Is Victoria 2 a socialist game?

Is Victoria 2 a socialist game?

Not at all, but it's a pretty fucking good game. Best grand strategy out there, tbh fam.

No but a lot of socialists play it because we are spectrum as hell

Hell yes it is. The late game is invariably bogged down by a crisis of overproduction, leading to an increased likelihood of disastrous war between states and an enormity of communist uprisings.

It's a good game, but is a bit limited in terms of really playing out how class antagonism shapes politics. Additionally it has a fundamental misunderstanding what socialism/communism is. It interprets "workers ownership of the means of production" as ONLY meaning state ownership, socialists are depicted as essentially being liberals plus planned economics, and Communism is more perpetual War Communism than actual communism.
Also it often fails to really depict the instability of empires and the actual actions/brutality that must take place to maintain empires.

But all communism and socialism in the game is either liberal gubbermint when the gubbermint does things, or a totalitarian dictatorship.

I played that Victoria 2 mod, but it's just not the same

Have you tried Darkest Hour?

...

Kaiserreich=best mod ever

People keep telling me HoI4 isn't that bad, but it looks pretty shitty. EU4 with bombs and communism sounds awful. Guess I will keep playing CK2, V2, and Darkest Hour forever.

What's bad about HoI4?

I could never really get into the Hearts of Iron series, and the problem with most Paradox games is that gameplay-wise they're really only appropriate for the period they cover.

I just want to play France and engage in dodgy post-colonial shenanigans

It plays like an advanced Darkest Hour themed mod for Europa Universalis. It's not actually a bad game, it's just a bad entry in the series.

the entire "replace events/decision with national focuses" system is uh… pretty fucking flawed.
Also people need them some Pretty Borders and peace conferences are terrible at that.

Paradox are so shitty at AI and so good at indepth gameplay, that they could never make a Cold War game that wasn't a horrible, frustrating embarrassment to everyone involved.

EUIV is fine in that respect

I guess simpler mechanics gives less room for the AI to fuck up

Haha, it's thought this is the reason why EvW got cancelled.

I want to make my own cold war gsg, but I'm not a good enough designer to do that. Think the AI would be a lot of fun to code though.

EvW got leaked. Was there any actual issues with it aside from being unfinished?

it was 90% sperg

Yeah, it was nowhere near finished.

How was it worse than other pdox games?

...

This is the world we should have had: the direct confrontation between proletarian liberation and reaction. I think I'll download the game, if nothing else but to play the mod. Also:
Amazing

Can you play as People's Republic of Vermont in that game?

It's really a great mod.

I recommend playing the American, Spanish, or Russian syndie/commie paths if you're new. They all have civil wars that can teach you all the basic mechanics if the game without throwing too much at you.

I believe the Spanish civil war is the easiest, the American and especially the Russian one is harder. (there is a way to fully syndicalize as Russia without a civil war)

I just realized I already had HOI3 and now 4. Which is better to play? From my understanding, the Kaiserreich dev team has moved mostly to HOI4 now?

Paradox are doing their usual faggotry and slowly making HOI4 good with DLC, starting with promised features and shitty additions, and spreading out actual decent DLCs in between them forcing anyone who buys one to buy them all. If you have the entirety of HOI3, go with that.

I fully agree.
The outcome of WW1 is the one of the most disastrous outcomes for our species since the battle of Yarmouk.
I sincerely wish that we could have lived in the timeline in which the good guys (The Central Powers) won quite divisively.

More on topic; I would recommend that everyone try-out the Shangqing Tianguo.
They are a very interesting faction with a fun (if sadly unfinished) event chain.

...

Only in the sense that the shitty AI turns Laissez Faire into a completely dysfunctional system only a masochist would want to use.

Breaks my suspension of disbelief, honestly.

Despite all the memes Bordiga was a very active revolutionary.

i know von ungern was a reactionary but tbh he was stil pretty cool

Did you ever hear about how he was so quick on the draw whenever one of his men would try and assassinate him, he'd spot them aiming their weapon, unholster his pistol, and shoot them down?
They got wise to it eventually and shot him while he was lighting a cigarette.

he wasen't killed by his own men tho
