I wonder if people are starting to regret saying that CIG should be given more money and expand the features so Star Citizen can be "the best game evar". A lot of the features that they're doing sound awesome but at the same time there's a reason why a game like this doesn't exist, at its current scope it's impossible. They really should have dialed back the ambition since they probably could have put out the game earlier and it still might have been a fun game for what it was.

It's not like all the stupid fucks that gave Roberts money didn't have a fair warning in Freelancer. It's basically Star Citizen v1.0, with the same exact development pattern. Roberts comes along and gets the hype train going thanks to his connection to Wing Commander, he promises everyone the sky and the moon, this will be ultimate game.

Development starts and Roberts has no fucking clue what he's doing, wastes millions on secondary shit like expensive VA, mocap, adventure/FPS gameply, etc. instead of working to deliver a working game first and then adding to it. This keeps up for a few years until the publisher catches onto the fact there is no game and if Roberts could have it his way there never will be (because it's never perfect enough). They kick him out, scramble together whatever stuff is complete and publish it to recoup some of their investments.

This is what Star Citizen will end up like, except much worse because there is no oversight on Roberts and he's gonna keep going.

Roberts is a perfectionist, he oversees the whole project and it seems that nothing gets past him without his approval. It is possible that Roberts is the biggest hurdle in the development, he has a certain vision for the game and he will do anything to reach that vision (that he keeps updating, Lucas anyone?).

Or maybe it is just a giant scheme where he successfully recruited a fanatical fanbase for it to defend it, which is fueled by the constant mockery and attack from outside the fanbase (as any sort of dissent is strictly verboten within the fanbase). The money he has gotten for it is absolutely ridiculous and I think the man is running out of excuses.
