I have a friend who played the game a bit just to see it firsthand. Supposedly the gameplay itself is actually fine, but the artstyle and general atmosphere is so bad that he wanted nothing to do with it after about an hour. This tells me there some actual competent designers at gearbox, but everything they make is doomed to failure due to a small number of retards at the top.

However after every patch they insisted on making it shittier: fucking up maps/characters, not fixing what needs to be fixed, making literally unusable gear that people farmed days or even months because of "balance" and leaving those items out of the game for months instead of letting people use the "OP" for their singleplayer or coop campaign
The already low playerbase fucked off, me included, however some people with buyer's remorse or autism continued to play
Thanks to the low playerbase the veterans made a group to play as a group, totally obliterating with a 100% win ratio in every match, destroying any fun for the casuals that would join the game for the first time.
After a few months without playing I wanted to see how it was going, it took me 4 hours 20minutes to find a game (this is not an exaggeration, I left the game running to check it, it was on the afternoon PC EU). It was a full team of veterans, I know all of them, my team was filled with new players, the new players that did not even know the mechanics of the game started leaving mid game. I uninstalled after a few matches exactly like that on the same week with the same players on the other team
The veterans destroyed what they had left by themselves. I still can't believe that the veterans made a group to go into queue instead of face each other since they have similar skill level.
I did not regret enjoying the game the first month, I do regret buying it because of the last chance I gave to GB and they alongside 2K destroyed what was left of the game

Battleborn art style is not "cartoony" (or even "anime" like their CM said once), their design is way too complicated to be cartoony. The whole thing seems like a mashup of a bunch of concepts for Gearbox games that never saw the light. None of the characters look like if they belong in the same universe, the same goes for the maps (I remember one that had a lot of blue tones with alien structures that looked like reskinned models of Forerunner monolith/building from Halo).

from a functional perspective there's no reason to even get persona 5 on the ps4. The graphics are virtually identical with only a slight difference in shadow quality and lod distance, something you won't notice during normal play.

A similar thing also happened when I played brawl online a few years back because I wanted to play, but had nobody to play with. I guess they could tell I was out of practice, and they just spent the remainder of the game ganging up and camping me, they would just not fight while I was dead.

I also own that game and I was on the top 100, although you could trick your way into the top pretty easily by how broken the system was.

Many veterans are friends due to how many times they fought each other, then they play together "because they are friends". However, they forget that if the game is niche or it's bleeding players, you should NOT make other's people game an ultra stomp EVERY MATCH.
Sure, they would get exciting match when all 5 of them are facing me and another veteran because we are good, but what about the other three? It's the same in every game, and this kind of veteran players put the final nail in the coffin for the game.

I tell you, if they didnt pull this shit, Battleborn would have around a minimum of 2~4k players average a day, instead we get less players than even niche games. But who cares, the devs and publisher deserve this failure, we just didn't deserve it.
