I don't remember touch controls factoring in a lot in Solatorobo so you can probably emulate it well. Though it has been a long time since I played and I didn't get too far in.

It's nicer playing with an analog stick and it's more than 10 chapters, the gameplay expands a little more in the second part.

The part that's actually getting to me is that I can't even think of a time where this was attempted as anything more than that lame shit. The places where they even try it are all single player games too, even though something like that could make a MMO extremely interesting.

If you actually had a smart UI developer and art department, you could design systems based on visually representing things like 'sound' and 'scent' for races that use them. Creating a visual effect that's subtle and more noticed by its absence than some kind of 'red fart cloud on a blue tinted world you follow'

You could have an orca/dolphin race that has echo location, allowing them to 'see' great distances in water by providing essentially a visual collision map of the whole area, but also as they delve a dungeon with a party they will see a collision map go through a wall and realize that its an illusion or otherwise fake wall.

I could also imagine a boss fight with a wizard using copies of himself being trivialized by some beast race being able to immediately identify which one is the 'real' one by the scent.

This feels a lot like tossing anthro races at MMOs to fix the problem of boring cookie cutter races. We should be past having to do that. However since most devs are more concerned with polishing the 5th generation of raid UI ergonomic functionality we have to settle for not having races be different at all. Let alone the fact that emotes and social functions are still all done with / commands.
