and it will be bad for this one. For many many months, the demand for server slots will be far higher than the supply, so everything will be full. Plus, no ability to control player population (outside of manual moderation by the RoH staff) will mean griefers, cheaters and other wonders of a popular online game with low security features (I refuse to believe they will be able to patch up security holes).

Don't remind me, I remember my gear not loading and having to start over a few times among other problems. I've been thinking of starting my own DayZ server with some addons that add stuff like AI fractions and less retarded zombies but Real Virtuality 3 makes X-Ray look like a elegant young lady.

Silly me for assuming sony vegas would render things it was told to. Went to upload 2 and 3. 2 uploaded, we lost power over here while 3 was going up. Put in all the info for part 2, didn't pay any mind about the fact all preview thumbnails were black screen. figured bad luck with generation. Go to watch it and turns out both part 2 and 3 were rendered wrong and are just 2 1/2 hours of nothing.

Gotta rerender 2 and 3, thankfully saved their project files. but it'll take longer to up Anatoly's story

vanilla cop is fine, although i heard soc is better vanilla

leagues better in terms of atmosphere. CoP has a bit more polish to it. But SoC feels more alive

Short answer: yes, give it a try. A slightly longer answer: start with SoC, with ZRP and some graphical mods. Do not give up in the early game despite the shitty gunplay, at least get to Agroprom and get an AK74.

What difficulty are you playing on?
If it's anything less than Master, you're wasting your time. For any anons that don't already know, the difficulty levels increase damage across the board so dudes die quickly, but you die quickly too.

Also military tend to wear oddly beefy armor so he may have just eaten it.

A common misconception. Having dug around game files, it has been determined that player damage drops with higher difficulty, making enemies tankier.

One thing I've noticed is that rank seems to give bonuses to enemies. Higher ranked military take a lot more damage than the grunts, and often times master stalkers are incredibly beefy even when they're not in an exosuit. I haven't checked the game files though so maybe it's just me.

Fun fact: in SoC, the weapon hit_power stat is inverted in the weapon .ltx files. In all other cases, configs for different difficulties go "Novice, Stalker, Veteran, Master", but in weapon configs, it is "Master, Veteran, Stalker, Novice". This is very, very easy to test - either use any mod weapon files and edit those, or extract vanilla weapon files with a data unpacker. Set the first value in a hit_power line to like 20, and the last to 0. Then try using the weapon ingame and switching difficulties on the fly. The 20 will apply to Master, the 0 will apply to Novice.

On second pass things are looking weirder.

Ah, should've specified that I've only seen the rank bonuses on CoC. It's been ages since I last played SoC.

Couldn't you go into the game files and change the damage values yourself? As I remember it was fairly easy to edit shit, notepad was all you needed.
Also, you said you were using a shotgun. Shotguns are pretty bad against stalkers in my experience unless you're using slugs. They do tend to stagger them a lot more often than rifles. If you're up against military I suggest switching to a rifle with AP ammo.

Weapon balance mods are the only solution. Depending on what mod/modpack you play with, there are probably different mods you can install, but I am not sure which.

Everyone speaks in snownigger regardless of what language option you select. The only exceptions are some advertisements running over the intercom in Rostok for Duty recruitment and the bar, and a couple of lines scattered here and there from various NPCs, usually merchants beckoning you.

That's the "handling" stat on weapons. It's annoying but it's by design, so upgrade handling on whatever weapon you're thinking about. Otherwise you'll have to edit their file yourself, which will be easier if you have a weapon mod since it overwrite the defaults.

Faction specific traders should sell those, I don't really know about loner traders but Nimble should always have some exo skeleton for buying, though I always played with the Outfit addon so it might be a bit different for vanilla CoC.

There's a Ukrainian mod on modDB.

Nimble will have one regardless of mod (note he sells them in CoP), but he'll charge much more than other traders.

Start with SoC, then play CoP. Clear Sky is okay, but lots of people skip it.

Also that video commentator is retarded. The games are perfectly playable vanilla. For first playthroughs you might want to pick up some bugfix mods, but worry about modding it after you play through it once.

It's not a perfect game merger, more of a map merger. They added some things back in from SoC, but content-wise it's rather anemic. The "storymode" it has is really ad-hoc and awkward. It's loosely SoC's story, but with some extra shit from CoP added and no real guidance throughout the whole thing. It's just "Go investigate a bunch of labs" without any real reason to do so. If I hadn't already played through the games vanilla I would have no idea what the hell was going on.

Also the pacing in CoC is fucked. You're not going to get the true STALKAN experience using it. CoC is more like a big stalker sandbox than a game merger.

I installed DoctorX's questlines, but the second I turned off the machine in Radar, I lost all interest. I keep doing different challenges to stave off the boredom. My "human pacifist" run was at least interesting though (Can't kill any people and can only use a knife on mutants)

Most annoying issue I remember - reload a save, all hostile NPCs in the area now know your location and start moving towards you, even if they had not yet detected you when you saved. What fixes this?
