I'd say that if you have an unlimited data plan with good speeds and funds to buy extra harddrives then go for it. That's how i started so it's the only advice i feel really comfortable giving.
If you lack these things i'd suggest that you comb through places, find stuff you like and some stuff that's hard to find elsewhere then continue amassing slowly. Yep. That's the keyword, handmade, or at least convincingly hand rendered looking for the script family. Honestly it's probably not my favorite, because it's a pain in the ass to really do well, and if you really want it to look good chances are you either have to do some customization or modifying, or hand-write it. But it will never be as legible as printing, but it is still one of the oldest family type around.

Other than needing to be able to write in script for a signature, I personally am not a yuge fan of that typeface family. It's borderline decorative, can be difficult to render well, and it's not the most legible out of the roster.

The kitchen knife equivalent of typeface families are the sans serifs. They're neutral enough to fit in most projects and the different weights/ italics create separation of elements.

But more seriously, mostly the second, to create the first. With a simple but versatile enough collection, for a general creation of layout, not really for re-creating something very specific or specialized. It's for rough to medium to fine enough haxing.

eg: if you were to recreate the text layout of the gene kelly ad for example. With this kit in mind, you might be able to recreate about 90-95% of the ad or close enough. The text part of the ad uses a sans serif for the sub title, possibly a bold variation or extrabold, and likely an oldstyle family for the body text. The main title Gene Kelly's Flavor Tips is done in script. The script might not match exactly since there is a lot of variation in that family due to obvious reasons. But the oldstyle and bold\extra bold sans serif, there isn't a yuge amount of wild variations among that family.

So with this kit, it might not recreate it 99-100%, but it would be close to the general idea. The pdf notes on the typeface general family iirc has good examples of Oldstyle, Modern, and sans serif, slab serif. I'd say the most commonly used in nearly all layouts and designs are oldstyle, modern, and san serif family.

The guy that mentored me had a collection of original printings of vintage car ads from the late 50-60s. They were pretty interesting stuff, you can see that was nearing the end period of car fins and so on. I think the stuff from those eras and periods, might still have a sense of adventure. Some of the current day stuff, I don't know maybe it's just me. But a lot of it seems too much insular looking, too much navel gazing despite the superficial 'diversity'.

I have to apologize in advance if I sound contradictory or unclear, but don't worry too much about the exact typeface right now, although what user said here about a sans serif
is not wrong. Sans is used a lot of designs. That said from what I've seen, so are Oldstyle, and Moderns are still in use as well. Again the pdf actually has some good examples and explanation. So let's say for example, yes Futura from the sans serif family, that's going in the kit. I'd put it something like this.
-Futura, regular version, italic version, bold(or extra bold) version, thin version.

I don't remember the example 100%, but iirc it might have leaned close to a decorative. I thought it was a sans but it might have had a very small, too small of a serif. With a true sans serif family, there is absolutely no serifs. No exceptions, otherwise it's not a sans serif. It's part of it's austere charm. :^)
