The only "hard" pokemon game was gen 1 because all the limitations, The rest of the series was Easy to Very Easy mode with gen 5's hard mode being the only somewhat challenging thing.
Shit got even easier in gen 6 and with gen 7 the series became one small step away from becoming a walking sim. Even though they are due for a remake, I kinda doubt there will be remakes because they're still playable on the current console. They could just release the games on VC and have them be bank compatable, but that might get them less money so they might do remakes anyway. What I would prefer to see is proper sequels, like a game set in kanto/johto set several years after gen 1-2 and things have changed dramatically, kinda like what b/w2 did but with a larger time interval.

Fixed that for you. The 10% with actually good movepools tend to be the ones you see on 90% of teams, go figure. Salazzle stands out among shit however since all it has is a shitty stab combo, dragon pulse hitting pretty much nothing and hidden power.

The ability itself isn't bad, it just found itself on a pokemon that has no business using it, and the same is true for merciless on toxapex. Now if you were to swap these 2 abilities you'd have something going on but sadly that isn't the case.

I really can't talk about VGC 2015 (CHALK) since I was not following it but VGC 2016 (BIG 6) had the smallest pool ever. That being said the winner had an anti-meta team. I don't believe in the Power Creep though, that is giving GF too much credit since that implies that they are designing the Pokemon to be strong and that they actualy understand what makes a good pokemon. Everything good ever is pure luck. The results of GF trying to balance things are: Talonflame Nerf(now he is worthless when it wasn't op, just splashable), Archeops, Regigigas, Slaking (Fucked by a negative Ability). You could argue that Alolan pokemon being super slow is their way of "balancing" the speed curve and yet again fucking things up.

I can see how most Alola-mons would be disappointing. Most sport a base speed stat of around 60-70, which puts them in that awkward range where they're too fast to be good trick room pokemon but too slow to do anything against a metamancer's team.
Golisopod is a silver lining though, being slow, tanky, and powerful enough to effectively use on a TR team

Framerate issues, no freedom to explore, lame pokemon, and that rotom replacing the actually decent bottom screen from the previous games. Framerate was in the overworld. It dropped heavy at some point. Noticeable in the first city, Hano'i or something like that.
N3DS had little stuttering, but the O3DS suffered a bit. Nothing so bad that you would stop playing, though.

The exploration problem was the constant handholding.

Since the Switch is doing things like BOTW and Mario Odyssey, where we see large, open-world-ish versions of games, I wonder if they'll do an open-world Pokemon game next.
Just make a wide region, make it take 30 minutes to travel from end to end of it, chuck in lots of exploration and hidden shit and they'd sell millions of copies.

This is what you get for using exp share and refresh. The game didn't force you to use any of them and gives you plenty of time to stop using them. If you wanted the game to present some challenge, you shouldn't have used the obvious easy mode options.

First of all, that same logic applies to a tileset, because after that a route is nothing but simple grid coordinates and a few event flags. Meanwhile in sun/moon, a route is a lot more than a single tree model. Models for every object on the route need to exist, as does the geometry of the route itself. it's also not grid based anymore and instead uses exact points which over a large area totals a ton more data used.

I'd like it better if the game was balanced around using them instead of the other way around. I can understand that GF are doing this because they want the literal babby mode crowd, though. Really it's the consumer's fault for making game sales be negatively affected by difficulty.

It should be blatantly obvious you don't need an advantage like this and you should be able to win on equal footing by doing things like building a balanced team and using strategy beyond "use super effective attack".

They did balance the game around exp share to an extent since it's not the abomination if was in gen 6, but refresh wouldn't be possible. Doing so would mean either giving opponents pokemon the same bonuses which turns the game into an rng clusterfuck or opponents having pokemon of much higher level, which would result in your own pokemon catching up quickly anyways.

I guess you're right. It's really terrible that refresh buffs your pokemon so greatly because it's a nice little minigame otherwise. I'd appreciate it a lot better if having a high affection pokemon would only have the unique flavor text.

They decided to put it in smash before it was even publicly known, they gave it one of the most broken hidden abilities in the game and at the last possible minute they decide to give it another special snowflake form to fuck up future games with. Mimikyu is actually decent because acceptable stats, unique typing, enough of a movepool to work and a gimmick ability that actually functions without breaking it. Easily one of the most well made pokemon in a long time, but it's a shame about the retarded power creep keeps marching forward and merely "good" are left behind to rot.

To be fair, Grennir sucks in VGC and would have zero chance to transform. VGC is the meta that GameFreak "balances", they really give a shit about singles.

Fairy would have made so much more sense since it does magic way better than psychic and it's the new type people are going to want to try out. The only logical reason I can give for it not being that way is they didn't want it to have a secondary typing that was good vs both the other starters and were too lazy to change the others. The more likely answer is they made greninja first and the other 2 were afterthoughts they didn't give a shit about.

I haven't played Sun or Moon because I've heard bad things about simply encountering Pokemon on top of other issues I've had with the series for a while now. The SOS is definitely long overdue and better stay. Continuing to insist on single battles for more than 80% of the entire games' playthrough is one of the things I hate the most at this point, especially after getting Digimon World Dawn and now wanting to see just how enjoyable monsters are in something like Shin Megami Tensei where I heard you can even fuse them.

Haven't touched X or Y either. Sure as hell not wasting time with ORAS when I was never a fan of Hoenn being so big, but empty except for Regis and with overworld music that quickly wears out its welcome.

If you liked Digimon World 1 most, go to Digimon World Re:Digitize and Digimon World New Order. If you like 2 or 3 the most try out the DS Digimon World games and the Cyber Sleuth series.

It learns very few moves. Sky Uppercut is its best Fighting move for God’s sake! Not even drain punch for a more bulky approach. It has 3 egg moves. All of them suck.
I really feel like his BST distro was made with Shell Smash in mind. Something that bothers is that everything they shilled during the pre-release period turn out to be shit. With a high BST (600) all you really need to be good is a good Distro and moves to abuse them.

Most flying type moves are made for Birds or things with beaks or wings. BB even mentions wings. It is a great type that needs a more generic base 90 attack. Something like Flamethrower or Surf.

They already have that with wind-based moves
Wind pressure coming from a space rock makes more sense than fucking acrobatics
And I distinctly remember sky attack looking like generic bird magic at some point

I honestly know it isn't the best or probably even competitive, but I absolutely adore Mudsdale in design and concept. Just getting tankier and tankier as a fight goes on while still being a workhorse for damage.

I suppose Bounce and Hurricane are a thing. Too bad those move sucks, a Flamethrower clone is something that Flying type, or any type really would welcome with open arms.

Sure, it doesn't rapes stall but it 2HKO the big guys is a great feat. It doesn't even needs CC, all it needs is SSb but this is a dream. It will never happen.

I love mudsdale too. What it really needs is some form of recovery and Stone Edge. It would love a move that damages and heals, that would be a godsend.

Rest (and Sleep Talk) is an option. Not the best one, but it's something. Eliminate special attackers and get some of that defense boost and it could become quite a wall.

IF could add anything to its movepool, it would a way of self recovery. Like a Leech Life ground Leech Life clone and maybe Slack Off. That way you have the very offensive bulky AV set or a more tank set with Slack off.
Well, at least it is not NU or PU. In VGC it has to compete with Chomp or Lando.

I thought that it's 'high horsepower' move, while well named, was a waste.

I mean Earthquake is RIGHT THERE, and his kit really is missing something not damage based. Maybe something that lowered defense by a level to heal? It would make working with the passive kinda fun.

I wish they had made it a Weight move, like heavy slam. Muds weights so much that it would be hitting at 120 or 150 base power most of the time.

High Horsepower does have a small advantage in that it doesnt lose half power under grassy terrain… You wouldn't use either move against Bulu and you're unlikely to have anything else causing grassy terrain, so it's only relevant in the few turns after Bulu has either been killed or switched out, but it is something.

High Horsepower also has the (debatable) benefit of not hitting allies in double battles, though it also only hits one enemy instead of both.

It's not much and you're better off using EQ 95% of the time, but it's something.

Well, double targeting moves lose some power when used in doubles. That is why things like char-y run Heat wave and FB/Overheat or Xerneass with both Moonblast and Dazzling Gleam

What I love most about Minior is that its Ability description is phrased so poorly that many people who encounter it have no idea what its Ability does. So they'll try and burn or paralyse it in anticipation of a Shell Smash only to find out that it don't work that way, bitch.

Snorlax learns it to so being a ground version of heavy slam would actually make sense.
