I often play games totally shitfaced drunk and I havent gotten anywhere near this bad

I installed a new linux OS on the new HDD, got everything up and running right and fixed all the bugs.

Then I open up the case and take the old hard drive out of the old computer, put it in the bay and hook it to the #2 HDD cable plug and plug in the power. Then I start the computer up, boot into the new OS and mount the old HDD as a new data volume using the Computer menu.

Then its as simple as navigating into the old drive's Home folder, selecting all my document folders, and doing a copy+paste into the new drive's home folder. Once that's done I have to pull some misc folders off the old Desktop like my GG folder and then it's finished. My SOP after that is to wipe the old drive completely and use the backup tool to compress and backup the new HDD to the old drive.

I have the problem where the Linux bootCDs just do not want to read the volume at all whatsoever.
The only thing that was willing to try was TestDisk, but that took for-fucking-ever just to get maybe a few hundred megs of actually usable data.

Yes, I was using a LiveCD. The old OS was Win7 with the filesystem as NTFS, but I thought most if not all the bottlenecks from reading NTFS from Linux were defeated.

Alright, so Linux's modern distros should all have no problem reading an NTFS HDD. I use LiveCDs on Windows computers all the time to do data recovery when Winblows is too fucked up to boot or self-repair.

When you installed Win7, did you enable disk encryption? Because it won't be able to get around that if you did.

There's generally no way to preserve setting from one Linux to another, because your new one will have totally different features/desktop environ, configuration options, etc. The best way to do that is the most obvious: Plus in an external HDD and copy+paste your Home folder to it. Then run the live CD for your new OS and choose to over-write the entire disk. When the clean install is finished, plug in your external drive and copy all the contents of your old home folder into your new one, and then go in and set preferences and such manually.

The nice thing about Linux is how long lived it is. While it took me two days to get this thing just right, its also the first time I've had to do it in almost six years. The last time I was fucking around on Windows it seemed like I had to do a fresh install and de-fucker everything on a six month basis.

I find this funny, but its true. So I used to have this ancient Windows 98 computer. It was a Compaq Presario Internet Learning Series PC. Fucker was state of the art in 1998. Had a 30gig hard drive, 128 gigs of RAM, a gaming port, and a 128k modem.

I dabbled with KiA a few months ago. I've never used reddit before that. I couldn't get into it. I like how unfiltered this is, how…I'm not sure the word I'm looking for is. Uncontrolled? Open? The GG bread has a topic of course, but we're all here and we bring different things that are on our minds to the table. This bread covers a very large array of topics really. On KiA a thread is about a very specific thing and there doesn't seem to be much play in that.

It's like what would normally be a single post in this thread that might spark a conversation would instead be treated as it's own stand-alone topic on KiA.

Also I don't like that comments are sorted by upvote/downvote rather than chronological order.

Replies are done by post numbers and also allows you to reply to various people at the same time, which could all be related or addressed with a single post. The only obvious downside to this system is that it's easier to derail.

Oh, and that is not even including the pseudonyms vs. anonymity aspect, which carries all that reputation and e-peen garbage.

And then there are the shadowbans and faggots who can edit your post without it ever showing. Let's not forget about the voting manipulation too.
