Quake Champions

What is up fellow anons? Bros? Fam? Have you heard of this new upcoming old-school retro high-skill skill-based arena shoot 'em up called Quake Champions? It is sugoy! It is a reboot-sequel of the old acclaimed Quake games by id Software (Masters of DOOM (2016)), which allows you to rocketjump, strafejump, bunnyhop, crouchslide, walljump, jump and be really fucking fast! You should go sign up for the closed beta right now and tell your friends about how awesome this game is! You won't find a higher skill ceiling on the market.
Best of all, Champions is an even better take on the traditional Quake formula:

Come join the beta right now via this good slipgate! You aren't some whiny old Quake whiner who hates change, are you?

We already saw that on the Bethesda presentation at last year's E3 and almost guessed right: Its Overwatch with Quake's physics, game modes and looks. Let the gamplay footage speak for itself.

The funny thing is that the game isn't even that ability centric. Heck, the abilities exist for the sake of balance rather than doing something interesting with the gameplay. They're not even that hard to deal with, but they're not that essential or unique to the point where you question why they were even added to the game in the first place. The statistical differences between champs are a much bigger dealbreaker whether you survive or not. Also something you notice in that video is the current railgun meta of the map. Basically you rush the railgun and deny your opponent the weapon, as you attack the opponent from long range while he can only retaliate with rockets. The added damage on the railgun while zooming doesn't help with it either. Thankfully they've changed the mega health spawn from the route to the railgun to where the YA used to be on DM6 so you can't rush the railgun if you get a lucky spawn. It's kind of messy as Duel is a bit too railgun-centric as of now, unless your aim with it is shit. And there's the netcode too.

oh the humanity

What are you whining for? You can still play good ol' Q3 perfectly fine.
Oh wait, i forgot it's dead.

I think this picture sums up the current state of Quake Champions fairly well. I completely messed up at item control throughout the entire match, but it didn't matter because the opponent picked light champions only which meant I could kill them in just two fucking rails. The railgun meta on Duel right now is ridiculous, basically if you deny your opponent a railgun and keep harassing him from long range, you win.

Whoops, don't forget about the NDA goy

That UI looks like world of fucking tanks.

All I want is Lucy and I'll consider downloading it.

why can't you Jewish TRSodomites stay for fuck away form Holla Forums?

I wish shills would give up on this one already. I wasn't even born when the first one came out

So the only way to actually tell what weapon you're switching to is remembering the color coding?

Too bad. All you get is this oversized frog. rotting corpse, tumblr and Burch's dream wife

I'd assume that if you press Mouse4 you intend to switch to the weapon bound to that key, unless you're talking about something else

Why is this writing so terrible?
Who wrote this?

That is some laughably terrible writing

Going by how shit Doom Goy's commentary is I can only imagine how insufferable the rest of these are.

YOU ARE A FUCKING SHILL TRYING TO FIT IN GET OUT

...

GET OUT

Sorlag is a qt

I'll shove you in this good slipgate instead.

...

HAHA JOKES ON YOU I WAS ONLY PRETENDING TO SPERG OUT OVER NOTHING

I love how fucking vague this shit is, like they just throw in some nonsense about bowel-bowls and ash-milk, and because people don't get it they'll think it's smart.

why is the menu style completely ripped off of world of tanks

do they have to make sounds all the time?
it's pretty fucking annoying

Fixed :^)

CPM actually still has players, so long as you're willing to use IRC to find them or fuck around in an empty server for a few minutes

There's also the fact that bowel-bowls is shitty fanfic/awkwardly translated hentai-tier phrasing

Quake 3 has pubs.
They're kind of bad at the game like any pub.
I also found some "adult 18+" server with people sitting on it.

Full fucking circle. Fuck this gay earth.

I can't tell if this is parody or not. Nevertheless
I am, actually. Quakeworld best world.

When it was first announced having character specific abilities, it was clear as hell that it'll be nothing more then Overwatch with a Quake skin.

Sweet tbh.

...

It takes too much time to realize you're pretending to be a shill, work on that

Well at least ut is officially better than quake now

OP had the kindness of making his post as autism friendly as possible and still it couldn`t crack yours. That`s something

You underestimate the power of autism

nah youre just a retarded low level drumpfcuck

Do not shitpost in MY thread

...

Reminder

What are you talking about?

...

Yes. Audiolocation, or as it was called in my CS 1.6 pubs, sounding. You hear the enemy jump or land and you know their rough location, and can predict where to shoot.
that pub brings back memories, it's a local server that has been running for over 10 years now, the people I knew in 2008 when I played still do today. There was this guy who was magic with a MP5 called GodSpeed, it was all he used and he was the best of the best, I still saw him back when I played in 2016. Good memories, CS 1.6 was great.

I want to vomit.

you don't even realize how appropriately you used that.

Sounds plays an important in Quake, as it gives you a better idea of what your opponent might be doing, e.g. where's he's going, what he picked up, whether he rocketjumped up somewhere and so on.

However everything in Champions sounds like it's going on in a fucking aquarium, so you frequently get your ass barraged from behind because you couldn't even hear the loud negro rushing towards your ass from behind.

I am sad now.

hey, no. what about that uh xonotic or whatever. is that not fun any more?

It's fun, but it's all dead. For modern standards anyways. Plenty arena shooters have at least 50-100 players on your side of the hemisphere (unless you're a filthy fucking aussie) during your timezone in pubs, though getting in matches for some of the older ones might involve hopping on IRC and waiting for some minutes, an necessity which is enough for most scrubs to consider a game dead.

At least it's still under active development. There was a decent-sized update just before gamenight.

...

You're all in luck, goys. Next Friday they'll be performing a massive stress test for nine (9) days (holy shit!!!!) and everyone will be able to play it, no keys required! On Friday the NDA will be lifted, so everyone can stream, share, and talk about the best game of 2017. On top of that, they'll be announcing a new team game mode too. Get fucking hype!

not-TDM confirmed

Do you have some kind of mental disability?

You should know what each weapon is by whatever hotkey you've assigned it to and by what the shape actually looks like. It doesn't take much to figure a shotgun shaped silhoutte is probably a shotgun. The color-coding helps you notice what it is at a glance, instead of maybe picking up one of the many gun coloured guns found in other games.

C'mere
C'MERE
I'M GONNA FUCK YA

Reminder that many oldschool UT fans readily admit this is a game for cucks, and that UT has always been the normalfag game of AFPS :^)

Also I'm sure you could find better gameplay than this spammy shit

OP your sarcasm/satire is good, don't dumb it down for autists who still won't get it if you did make it easier to understand because being told straight-up is the only way to get something through their dense heads.

sometimes I wonder if Bethesda intentionally publishes garbage to make their in-house stuff look better by comparison.

It's actually "sugoi" just a heads up
すごい
はい?良い
And besides, Id rather play games i enjoy rather than cuck versions of games i enjoy, like micro transactions and soundless betas.
Back to katamari damacy for me

No, I mean when you scroll through them with the mousewheel, and the bar with all the weapons pops up so you can tell which weapons you're scrolling through. If you don't look at that you'd have to wait for the weapon to appear and then actually recognize the chunky blob of metal that every weapon looks like now.

There's a list of weapons on the right side of your screen which highlights your currently equipped weapon. The weapons are decently color coded to make them more recognizeable even if the silhouettes don't quite hold up.

No, it's sugoy, goy.

Imagine being this much of a shill that even the moderators have to step in because you're doing your job too well.

...

What the fuck does Slash's bio even mean?
They should have just copy pasted her old bio from Areana not make more myspace emo highschool garbage.

Not Important wasn't as cringy as all this garbage.

All those bios read like the garbage Jerry Holkins writes to poke fun at shit writing. The thing is, when So Bald does it, like in pic related, it's fitting because it's a stupid comic about video games. Is QC supposed to be a lol-comic now?
Nyx does have nice boobs though. Does he come in red flavour?

The game has microtransactions, so probably.

What's especially funny is that the writing is even worse than that. I can at least form a sort of narrative in my mind as to what has actually happened when it comes to these Penny Arcade faux-rants
When I read Slash's bio it sounds sort of like every other character is part of her psychosis, but I don't think that's what they're actually saying. On top of that, I'm genuinely unsure as to what half of the shit is talking about, and not in a way that makes me curious in the slightest

IT'S HERE, GOYIM

Ok

how is this an "issue"?

Team sizes in QC are only 4 players large for team modes, so a 5-player party is too big for that.

so what does it do actually? are you just forced out of the game?

I think so.

That being said, I can't wait for the Nyx porn.

this is a blatant shilling thread

Now come on friend, this game is an unique blend of several genres ultimately making this the best and most refreshing arena shooter you will ever experience. It's in open beta now, pre-order it!

so, many free to play games let you permanently unlock characters with some kind of currency you get by completing matches. but this game only lets you rent. has that been a big deal so far? like, how long do the rentals last, and how long does it take to earn enough?

wanna hear something funny? ive heard of players whining about having too much of these fake munnys with not enough to spend it on. oh what a waste, playing a game without purpose! i gotta wonder if this f2p plan anticipates that.

well, rentals dont immediately concern me, i expect merchantry from anything free to play. but every such business model eventually starts introducing things that are more and more expensive. so while character rental might not be a hurdle now, i wonder if it will later. or is it already a pain?

Always hated how slow all UT games were. And the whole thing with "double tap the dirrection keys for sick moves" made the movement feel even more crippled.
One thing UT, in my opinion, always had over Quake is the maps. Some of them are so fun and unique despite not really affecting the gameplay in any way, especially in UT2004. And even those maps that aren't very unique still looked awesome as fuck. While in Quake III Arena there might be some fun maps (especially later) they were pretty boring anyway because the game (or rather its player base) wanted you to go full "r_picmip 0" in which case you won't see the scenery anyway.
I think they should've embraced that and build UT4 around that idea instead of trying to be all cool and competetive like every single retard on the market right now. I'd rather play a casual game with some amazing dynamic maps where no round is the same than get another "this time it's a real come-back" arena shooter.

That Bethesda.Net shit reminds me of this new trend…

disgusting

I'm glad to hear you liked the game!

This gayass launcher can't even throttle downloads, so you'll have to choke your internet for an hour or three if you want to download all this shit.

Only oldfags who joined the beta in previous rounds will have all chumps unlocked. Newfags will have to rent them, which is dumb as fucking shit in a closed beta where you want to test every single thing instead of gating them behind bitcoins.

also fucking lol

oh fugg
time to play im going to play this and then say it's shit and then totally not ironiclly play it longer because it has a playerbase haha xd

just for laughs

UT is fast-paced without requiring a fast movespeed. Your movement is methodical and planned, not spammed for maximum speed.
This is the fundamental difference between Quake and UT that usually makes players of one not really comfortable with the other.

For instance, the shoot outs you get with the railgun in Quake often happen against cover but in UT you can have very tense moments where your oponent keeps timing his dodge to avoid your shots while you try to do the same. Neither of you is going at sonic speed all around but instead you're keeping track of his last shot and when you need to dodge based on the weapon he has (the Shock Rifle and the Lightning Gun are basically the same railgun but with different firing speeds and different damage and that changes a lot). You usually understand this very well after you spend just 5 seconds trading instagib shots with someone else that feel like 10 minutes due to how tense they are or when you can time your dodges with your oponent's flak cannon and dodge 3 shots before comming near and blowing him up with your shield gun.

There's also some fun stuff with ramping using dodges and wall jumps but on the whole it wasn't actually that hard to hit your oponents so aiming was less of a concern compared to picking the right weapon, minding your position and timing what you do with what your oponent is doing as well.
I always fell that, while Quake was certainly faster, UT had a lot more variety in combat and how you can affect the match.

Wait, what's the difference between the first two?
The other characters trade Health and Shields for more movespeed, but the second character loses both Health and Shields for no extra speed while the first character even has 2 passive abilities instead of just 1. What gives?

Okay, your OP was clearly a joke and some advanced form of autism sarcasm. But now you're posting changelogs? Now you're trolling yourself.

Regardless, the game doesn't seem like it'd appeal to Quakefags, they aren't willing to try anything new anyway or any of it's many remakes would be more successful than it actually is, and those are all much closer to Quake than Quake Champions seems to be.

The Abilities doesn't seem that much as Overwatch, but rather Adrenaline Combos and Species Statistics from Unreal Tournament.
It's still retarded either way, Overwatch gives you Ults based on how well you are doing, not just time, and UT gives you adrenaline based on kills, sprees and map control. If Quake Champions abilities are just placed on a long cooldown you can't do anything with, it's the most boring shit ever.

I've also noticed from that gameplay video that there doesn't seem to be that many weapons and that doesn't even matter when every match is reduced to Rocket Launcher and Railgun anyway. Were there even alternate fire-modes? Didn't saw any…

I also get the idea of characters, you want to give the choice of different playstyles so the players can tweak how they play better, picking faster but weaker characters if they think they can get away with it or stronger and slower characters if they just want to bully people.
This will not work.

You either make the differences very small to the point that this isn't a point you should base the gameplay around (again, Species Statistics for UT) or balancing becomes a nightmare to deal with, as some user has already said about recking some Light Armor team. This only works and makes sense in team-based shooters where a character can be sub-par in combat but still be playable since he can support his team in some way, but if your game is strictly deathmatch, than only heroes suited for that role will prevail and anything that deviates from the optimal stats is retarded.

You might as well play Overwatch and enjoy cute waifus and more variety in combat, try Paladins from Hi-Rez since it's free anyway or some other alternative.
As it stands, Quake Champions looks like the try-hard alternative, for people that want to pay for a game that they believe will make them look superior than everyone else because it has Quake in it's name.

...

Absolutely nothing like overwatch

Wow my dude! You have certainly rocked ultimate such powerful meme speek my friend *vapes respectfully in your direction xD*
I will be prepurchasing this right away from amazon dot com! Op you are truly the ally of the smart consumer and i shall surely enjoy many fraggs and no scopes on my Twitch channel and associated Polaris Network partners!

We should all thank such a brave anonymous channer for alerting us to such good value gaming!

...

I can't even play the game I'm shilling anymore because of how badly the servers are fucking me over

It's the opposite, and not in a good way either. The abilities are at most annoying deal with, but they aren't that huge of a focus in fights to the point where their inclusion is rather questionable to begin with as they don't add that much. It's weird, I get the feeling that the abilities exist more for the sake of balancing weaker characters, as lighter champions with less HP and AP but more speed would almost never be picked if they didn't have a survivability-focused ability like a rechargeable medkit or a phasewalk, hence why nobody plays as Slash anymore because her ability is too situational to be useful in general.

Some abilities come down to calling a free extra turn in a chess match, a free advantage for you, or being a glorified quicktime event. I still don't get how the retards on the forums can claim this shit raises the skill ceiling in any meaningful away when most abilities don't mix up what you should take in account during fights. You just press a button to gain some more control over fights, be it through dealing damage, restoring health, wallhacks, or some other gay shit. That's generally how most abilities operate, but because you can't anticipate them or counter them in interesting ways the whole idea ends up falling flat on its face.

Calling this game Overquake or something is rather inaccurate, when in reality it's its own brand of shit for a variety of reasons. The only ability I like is that of the starting champion which is pretty much the UT Translocator, but because of it's versatility it's interesting to anticipate and counter. The rest of the abilities are just gay shit in comparison.

Only thing the game has going for it looks to be hair physics. Also it has more than 3 characters to choose from

It's interesting how bad they fucked this up, especially considering who's working with the game.
It's like they simply had a checklist that mandated Skills to be present but never gave it a quick though on what their effect on the whole game is actually supposed to be.

Comparing it with Overwatch is pretty funny too. Most Overwatch character's abilities actually do change how you engage them and you have to keep an eye out for their tells, like Genji's Reflect or McRee's Flashbang. They aren't that deep or hard to use but they do force you to pay attention to your enemy and see what he's doing, something that doesn't seem to happen with Quake Champions.

Even more funny is comparing the Ultimates that are also given to players in Overwatch with time, not unlike the cooldown of QC, but they recharge much faster if you actually do well with the hero you're playing, rewarding good players with more uses of their ability, that still requires proper use or is just wasted. Meanwhile QC seems to have a simple cooldown and very, very braindead-use abilities.

There's also UT with the adrenaline combos that were essentially the Skills of QC, but they were awarded based on your kills and sprees (frags gave you adrenaline, sprees increased the reward) or map control (collecting pills) giving faster and skilled players more oportunities to use their combos.

It's like they tried to revitalize the game using a concept they are entirely unfamiliar with, caring more about how other games are doing it too instead of how and why they are using it.
It's like a bunch of 40 years-old trying to come up with marketing tactics for 18 years-old.

All attention is good attention.
The constant shitting on MEA didn't stop faggots even here from buying it.

That's exactly what it is except it's for 12 year olds.

All of those games are fucking cancers.

That comic is so good, it never fails to make me laugh my ass off.

QC will be (((free 2 play))) anyways but I find it rather unfortunate how Holla Forums is automatically shutting down discussions on recently released vidya games because of certain factors, not just because the game is crap, but because people here wish to avoid giving attention to it entirely and thus prevent people from buying it and supporting shit companies as if it were some subconscious wariness to shilling that has been built-up across the years.

It's not as if each game that can be talked about is worth buying to begin with, but I find it rather unfortunate as there's a lot of things to be talked about why it's shit rather than striving to come to the conclusion whether it's shit or not. At least I personally find such discussions more interesting rather than playing a game of Who's The Shill for the umpteenth time and I can imagine most people do as well as such discussions may bring up topics and points you can actually learn from (in terms of game design do's and don'ts for example, there's even plenty to learn from games doing it wrong). Last year (exactly last year) nuDoom was released, after which I spent a large amount of time on my internet crusade writing Jupiter-sized walls of text why I found it to be an ultimately unrealized potential and boring as a result of several core design decisions, however the majority of nuDoom threads I was preying in were filled with people who just told OP to fuck off like the shill he was and that there was nothing to discuss. I really hoped someone would step in in one of those threads and told me 'no you're wrong, here's why', but at most I could only disagree with others on a subjective level rather than coming to terms why my rants about the game design of nuDoom were flawed or incomplete. Worst part is that I found out I was partially bleating bullshit after replaying nuDoom for a second time to reaffirm my suspicions and conclusions about the game, but nobody called me out on it. I said you could double-jump over enemies like it's nothing but that's something I only gathered from a stream, it's not really possible in-game, yet I still found people parroting my wrong opinions about the game which they apparently didn't even play themselves. Of course shit like Denuvo and toaster PCs doesn't help, but still.

Gayday 2 threads proceed just fine without anyone having to call eachother a shill, everybody already knows it's a DLC-ridden Jewish-Swedish bag throwing simulator, and everyone knows the game is not good by any definition of the word, but that doesn't mean there's any point in getting people to not talk about it. Not with a game that old, at least. Though all this has grown to become a sort of auto-immune system against perceived shilling efforts and shit taste, this kind of tribalism does rather come at the cost of the level of discussion involved. Rather give me someone who can actually elaborate his points without resorting to 'not an argument :^)' instead of someone who thinks he's hot shit for having three hours of playtime in a C64 emulator. If high-level discussion would be an extension of good taste, then I'm rather worried about the state of Holla Forums.

Holla Forums isn't shutting down discussion of certain games. That's the whole fucking problem with this place. Bad games attract bad posters. Bad posters make bad threads. Bad threads attract more bad posters.

Please don't try to give it a funny quirky name; that's just something that Zenimax will be able to capitalize on. Think of "DOOT" and "Godd Howard".

Welcome to Holla Forums user, contrarinism is key, the sad part is you're true, a lot of anons here are paranoid as hell about shilling, and yet they constantly fall for the same shitty Holla Forums approved memegames, year after year, that are going to "save x genre" (See the hype for Xcom 2 and more recently that shoverware WH40K game made by the EYE devs). More than that though, if some user says a game is shit, that's the end of the discusssion, some anonymous faggot on the internet said a game is shit, so there's nothing left to say, not what went wrong, not why it's shit. I think a really big issue with a majority of the anons here is that they don't even know what they hate or like in games, if you asked an user to make the most perfect version of his favorite game, he probably wouldn't be able to tell you what issues or strengths it had outside of some collage reaction image meme from a Holla Forums approved game. Anons here like to talk about how great their taste in games is, but most of them are fucking retards that just buy and play whatever Holla Forums says is unequivocally good

Spoiler alert There are games that Holla Forums doesn't like that are also good There's also games Holla Forums really likes that are absolute shit

Remember to sage, hide and subscribe all zenimax threads.

It's not so much shutting down anymore as it is leaving a bad example for others. The example being 'if there is a thread [we] don't like because of [reasons], then you shouldn't contribute anything of quality either through leaving a meaningless sage or shitpost in order to tell OP to fuck off', [we] in this case being common consensus or however you view the hi/v/emind and [reasons] being whatever consensus is being parroted. Maybe it tells bad posters to fuck off, but at the same time regular posters are infected by the meme to not adhere to a quality standard of discussion when faced with things they do not like. Instead of redpilling others on why things are shit and dispelling the notion for newfags that their shit game is good, an unhealthy environment for discussion is being fostered especially in regards to recently released games.

Most people fear shit like the Undertale generals from happening again, but that really takes a special blend of specific autism to be as stubborn as those threads were. Threads really begin to turn to shit if discussion about it stagnates and you get cancer like waifufagging and forced memes, though that's more likely to happen with multiplayer threads. People in those games just play the respective game because they think it is fun despite whether it's shit or not. You can keep pasting your pastas about why the game is shit in those threads, but they know already and keep playing the game regardless. Instead of autistically screeching to tell everyone in the thread to go back to Tumblr, one's efforts would be better spent on keeping actual discussion going, contributing OC or just letting it die peacefully until a new update has been released or something.

This is probably the only thread I'll be making about QC given how shit the beta is and nobody really seems to care about it either. I only made it because inevitably someone else would, but the very least I could do is push it in a direction that might allow for some interesting things to be talked about instead of it being outright sagebombed to death because of a clueless OP, though there's no need to force it anymore as things stand.

Those YouTube e-celebs must be really getting to your head

The worst thing you can do to a game is make it so people can't even play it. Before anyone asks, I only have 12 gb of ram because one of the sticks died a while back and I haven't bothered with replacing it yet.

I want her to sit on my face and deny me an orgasm
So Quake 3, right?

Why do they even bother? It's just embarrassing.

Despite your best efforts, you do not belong here, shill.

I'd probably would have joined you with nuDoom since it doesn't actually look that bad, but I didn't thought it was worth the money they were asking and piracy was not an option because 50gb is retarded and unoptimized. Same reason I don't actually buy some games I do know I'd like.
I did felt like a lot of details in the "discussion" about nuDoom were well blown out of proportion by people that didn't played it even after pirating was an option.

One thing you gotta understand is that there's a severely underage core demographic posting here that cross-post with Holla Forums as well and one really bad habit they got from them is their love for confirmation bias.
It does not matter whether a piece of information is true or not, as long as it conforms whatever pre-conceived idea they had in their mind, it's all good.
Funny memes and shitposting are the goal for them since they only visit Holla Forums for cheap entertainment out of mocking videogames and the whole "anti-shill" crusade is not that different from Holla Forums and the jew or SJWs and the patriarchy, just a group of people looking for purpose and fighting a common enemy outside of their tribe.

What you are looking for are ludophiles that would rather discuss game design instead of just the game itself or the chaff of information surrounding it like what's the sexual orientation of the devs that made it.
I don't like to tell you this but that's a very low ammount of people like that around and that's true for most communities, but the silver lining is that you can still find an higher amount of them in Holla Forums and that's why I stick around.

Just keep making threads about things that interest you and let everyone else that likes to discuss it join up. Regard every "sage, shill" and such as white noise because that's what it fundamentally is, and when the thread 404's, if there's still interest in discussing it, start it again.

Oh, also keep in mind that there's probably not gonna be much discussion of Quake Champions for a bunch of different reasons.
A lot of people that like team-based shooters are already on Overwatch or one of it's many competitors, they aren't gonna try this for longer than a few minutes. And everyone that prefers arena-shooters will not apreciate the low weapon variety or the difference in character stats, so they'll stick to Toxic or Reflex or even UT or something similar. And Quake die-hard fans still play Quake so…
There's really no audience for Quake Champions. They fucked up even there.

Remenber that time when someone was trying to gather videos of an SJW meeting at Berkley and a bunch of tards just kept walking against the camera man, pushing him away and saying "we're just walking forward man, we aren't stopping you from filming anything"?
Yeah, it's pretty much the same thing when you fill threads with shitty posts from top to bottom, trying to make it as hard as possible to have any kind of conversation or discussion.

And good discussions educate people and change them from bad posters to good posters. A community isn't just about maintaining standards among it's peers, it's also about educating the newcomers. The alternatives are to never educate anyone and allowing them to keep their bad ideas or not allow anyone in and die of stagnation.

Fuck outta here with your "Bad threads attract more bad posters.", a thread that's nothing but shitposting about a game just hammers in "you can like that game, you just can't talk about it" and you get retards that still think shit games are actually good, it's just that Holla Forums doesn't understand them.
They are only bad threads because you make them bad threads instead of taking the oportunity to school someone on why he's wrong.

HOLY SHIT QUAKE FANS UTTERLY BTFO

Buy this game now

This is so disgusting. Criticism is fine, but this bullying is awful.

They do have a point, though.
If the devs have a Classic Mode that's essentially the same game as before, then it's the best of both worlds giving everyone the game they want and the option to clearly show what the audience prefers by comparing the number of players of Classic with their new modes.

And it's also true, Quake fans only really want the same game again but with a newer coat of paint.
Any change or deviation from the norm will always be seen as bad and detracting from the formula. It's not that they did something alright this time, they actually fucking didn't, but there's really nothing you could do with Quake that would convince it's fans to switch to a new game, so… Why pander to them anyway?

Newsflash: The people who come here from 4cuck or Reddit have no interest in becoming good posters. They are pretty much the African refugees of the online world.

I agree, and I haven't even really played much of online Quake, I just fucking hate people that call fans entitled and criticism bullying. They're a multimillion dollar company, fuck off you little shit.

I don't like how they shat on the lore though.

Digging your trenches and making yourself an enemy that shuts down discussion doesn't make them go away, it makes them fight harder against you. They'll believe their ignorance is justified since they are fighting someone hostile and the longer you prolong the fight, the more they'll settle in.
Besides, quite bitching about this or that boogeyman. That's childish as fuck. There's no "reddit", there's faggots that care more about the opinion of their peers than their own and there's no "4cuck", there's faggots that post twitter-long replies because they can't argue their way out of a paper bag.
If you can't BTFO either of those in a thread, you should follow them back to their respective sites. Holla Forums has no use for someone that can't argue without throwing memes and sages around like downvotes.

Can I just play games I like instead of having shit shoved down my throat with increasingly blatant intent?

I swear video game writing is only present because of some obscure union contract at this point.

Go away Trudeau, don't you have a country to ruin?

You're a massive faggot

Not familiar with it's lore but that's a valid complain and again, I don't think this game is meant to appeal to long time Quake fans at all…

Think for a second, nigger. Use that brain of yours at least one before you expire.
If you visited Reddit and they started downvoting your posts, would you shut the fuck up or would you start spamming shit left and right? Would you go down quietly or in an autistic blaze of shitposting?
Why would you expect them to act differently here?

Yeah, but at least I'm conscious of that, unlike Todd-posters. :^)

I've actually been there and saw what happens to negative or critical posts, which is the reason I don't fucking go there anymore.

The Reddit cucks that come over here know what happens ot negative opinions on their own site, so they attempt to fit in here via the cargo-cult memes they heard elsewhere like "Holla Forums hates gaems xD" and shit, resulting in a worse board for everybody.

That faggot is in the comment section of every nuQuake video defending this shit cashgrab and fucking Battleborn one time.

it's free, though.

And that somehow makes a Quake game better?

No, he was responding to the notion of 'buy this game now' when the game itself is F2P

Can't wait to give my money to Zenimax for these epic loot crates! I will show all my friends online that I am the #1 epic nerd when they see how cool my character is!

I already have Reflex Arena so I'm not interested either way, but it does make the game slightly less bad when I don't have to pay anything to try it out.
Regardless it's going to die because the average player will be killed by the slightly above average player and ragequit.

what? do you think good games attract good posters? thats a laugh

There's classic mode but there's also quake live and 3. How long will this remain relevant?

Exactly five and a half months.

If that is true than why is quake the one with auto bunnyhop, loadouts and abilities?

No there isn't. I keep hearing people say this but as someone who got into the beta I can tell you for a fact there is no classic mode and there is no plans for a classic mode.

It's amazing how bad this game feels compared to UT 4.
All of the weapons feel so bad and are unoriginal. Compare the quake shockgun to the UT "Shotgun" and you will see the clear superiority of that game. The new Quake should have added more weapon diversity and added ult fires. Instead we just got cruddy abilities.

Weapons were always better in UT games

The flak cannon is more interesting than any weapon in Quake by a notable margin and the only thing that'd make me like UT more than Quake universally is if the movement speed was around 20% faster.

Is it just me or does movement seem fucked up? Or did I lose my touch ;_;
Whatever, beta is kinda bleh. Would rather just play Quake 3. Champions is probably going to be empty in a year like Quake Live was

While you're here, does the gun play work as any other quake game or they added halo/overwatch aim assist?

No aim assist thankfully but it feels weird having the gun play "feel" like guns from the early 90s. What I mean is that the animations make all of the guns feel like toys. They don't have meat to them.

But hey, both are better than this shit!

There's absolutely zero fucking context for these bios. It just starts off by throwing meaningless words at you like "bowel-bowl" or "Gaunt Shepard" and "strange, spidery things" None of that explains who the characters are, where they're from, and most importantly why they're in giant fucking arenas shooting at one another. And at that point, why even bother? If you're not going to tie the CONTENT of their bios to the CONTEXT of the game then don't fucking have bios at all.

Take the edgy tumblr one for instance. She had a music box, she goes crazy with drugs and visions and whatnot, and meets someone else who has the same ability. What does any of that have to do with blasting other people in a big arena with different guns? How the fuck does that explain how she got into the arenas? Why is any of it even important? Do we meet this other person she met? Is Quake just a fever dream in her head? "It began with the music box," did it now? What began? Her visions? Her becoming part of the Quake arenas? Quake existing? Maybe it's just my goddamn autistic faggotry, but I honestly think shit like this can make anyone's head spin if they think about it too much.

I have a supernatural ability to decrypt bullshit so here goes:
Whatever music that was playing in the music box kept playing in her head, so she tried to adopt a persona of one of those figurines, skating and twirling.
Such monochromatic and ritualistic "lifestyle" got her into music (woah punk attitude, brah!) and always looking for that high to get dizzy again (I guess spinning in place didn't cut it anymore). Then she started abusing clozapine (what is that, a prescription drug?), then heroin, then met a boy (I'm guessing Anarchy) who was also some sort of substance abuser. Then they either got so high they transported into the world of Quake or they died and are now in this Purgatory or Hell or whatever.

I'm not defending it, I'm just trying to make sense of this high-school tier bullshit.

I just saw TotalCancer's video about the beta. He said that there's a classic mode and that people should stop whining because there are other "old school arena shooters" and nobody plays them, also "think about muh esport".
I can't believe that guy used to be on the gamers' side.

I think it's because the weapons are pushed too far out into the camera, waving around and overly animated.
Look at Quake 3:
youtube.com/watch?v=laVpV1PFziw
Now look at the gameplay trailer of Champions on the same map:
youtube.com/watch?v=8i6ETW5Gv7o
Aside from my other complaints, the weapons a weaving a bobbing around, making you feel like they're weighty and unwieldy. Now I'd understand if this kind of animation was used in a single player game with a meaty selection of heavy weapons, but here it feels like a hurdle. Like it would take too long of a time to switch out or "reload".
So yeah, I get what you mean.

He's right about people whining about Quake moving away from its purer roots not putting their money where their mouths lie, but fails to see that Quake Champions is by no means an optimal solution to this.

I remember when nuDoom did that 4 or 5 months after launch, the playlist disappeared after a few weeks. Nobody was playing that mode because the multiplayer was already dead.
Also according to TB, there are already cheaters and lagswitchers in the beta. I hope they're gonna do something about that.

Recent co-optional podcast made it so fucking blatantly obvious he's been paid off.. Jesse as well. Youtube is basically dead now because of the advertisement drought, so now companies like Zenimax are their bread and butter.

Stay out of the ton bro, bad shit going down.

Yeah I stopped listening to his podcast after the US elections when he lost his mind and went after his wife for not voting for Hillary. I have a feeling that he's gone full sellout so he can grab as much money as possible for his family before the cancer takes over. But that's not an excuse his behavior.
As for Jesse, that guy is a cunt, he works for the camel and Wesley Crusher.

Must have been a rich fucker to have something besides dial-up then.

Look I posted it again.

Boy am I glad I was never a fan of his.
New Quake that doesn't change anything core from Quake 3 and adds some new optional stuff.
15 bucks.
No F2P.
No skins.
No story.
Emphasis on gameplay/substance rather than style.
An official big name release that doesn't suck or pander to the "broadened demographic" read: watered down.

Am I missing anything?
Now I don't know how many players Quake 3 used to have, but I want to know how many players do all the arena shooters Xonotic, Warsow, Quake Live and Toxikk have in total (excluding nUT, slightly different thing).

What a fucking faggot. Toxic free to play mode gives you 1 gun and 2 maps to play on.
1 FUCKING GUN
TB is fucking cancer.

I have a feeling these kind of games would be more successful if they had a singleplayer campaign behind them, just a multiplayer-only arena shooter doesn't seem to cut it anymore

The most popular AFPS from most to least I think are:
Quake Live
Quake 3 (a lot of bot servers apparently)/Reflex Arena
Xonotic
Warsow (Love this game but I don't like the dodge mechanic, walljumps are cool tho)

What? No it doesn't. I played it for 2 hours when it went F2P, I could use anything on the map.
I quit shortly after because UT style sucks and there was no bunnyhopping.

TOXIKK F2P lets you play on all maps with all weapons, retard. The restrictions are: No character customisation, and no server browser, so you're limited to matchmaking. That's it.

The funny irony is that the trumps have involvement with Zenimax so he's basically selling out to the Trumps. I don't think he knows that yet. I take comfort in the fact that its highly likely he'll be dead by the end of the decade so we don't have to give a fuck anymore.

His entire argument is "if you don't like it don't play it" but here's the thing, the purists even hated Quakelive. Why can't you just upgrade the original quake.

These niggers also love to use the argument "B-but every previous Quake was not accepted by the fans of the Quake that came before it!"

His opinions are as cancerous as his ass.

F2P Toxikk let's you use all maps and weapons you lying nigger.

wew

Forgot to add
What else would they say? Of course the people that play for money are going to support the new popular platform, the devs will try to force tournaments with prizes and the players know it

All in all we've already seen what happens when a game is dumb down to appeal to wider audiences. Look no further than the recent dow3. Just wait til it dies

toxikk.com/newspost/upcoming-free-edition/
you are the lying nigger here

why should anyone take this person seriously? the game is free to play and his entire post is assuming it is 60 + tax + tip. he doesn't even know what the fucking game is, you can play without spending your "moolah"

one of the host of a popular (((alt-right))) podcast The Daily Shoah was outed as a "half" Jew who is married to a supper Jew wife with ties to B'nai B'rith who promotes "diversity in the work place" and is a fag hag who works for a New York Drag Queen Show called Detox and is known for songs such as "This Is How We Jew It". Basically the guy in the HWNDU photo is a sick degenerate. He even got a really bizarre overcompensating nose job to hid his Jewishness. Shill of the TRS form constantly try to push their trash on full/pol/ and it sometimes spills over into other boards.

sage because this shit doesn't belong on Holla Forums, but their may still be a thread on /baphomet/, /trs/ or /cow/

As much as I hate the new announcer, hearing him say CHOO CHOO with that low monotone voice is pretty fucking funny.

Reflex isn't very popular at all, and is definitely not more popular than Xonotic.
Reflex: steamcharts.com/app/328070
Xonotic: stats.xonotic.org/
Their all time peak is lower than what Xon gets like every 24 hours.

Never going to happen again, because it doesn't sell well enough for any company that isn't independent and small, it doesn't even get players if its free (actually free, not freemium shit) See: All those stupid Q3 clones that popped up throughout the years.
Why doesn't the Quake 3 community just ditch Quake Live and prop up OpenArena or something with improvements from the various forks of the Q3 engine that doesn't require Steam and can be played on OSes other than Windows? Could also improve the UI (as in having a main menu that isn't made for 4:3 monitors only), maybe add some user UI modification like Xonotic has, make modding work well enough so you don't have to have people playing games like Warsow that add one ability to the overall game design. As it stands right now, you guys are scattered everywhere ever since QL ditched the browser, went Windows only, and then went pay to play. Maybe you'd get new players, or at least have zero reason to be scattered into like four different games all making seperate efforts to do virtually the same thing. Is it because you guys are incapable of doing anything, including playing Quake 3, based on how deserted most of the Q3 clones are (and based on how many players QL bled)?

It's because the Quake community wants nothing but carbon copies of Quake, ala CoD fanbase.
The very post you quoted as "adds some new optional stuff" with no suggestions as to what said stuff is, as well as "Emphasis on gameplay/substance rather than style" which is as generic as can be.

There have been many attemps at remaking Quake, some with a few differences, others practically the same thing. But the truth is, Quake players either don't play videogames anymore or they just want Quake: the idea, not Quake: the game.

The story of (((Peinovich))) will always make me laugh.

OK faggot:
"I want a good GAME, not a CG animation demo" is somehow a bad statement? Generic even? How can this sort of statement even be generic?

Is it there a Quake 3 community still at this point, in an actual unified sense?

Are the games really "Quake clones", or is it the general style of old competitive PC shooters?
youtube.com/watch?v=VT5eKjLZKq8
youtube.com/watch?v=6nOKMPyRGCs

Legit curious.

Everyone would argue it detracts from bunnyhoping and trivializes movement since it's a rocketjump with no self-damage for balance or skill required.
There has been a game with a grapling hook already, forgot if it was Reflex, Toxik or Warsow (easy mistake to make, they are all the same game after all) and it wasn't made more popular for that. In fact, it's vore mod was more popular than the game itself.

Gimmicky modes nobody would play in favour of deathmatch and you know it. Plus, the "dynamic changing level or randomized terrain track so you don't have some uber-bunny hopper dominate every match on that one map he's been playing for 12 years" would just end up with LAUGHS PROCEDURAL Y and complaints about random content instead of hand-crafted levels.

You mean a gamemode where killing your enemies makes them stronger? I can see the Trudeau memes already, followed by everyone complaining how stupid that actually is, punishing the winning team for being better at the game.

Snowballing: the gamemode, where the first team to get a frag will often win the game and regardless of skill exhibited at said frag, it will always feel like luck. Good game design.

Yes, because everyone wants a good game but good is pretty subjective. What you consider good might sound bad for someone else, like your request that there be no story, while some people like the context and characters it brings.

I meant mostly Warsow, Reflex, Toxik, etc. Those always have very similar guns, movement, map elements, gameplay, etc. You look at gameplay of any 2 and you could just assume it's the same game with a graphic overhaul instead. Doesn't help that they often devolve into just railgun for long range and rocket launcher for close range, with a minigun of sorts for low-HP targets and insecure players.

Painkiller at least had some interesting weapons to mix things a bit, HLDM also had a few too.

yes, it's called Quake
Freeze tag was pretty popular on Quake Live
you can have both, just getting a different terrain to work every round would test players' ingenuity and not memorization
I wish I'd thought of that name before I typed it out. I think it would at least be interesting how the meta game would play out - do players try to take out the remaining team as fast as possible? Do they try to keep the numbers even at all times? Who would actually play defensively depending on the numbers of players remaining?
That's why I said it's a short timed boost. You'd have to have those nanomachines from MGS4 to effectively snowball a team
fuck outta here with your "ALL ART IS BEAUTIFUL" bullshit. You try to call me out and I deliver, what do you do? Nitpick at shit I came up with in 5 minutes. that's why you're full of it: you just adopt a defeatist "Oy vey, go- fellow guys, there's no quake community, gamers are dead, let's just play whatever LITERAL DIGITAL DRUG they throw at us, maybe even send a few shekels their way, they've worked so hard for yo- us!" attitude and want the genre to die and have it's place taken by whatever CRAPCUNTS lite Champions is supposed to be.

You completely ignored everything else I said about the grappling hook.

And it would frustrate people that would blame their failings on "bad terrain generation"
A game where people memorize entire levels to know exactly how to traverse them in the most optimal way… And you think it's a good idea to add a gamemode that removes that?

You also ignored what I said here. It could be an interesting mode indeed, reverse-juggernaut, but it wouldn't be seen as that good since you'd be rewarding failure leading to shitty meta strategies, like self-damaging to bait the other team into killing you and then cleaning house when you're more powerfull.
Regardless of how interesting it actually sounds, it would not be well received at all since it's so counter-intuitive to the default Deathmatch.

So now there's even more RNG, where if you meet someone while the boost is still active, you get an advantage but if you don't, it's wasted and you're just playing deathmatch anyway?
That's even worse.

You're a faggot that doesn't know what words actually mean. This has nothing to do with art or the current trend of "it's subjective so it's above criticism".
Point is, some people prefer some elements over others for their own personal reasons that you can criticize if you want, but it's still subjective. There is not one single way to make arena shooters and Quake vs UT is living proof of that, people graviting to one over another based on their SUBJECTIVE preference.

You didn't. You suggested things that go contrary to the design of the game or gimmicky modes that entertain people but don't really improve the game that much. Unreal Tournament has Bombing Run, Double Domination and even Joust, a small map that is just CTF but because of it's layout it's sorta reverse-CTF.
Those do not make the game, they are not as popular as standard DeathMatch or regular CTF.

You should shut your mouth if you know very well only shit is gonna come out. Coming up with ideas, anyone can do it, that's why they call them idiots. Coming up with good ideas is another business.
Grappling hook sounds really fun, doesn't it? Well there goes bunnyhopping and rocketjumping out the window since Grappling Hook does mobility far better, faster and with less cost so you royally fuck a core part of the game for your shitty idea.

What I was expecting was for ideas about weapons or movement that actually do change the game from railgun\rocket\minigun and bunnyhoping\jumppad\rocketjump to something a bit more interesting than that otherwise why would you play anything new that doesn't do anything different without invalidating any of these?

Well, if you want some good ideas out of me, you'd have to pay me for those, Mr. "I'm not shilling for id, I swear".
You haven't come up with anything. Not even "stupid" ideas like mine.
You said I can't even come up with any of the "new optional stuff" and I did, so you just say
You think that grappling hook would outright kill all other movement options instead of complementing them.

You're looking for tiniest of possibilities of shit going downhill and don't even want to see how it all plays out. If I had the knowledge and skill, I'd mod the shit out of games to see what sticks and what plays out the way I envisioned it and what do players twist into a creation of their own.

You're thinking of Xonotic, although Quake had it first. Actually, without the hook, I doubt the instagib mode would be played as often. Embed related.
Its a mutator in Xonotic, its almost always only used in instagib. There is actually a rocket jump (a blaster jump) with no self damage on the instagibber, its the alt fire.
It makes sense there, since instagib doesn't have pickup items, except ammo for the instagibber sometimes, if infinite ammo isn't enabled. When the ammo runs out, you have something like 10 seconds to find more ammo or you die.
That was originally a fork of Nexuiz, and I don't see how it was ever more popular than Nexuiz or Xonotic.
Toxxik is a UT clone, it is not really like Reflex or Warsow beyond being an arena FPS. Warsow and Reflex are basically both CPMA clones, but with a few small differences here and there.
Xonotic is best described as Quakeworld and UT mashed into a blender, with more Quakeworld than UT. It uses a fork of the Quake 1 engine after all. It did do some original things here and there, like the reverse gravity plasma shotgun (Crylink) and changing strafe jumping so people who aren't on the arena FPS autism spectrum can actually move somewhat. The rocket launcher seems to be inspired by the Half Life 1 rocket launcher, with the mouse aimed missile.

...

Instagibbers usually don't know how to move besides holding w+forward and blaster jumps. So yes it does somewhat trivialize bunnyhopping. Usually the grappling hook is usable on any surface on the map as opposed to specific contexts, so I assume the lot of them are just very used to spamming the hook to gain speed. Additionally, the average instagibber doesn't know how to use any other weapon except the Vortex, neither do they time items (because there are no point to having health and armor if you die in 1 hit anyways).

I frequented an unmodified server, and typically when said unmodified server has some players and meanwhile the instagib servers happen to be empty, there's sure to be some instagibbers to come into a vanilla server and whine about said server they just joined not being instagib or not having a hook. If the admin was present, they'd beg him to add hook or instagib. Largely they seem to be their own isolated scene. The Xonotic thread probably has more stories regarding that.

w+jump*

The reality of the stituation is that if you were to look at the pubs of QL, the only modes that are being played are overpopulated FFA matches and Clan Arena. So much fucking Clan Arena. It doesn't matter how many game modes you propose, at the end of the day one mode will be the king of the hill.

Played Champions a bit and it's somewhat fun but feels very stuttery despite the framerate being high and the loading times are super long, but i feel like the only reason it's more fun than Live is because there's players I stand a chance against. The champion abilities seem completely useless compared to the standard weapons but maybe I just don't know how to use them right.

Id just like quake live but with more players and a more even distribution of skill among them, so the newbies like me don't give up instantly after getting crushed by veterans.
New shiny graphics and cosmetics are acceptable if the publisher really wants that dosh and mass appeal but just let me turn the visuals down.

Because Bethshit-id doesn't care about the actual series, just the name. If UT 4 and Paragons got fused into the same game, I wouldn't consider that UT either.
In other words, for the same reason that Fallout is now an open world fps with rpg mechanics

Also autohop with VQ3/Q4 movement is a non-issue.

Swinging hook solves that problem

Trudeau mode could distribute the dead player's base armor/health and remainibg ammo to the rest of the team instead of being a bulk powerup

Could also have a mode where everyone gets a mutator when someone dies, or where only the team that killed/lost a teammate gets a mutator

Could have a mode where everyone starts with a different mutator and they swap to the nearest player on death, so at the end you fight someone with all applicable mutators. Mutators would be assigned randomly

The point isn't to have a primary game mode, it's to have a CS style ecosystem in which people can play the same title even if they aren't playing the same game. Eventually you will get converts, so long as you remove instagib and retake Constantinople

Also re:perfect Quake
VQ3 is boring as sin, at least use QW, CPMA or even Q4

Re: classic mode
It'll be an undersupported vq3 with shit maps, a terrible weapon lineup and dumbed down map control

Even the U99 bios were better, even when they were edgy as fuck, holy shit.

...

It seems to go over the heads of most people, including those who keep arguing to make QC more noob friendly, that Champions will have a somewhat guaranteed degree of success regardless because of the (((free))) attention it's getting simply because it's called Quake, and because people want to play an AFPS with a sizable player base which doesn't completely consist of hardcore veterans.

Why?

quake 3 was the most casual garbage ever made
