The OVA references the comic did are irrelevant to this since they were from before 2006, which is when Sega started tightening up on mandates when seeing the shit Archie'd been making. The only exception to this is the reference in Sonic Boom, which is therefore notable. Otherwise, Ian stated specifically they can't reference the OVA.

The custom char sections will be the weakest, but damn if I'm not a whore for custom characters. Hope you can change the size/scale of some things, and be given more than just plain colours. Then again, being it's a gadget based character- it limits you in what works. (If you want your shit to look logical and match- which I bet most won't).
Maybe they should have let you make multiple OCs for other play styles (Gamma style character, Amy style character, gadgets, etc) so Sonic builds up his own Freedom Fighters made up of your OCs.

IIRC, there's a screencap explaining why Sonic attracts autism- and it boiled down to the simple art-style making it super easy for autists and low-skill people to fit into the community.

You've got those that'll make their OC.
You've got those that'll do it ironically.
And you've got those that'll make an attempt to make something that looks like it fits in the world.

i used to have several back when i was making early stories. i never directly related them to sonic however, they were merely friends or acquaintances, while the characters figured their own story. a google search of my name will reveal these characters.

I've always for some reason been intrigued by anthropomorphism ever since I was young. MLP was an interest I held until I was 8, I played Nintendogs and wanted a DS for that reason. I created several moshi monsters when i was 12 due to the abstractness of the characters.

Maybe it's that difference. I know what humans are so what are the creatures that we can think up based on other ones that are different? Maybe it's just that, I'm not sure.

This extends to Splatoon since they're squids/humanoids.

however I want to discuss this as I feel I never gave it proper closure when I left it behind.

I joined SFW a long time ago, the Sonic Fanon Wiki, which was one haven of several where you could express your stories. However, i felt uncomfortable there, and made my stories elsewhere. The story focused on this one character and several friends fighting threats while meanwhile a bigger story was happening. To summarise, I'll give a description of what I wrote below.

"Two raccoons, Tara and Crystal live in the Blue Ridge Zone (based on Sonic Chronicles) and have a whole bunch of friends. They stop threats every one in a while, Sonic sees them as viable friends."

For 2011-2012 all I was doing was writing little stories like this. But I didn't feel comfortable with the characters… there was nothing TO them, and the designs I would post would be merely drawings. So I later ended it by creating a backstory, which goes like this.

"The two were normal civilians, living as young kids, when a meteor was about to strike from space. The two were caught in the blast, but the god from the heavens had noted that an evil had done this to prevent certain events from happening (thus would wipe the entire planet) and the two were sent to Sonic's world, to recover, while the gods found some way to revert the crisis. Thus Crystal and Tara were given amnesia, and lived peacefully with random friends and crud.

Before the end, the other characters were all wiped, and the two soon returned to normal life, with no recollection of any of the experiences they had (all the stories I wrote) and life went back to normal."

There was nothing to the characters… and all I ever thought of them was of supernatural feats, which I now have to be in a certain mood for.

though none of the options would even render them playable anyway it doesn't matter since I don't care about the game for a plethora of reasons.
I did it back then because my idea of creating big stories was to have a character with superpowers go around and do crud, which well yeah was already taken by Sonic anyway.

Jokes aside… I always strayed away from making them related to Sonic, merely having it take place in the world was enough.

The ability they all have, which is simply turning into a squid is only really helpful for them in the game. They can also lead normal lives like we can, which leaves a more grounded feeling, compared to what it was with the two characters, and the several others which got wiped from existence, with all the god stuff. I feel better also because I finished the story, something I was wanting.

Splatoon's story is a bit more flexible. Yes they're evolved squid, surely we evolved from something, some people say fish so it isn't that farfetched. But it's more loose, and the avatar that's customisable makes it so. Sonic in the Sonic series is the Sonic, the hero, in Splatoon that can be literally anyone, the story can move around that so easily. So it's much easier in that regard since the story is designed so that 'you' have involvement in everything, so that 'you' can be anyone, and thus stories are more flexible.

It's why I can have a group care about the Octarians because it's part of the world, or having school squids that dislike Turf War, aspects of the world that I can use because they've got a lack of elaboration.

Sonic doesn't work like that for me anymore.
I wasn't alone either, my friend had…. I'll say had but idk the true state, a character, several, too.
Though again even with the options you wouldn't be able to recreate that one either.

I guess it fits in with the theme of the game, people were bringing it up, and heck, it'll be big I guess.
