Might as well ask. What are the GOOD Persona games? Played P3FES and hated it until the end. Then I played through SMT1, 2 and 3. Loved them all. Now I'm playing through P1 and while not nearly as bad as 3, it's still rather annoying, the battles aren't fun and there are a gorillion of them at least until I get Estoma. Even if they were, I just don't like the characters one bit. Is P2 any better? What about P4?

P4's manual came with a fusion chart but P5 has nothing of the sort.

SMT was once more popular and financially successful than Persona(I believe Persona didn't become the bigger series until Persona 4). Many SMT fans don't like Persona because they feel their series got shafted because Persona got more popular.
Like how SMT IV was made for the 3DS and is a straight visual downgrade from SMT III with the return to 2D battles, while Persona 5 was made for PS3/PS4 and was an upgrade in every way(Except for the fact that Atlus has yet to top Persona 2's story).
Personally, I'm just upset at what Persona 3/4 has done to Persona 5. You can see the writing trying to be more like Persona 1/2 but you can feel the otaku waifufags pressuring Atlus into making a story with a simple and happy ending where everyone smiles and friendship saves the day… again!

By the end of both persona 2 innocent sin and eternal punishment, in order to prevent Nyarlothep from using rumors to destroy the world, eeach party member, who had survived the END OF THE WORLD by virtue of being next to the dead god himself had to beat the shit out of him and remove their memories of eachother, to prevent the same thing from happening when time was rewinded and to part from eachother forever.

Eternal Punishment starts because one man, Tatsuya, aka you in Innocent Sin, refused to let go and move on. After the world gets fucked up again in a vastly different way, Tatsuya finally agrees to let go of his memories and Maya, who he had fallen in love with. The game ends with them meeting in the "new world", by chance instead of fate, with a future between them like before uncertain.

Now THAT shit is fucking romantic, melancholy, the protag was his own person who had his own character and his own arc, and generally the best ending you could get had to be earned by the characters, and it's one of those game where the villain actually SUCCEEDS, BOTH TIMES and is only bested in personal combat after his plan has been carried out. For god's sake a fucking lovecraftian god summoned hitler and set a fucking serial murderer loose, fucked up the city by turning rumors into reality, opened the gates of hell and BLEW UP THE GODDAMNED WORLD and you beat him AFTER THAT.

IS A FUCKING VILLAIN

He's like Luca Blight on fucking steroids, but what made Luca a good villain is a little different in that you best him halfway through the story and yet the sheer carnage becomes the villain for the rest of it, to the point that his impact is felt throughout the story. In Nyarly's case you can't even kill him until you've seen the entireity of his fucking plan carry out as you're helpless to stop it.

Then you get to persona 3 which is vastly more simple in that the protagonist, which is just you anyway with an emo haircut, has to die to save the world, giving off a feeling that the game was catered to you, and the game ends with you reaching the end and so does your character. Poignant, and a good way to end the game, which generally had the same sort of mood as SMT.

Now for Persona 4 and 5, copy the same ending but instead of dying just have the protag leave the town and replace the mood with happy go lucky shit in p4's case and then kinda try to have a middle ground between p4 and p3 in mood in p5's case.

I kinda have to agree. A lot of people love P4, but that's mainly because it was the last main Persona we had for a long time during P5's development hell. The whole story of the murder mystery was kinda boring, and besides Yosuke, I didn't really find myself enjoying the rest of the characters.

P5 on the other hand, I'm having a blast with. The complete change of theme was a breath of fresh air, and I haven't met a character I didn't like.

Personally I liked 4 more than 3. 3 felt pretty boring too me, I can barely remember anything about the generic city. Something about Inaba felt alive to me and really made me connect to it, maybe just because I'm from the country. The only thing I think 3 did better was the main plot. Some will say that the characters are better, but I feel like both cast are pretty week in general.

i tried to do it like 10 times and it always breaks on some stupid bug, or henkaku doesn't work because no reason. eventually i stopped bothering because nothing in the vita is worth really going through all that effort.

I feel that it's more of Persona 4's fault for causing every game after it to require a happy ending. I would have been okay with P5 MC being imprisoned for a long ass time, and his friends along with his loved one doing all they can while waiting for him to leave the joint. But instead it's a happy road trip of going back to MC's hometown.

As for P3, I really hate that they keep bringing back the calendar system which restricts the player to do a few things a day, and when certain events happen in the game, they make the player stay in home. I wish they could just do away with it, and make it similar to Yakuza's free roaming style or something that doesn't limit the player's in-game free time.
Granted, P5 has it's qualities, but for those 7/8 years of development, the game itself is underwhelming.

When I think it'd be better if there was some kind of "We know you did it but can't prove your methods, so one month of jail time for you." for the time skip instead. It's more that they couldn't come up with anything new and did the same exact thing Wild ARMS 5 did for that serie's 20th anniversary and slammed old concept together without much thought behind them. For instance, 5 seems to have dropped the actual Jungian pretenses that 3 and 4 (which was primarily Freud) and 4 (which was Nietzsche's "On Truth and Lies in a Non-Moral Sense") held over from 1 and 2's main plots. 5 doesn't really seem to have a "real" psychological basis, it's just various people abusing authority with no coherent thread or theme.

Pretty sure the theme was "free will," in fact the peoples who's palaces had been destoyed and their shadows left relatively unharmed turned into people who essentially abandoned their free will. After all, all those people who's palaces were destroyed are found in the pits of mementos.

Remember what was said about the people with palaces? They were expelled from mementos because of how willful they were and how unwilling they were to be coerced to be the last in the food chain.

Mona even says that desires are necessary for human beings and that taking those desires away can have an adverse and possibly negative effect on people. Desires aren't bad, it's when those desires become all the person is that corrupts them.

The whole Satan saves Christmas thing was a little odd I'll admit but in a way it makes sense. After all Satan was cast out of heaven for being too willful and rebelled against god and while many consider him to be inherently evil, he is after all in charge of punishing evil people so the Bible is a bit contradictory when it comes to Satan in that sense. Also if you take into consideration the whole ordeal with Adam and Eve and the Apple, you could say that he was the one that introduced real free will to humanity (along side knowledge.) Even Nyx quotes that "When bit the fruit of knowledge he sealed his fate" and "entrusted their future to the cards."

yep, also generally if you want to complete the persona list all you have to do is have two persona of the same arcana, fuse them while restocking from the compendium (have a gap between "ranks" to fuse down the list, fuse two next to eachother to fuse up) and continue with the rest of the arcana.

If you're missing a persona lower then the gaps on the list, that's when you fuse other personas using that chart.

If you want to get a certain skill on a certain persona, all you have to do is fuse into an arcana, then fuse up or down til you get there.

so say you fuse ranks 1 and 3, you get the middle, 2. fuse 2 and 3 and you get 4.

i didn't even use sukukaja in my playthrough and i barely ever missed. played from start to end on merciless.

again, Sukukaja is almost completely irrelevant in this game because you don't miss that often, and if the enemy wants to hit your weakness, it most likely will. its not like in nocturne where hitting a boss was 50% miss chance. of course if the enemy sukukaja's itself or it sukunda's your party, then yeah, its good to have, but remember this: most relevant boss attacks are almighty, so evasion is pointless, what you need is defense and to lower enemy attack to survive. Makoto is almost obligatory if you're going for a merciless run.

I am looking forward for Persona 5 Crimson and Hifumi beeing playable and her mother getting her own palace instead of a mementos mission. Hifumi with her yugioh-like outbursts would be hilarious in the metaverse. Give her a samurai general attire and a horse persona focused on buffs or debuffs. It really is a shame that fatlus scrapped her from the main cast.

Makoto is not smart, I agree. She is more like some dweeb who only mimicks what she learns from books. This is why she wants Akira the main character to take her out to Shinjuku so she can get some real life experience. Then again, Hifumi is revealed as not even beeing that good at shogi but at least she is working on and developing strategies all the time. She would have been more realistic as the teams strategist. Makoto could have been the navi and Futaba is not even playable so I have no idea why she is in your party other than for beeing the pedobait character. I understand why Makoto did this stupid thing with the yakuza guys. First of all she might have thaught beeing the prosecutors sister gives her immunity. Secondly, her sister made her feel bad about many things and she probably just wanted to do something good for once and not always be critisized.

Ryuji is not autistic, he is just stupid. He also fucks up his tests at school all the time. He is basically a fallen former jock. He was probably very popular back in the track team days. After fucking up the track team, nobody wanted to have anything with him anymore so he became the super rebellious guy (see his dyed hair). Combined with his hothead mentality it becomes a lethal combination for having him as your partner in crime. However, Ryuji's redeeming factor was his unconditional loyalty and all the time he was a total bro. Yes his reason for keeping the PT going was fame but everyone else had selfish reasons as well. I liked Ryuji even with his negative sides.

Yusuke was very enjoyable and probably the most realistic character of all. He really comes of like an artist. He is borderline homosexual, he has weird clothing, he is always brooding, he is never satisfied with his own work, he seems to have depressions or some complexes. However, he is clearly not autistic or socially retarded as he has no problems getting in conversations or expressing his own oppinions. He also stayed ice cold when he told anne he wants to picture her naked so I guess he is either homosexual or anne is not his type and he saw it as art only.
