Games you haven't played but assume they are fucking awful

LETS TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT
I am curious to anons here have actually played COD and can inform me what actually makes them bad games? like the title says, I just assumed they were bad cause of being console fps. But with that being said I know some anons here like Halo for reasons. A simple list of what makes COD since the beginning total shit. How about other games that you anons haven't tried but assume are shit?

Mark did nothing wrong last thread. No meta, and no political spazing.

Also, I will be here for a bit so no (1)

Titanfall 2 and Call of Duty 1-2 are the only good CoD games.

Debate me fagets

What do you find good about them? Titanfall is another game I never played but yet assumed it was bad.

Well Titanfall 1 was shit, but Titanfall 2 gives you more movement options in addition to discouraging iron sights. Think of it of the evolution of the futuristic CoD's but actually good.

I actually liked MW1 and 2, the sequence where it starts going into urban combat and you have an IAV helping you was the craziest shit

3 was 1 and 2 but bigger and better with a Canadian and Polish campaign but was stuck on console, 4 wasn't itself a bad game but it's influence was why it's revered as cancer, 5 was an updated 3, MW2 and BO1 were cancer but still fun and BO1's campaign was nice mainly because Cold War games are rare.

The day I bought Skyrimjob as a teenager. Tescos had prepare to die edition for £30 at release since no one bought it too.

What's bad about Blackops?

More like Black Cocks

Nigger how many threads have you made today?

Take the fucking hint, faggot

For a spin off it was bretty good, also coming off the shitty "spec ops" side content zombies was a million times better. All guns except sidearms were interesting and fun unlike in the latter games.

Single player:

Multiplayer:
Only CoD UO is excusable, that one can be pretty fun.

Pirated some of them and they are alright in SP but what might be excusable in SP doesn't work in MP and has poisoned the fps genre.
They introduced the constant leveling that throws flashing lights and sound clips at you every second you are not a total waste of space in this game bringing along whoring for weapon skins and marks next to your Nickname.
They at least on consoles look like garbage and always use a monotone color scheme(first it was desert shit brown and now it's future metallic/black) because that's soo realistic.
They introduced tiny maps and even smaller time-to-kill encouraging a hasty thoughtless gameplay and last but most likely not least: They popularized p2p matchmaking in the later games.

no cod was ever good. kill yourself

...

World at War was a genuinely good game and the last good CoD game.
MW2's a guilty pleasure of mine.
The first two were really good shooters; both campaign and multiplayer wise. Gunplay was satisfying, and for the most part it was just you with a bolt-action shooting other people with bolt-actions. CoD 4 came out and it was half-way decent, however it introduced cancer like perks and killstreaks, and generally had awful weapon balancing; allow me to go into more detail

Perks in upon itself isn't a necessarily a bad mechanic, however in CoD 4 they were poorly balanced, take for example: Stopping Power and Juggernaut. Stopping power made other players die one shot faster and Juggernaut made you take one more shot; because of how powerful these two perk are if you're the sorry bastard that decided to pick something other than those two you're SOL. Other perks include Martyrdom which drops one of the insanely high blast-radius grenades where you die which can be multiplied if you used Sonic Boom, last stand which puts you in a DBNO state where you can kill enemies with your pistol, and 3x frag grenades.
This brings me to weapon balance; remember stopping power? Well, in CoD 4 it had an M16A3 which had a three-round burst that kills people in one burst if all the shots connect without Stopping Power. With Stopping Power, it killed people in two shots. This wouldn't be a problem if it had any modicum of recoil, but it doesn't. Save for the MP44 and M16A3, the assault rifle class had some balance to it, which cannot be said for SMGs. There's no point in using the Mini-Uzi or Scorpion unless you want to challenge yourself due to how powerful the other SMGs are compared to it, same for the M1014 and W1200 (which for whatever reason you can rid one of your perks to attach a completely meaningless foregrip attachment to).

Finally, it introduced killstreaks, which completely disincentivize playing the objective on gamemodes like domination when you can just sit back, get 7 kills, and let the helicopter do the rest. Later games continued to ignore the problem of killstreaks and instead completely bloat future releases by adding more killstreaks and perks that completely ruin the balance of the games.

CoD is the video game equivalent of McDonald's. It's quick, popular, and really bad for you and the industry as a whole. Luckily it's dying now. A lot of kids grew up playing CoD, and see MW2 as the peak of video game excellence. The result of this is that every CoD game that tries something new (Black Ops 3 had jet pack robots who could punch people to death) is immediately despised by the "CoD fanbase". Sometimes, looking at the games and their design, you get this uncomfortable feeling that the developers really wanna do something unique, cool or fun, but they simply aren't allowed to.

Something that surprised me was that in the latest CoD (played the free weekend), the menu system had this great idea of interactivity. You bought new guns and stuff from a sassy robot, the boss of your chosen faction would talk to you after missions, and you got the impression your chosen soldier guy was hanging around waiting for a mission while you weren't playing. The actual gameplay was trash, but some of the ideas are interesting.

People hated WaW when it came out, as well as CoD 3, but they at least "tried" things. CoD 3 had tanks, medics, jeeps you could drive around, and fairly large multiplayer games on console. Not a "good" game, but at least it wasn't the exact same drivel the series became known for. Shit, in the singleplayer, you played as Canadians, Brits, Poles and Americans, so even that was a little unique.

No man's sky.
Yooka-Lee.
Horizon zero dawn

Every CoD from 1 to 4 with the exception of 3 which was mediocre, were good.
WaW was average
Modern Warfare 2 was mediocre

They're bad games nowadays because they
-Reuse assets
-Look like shit if you go off the beaten path and sometimes even when on the path
-Have awful game, level design and pacing which Zampella and West mastered
-Campaigns are short as fuck because multiplayer focus
-DLC up the ass
-Microtransactions
-Same amount of weapons each time
-Same one time gimmicks that are never part of the core gameplay
-All the money, no ambition
-No shit like United Offensive multiplayer
Its the same reasons why Musou and yearly Sports games are shit.
Except theres even more money involved and just about if not more laziness.

Why do people keep repeating this meme about CoD2 being good? I played it at release (before it was cool to hate cod) and hated it. 4 was the same shit but more modern yet people act like there were galaxies between them.

CoD 2 was unique when it came out, sorta. It was arguably the peak WW2 multiplayer shooter for consoles at the time of its release.

Its MW2 with a new skin.
It does every setting it has badly
All the guns are trash and sound like trash.
The storyline is crap, has no atmosphere, no pacing and kills actually limeable characters.

Its shit and so are you for liking it

People were getting fucking sick of medal of honor at the time

Every BioWare game past KOTOR. And KOTOR was shit too.

I would've given it you all except guns are trash; sound like shit, okay, but gun variety is some of the best ever. Blowing up nigs with M202 was fun as fuck, and who would've thought wed see the autistic space gun. Cmon now.

They're basically generic, shallow, short and heavily-scripted """cinematic""" shooters that have been lobotomized even further for consoles and marketed towards teenagers and dudebros but their true sin is that the fact that they sell a gorillion fucking copies every fucking year means that they've pretty much defined AAA shooters (and not just FPS - TPS is living in the shadow of CoD as well and really most action games to some extent) and how they're marketed for a decade now and that trend shows no sign of slowing. The first four CoD games and WaW are passable (and to be quite honest I have a soft spot for Modern Warfare in a way similar to how I have a soft spot for Demolition Man) but with MW2 and after the devs were put in a gimpsuit and told to remake MW with better GRAFIX year after year.

imfdb.org/wiki/Black_Ops.

...

if you had friends at the time, MW2 was ok

...

fuck you

FUCK YOU

...

It was fub alone
It wad still mediocre shit
Spec Ops was literally the only goof thing about it

Take the fucking hint, faggot.

I classify COD as a party game.

Split screen multiplayer is pretty nice as a party feature but obviously not a main attraction type thing. MW2 and WaW are pretty fun.

COD series takes a bad rep because of consoles, on pc the community was significantly less shit

>IT'S FUN WITH PEOPLE

...

I've played MW2, MW3, Black Ops, Black Ops 2, Ghosts, and only a little of Advance Warfare on a friend's PS4
The bad:
I have other qualms but I can't be assed to think about them
The good:

The best way to understand why modern CoD sucks is to go through the series from the start and watch it decline in front of your eyes, the real switch is somewhere after WaW where the series lost the 'war is hell' theme and swapped to 'war is cool, the other side deserves to die because they're different'. Sadly the multiplayer of 1 and UO is all but dead outside of that recent gamenight we had anyway but maybe load up an empty UO server on a map like Foy or Kharkov and compare that to killstreaks and perks.

CoD 2's multiplayer was consolised shit.

This isn't a get right here?

Horizon
Last of War
Days gone
Gone homo and similars (like firewatch)

1 and UO didn't come out on consoles which instead got Finest Hour which was ok but basically a dumbed-down rehash of 1's levels with the notable exception of Mamayev Kurgan the soundtrack was literally an inferior remix of 1's OST. 2 was released on both the 360 (near launch) and PC and was a massive step-up in both singleplayer and multiplayer for console players so it gets a lot of love from that, it was also disliked by a fair few PC fags because of the sacrifices that had to be made as a result.

Strictly speaking the engine is still id Tech 3 with a fuckton of modification but it's been stagnating since 2. Until at least MW2 you could port content back to 2 with no hassle (guns just worked, for example).

MGS

Also with conviction, I could tell straight on by how the game basically played itself that it was going to be shit. I remember a bunch of people on a much shittier forum got severely butt hurt because I called it shit but wouldn't play it.

lol

lol

They aren't all bad. In fact they are well made games and sell so much for a reason. You really think all of these people would buy these games if they were poorly made? They just aren't liked by the neckbeards on Holla Forums is all because they are popular. Just fedora's hating popular games for the sake of hating popular games.

Now with that said some of the games are good and others not so much. I don't like the future warfare jetpack ones. I also didn't care for Blops 2 because I thought it felt awful with the speed of the gameplay and the shitty cheap kill streaks like hunter killer drone. That pick 10 class system was based as fuck though.

The MW games were mostly okay-great. The first being the only really great one. MW2 was broken as shit on launch. Okay game but this is where they really started the CoD formula as we all know it.

Black Ops 1 and WAW are also great. Black Ops 1 being my favorite of the games. World At War being the best WWII game imo.

Pic related are games I haven't played but assume they are awful. I have played tons of games. I know exactly what I would like and dislike. These games are absolute cancer to me and I cannot comprehend how people can like such shit besides the fact that they are popular normalfag games.

Now before you faggots give me shit for "contradicting myself" understand that there are plenty of ways to interpret things and understand shit. I know there are plenty that buy CoD simply because it is popular. However many also buy them simply because they find them fun to. However with the games in pic related I absolutely cannot see how most aren't simply playing the shit just because it is popular and they hope to make it into esports one day or that their favorite Twitch homo or girl loves to e-celeb like a humongous fucking faggot. And besides all of what I said, Overwatch is clearly SJW faggy shit.

Harvester is pretty underrated.

I am sorry you can't read, niggers.

Conviction is okayish but not a splinter cell game anymore. Multiplayer was lots of fun until you passed it.

Kill yourself plebbit.

The CoD games are pretty decent fun time-wasters.

They are basically the video game equivalent of junk food: It tastes good but it has no real underlying nutrition to it, it's all flash with little meat.

So I don't think they are bad games, they CAN be fun, certainly not absolute dogshit, but their reputation for being sort of just shat out to appeal to the most normalfag dudebro possible and keeping their attention is accurate.

also some fag here was very defensive when I called it shit, I assume he was a redditor

Don't you just float around and follow a linear path?

I would call it a game tho, it looked pretty, had a very enjoyable soundtrack and didnt overstay its welcome

pretty much

wouldnt*

so by virtue of not being a game it's a shit game, simple

anything made by japan

yeah exactly, its a shit game but its good at whatever its trying to be

MGS is the Call of Duty of Stealth games

Correct. I don't go out and buy new Call of Duty games, I'll only get them on a really good sale or if I'm given one as a gift.

I like to play the multiplayer of WaW in small bursts for some simple casual flashy action. For similar reasons I'll waste time playing Bejeweled or Bridge Constructor because they're fun distractions. Other times I'll sink my teeth into games with a lot more meat like Age of Empires, C&C skirmishes, Day of Defeat, etc. but it all depends on what I feel like playing.

I fully agree.

I use to have this attitude, but I started giving more jap games a try. Best of both worlds, shouldn't limit yourself man.

I like COD multiplayer, really fun with friends.

i already played a lot of them, they are all the same lazy shit focused on the story, only some indies ones are even worth trying

What people hated most about the CoD series was the fact that everyone else copied their multiplayer system and basically killed the classic arena shooter format. EVERY multiplayer now had to have a grinding system to unlock weapons, accessories, perks, etc.

CoD 1 and UO were pretty good.
CoD 2 was rad.
CoD 3 was pretty good but seriously fuck Activision for not releasing on PC.
CoD 4 was okay, super-overrated but still solid.
WaW was the best game in the series, I'm sure most people feel the same.
MW2 was big, dumb fun. Probably the last really good CoD game.
BO1 was okay.
MW3 was shit.
BO2 was decent.
Ghosts and everything after were really shit.

i've never played a MOBA but after reading into them a bit and watching gameplay footage i can't tell why anyone would take any pleasure in playing a MOBA

what boggles my mind more is how many normalfags like MOBAs even though they're needlessly time consuming games, and we know mobas don't like dedicating themselves to something for very long, and how many MOBA-fans justify their enjoyment of the game by sounding like a drug addict

...

These men are both correct, they are fun to spend an afternoon or two with but not any more. I rented the newest one that came out and had a pretty decent time with it, but I would've probably been pissed if I paid full price for it.

I assume that the point is that other anons will tell you whether you're correct or not, and if you should play the game anyway.

That is legitimately the reason ASSFAGGOTs/DotA-likes are so popular to the point where goddamn studies have proven that.
They use e-sports and popularity/social pressure to spread and then get their victims into a gambling-like addictive cycle where they keep rolling the dice for a 'good match' until they've sunk enough time and money into the game to refuse to leave.

...

...

You know what I really fucking hate
All the cocksucking retards who will praise one region over the other and play any trash they offer instead of playing the good titles from either region.

Kill yourself

Judging by the pure cancer generals for this game that we had here and the levels of faggotry just the threads spanned, but then seeing the pure crystaline tangible autism this game's fanbase has shat out, I can with 110% certainty say that this game is an irredeemable pile of shit and if you played it you should probably kill yourself, your family, your extended family, and maybe even your friends if you have any.

Game is good though

You're half right but I can tell by your intent you pretty much are totally wrong.

The reason the popularity of CoD is despised is because so many generic games try to copy its formula due to its massive, undeniable success. Everyone wants a piece of that pie, so a lot of games steal gameplay elements from it lazily.

Quit being dishonest.

hadn't heard about it but i believe it

Reminds me of MMOs back in the day.

For some videogames literally become their life. If your entire social circle is based on a gaming community you can never leave. People spend their entire disposable income on a single game economy.

People who play DOTA, Overwatch or LoL are like those old people putting their retirement check into slot machines at the casino all day. It is actually fucking sad and it is the future of gaming.

I don't think anybody praised MGS for its stealth gameplay until MGS3 (which was so-so in that department but it did its own thing). The game was always praised for its story

Hitler confirmed

The COD games are decent shooters but there's a few good reasons people hate them. First that they have basically no creativity in them, there's never anything new, unlike old shooters like Unreal Tournament and Quake. And second, every year they shit out a reskin of the game and people buy it up.

My 2 biggest gripes

*Levels are scripted corridors with shit happening around you… it leads to Zero Replay Value for Single Player Campaign. (theres exceptions… like COD2s "The Pipeline" level, its fucking amazing)
*Cheesy "heroic" and "anti-hero" characters written like amateur fanfiction.(you`ll forget about them very fast)

Why do so many people hate ironsights? They're much more fun than just having your screen zoom in a little bit when you aim, or just your crosshair on the screen narrow slightly.

They don't want to have to stop to aim.
They want a fast paced shooter because they can't enjoy the tension of a slow moving firefight.

If the dude charged more then £6.99 for it I'd be pissed since the game is like 2 hours long I don't give a fuck about alternate endings I'm not playing the entire game again with added grinding to force another ending

Lmao

I played a bit of CoD:Blops 3 and it was pretty fun. I still play it from time to time because it's good as a casual timewaster.

u sum RMA fag/.

What?

Pronounce it fag, they are the same.

my dad bought it for me so we could play together. was enjoyable enough but wouldn't play it alone

Oh, and no I don't play ARMA. But call of duty is no "tense firefight".

then u don't now COD

How young are you two retards? People absolutely did praise MGS for its gameplay and for good reason, because it was far ahead of its time when it was released. You might think MGS1 has shit gameplay now that it's very old and you still haven't played it, but no other game back then came anywhere close to the level of stealth gameplay it had at the time of release.

This is a non kosher shill thread for CoD remember the Holohoax edition.

Welcome to nu-Holla Forums and how they try to change history.

Tell me how running around shooting 10 year olds with weak ass pew pew guns is "tense", especially when you respawn in half a second.

COD guns do more damage than weak-ass quake shit where you gotta shoot people for 5 minutes before they die.

Doesn't make it tense

LOL

CoD isn't bad, per se.

It's too fast paced and there is far too little content to go around. If it were slower, it'd be battlefield. If it were any faster, it might as well be Bayonetta.

Fuck off, Hitler. Your opinions are shit.

CoD is faux fast. Titanfall is what CoD always should have been, but it's stuck in limbo trying to get both the MLG pro faggot crowd and the tacticool mall ninja crowd.

You ever play Vanquish?

100% that game. There is maybe two to three hours of actually enjoyable content hidden beneath hours and hours of bullshit. The Caim, Manah/Watchers and some late game bossfights are pretty damn good.

Good use of the under age buzzword though.

I don't see how that's relevant

What is this shit? Why the fuck are you trying to make the two games compete? MGS and Thief are both god tier

I don't get why everything has to be objectively better or worse than other things, that sort of compartmentalising is a fucking sick OCD kind of thinking

Dark Souls
Nier:Automata
Titanfall 2
The vast majority of indie games that exist

I only compared them because the other guy was full of shit.

I'm extremely skeptical

95% of western AAA games from the past 10 years.

...

...

Nice.

seems like you're the underage, given how many users have already BTFO'd you

That's a very underage thing to say, faggot.

Metal Gear Solid was released before The Dark Project, what's your point?

Is there a single redeeming thing to it?
Don't answer. A rhetorical question.

I used to do that but then I played Katawa Shoujo and enjoyed it.
Since then I try to at least try everything I can and try to not shit on stuff when I am not a source.
That said 80% of stuff I try is shit. Like Fire Emblem But that 20% makes it worth it. Like Nier or Persona 2.

...

Name a game that is improved by iron sights

Every redditor in here should be banned.

That "far ahead of its time" is a pretty laughable claim when a better stealth game was released in the exact same year?

Metal Gear Solid was better than Thief.

as a game? fuck no. as an 'interactive experience', maybe. And Thief isn't nearly as good as Thief 2 as an 'interactive experience', it kicks the shit out of MGS.

The irony.

Snake would whip Garrett's ass.

The Elder Scrolls Online.
I remember the mockery when it first came out, all of the problems with the lore and such but apparently there are people that play and enjoy the game.

That shit is blatantly wrong.
Holla Forums was made in 2013, not 2014.
Jim didn't come around in 2017, he's owned the site since 2015.
Endchan, .pl and 76 were all made before 2017 and each one was made for different reasons.

The image implies migration, not creation. It's still pretty shilly though.

Then edit it yo

But Endchan has been gained any significant userbase since October 2016, I think 76 died and .pl hasn't significantly increased since late 2016.

...

...

Yes and Snake was so focused on CQC that Garrett had already sneaked right past and robbed him blind.

wm2 was phenomenal during the javelin glitch if you enjoyed being a griefing asshole.

And doom guy would kick Snake's ass.

Bullshit, Snake's situational awareness is superior, nobody could rob him.

He's hardly even human, doesn't count.

>Robbed a fucking god of nature which includes hunting right under his nose

By that logic the Skyrim protagonist is a better thief than Garrett.

I guess you had to bring it to this though since literally the only reason to play MGS is the story and crazy twists in gameplay, like the 4th wall breaking enemy that made you have to change controller ports to beat. It's still a garbage stealth game, at least from what I can tell.

MGS is a great series and if I ever run across your bitch ass IRL, you're done kid.

Every fucking game

...

Oh please, The Dark Project is better than The Metal Age

Pretty much every game after 2005. Nothing but shit as far as eye can see.

...

They do things differently. Everyone just defaults to Thief 2 because that's the one that focuses the most on stealth.

Snake would spot Garrett and then beat his ass with CQC.

...

Snake would smack Powerman around as well.

Cawwadooty after World at War
Dead Island
H1Z1
Crysis
Far Cry
Dead Risings 2 and 3
Halos 4 and 5
Bioshock Infinite
Anything ASSFAGGOTS
Anything by Blizzard
Anything advertising that it's a "roguelike"
Everything Bioware except KOTOR
Pretty much everything Epic made, too, even that mascot platformer in the 90s

...

H1Z1 king of the hill is hilarious if you do duos or five mans. Anyone who takes it seriously though, its scary how hard people try in Solo.

I was so fucking happy when this was created. The Flash vs Goku vs Superman arguments had transcended reason.

Makes sense for newfags.

Fucking hell everyone wants a fucking debate just talk about vidya.

Having 4k hours into it, I agree with you completely. Theres so much content in this game that makes it worth taking a look at, but its completely ruined with the community, hats and with how you are forced to play a meta, to play it in your own way such as different item builds will get you punished by the community.

You're right in that the games themselves are cancer, the issue is that DOTA and LoL is addictive cancer. Both games will play out this "THERE'S LIMITLESS STRATEGIES GOYIM" card and everyone who tries them will fall for it hook, line, and sinker. For instance, while both games will boast a large number of heroes, many will be forced into specific roles for specific comps and will be constantly derided for attempting anything else. Because these games are advertised as heavily competitive, people will literally brainlessly follow what pros will do and basically claim what is and what is not meta. To top it off the games also take a long time, which wouldn't be an issue with games that are more drop in drop out gameplay but you will have to like the people you're playing with, incompetent, drunk, drugged out, or just a shit person notwithstanding. People will pick characters you want to play, because they are new, free for the week, or just the only character they know, they will play them in places they aren't built for (or the devs specifically stopped because they usually support this one track mind) or they will leave the game if they aren't able to convince you otherwise. Gameplay wise these are the low end of the strategy game spectrum, at the end of the day they were meant to be little more than custom games you'd play when you and your friends were bored of just stomping each other in the usual strategy game, not a genre of their own. The community is it's own shit can of worms and ranked gameplay only gets worse.

As for waifuwatch the game doesn't lend much to strategy either. If you want to do well, learn to shoot, if your ultimate is up, either have your team near you or the enemy team and use it, it's relatively simple gameplay. The SJW stuff is just whatever they can get away with one way or another. They are merchants. They'll do whatever is considered popular. If one side sounds off louder than the other, they'll switch it around (the tracer ass pose fiasco for instance) and claim that was their intention the whole time.

As for games I never played. I had fun with Sly, Rachet and Clank, but never tried Jax, just didn't think it was All that great from the relatively short demo I played back in the day, how was the series?

great matchmaking too

And then you realize they are thrown into a match with you because of 1000 of hours of gameplay showed they were just as bad as a newcomer

Yeah you can thank smurfs for that.
People are so trash at the game that they make new accounts just so they can have easier games.

you also now gotta register your phonenumber for dota 2 just to play ranked, or you will be perma locked out of it I think. I couldnt give a shit about ranked myself, but when you see things like this and how you have a LIMITED NUMBER OF TIMES to report players, it just shows valve has no control over this.

True for LoL but DOTA has a lot of leeway, in fact there's entirely different team strategies you can build for in character selection which you even see happen in tournaments.

CSGO has the same problem and you have to buy the game to play it.

Fuck off and die call of duty autist.

Crysis is pretty good, aliens aside, and definitely worth a shot.
Far Cry 1 has the same flaw (shitting the bed a bit towards the end) and Crysis generally does what it set out to do better (it's was FC's spiritual successor and all), worth trying if you like FPS games of the era or just out of historical curiosity.
Well their early RTS games, while not particularly original, are fine and Diablo 1 and 2 are good if you like the sub-genre I don't.
Some of the Unreal games are good though which are and which aren't is skub. Bulletstorm is fun but forgettable.

PUBG. Maybe Holla Forums will tell me otherwise, but it seems to me as though it's just another shitty overhyped meme game (possibly due to shitty youtubers and e-celebs) that's an early access load of garbage that isn't any good and most likely will never reach a state where it's actually good
