Fallout 1 has better writing due to the lack of factions. Fallout 2 might have a few factions that you can help and join, but most of the quests involve non-political context. As the result, the quests and dialogues felt more personal. Helping Torr, finding an old man's gold watch, repelling ghosts from a farm, outsmarting mafia bosses, etc.I really enjoyed the side quests and plot that don't involve any faction in NV. NCR's, House's, Caesar's, and Brotherhood's missions are all bland.

Then there's a lack of interesting characters compared to Fallout 2. For example the companions. Back in FO2 we had Vic, Lenny, Cassidy, and Sulik. In NV, we got fucking Felicia Day out of all people. Has Avelone lost his touch?

I don't know, there's a fundamental flaw in the Courier's motivation. It's not a good main quest material to begin with. My suggestion is to make Benny the end boss by letting him to take over Lucky 38. I found Benny to have the potential to be a really interesting villain, yet his story ended just like that.

Not really. If you've read the delivery contract, it mentions the fact that failure to deliver the package due to losing it will result in a fine and/or mercenaries sent after you. So the courier's choice is either to go after Benny and deliver the package to House, or to become an outlaw and die in the desert/get enslaved to pay off his dept.

I think he meant after you deliver said package. But then it's up to your personal motivations for your pc. Vegas gives you a lot of options to decide why your character does what they do, allowing you to make your own character yours. You can be doing it because you believe in a tech golden age under house, or just cause he pays good and gives you a rich mans suite, could be loyal to the ncr, or believe theyre best for safety, could believe legion is the best for the wastes, etc. The fact that theres no set decision for why you do it is one of vegas best strong points, you have a lot of options to decide what you want your personal motivations to be to win hoover dam.

I don't know why so many people think Independent is a good idea. In the Independent ending, the Mojave stagnates. I finally got around to playing this for the first time.

I went Casesar's Legion, fully intending to off Caesar during surgery and rule the wasteland myself. Then the game put Legate Lanius in charge, and I couldn't find a way to off him in the story. So, I basically went through the whole game systematically spontaneously killing off all of the factions to hand over rule to a guy I wanted to kill. I could have just obliterated everyone in the Legion and probably rule, but I didn't want to play the entire last mission again.

Also, Caesar's voice actor is so uninspiring and uncharismatic that I have no idea how anybody would follow that guy.

The faction I wanted to choose would be Yes Man/Independent but with the Courier taking over from house as a benevolent dictator of sorts using available technology to extend his lifespan it's available from the Big MT and maybe a few other places. The problem is that ending is portrayed as anarchy instead so I went with House since he's the best option for the next ~100-200 years or so.

Anyone got any good energy weapon mods? I'm bored of bullet weapons and melee aka EHH EASY MODO the skill. Most of the energy wep mods I've seen are either ugly nifskope hackjobs or reskins. Closest I have is Classic Fallout Weapons but Jesus Christ on the cross those things are fucking hideous. The textures make Bethesda's work look passable. I liked Big Mt as an area. I came through with high energy weapons, so I got some really nice weapons. Also, The lore you find helps tie Dead Money and Lonesome Road together.

I've learned that in order to enjoy OWB, you have to take it as a "joke" DLC.
First time i played it i didn't like it because NV and other DLC's try to be taken seriously, but this one tries to be different, like a parody.
If you take that approach, you will have a good time exploring Big Mt.

On a side note, I liked Anchorage, but hated how it restricted your inventory, making it feel more like Call of Duty than actual RPG. Lonesome Road's story and setting are also more boring than Anchorage.

I used to hate LR too, until I discovered you can side with Ulysses instead of fighting him. I consider that the "true" ending of both LR and New Vegas. Seriously, I thought LR was a boring, linear shoot-em-up, but when I did that ending it made it all worth it. Still like OWB and DM better though, just HH had to take a backseat.

tl;dr LR where you fight ulysses is just boring filler; the playthrough where you ally with him wraps up the entire game in an incredible way.

I pirated it a few days ago to try it because I heard good things about its dlc(Like Oblivion and Shivering Isles and I actually liked SI). I haven't gone to DLC content yet and so far it's simply not a good game. No system on the game feels like they focused on it, everything is very shallow, including the settlement system that I was very disappointed with. I haven't got a single SPECIAL or Perk check in dialogues so I think they're removed completely, so roleplaying is completely gone. And as a shooter it's not as good as actual shooter games like UT or something. Unless you're going to mod it to hell, or have a fetish with settlement system and want larp with it I wouldn't recommend even pirating it. Some anons also said if you used a mod to remove story and focus completely on survival or something it might be better, I haven't tried it yet

What are you smoking? The way you convince Lanius to fuck off is to point out the Legion can't occupy it's own territory, new Vegas, and the NCR at the same time. And even then, Lanius only goes away to gather more strenght for yet another assault on the dam.

If you do manage to convince him to step down, the courier does tell Lanius to think about his methods and hopes that he sees things in a different light when they meet again. Lanius is a criminally underused character, and he's not exactly the mindless brute everyone thinks he is. It's a shame they had to cut out most of the legion's content, House is clearly the superior faction out of all of them.

Legion with more content definitely would have been the top tier faction.

They had military technology above gang-level, and gangs posed a real threat to NCR. The spears only come in due to them having more meat than machine and they realized the value of meat shields every now and then, so recruits get melee and nothing else outside of a Legionaries leading them provided sporadic fire. The ones with spears are the Wimp Lo's of New Vegas, basically - Legion tactics are the tire the enemy out with the new recruits too, holding their capable soldiers in the back to strike when both sides of the front are exhausted, having shitty equipped soldiers operating in larger numbers synergizes with that tactic as it whittles down enemy supplies and energy.

They are still organized well, they had a formalized military organization which was based off what modern military organizations are still based off. They had supplies and manpower to back up a lot of the their threats. I don't like the Legion, I think they're faggots who deserve to lose, but they're not a faction of spearchuckers or Zulu-tier by any stretch, or at least everyone else is mostly Zulu-tier as well.

Keep in mind too that technically the NCR also uses low-tier guns, they're just slightly above the Legion in weapon tiers. A lot of good it does the NCR when most of their soldiers barely have any training to begin with, which is why they have struggles against the Legion and gangs/bandits.

It doesn't matter which faction you choose, it will eventually swallow up other factions, or be swallowed by a bigger one.
The choice can only be a gamble. You as a courier have no worldly experience outside of a little spot in nevada/california. It is impossible for you to independently formulate your own idea about who should rule without bias.
An independent ending is the best solution. New Vegas doesn't need a president, an autocrat, or a god king. As long as someone is willing to stand up, it can sustain itself forever. NCR and Legion can have their war elsewhere.
