Yesterday's game night while the server got on to Race CTS mode, I mentioned that strafe jumping works in other games based on Quake engine, including Call of Duty. Going to post some webms from YouTube demonstrating it being done in other others.
It'll vary, seeing some Call of Duty, especially the modern ones, you don't go as fast and the players don't hop continuously to insane speeds.

I don't play CSGO and out of a lot of gameplay videos I've seen of CS, this looks very different.
There's a lot of hacking accusations. So I probably need to find another video.

Looks like a Race CTS mode in CSGO.
He goes backwards and sideways- I didn't mention it before, but you can do these jumps in any direction you want.

I know about it, its shit, works like a shittier version of arma and command can literally shit the game calling for airstrikes anywhere in the map, i rather play joint operations thats atleast more fun.

The difficulty in those jumps in CSGO comes from the fact that the game culls your speed should you go over a certain threshold. In 1.6 and source, such a limit wasn't imposed. I've never seen anyone bhop that well in CSGO, but I suppose it could be done without scripting. Some of those circle jumps are commonly used by people who have experience with movement tricks. If the voices you hear in the game are from an enemy, it might also be a custom server with allvoice enabled and the limitation removed.

Worth noting that this is actually a circle jump. For whatever reason, CoD players use the term for the mechanic that was phased out (due to landing anims) for the one that remained (which is still in because there's probably not an easy way to fix it)

Strafejump proper is also doable in Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory which, if I recall correctly, has an entry further down the game night list. There's a sort of gimped version of it in Quake Wars as well

007 Nightfire also has it, but you have to put up with a shit PC port

It was already gimped pre-GO, just in terms of the floor rather than the ceiling. The reason why people use scrollwheel is because Valve tried to make the jump window impossibly small. In OG Quake, jumps are buffered, so you can just tap and hold jump instead of trying to time that shit on landing. In VQ3 and CPM, you have to time your jump input for max accel, but the window is much larger

So if anything, Valve made bhop harder to get into and more rewarding than it was in the original Quake, where no rebinding or major habit changing was needed

I wasn't hosting this week, just doing the scheduling (image-editing user deserves credit for actually making the schedule too). The xonotic thread anons deserve all the credit for hosting the last two days.

You should do a guide to quake/arena shooter movement tricks as an image that anons can save and post whenever needed in future. That would be helpful for many threads and fairly interesting (I don't think people realise just how many games run on modified versions of the quake engine).
